The picture will be oriented based on the way the phone was when it was captured. That info is encoded in the image and certain sites and apps use it.

I've never had a phone so that before (n5).... Weird when the pictures is upright and then send it and goes sideways

Something is not right.... I take pictures in portrait mode, send picture with hangouts and the picture is sideways! Really frustrating!

Yeah I have the same thing occasionally. Thought it was just the sms app I was using. Evolve Sms btw.

Yeah, happens to me every day now..... Get most of my complaints from iPhone users! IPhone 4s, iPhone 6 & iPhone 6+. Hopefully this gets fixed, very annoying!

I don't think it will get fixed anytime soon. I have had the same picture orientation issue on all my Samsung phones, s2, s4, and now the Note 4. Seems to work good on Samsung apps, stock TW roms, other apps, phones appear to interpret the picture orientation data embedded in the file wrong. Proprietary crap, on my older bose headset made for iPhone, the earbud volume buttons won't work either... They're wired differently.

If this is ongoing issue, will be my first and last Samsung phone! I take lots of pictures of my 4 year old , 2 year old and 6 month old. Everyone texting me that pictures are sideways.

When I find out one of my friends has an iPhone I stop sending them pictures... Problem solved... [emoji12]
Let them know when the S5 is on sale for 1 dollar and they will thank you.

Nah, just upgraded to iPhone 6 64gb, 128gb and 6+ 64gb

"Upgraded" ;D

If your recipient has an android just tell them to rotate the picture lol. That's the beauty of android you can rotate pictures whatever way you want in the gallery. I highly doubt crapple phones will do that.

I found the first negative reason for Zero Lag Camera!

I let a coworker look at my phone because he is interested in getting one. Needless to say he is very jealous of my free upgrade from Three. There was a stapler on the desk and he took 33 pictures of it in about 4 seconds. You can tell he was impressed. Naturally, having Google+, all those pictures uploaded to my account. If anyone has a small data plan, like the 500 meg ones, then letting others test out the camera can use up you monthly allowance really quick. Thankfully I'm on the all you can eat plan.
Does anyone else have this issue?

Just disable auto upload within the Google+ settings!
Under the Gallery app, just set it to only sync on WiFi
I'm on 500MB, so this is very useful. I had the same issue, about 20 pictures of our offices in a few seconds.

this sync you speak of is download only I think, as in it pulls photos form picasa to your device, but doesnt upload what you take
only instant upload via google plus is what the OP should be concerned about
correct me if im wrong
I have set Google+ instant upload to WiFi only, not had a problem with it
Lol...

The good news of having to delete loads of pictures is that my coworker wants a GN. He was considering the iPhone 4s.
I hope this was a humorous negative for you all.

Most people want an iPhone 4s.. until they see what Android can do

I am the only one who finds the "silly faces" effect hilarious?

If you go into the camera and select video recorder, there are effects options. The "silly faces" crack me up.
Same here. Its fun.

I just wish I could do it with the camera as well, would be hilarious to take a group photo with huge mouths.

agreed. Not quite sure why they are just available in the video camera but nonetheless, still a fun feature.
The first time I tried it I was staggered it was doing real time effects. Everyone who has seen it also loves it
To take pictures with silly faces, simply start recording and then tap the screen. This takes a snapshot while you are recording!

It's disabled with special effects turned on.
I should note that the silly faces and effects also work through Google Video chat. My 2 year old nephew loves video chat for some reason, and he laughed his ass off when I turned the effects on. So, it's good for amusing kids, I guess.
You can also take the video then screenshot what you want a picture of. Its worked successfully for me so far! And yes, the effects are awesome.

The big eyes effect is so dope. I made my girlfriend have even bigger puppy dog eyes
Those effects are the first thing I show people when I'm showing it off. Everyone loves it.
have a friend that looks like quagmire from family guy, so the big mouth effect was an instant hit with everyone when i took a video of him

GMail contacts image quality fix on the way!

A Google Lead PM acknowledged the issue and quote:
"This is work in progress guys. We are fixing it "

A great step forward IMHO as we haven't seen any reaction from Google on this issue in years even on the official support forums.
Oldest dated bug seems to be Issue 4147 from 2009 on Android 1.5...damn.
Wow, finally!
This is the only embarrassing thing about Android when I show people my phone. I personally use Haxsync or find other ways to get high quality images for my contacts, but it should be a native function. It's a no brainer. I'm glad they're pulling their **** together and FINALLY addressing this!!
Right, it's irritating that I can save high resolution contacts, but upon wipe/resync they degrade.

I look forward to the update. However, 256x256 is still not high resolution enough. The screen is 720p for Christ's sake. Even when I try to use 21mp portraits directly from my gallery, the images are downsized to 256x256. It's embarrassing.
256x256 is fine considering the size of the caller ID screen.
Few days? Yet this is still not fixed...

The Caller ID screen takes up the full width of the screen, which is 720 pixels. I can certainly see the pixelation when I get a call, even after using a nice and sharp high-resolution image.
Finally! Great news!
This can't come soon enough.
Finally!!!! What took so long?

I'm totally fine with redoing everyone's pictures but notice how the last "official" response was 11 days ago. This really should not be that complicated..

i think we better start snapping new photos of our contacts as we bump into them to have them ready for the refresh. i've got some in there from ppl i haven't seen in ages, does this mean i have to meet old friends again?
so we have to sit tight and wait.....unless someone can pull this again

About time. It is embarrassing to show a pixelated contact picture. Its like watching a 700MB avi video on a 50inch 1080p LCD TV....ugh!
FINALLY! Nexus has such a beautiful screen, it looks so weird when someone calls and you see a pixelated picture!
For all those people shouting "Finally!" remember... it hasn't happened yet.
They were "working hard" to get Google Voice in Canada over two years ago...

yea, so do the fruit labeled phones when using gmail contact sync
Unfortunately, the Google PM is keeping quiet, no real updates for the past month or so.
I have a feeling they're gonna fix something once Google Drive is launched...
hmm, do you see what i see @ 0:53?

Default messaging app questions

So I switched to an iphone 6 (i now have a 6s) from a note 4 almost 2 years ago and have gotten very used to the imessage app for texting. Im considering purchasing a note 7 but wanted to find out how the default messaging app on this phone compares to imessage.
When youre in a message thread is there a way to view all photos from that conversation like how the details tab in iOS does it?
Also, one of my biggest issues with the note 4 was the lag when typing. Has this been resolved? I see a thread about this exact issue but i'm wondering if this is affecting everyone or just a few users.
Any other tips for switching?
Sorry. Most of us don't speak iOS. No idea what iMessage does differently. Had an iPhone 6s. Lasted 10 days with it. Comparing the note 7 to the iPhone 6s is like comparing telegraph to email. If you even have to think about it, don't switch. You're just going to find reasons why you don't like it. Switch when your ready. You won't regret it.

Yes, it is similar to iMessages, you can view a recap of all photos sent.
Thanks, do they remain there indefinitely?

yup unless deleted manually or if you have app settings set to delete message automatically once a certain threshold is reached.

Did you use to have a iPhone? I heard sometimes apples serves will still recognize you as a iOS user and it can screw with MMS to and from iPhones . Maybe it's trying to iMessage you and it's failing or something or sending a different fetype because it thinks your still on iOS... I may be wrong but that's something I heard of.

I heard it was the stock messaging app that lessens the quality. Try a 3rd party SMS app. I'm using Chomp.
