[Q] Ways to get OTA 4.4.4 and still stay Stock - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello fellas
This is simply: I'm S-OFF. I have the M8 with CID Telus, and just recently updated to 4.4.3 via OTA. Total stock, no modifications.
If I change my CID from TELUS001 to superCID 11111111 and if I get the 4.4.4 OTA update. I will get a modifications in the system or anything?
Take care fellas :good:

Once you go SuperCID, you won't need Telus's OTA for 4.4.4, you can just flash a stock 4.4.4 ROM from here.
All that Telus's official update will give you that's different is the bloatware apps that they have. And if you really want them, you can get them on the Play Store.
Personally, the first thing I do is remove the bloatware when I get a new device.
EDIT: I am also on Telus. The best thing about SuperCID is that you don't need to pay Telus to unlock your phone to use on another carrier. SuperCID will make it usable on any GSM network.

My phone was bought as free. No carrier apps, no modificationes, 100% original with 4.4.2 HTC sense 6.0
I don't want to flash update via usb. Just update via OTA. For security reasons (for me, personally)
Just one question. If I change to supercid. How can I get 4.4.4 OTA from, example, the international carrier or from HTC for no personalization from carriers.
Thank you.

You won't get an OTA. Your phone is unbranded with supercid. And you don't need to flash via USB, just download the stock ROM on your phone, enter recovery, and click "install". (after a nandroid backup, of course)
I've had 4.4.4 now for about a week.

Ok, I've get rid off
There is a method to get OTA 4.4.4? I want that my device install the update for me.
No 1.5+GB downloading roms, cuz my internet is like a nuts pain downloading big files )

You can't OTA the ROM, but a lot of ROMs (ViperOne at least) do OTAs for updates after you have them installed. The updates are usually around 150 to 180mb. Download it when you go to bed, and flash it in the morning (or later)

You are vey helpful for me and my trouble. I do thank you.

No problem. And I linked you to stock firmware on the other thread. Take care buddy.

My Phone was CID VODAP102 branded, I updated to 3.29.161.5 Android 4.4.4, went fine.
Now I am S-Off and rooted, changed to SuperCID, and wanted to flash the European unbranded OTA 3.28.401.6.
Is that possible? The Version number is lower, so I am afraid it causes trouble.
Would that wipe anything?

[Q] Update AT&T or Flash?

Hello Guys, i bought my htc one m8 some months ago and now i'm missing the updates.
My m8 is from US by AT&T with android 4.4.2 and now i live in brazil and it does not show new updates.
I don't know if it is some error or if it is normal from non-us.
So, should I flash a custom ROM or something? I Already have experience with previous android versions but with my htc i'm lost...
What should I do step by step? Unlock boot, S-OFF and flash?
Anyone? I really want to update mu phone...
You will only receive updates for an AT&T device while connected to AT&T's network. Most carriers in the world don't work this way (you will normally get OTAs on most other Android devices) but you can "thank" AT&T for this one. So for AT&T devices, yes this is "normal" and you will never receive an OTA with the phone in its current condition.
You can RUU to the latest AT&T software (which is currently Android 4.4.3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-ruu-m8ul-4-4-3-t2860423
Then wait for the Android 4.4.4 RUU to be released (hopefully soon). Backup any personal data before RUU, as your phone will be wiped with this process.
Alternately, you can unlock the bootloader (root, s-off, etc.) as you mentioned, and from there either:
- Install custom ROMs
- Or "convert" your phone to another version so that it can then receive "official" OTAs.

Oh, thanks for response, but how can i "convert" my phone?
I just install 4.4.3 from your link, and I did not realize the work that would have to rearrange everything again ...

Easiest way would probably be to use the Developer's Edition or GPE RUU. S-off or changing the CID may be required (and changing CID requires unlocking the bootloader and root). Either DE or GPE is not carrier branded, so will be better than stock AT&T software to most folks (for whom AT&T is not their carrier). But again with most RUUs, the phone will be wiped.
You may be able to do it piece by piece, although I'm not sure. Unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery, then flash a stock nandroid for the carrier version you want. Change CID (and possibly may need to change MID) and flash the stock recovery for your version. You may need to s-off and also change your firmware (bootloader, radio, etc.). Doing it this way is complex, might not even be possible. Although in theory it should work if you have all the pieces and s-off.
None of these approaches are trivial, and you should expect that your data will be wiped (backup anything important) regardless of the approach.

Figuring out CID/getting OTA Updates to work again

Hello!
I recently bought a HTC One m8 used. Sadly i did not check up on the Software and it was pre-rooted and had some older version of Viper Rom on it (2.7 i think). It was also s-on and had that bug (i believe it was a TWRP one) so it would not show me the CID nor the current version it was on. So my thought was that id like to initially get to the point where i would recieve OTA Updates again so i could update the base system to install any ROM id like. After doing research for hours and trying various stuff it seemed i could not get back to stock without the CID. So what i initially did then was use Method 2 described in this thread to Upgrade the Firmware which is now 3.28.401.9. I then change the CID to the google OTA Update one and installed the Google Play Edition Rom. The ROM was kinda buggy and did not work properly tho (i assume its still an issue that the underlying Firmware is not up-to-date enough) so i went back, changed the CID to HTC__001 and installed the stock 3.28.401.9 Rom + Recovery hoping the OTA Updates would come. It has not yet happened and i am not sure it will.
So here is my question: Will OTA Updates come if my initial CID does not match the CID i currently have even if i set it with fastboot? Is there a way for me to figure out my initial CID at this point? All i really want are working OTA Updates, after that i can install any ROM anyway, but this seems to elude me.
Thanks you!
Best Regards

Need help updating phone... H3G User.

Im on the same version of Android since i got the phone, the bootloader is unlocked with S-ON and it has been working fine since i got it. I heard 5.1 had been released, is there a H3G RUU for the new version or can i use the Europeon one.. my CID Num is H3G__001.
Because i am rooted it says it cant check for updates, can anyone tell me what i can do?
I thought about restoring the original software RUU and then updating, but what if my service provider hasnt released the update, unless their is another H3G M9 user on the forum who can tell me different.
Thanks.

Your best bet is to S-OFF, then Super CID. After you have done that just restore the newest WWE RUU. That way you're on the latest version and can continue to receive any new updates a lot sooner - none of that waiting for the network to release the update. Especially with marshmallow round the corner.

Other than the way you stated not really. If you don't want to go S-OFF then you'll need to restore stock and update, then root again.
Hey there buddy.
What the chance you backed up your stock H3G recovery.
I flashed TWRP and forgot to take a backup, now can't flash the update.
I posted in this forum asking in anyone had the UK H3G stock recovery but no answers.
Cheers.

Marshmallow Update

whats up guys?
Im a little confused on this update process. i have an ATT M9 that i converted to dev edition. with the new marshmallow update rolling out, its only going to the unlocked version. when i check the HTC website, it says that the dev edition is only in stage 1 while the unlocked and ATT versions are in stage 3. what should i do to get the update asap? keep the dev edition, or convert to unlocked/ATT version? How would i convert to the unlocked edition without an official RUU from HTC?
you already have the answer, anyways ill paste it here for anybody else..:
1.unlock bootloader from htc.dev
2.root twrp 2.8.7.1-beta / SuperSU 2.52
3.S-Off sunshine $25 USD
4.Change CID to Super CID 11111111 MID to 0PJA10000 (international=unlocked).
5.Flash latest ZIP Ruu through SD Card Method
6.This will give you stock WWE UNLOCKED, do not flash any custom recovery or anything else, twrp will be ereased, no more root, stay stock!
7.OTA until you get 2.10 firmware (STOCK).
8.Be Ready for MM! OTA =D
Unlocked generally is WWE Edition, unlocked phones from USA are rarely seen, but you can tottally be sure this is the option, there are only 2 (unlocked) FIRMWARES Dev (current 2.11) and WWE (2.10).

rite, but the update says USA only as of now which means the WWE edition wont be receiving it first. no?
i got a fail to update due to custom software detected on device, relocked bootloader to see if that fixes anything......
I just updated my HTC One M9 unlocked edition and it's a shame there's no System UI Tuner available (kind of expected this though). The quick settings is still same looking; I wished it looked more like stock LOL. Other than that, I'm happy about the permissions; no more location services for a ton of apps . It seems to be much smoother, especially when you flick the apps away from the recent apps drawer.

Hi, and sorry for the inconvenience but my phone is not rooted or anything, I have just kept it stock. No mods, no custom recovery, nothing unfortunately. I would have definitely provided the XDA community with one if it was rooted/had a custom recovery. Sorry man!

HTC 10 Bell

Hi guys, I got the HTC 10 bell variant at a good price and since is my back up phone I'm trying to put it to the test to change it from bell variant to the US variant, I was reading a lot of threads but im confused, , I unlocked the bootloader, I instaled the twrp, now how do i change the CID ??mine shows 666, and I want to change it to 617 , do I have to have S-OFF?? or I can do that with S-ON since the Bootloader is unlocked , will I get the OTA updates for the 617 after i change it?? (btw i dont want to chage it to 401 international because im afraid i will loose the band 4 LTE )
I'm with bell and changed to us unlocked. There might be a way to do it without s-off like maybe super cid. But to install ruu.exe you need s-off. You will get ota but to apply all you need is to reinstall stock recovery.
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
You can't change your CID and flash the Unlocked version without S-OFF.
Thanks guys for your replays ,btw nitramus can u pls add a step by step how I did it??I'm new with the HTC
Since you're at the cid part just look for the thread for changing cid and flash ruu. And look at the thread with all the backups for all the versions or stock rom. You will have all you need, latest available rom with ota. To prevent any problems as soon as your phone is ready to use after ruu and you logged in to you account apply ota right away, then flash supersu and have fun.

Yes to convert your phone to U.S Unlocked you'd have to S-off to be able to change your CID. You gotta pony up the 25 USD, which is worth it in my opinion if you're gonna use the 10 as your main phone and tinker with it for a year or two.
Basically follow the steps from this guide, and when it comes to flashing an RUU use the Unlocked one you can download directly from HTC.com
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/guide-how-to-drand-convert-htc-10-to-t3374593
BTW it's very fitting that Bell's CID is 666

OK did that so I have S-off, I changed the CID on the cmd , and than I flashed with RUU_PERFUME_WL_M60_SENSE80GP_NA_Gen_Unlock_1.53.617.5 than update to the latest ones that they pop up to update, nice Thank you ,btw if i want to change S-on will impact the updates or should i keep it S-off??
Personally I don't bother to change back but if security is important for you then maybe. Later depending if you want to change things again depending on what you do you might still need s-off.

If you are rooted and/or have a custom recovery, you can't use the official OTAs. You'll need the stock and never rooted ROM (it has to have an unmodified system partition), and also the stock recovery to flash it.
The easiest (and often quicker way than waiting for an official OTA) is to just flash a firmware.zip package in either fastboot or by the rename/SD card method.
I recommend the ones on this thread. You can find both Full Stock .zips there, that will wipe your phone (because they contain the boot.img), and No-Wipe .zips that won't wipe your phone (obviously) as they have the boot.img (kernel and ramdisk) removed, and also contain the latest TWRP recovery versions instead of the stock recovery.

To add regarding future OTA updates, if you want them directly from HTC you'll also have to remove SuperCID, if you have it. Just having a stock/unmodified system and recovery isn't enough.
And I agree, just keep S-off unless you're making a warranty claim.
