What phone have you traded in? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone traded in an Evo 3D and received the $200 gift card from Best Buy? They claim any working smart phone would qualify. I called today and asked, but they said it had to be worth $10 via their trade-in calculator. Of course the phone I have to trade is worth $8. Thanks

I traded in a Evo 4G Lte. It's supposed to be any working smartphone that doesn't have a broken screen. That's what I was told at my local best buy.

I traded in an LG Motion and Samsung Axiom. Never heard of em? That's how little value they hold
got em off a seller for 13 bucks each.

I traded in a working Samsung intercept from I don't even know how many years ago. Wasn't even on their online calculator, but they took it at the store. Winning! EVO 3D should be no question. At all.

I traded in an EVO 3D, my wife traded in an EVO 4G, and my best friend traded in a Palm Pre for the $200.00 BB GC.
Because I received the phone on Launch Day, Best Buy also gave me $50 additional per phone for buying on Launch Day.
My wife, I, and my friend paid $49.99 on 2 year contract for our Note 4's.
Simply Awesome!

Did you purchase from a Best Buy store or BB Mobile Store?

I bought a 29 dollar virgin mobile and traded it in guy said my note 2 was worth 80 and to save 50 bucks lol

I went to an actual Best Buy Store and did the entire transaction from the store. My wife and I Pre-Ordered on 10/4, picked up on 10/17.
Be warned though.... some of the reps have no idea that every Smartphone is eligible for $200.00 (as long as your screen isnt cracked, the phone isnt water damaged, and it powers up on its own).
My friend had issues due to the CSR being an idiot. Luckily there was a Rep who knew his sh*t and he also got a Note 4 on Launch Day.

I have a note 2 also, but want to keep it for back up. I'm thinking the best buy mobile store has different guidelines from the actual best buy store. I may just cancel my pre order from the mobile store.

I traded in a Sanyo Zio that only turns on..... i wasnt giving up my note 3... they got me for my note 2 when i upgraded to my note 3...

I traded in my old Sprint HTC Hero, i think from 5-6 years ago. Worth zero but had no problem trading. Kept my Note 2 for backup or maybe sell it separately. No hassle, never ask to switch plan or anything. Still doing 1500 unlimited family plan with 3 lines.

You know I applaud anyone who was able to get 200 for a piece of junk but the real idiots are the ones who accepted the POJ. If you took the time to read the small print BB's policy, (and every other one I have read), clearly state any smart phone that is undamaged, working AND worth at least 10.00 in trade. The true idiots are the ones at BB that don't know that...

I read through the BB T&C's before I Pre-Ordered my Note 4. I didn't see anything mentioned about $10 Minimum Value. All it said was that it had to be any working smartphone, sans cracked screen, water damage, and must be able to power up.
If my friend traded an OG Palm Pre in and got $200.00 for it, then it truly is "Any Working Smartphone". When is the Palm Pre from? 2010? Surely it has no trade in value at all.

Epic 4G...with tears in my eyes!!!

Not only did I bring in one Evo 4g, but I brought in two, both with bad ESNs. i bought them earlier this years for my boys to play games but they were way underpowered. At first he said $200 for the 1st and $12 for the second. Then he said there was a glitch and I got $200 for both!!! Sadly because I'm doing the ez pay i can't use it for my phone through BB.

giftcards.com you can enter the code on the back of the card and sell them the giftcard, they will paypal you the money in a day or 2. only downside is youll get only about 90% of the value and cant sell more than $300 in a month, but i sold mine to put towards easy pay

How to Get a Vibrant for $350: The Hard Way

Hello everyone,
I have one hell of a story to tell about one boy, two phones (the htc hd2 and the samsung vibrant), and one freakin' committed customer service team (T-Mobile's). OK, so I'll begin my story of how I ended up with a brand-new Vibrant for essentially 350 bucks. Bear with me here, it's a bit long. So, I originally purchased an htc hd2 way back in mid-June for 300 bucks on Craigslist. The phone ended up being defective because of a hardware issue, and because it happened to be under the "buyer's remorse" period, at least the way T-Mobile saw it, I was able to return it by mail for a brand new one for free. I was surprised when I called to learn that T-Mobile didn't require a single piece of information to verify that I was the original owner of the phone, all they saw was that an htc hd2 had magically been activated on such and such a date. So, I returned that hd2 and recieved a new one in a couple of days, which ended up being just as buggy as the last one, so I decided to abandon the hd2 altogether in exchange for the Samsung Vibrant. I called T-Mobile customer service today to setup the exchange for the vibrant, which would cost me 50 bucks since the hd2 cost 450 and the vibrant costs 500, and I was FINALLY told that they had no record of me ever buying an hd2 (I wonder why, lol). I then explained to them that I wasn't the original owner of the phone and that I had bought it from the original owner, but that the phone had been purchased only a few days before they sold it to me. They told me at first that I would have contact the original owner and get the 450 bucks credited back to there account. The only problem was that I had no way of contacting the original owner, and that they had switched carriers almost immediately after purchasing the hd2. After about four hours, and many many phone calls later, I called t-mobile one last time to explain my situation, keep in mind that I was totally honest the entire time, I reached a very nice customer service rep, and after explaining what had happened to me, and after speaking to her supervisor for over ten minutes, she told me that even though they almost never do this, that they would "take my word for it" and send the vibrant, no questions asked, for basically 50 bucks. I was over the moon considering that less than 5 minutes ago I had thought that I had thrown away 300 dollars. I would like to give some major props to T-Mobile's customer support, never in a million years would I have expected a customer service team work so hard to keep a a customer happy. Talk about going the distance. Well, that's my story. Tell me what you think, and what your experiences with them have been like.
Peace, bobofosho12

Yeah, its an online Special. However i Would Suggest your sister to call T-mobile and ask to be transfered to the Loyalty Department to get hers. because she will get a good deal as her contract is up...... They will give it to her at full Discount and provide her with a data plan of $24.99 a month. instead of $30.00 like you got... and she wont have to pay no upgrade fee's whatsoever.

Same here. I renewed my contract last year, so did my GF. We both are eligible for full discount so I jump on it right away.
I hate buying ANYTHING with a contract, I know that even though I might pay through the nose up front, i'm saving tons more than I would if I had a contract for two years. I just generally buy an "almost" brand new phone on someplace like Craigslist and then I return it to T-mobile and get a brand new one for free, hence what I did with the hd2. Just my strategy though.

I have the 24.99 data plan and i will thanks for the info
my story on getting the vibrant new WITHOUT a contract for $133. Please note, this cannot be duplicated anymore as the "loop hole" has been caught and closed. I noticed this post on slickdeals.net the 2nd day it had been posted:
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2132124
So basically costco has the cell phone kiosk's which sell tmobile and a few other carriers. as we know, T-mobile offers and "even more plus" program with is NO contract. also as we know that if we went to tmobile and got a vibrant with this even more plus program is $500.
BUT for the first 3 or 4 days that costco sold the vibrant they were selling it for $250 with the "even more plus" plan or $99 with contract. EDIT( this $250 price was a wholesale price they were offering)
so went there and bought 2 samsung vibrants for 250$ each plus tax. ended up being about $540 by opening 2 new lines on the "even more plus" plan. note that this is different then the "even more" plan which is a contract. Even though "even more plus" is not a contract, costco would not sell the phone without an actual plan but thats ok because this "even more plus plan is no contract because normally you pay full price for the phone.
so then because the "even more plus" plan is not a contract, I called t mobile and told them that I want to cancel the even more plus plan and that I paid full price for the phone. (which i did pay costco's full price). they canceled the plans over the phone on the first try without any hassel (some people had a little trouble canceling)
So then i sold 1 on ebay for $485 including shipping and kept one for myself. After paying shipping, ebay listing fees, selling fees, and paypal fees. I came out basically paying the difference which is only about $130 for my new, NON contract vibrant
keep in mind I already have a tmobile contract from my mytouch, so i just put the sim card in the new vibrant and was good to go.
Costco and Tmobile both caught on to this within days, and now it went from 250 to 479 the day after i got mine.
so i basically ended up paying $130 for a New Vibrant, not subsidized, and non contract even less then if I had signed a new 2 year contract.
If so many people had not ONLY gotten this deal just to sell all the phones on ebay and craigslist, the deal probably would have lasted a little longer. (i just sold 1 to offset the cost of buying one for myself)
so keep in mind, this deal is now dead, and no one has had success trying to replicate it since the price change because costco and tmobile had caught on quickly.
Im still under contract with tmobile for another year because i bought mytouch last year. Wife's phone is still eligible for an upgrade I can use later this year
I got mine for $100 after $50 mail in rebate. I bought mine at Costco warehouse . It included the car charger, a carrying case and a Bluetooth headset.
still cant beleive you guys didnt just spam these forums spreading the good news on the price. so sad.
well thankfully, i got mine on bing cashback and so the phone might end up being $350 for me.
oh what i could have done with $100 extra, sigh
by the way did you need to be a costco member to get that price or could anyone get it?
I actually got mine for free, but in an extremely roundabout and lucky sort of way.
Got a Samsung Behold II with a new contract at the beginning of June for free from Letstalk.com. I won't rehash all the ridiculous problems I had with the phone, as it's fairly legendary at this point.
Had even more problems after the now infamous 1.6 OTA update, took my problems to T-Mobile corporate, and after 2 weeks worth of emails and phonecalls with their director of customer relations they basically convinced Samsung to toss me a Vibrant to make me happy enough to go away and leave them alone.
I sort of rode out the "perfect storm" here and was just in the right place at the right time. Still, this is the best free phone I've ever had!
Got mine for the same price as Alex.
i got mine for $534 after tax!

Cheapest method to get an ET4G with $75 upgrade?

I only have $75 off from Sprint to upgrade, so what is the cheapest method into getting the ET4G? Many websites unfortunately only take account the upgrade price if you're 2 years in, but most don't give you an option if you're between 1 and 2 years between contracts.

Cheapest way is through Sprint. Their retail price is $499 for the phone at Sprint stores. That's quite a bit cheaper than through other resellers.
Depending on what your coming from, you may be able to sell your old phone on ebay or craigslist to recoup some of the cost.
The other option is to wait. I have no doubts that this phone, while impressive right now, will be outclassed in a few months. By the time you can cash in your full discounted upgrade, there will be something bigger and badder... or the E4GT will be much cheaper.
Keep in mind, you'll have to go another two years if you cash in that $75. Not worth it in my opinion... it's just a phone.
$75 is NOT worth re-upping your contract for 2 years. I went ahead and paid pull price for the phone and I will keep my full upgrade for next spring when the hopefully the LTE phones are out
Best Buy gave the phone for$399.99 and I also was only qualified for a $75 discount. That and the gave me $97 bucks for my old Epic thus I got this bad boy for about $300 and change.

What i did was early terminate for $80 and started a new contract and got the phone for $199 plus acctivation. If you already got the phone wih only a 75 discount have ur accout reversed and do the early termination thing
p.s. If u do the account reversal you will need an old sprint phone to temperarily put ur number back on or they will charge u a restocking fee of 35 dollars

I was thinking of early terminating too. I am 1 year into my contract so it would be $100 for the ETF. Start a new contract and get the phone for $100 at Wal-Mart plus tax and $36 activation fee. The only thing is I want to keep my number so I would have to port it over maybe a prepaid phone or Google voice and then port it back to Sprint?

I did this exactly and traded in an Evo which they gave me an 87 credit for. I know I could of got more but it was too easy this way, totally off set the ETA. Phone number change for me wasn't a problem as I give out my Google voice number. I asked the guy at the store if he would just give me the full upgrade price instead of doing this but he said no. It was easy enough.
I was in the same situation. Got one from sprint, did not use it and sent it back because I realize that I could get a brand new one from eBay for cheaper and not use my $75 upgrade and be eligible for the next s3.
Maybe I might wait until after October 11 and see if Samsung and Google will announce the new Galaxy Nexus for Sprint hopefully. If it does come to Sprint I may just ETF and port my number out to a cheap prepaid phone and open a new contract.
Whats your current phone now? I personally think its worth it if you can sell your current phone for a decent amount and use it towards the 4g touch on eBay.
The best way is the Best Buy method. I sold my Evo and a Zune HD straight to Best Buy for about $210...I ended up paying $14 for mine (I had a full upgrade though).
If you've got some other old electronics you never use, I suggest going that route, Best Buy pays out pretty well.
Also, they won't be announcing the Nexus S in October. It'll be the iPhone 5 and MAYBE switching to LTE. IF we get the Nexus S, it won't be til later on.
I sold my Epic on Facebook in 20 minutes for $150, then used the $75 discount. I put down another $75 and billed the rest to my account. Ill have a huge bill next month, but I'm OK with that. But that's really the cheapest route.

I had the same problem and I was willing to just buy the Epic Touch full price without renewing my contract BUT I decided it was worth a shot calling customer service to see what they could do for me.
I got:
$100 account credit
$75 renewal
$75+ phone buyback (I had a bunch of old phones)
Which left me at less than $249 out of pocket.
Then I transfered my OG Epic to my wife, and she ended up getting a brand new OG Epic because the Sprint store couldn't figure out how to swap things over to her correctly and I wasn't about to tell them how
I'm happy with it because we both have brand new phones and like I said before I was ready to just buy it full price... and I still have a full upgrade next spring...

I see, yeah the 11th is coming up pretty soon anyways. I've noticed that the epic 4g touch prices have dropped quit a bit since I bought mine on eBay. I believe the going rate now is close to $450-60 shipped, I paid $480 for mine. Hopefully I can see my Evo for a decent amount. If you opt out for the new Nexus the price might be a bit lower too for the epic 4g touch.

How do you guy keep up with the latest phones?

Ok so i'm realizing as i've been reading the threads, that many of us came from evo 3d, and photon, and nexus s. How are you guys able to get e4gt without your contracts being up? I know that some of those phones are less than a year old. and i'm pretty sure some of us will move on from e4gt to galaxy nexus when it comes out. Whats your trade secret? I can't really imagine, people cashing up $500 + every few months? even if you were to sell your old phone to off set the difference.
can you guys please tell me your secret? because i would love to get the latest phones, with minimum money spent.
I'm an avowed gadget freak and when Sprint still had the BTA (bill to account) option, I bought many phones at full price but since they disbanded that lovely feature I've had to resort to calling in and requesting an earlier upgrade (worked once and I used it for that pos EVO 3D). I also used to have 5 active lines, most of those I only activated to get a new phone lol so I paid probably 3 times as much with service, etc.
Some people have better luck than others and get an early upgrade often, I'm guessing it's a case of who you know over blind luck.
Sell the old one to put towards the new one

It is actually REALLY easy.
It is called Sprint Total Equipment Protection
As you can see below I have had a few phones, Only the Samsung Epic1 was actually upgraded. Everything else is thanks to TEP.
Before I would get broken phones and use TEP to get like new phones and sell them to buy a new phone, but it is even easier now, they offer similar phones to yours. So, In June I bought the Evo 3D, got bored with it by december. Wanted the ET4G, that wasn't available through TEP, so I got the Photon. Got bored of that, then swapped my Photon for the ET4G.
Seriously, that $8 a month is well worth it, AND if you brick your phone, you get a new one!
I sell my girlfriend for money.
now you know.
for me, I just make sure to keep my devices in pristine condition. That way I can sell mine on craigslist and just put in the difference against the retail price of new phone. so im usually out of B/T $200-$250 for new phone
Well, I used to get the Premier subsidy every year so I could get a brand new phone every summer for $200. That's how I've gotten my last several phones. Went from a Sanyo flip phone (before Premier) to a Palm Treo 650. Kept that for 2 years, got a HTC Mogul, that crapped out and TEP replaced it with a new or refurb HTC Touch Pro. This is around when the Premier perks started. Had that for maybe a half a year and then when my contract was up I got a launch day Palm Pre. Had that for a year and got a Premier upgrade to an HTC Evo. That just broke on me a few months ago but I had talked them into keeping my last Premier upgrade on my account so I was able to sell back my broken Evo for $90 and pay like $110 out of pocket for the E4GT.
Trying to keep it in good shape (probably will have to get the USB jig to reset the flash count) so I can sell it and buy the SGS3 whenever it shows up on Sprint in the Fall or whatever.
Its very simple....craigslist lol. I sold my evo 3d for $240 and found a guy selling white epics for 350. My girlfriend did the same thing

They kill the ESN so it can't be reactivated on Sprint but there are lots of phones with bad ESNs still being sold on ebay and elsewhere.
One of the benefits of having a real job, I suppose.

I personally have a friend that does work with Sprint and he can get phones brand new at "New Contract" prices... Then I just sell my phone on craigslist!
That's like when the Galaxy Nexus comes out, it will most likely be $199-$249 and I can get $300 for my E4GT when I decide to sell it!

"phone-feens" always find a way to get the newest ish, most of the time its flipping a old phone for a new one... with little cash difference. you be surprise how a head of normal people us xda members are in regard to the newest technology, for example I sold my g2x for $200 and got a epic touch for $260.... $60 difference. But the point is some1 though the the g2x was worth $200, while in the xda world, thats old technology... I switch phones at least 3-4 times a year... I love playing with the new ish! I think we all do! If I don't root my phone then I root my girl, but i'm rooting something, lol

You do know three claims in 12 months will get your insurance terminated, correct?

Rightfully deserved too.
That is Fraud.
I make good money.

Best buy buyback.

I got a ego 4g lte with best buy and had the buy back program applied to it when I upgraded when it was released. I know I would have to buy the note outright but if I traded in the evo does anyone know an estimate of what I would have to pay out of pocket?
Thanks in advance!

Not as much as you think.
If you are patient, root your phone, install a good rom on it and post it on eBay. You'll get a ton more from people who don't know how to follow directions and root themselves on that device.
When I bought my Evo3d (when it was released) I had a brand new Evo that I was trading in. Actually just opened the box and turned the phone on once. I walked in and they told me that the phone was in horrible shape and that in it's condition I would get 55$ in trade in. I lol'd and walked out. Skinned it and sold it on eBay the next day to some guy in the Midwest for a lot more than that.
It all depends if you actually are using the "Buy Back" program that was started around 2 years ago or the "Trade-In" program that took it's place not too long ago (there's some lawsuit that Best Buy is losing about the Buy Back program so they had to change their process). The Buy Back program is worth more than the Trade-In program.
Example: When you do the Buy Back program, the value of the full retail of the phone is used. There is a tier of value that dwindles after a certain time (prorate). I had an Inspire 4G with the Buy Back program and got $120 for it on a gift card.
They also told me the value of the phone if I were to use their Trade-In program which would have been $55.
If it is indeed the Buy Back program, after 1 1/2 years or something like that, you should get around 20% of the original retail value (even if you got the phone free with a two-year contract). For the Inspire 4G, it was somewhere around $599 (free on 2 year contract). I got $119 for it on the program. If you've had the phone for a shorter amount of time, the value goes up (something like if you had turned it in between buying and 3 months, 100%, 6 months =60%, 1 year = 40% etc. not exact numbers but you get the picture).
Your best bet is to go there, tell them the program you purchased (trade-in or buy back... and if you have the original receipt, all good but if you don't they can look it up... Make sure they select the correct program because if you did in fact get the "Buy Back" program, the value is higher), then find out how much you can get back on the gift card. Also, they run programs like if you do upgrade/buy and new phone, they give you an extra 25% that goes towards the new phone... and check their Reward Zone specials on upgrading your phone because that can get you major points as well
Check their calculator http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Misc/Buy-Back-Program/pcmcat230000050010.c?id=pcmcat230000050010
I did Sprint buyback, they gave me 50. Paid 273 in store and will get 36 activation fee on the bill.

eBay and Craigslist is your friend. May be difficult to prove a clean ESN vs selling a GSM phone but it's worth more then $50.

I would have given you $100 for it and then you could have gone to bb and done price matching and if price went down again you could go back and get even more money back from bb. I will never buy directly from sprint again. Plus insurance with sprint is $11 a month with sprint plus a $200 deductible. It only cost me $7.50 a month with no deductible plus a loaner phone if I need it. Buy back for most companies is a joke. I'm thinking of advertising on cl that I will beat any local buy back by 30% and then turn around and sell phone for a profit.

I probably would have gotten it but this time around after they raised it to $11 I purchased best buy protection. I know it doesn't cover loss or theft but it's no deductible and unlimited claims plus they give you a loaner if you need it. But for those who don't have that option it's a good idea to get it at least for the first year.

I have heard bad things about best buy insurance. I haven't personally tried them to say it's bad.
I have Sprint insurance for a about 7 years now.... And they are pretty good with replacements. The deductible sucks but they are quick with sending a refurbished phone or if you are lucky, a new phone.

It's hit and miss. I had bb insurance years back and never had any issues. For the past 5 years I've had Sprint insurance but after the last experience at my local Sprint repair center I called it quits. Decided to try bb again. When I had bb several years ago it took them 3 days to get me a phone which is average for Sprint also. It all depends on the situation I guess. It's always good to have a loaner available.

I used to work for the geeksquad helping implement and coming up with new software for them to fix computers. BB their return policy and their phone insurance is 2nd to none. it may take like 3 days to get a replacement but they were always quality refurbs and you could break one every day (every few days) if the refurbs aren't to your liking you just complain to a store manager and they will give you a new one lol. Just to test it and fufil my dreams of spiking an iphone on the ground I did that using their phone insurance and than the next week returned the refurb. The people that work there have 0 clue about anything lol.
Furthermore I hate bestbuy and the geeksquad horrible place redundant processes. SO i am not trying to say they are good by any stretch of the imagination they just have a poor system and people with foresight can work it to their advantage. lol
my opinion
TEP is dirt I can say this cause I am an ex sprint employee just take care of your device

I can vouch. I didn't work for sprint but have many horrible experiences. Only thing good about it is you'll get your phone pretty quick, only problem is most refurbished phones are done by companies that aren't too good at doing it.

i dropped tep for the 2 reasons most others did. they bumped up the mothly payment to 11 bucks and the deductible to 200 dollars. thats $264 in premiums over the 2 year contract plus the 200 dollar deductible makes it 464 dollars if you have to replace your phone once. i assure you that you can buy a used note 2 for the same price online at swappa or craigslist and the such.
i went best buy black tie this time and paid upfront. 169 for 2 years with no deductibles.

Exactly what I did. Paid up front and saved money. Plus at end of 1 year if I don't see as cost effective anymore I can cancel and get a prorated refund.

when you signed up for ir did you get the "mobile trade in plus" deal?
they give you a 50 dollar gift card on top of whatever the current trade in value is. its free when you prepay for the bb insurance.
