[Q] Are you able to see colored emojis without root? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using the Sprint Note 4 completely stock at the moment and I wanted to see if there was anyone else having issues with seeing emojis in the stock messaging app. I'm using the stock keyboard as well. If I send an emoji to someone it cannot be seen unless it's in a group text. If someone sends them to me I cannot see them either.

Picture in Video Form

Why do pictures become videos in the messaging system? Is there any way to change this? Thank you in advance.
I'd like to know a solution to this too. One that doesn't involve rooting or installing handcent/go sms/any other 3rd party messaging app.
I believe this cannot be changed. It has been like this on any smartphone I've had (lots of them)

Yeah its really annoying feature in the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II. The only solution that im aware is using another Messaging App
I'm using Go SMS Pro and its very handing... I definitely suggested over any other 3rd party Messaging App
yea... i wish this phone wasn't like this.. but at same time i love it.

I've had a few and seen plenty of phones without it. This is a new "feature" to me.
The original Mytouch 4G had this same issue before they rolled out the update (which included a fix for this issue), but since we've already received the update to 2.3.6 on the SGS2 our only hope is ICS if we want to continue using the stock messaging app.. which I happen to prefer.. so yeah I'll just deal with it until ICS.

4.1 "Messaging is sending a large number of messages"

Have been getting this since updating to Jelly Bean. Haven't had this problem before. I am trying to have a conversation with the old lady. Anyone have a work around?
Before switching to verizon I had T-Mobile and always had that with me my G1 .. since this is actually a gsm ROM maybe that's where it come from

Can I ask, do you mean that if you try and send 1 text it sends 3 or so, or am I misunderstanding?
BANE
No, he means that if you send a text message, get a response and send a new text message, and sends another one you will get that warning message. It is meant as a security feature if an malacious app is trying to send multiple SMS's you will find out.
Saw a similar thread some days ago, but I don't know if they found a workaround for it or not.
Dude I am getting this to and it annoys the hell out of me I have i9250 with tmo and with ICS it didn't do this and I increased the number of texts for it to save and still does this.... I get this message after every text I was in cm went back to stock for jb and now dealing with this and there is just something about being stock I like better but I cannot deal with this

Well, it's nothing to do with the amount of messages to store. It's how many messages you send per minute (or something) that causes that message to appear.
Are you using 3rd party messaging app?
Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus
Nope stock messaging

Any more info on this? Only happens when you heavy text in. Short period of time. But annoying none the less

i'm having the same issue on my gnex with 4.1 jb ...any work around it ?
Just started to get this today. Super annoying!
BUMP!
How can we disable this message for this app?
Bump.
Have the same "issue" (even if it is not one). When I send two or three messages to one person in a reduced amount of time, the warning message pops.
Not something truly important but it starts to bother me..is it a control integrated in Android itself or just the messaging apk ?
Everyone should take a look at this thread and see if the fix works for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831289

Dammit you beat me to it, this fix does work if you are using most AOSP based roms, for some reason it does not work on Stock JB but so far has worked on any other custom rom ive tried. simply install open up app and accept what its telling you and you are good to go.
Wow, so good, seems to be working on ParanoidAndroid 1.9.92 with the APK. Thanks !
There are ways to remove that notification
There are some custom ROMs that have removed that notification. If you still see it, there are apps on Google Play (like SMS Limit Unlock or SMS limit tool) that can remove that limit completely. Tried both and only the first one worked on my Android 4.2.2 device, so you're welcome to give them both a try.
(And you will need root, of course...)
Set SMS message limit
Try to look under Settings --> Security --> App Security -> SMS message limit
I have it there and have set it successfully to 200.
of course - it is in settings

Great, those settings under personal/security are so well hidden I had somehow managed to set that to "none".

Terrible image quality in MMS...

Alright, so I know some of you are probably going to say "just send an e-mail!," but it's a bit inconvenient (not to me personally, but maybe to the person I am trying to send it to) for them to open up their e-mail just to see an image when I could just send it as an MMS through my default SMS app.
I was wondering, is there any way to fix this? Whenever I send an MMS the quality just gets destroyed by compression, which is annoying when you have a decent, in my opinion, camera that takes quality photos but can't be shared through mms because of compression. I've tried using alternate mms apps like GoSMS (it sends the people a link when the file is uploaded which is annoying, though it is full quality) and ChompSMS; when I change the limit, Sprint just rejects the image even though ChompSMS says it sent (which they do provide a disclaimer for in the settings).
Is this just something to do with Android or is it on Sprint's end? I feel like Sprint compresses the images for their network, but it's really stupid in my opinion to have a good camera on a phone for no reason because you can't even share the photos properly. Even over Wi-Fi the images look like total crap when sent in MMS or even uploaded to instagram/facebook. I have to upload them to Dropbox and upload them to facebook or wherever from my laptop if I want the normal quality out of my camera.
I do not believe Sprint compresses the images as the images get compressed before sending. It's more of the stock app issue. I have no issue sending big images using a 3rd party sms app (Tencent)

So it's an issue with the stock app on every version of Android? I don't think I remember having this problem when I was on stock android back on Gingerbread or even ICS (custom roms). As far as I can remember, it's only been happening to me while on a JB Rom, stock or not.

From what I researched its only on 4.1+ ROMs in general.

Yeah, I read somewhere that it wasn't introduced until Jellybean came out, but I don't really see the reasoning behind it. Even on the stock rom it does it, we should at least have the option to turn it off.
What are some good sms apps that don't try too hard to look like the iOS messaging app and allow users to send uncompressed images through MMS that you would recommend? I couldn't find tencent, only Handcent, but I didn't like that one when I tried it. I've tried Chomp and GoSMS as well.
I meant Handcent. Oops.
Well the only ones that I know of are Go SMS, Chomp, and Handcent.

Hmm, I've used Sliding Message Pro I think it was called, but I don't remember seeing any settings for MMS quality or anything like that. I do know that GoSMS would send people a link instead of the image, which would then open up their browser and they could see the picture and that when setting the max to 5mb it was just rejected by Sprint all together.
Guess I'll have to keep looking or go back to ICS/GB. :\
Thanks for the help, though.
I myself don't like using handcent cause it just looks childish. I only use it to send pictures though. I use the stock app for everything else.

Exactly, that's why I strongly dislike using any 3rd-party messaging apps. They all have poor design.

It doesn't appear when you use the built in Samsung keyboard. If you install the stock Google Keyboard it shows up.

[Q] Need help with Hangouts and certain 4.4 ROMs

So I need some help with hangouts, for some reason that I can't figure out hangouts group messaging is working on some ROMs but not others. I flashed vanilla unicorn 4.4 and hangouts worked fine but now I have carbon 4.4 and hangouts works for SMS and regular MMS but has no option in settings to turn on group messaging and won't handle group messaging. I don't know a whole lot about ROMs so I don't know what exactly to look for to figure this out. Does anyone else have this issue? Someone on another thread said to check the build.prop on both to see if there are some differences. I'm wondering if it is a similar issue to the nexus 5's where its not recognizing the number for some reason. Any help would be appreciated.
New version of hangouts is out. Any luck?
