System Updates - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it just me or does sprint seem to have system updates multiple times a week? I just switched to sprint from Verizon and noticed it seems to system update very frequently. My fiance has sprint and she said that it is very normal and she has them multiple times a week.
What could they possibly be updating that much?

... do what?

I've noticed this as well. I had an N3 and it didn't do this. I'm gonna call if it keeps doing it

Are you talking about receiving actual system updates, or simply checking for system updates?

if you are talking about the "system update" notification in the notification bar when you boot your phone up that is simply checking for an update and not actually updating.

No worries...its just checking for any updates. There hasn't been any yet.

That would make sense - However when this "check" happens my phone appears to lag quite a bit. Coincidence?

Crashing issues possible cause

I just had another crash replying to a post here using tapatalk. The keyboard had small pink corruptions as if video memory had an issue.
I pulled the battery for about 10 seconds, tried to turn it back on. No dice. I tried again except pulled the sim as well, that worked.
Maybe some of us having crashes are sim related?

I've had to do a second battery pull today. Phone locks up then about 5 seconds later the display goes dark. Not fun.

I froze twice in the past three days. I was using hand cent and browsing. The battery had to be pulled in order for restart.

Yesterday I noticed GetJar was keeping the device awake (in battery stats), but otherwise it was responsive and all good. I uninstalled GetJar and rebooted for good measure. It powered down fine, but wouldn't power back up. I had to pull the battery.
My first 'battery pull' so far!
I had my first crash today while I was replying to an SMS message. The screen produced these broken specs of green.
I couldn't exit from the SMS, eventually the screen turned itself off and then nothing.
I had to perform a battery pull to fix.
When the phone booted back up ICS complained that the launcher had crashed.
Instead of clicking 'stop' I clicked 'wait'.
Phone returned to normal after that.

Did you guys restore old apps/app data from your previous Android device? If so, factory reset and START FRESH.
I can't count the people I know that had issues all stubbornly because they refused to start fresh from a new device.

I didn't use a restore. I just added my Google account and let the phone download my apps that I more or less had from my Nexus One.
Is that OK to do?
Or should I have done something else??
Let me know, Thanks.

This is how it works. When you login all the apps install automatically.
I just noticed this morning that a bunch of apps I had uninstalled already on my GN automatically reinstalled. Odd right?

If you have "force 2d rendering" checked in the developer settings, that will cause many issues.

I don't have this checked.

I don't have any dev options on. I'm basically seeing what others are. Lockup, sometimes with screen corruption, then the display eventually goes black some short amount of time afterward. Battery pull required. I thought it may be heat related at one time but it has happened when the device was relatively cool. Seems like a software driver issue that can hopefully be addressed.

Only one update, open or uninstall , wtf?

This happens a lot , but if I hold update back hold update back a couple of times it will finally show update.

what are you talking about?
ota updates?
He's talking about the market apps updating. Although I would have had no idea if I didn't have the problem myself.
Clear market cache.
And speak coherently next time

Oh I guess you had to be there.
App updates in the regular market, if there is only one update and you click on it the next screen says open or uninstall , instead of update .
And if I go back and forth a few times it will let me update . I was just letting y'all know that's another way to make it work .

When that happens to me I just give up and wait until there's more than on, then Update all. But it's annoying. Glad I'm not the only one experiencing it.

Happens on multiple as well its usually only one of them not showing update. Had 4 showing today but titanium backup was like that.
I believe this is an issue with the new market. I've had this issue occur on multiple phones. It should be resolved soon I'd imagine...

That happens to me when on Wifi. Once I switch it off and fall back to 3G, I can update it.
It has to be Market side... I get the same thing happening on my ET4G, GT10.1 and my wife's HTC EVO Shift and Galaxy Tab.
Clear cashe and it fixes it... For a bit.

Disable the system update notification?

Is there a way to disable the system update notification getting tired of having it pop up and I know one of these time i'm going to accidentally going to hit install
Thanks

I'm rooted and running the stock rom. (I finally have a working GPS) So I went ahead and edited my build.prop file. Did a reboot and no more system update notifications for almost a month now.

[Q] Ongoing Wifi notification

Hey everyone,
I want to get rid of that ongoing WIFI notification, so I tried to follow the steps here:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/07/0...g-wifi-notification-on-the-verizon-galaxy-s3/
However, after rebooting (tried 2-3 times already) it still appears! I double and triple checked the value -- it's set to 0. I don't know what else I can do to get rid of it. Any ideas? I'm rooted with stock recovery, stock ROM.

From reading the article, that looks likes its just a notification reminding you to USE wifi, not informing you that you are connected to "said" wifi. At least that is what I assume you are talking about right?
That just disables the notification alerting you to use wifi, if it was existent.
I hate the icon for nfc in status bar worse then the charging one

Why not just disable WIFI scan under advanced settings that also does the trick for me

Yes this is exactly what I'm talking about. In the notification pulldown, there is a constant notification entry called "Wifi Connected". I'm wanting to get rid of this but I haven't found a way to do that yet
At least, it's not on the T-Mobile version
We get wifi calling notification

Is your bluetooth turned on? When I turn mine on it kicks me off wifi and it starts the connecting/disconnecting cycle.
It's also not present on the Telus version in Canada.... maybe when people start creating ROMs, they can sort that out. For what it's worth, Telus's ROM is practically bloat free aside from all the Samsung apps. Zero carrier branding. Pretty impressive.

Mine has done that from day one. I have to keep it away from my face and make sure the screen doesn't time out. not sure which is making it stop but that's my only fix so far. But it did it previous to this update.
You have to disable favorite cards from samsung pay then its fixed
Apparently others are getting nav bar updates as well as June Security Patch, the recent OTA still has May patch. Is Verizon being slow with the rollouts or is it also the other US carriers?
The only issue I'm having is that my phone will vibrate for no reason at all.
