[Q] T999l not connecting to LTE - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I just purchased 2 T999l phones and had them activated on Metro PCS. My wifes phone has got LTE from the moment it was activated. Mine will connect HSPA+ but not LTE. All of our settings are the same except when I go to service mode mine doesn't show LTE. Is my phone damaged? Can I fix it? Am I over looking something?

Can you download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo and post what it says about your bootloader and model number?

Could be you need a new sim card too. Swap Sims in both devices and see what happens.

I can't switch sims. They are activated on MetroPCS. Just downloaded the Phone Info app will post screen shot in a minute.

Well the phone looks fine.. What about in network mode, what is selected?

Why not? You said you have 2 T999L's right? Take your Sim and put it in the other one, and put it's sim in yours and test it out.

Metro sets the SIM to the IMEI so it wont work in the other phone.
Network mode is LTE/WCDMA/GSM(auto connect)
APN matches the working phone. Besides you can't change the T-mobile APN settings.

You can't do that with metro Doc, sim card is tied to imei like CDMA, weird but true, I worked with metro for a while and customers would not believe me when I told them this.. They found out I wasn't lying eventually lol

So on dialer typing *#2263# there is no LTE option you say?
Edit: if you know know someone who has T-Mobile you can check with their sim and see if you pick up LTE with theirs.. No need to switch imei

Well that sucks! Didn't know that, sorry.
Are both devices used? It is possible one is defective or has been used/abused to the point of not working right. I'd take it to a Metro store and ask them to try it by registering it with one of their Sim cards and testing it out. Have you tried flashing stock firmware? If it was rooted/flashed in the past, maybe they just didn't take the time to go back to stock correctly.

When I *#2263# it does show LTE. It just doesn't ever connect to LTE.

No 3g service, faulty verizon SIM card

Curious if anyone else had experienced this.
Over the weekend I could not connect to Verizon's 3g network. When I was in a 3g only area, I would have grayed out bars and no 3g icon. I was able to connect to the 1x network and make phone calls. When I was in a 4g area, I could connect to the LTE network and use data fine. I first re-flashed the 4.0.2 factory radios (I had the 4.0.3 leaked radios) to no avail. Then re-flashed the entire factory image and that didn't change anything either.
I brought the phone to my local Verizon store and they swapped out the SIM card. I was under the impression that the SIM card was only used to connect to the LTE network, so i didn't think it would have any effect. To my surprise, the phone was able to connect to the 3g network again.

According to a friend of mine, the SIM card actually holds the CDMA data in it now, so having a bad SIM card will actually mess up your CDMA.
Guess VZW is GSM now.
Yes, over the weekend my sim died as well. Same exact problem. It happened to a friend as well. For us, it happened Friday.

Verizon validates LTE subscribers via the SIM, like a GSM carrier. There is no ESN, as found in CDMA carriers. This is part of their eHRPD bridge from CDMA to LTE. It is also why people couldn't get 3G when the LTE network crapped out last month.
On the plus side, you can swap phones by inserting the SIM now. Welcome to 1995.
The kid at the Verizon tried to tell me that It probably happened from toggling the preferred network mode from LTE/CDMA to CDMA. I hope that the design isn't so poor that this would be the case.

Sooo if somebody steals my phone now they can just use it? I can't call and report the ESN stolen and blacklist it?

Can a 3G Sim work on this phone?

So, I'm debating right now between the Hox and the gs3 and honestly the only reason why I can't get this phone is because its lte. I use a 3G sim for all my phones (except my nitro, I don't have a sim in that at all) so I need to know if one can insert a 3G sim and still get data. Oh, and I heard this uses a microsim slot? Tim to get my sim cut....

Both hox and GSIII have micro sim slots. It does have 3g, I use it all the time as there is no 4G in Pennsylvania. Not sure if you'd have to sim unlock it though.

Oh. Thanks. Just asking cuz my nitro only works with specifically designed 4G at&t sims. All other carriers, whatever sims they give, work fine.

why are you resistant to update your SIM card? also your 4G LTE connectivity will depend on your data plan.
I had a iPhone 4 3G Microsim and i had to go to AT&T to get a new sim card because my S3 would not pick up data. After a new sim card and adjustments to my account it was finally able to pick data.

Same thing for me, except i didnt need a new sim. All they had to do was change the imei on my account so my phone with that imei can receive data. The rep told me that its because you can only have one phone with data at a time, as opposed to just being able to switch sims just to receice cellular service for calls.
Post questions in QnA please

I went through similar a long time ago when I got my Atrix. I upgraded from a iPhone 3G and just continued using same SIM. At&t just updated my data to "4G" and updated my imei and everything was groovy from then on. I'm on a whole new account for my S3 though

3g will work if you use the regular apn. If you use the LTE apn (PTA), that will only work with an LTE sin card.

[Q] Force Roaming GSM Networks

My phone service, (i wireless), has mostly EDGE in the service area which really pisses me off.
I live in Garner and sadly I can't user Verizon's LTE which is available in the area because it is CDMA.
Anyway, I'm usually in a town which has AT&T in it (not Garner) and they offer 3G/4G.
I don't care if you think AT&T isn't the best, or is slow.
i wireless is having major network improvements this year and until I get 4G; I want AT&T.
How can I acquire their service, I want to force roam to them.
Can someone tell me how to do this?
I am running Android 4.1.2 (CM10).
Thanks!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=force roam at&t
WOAH ZOMG SO HELPFUL.
Honestly, that was really helpful.
I've already searched; that's why I'm asking here.
I've tried other methods.
Most force roaming is with CDMA networks.
Thanks for being so helpful.
Someone who actually knows help me please!

your APN settings are tied to the simcard.
the phone has nothing to do with roaming, your sim determines where you can and cant access towers (except for emergency calls, those are always allowed)

Yeah I know that.
But even if there's nothing but AT&T for a service and I try and select it, it won't work.
Changing my APN settings could work, but idk.

you need a sim that connects to the ATT network. you are using a provider that uses tmobile.
you're trying to do something with the phone that has NOTHING to do with the phone.
EDIT: also if you want 4g LTE through att, you will never have it as the phone does not support LTE in the GSM variant.

I'm not an idiot, I thought that that was common sense.
I want 4G HSPA+.
T-Mobile is a priority.
You can use AT&T still.
When I tried roaming to it though it wouldn't accept it.

i never called you an idiot so dont get all defensive.
prepaid plans generally do not let you roam. if they do, its usually voice only.

I didn't mean to come off defensive, I'm just tired.
My plan isn't prepaid either, it's post paid.
AT&T comes up as a network option and I have used it before on previous phones.
Did you ever get this figured out? I have the exact same problem as you. I also have iwireless and have the slow 2g when 4g signal is low. I am looking to force roam on AT&T when I don't have iwireless 4g. Hoping to hear back. Thanks

No lte on my galaxy s4

I have a completely stock galaxy s4. I never get LTE though. My girlfriends s4 gets it just fine and in the same exact location I still only have hsps+. What's the deal? I have the settings configured correctly and everything. There's zones where my phone just drops all data, before it reconnects. My first s4 had this problem, so I got it replaced at T-Mobile, and it still has the same problem. Customer service says everything on their end is working fine. I even had them boot my phone off the network and Put my phone back on and still. What's going on? Faulty LTE radio?
Could be a faulty micro sim card as well.

Not to hijack the OP's thread...but should users be modifying the APN or is that pushed from tmo automatically? I'm sitting on epc.tmobile.com, and getting LTE (LTE:14, guessing 13/14 is the band?) Is it worth manually modifying the APN?

OnePlus 3 AT&T No LTE

I have had my OP3 for over a week now and this whole time I can not get LTE service. It is just stuck on HSPA. I called AT&T and went to an authorized retailer and a device support center and my problem was not resolved. I contacted OnePlus as well but again got no solution.
HSPA is not too slow, as the download speeds are about 6 Mbps, which is tolerable. But LTE speeds are just so much quicker. One thing I thought I would try is dialing *#*#4636#*#* and checking in the settings in that menu. Under "Preferred Network Type," it says "GSM auto (PRL)," and every time I try changing it to an LTE option it just automatically goes back to the GSM auto option.
Does anybody have any solutions? Any help would be appreciated. Also, my APN settings are 100% correct, they have been checked/changed numerous times.

AT&T changed it for you? All I had to do was reboot after they changed it on their end and i was good to go. Don't know why you would swap sim trays though. Doesn't matter which one it is, both pick up LTE.

Once I provided the OP3 IMEI-1 to ATT, the phone would only get H using the sim in the 1st tray. Even after I got them to switch it back to my N6 IMEI. Once I put the sim in tray 2, LTE started working again.
I have straight talk which is a MVNO using ATT and I had just H service and it changed to lte service after an hour or so.
I kinda hate my one plus 3 when its off wifi, its always slow speeds and im on AT&T... Here in Oklahoma City.... My google nexus 6p never had this issue it didn't seem... ugh can anyone help?
