Note 4 gets hot when using camera - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
My Note 4 gets pretty hot when using camera (either when camera is just on, taking just low as 3,4 pictures or using viber, Skype or tango). Phone becomes hot in back by camera and screen area itself. Once camera goes off everything it's back to normal in a minute. Does anyone else is experiencing something like this? I asked this on another thread but this way question might get more attention and more answers.
I just realized next: when I turn the camera on and put phone next to my ear there is something like static sound coming from speaker. As aoon I exit camera, that sound is gone... Can someone try this?
Thanks!

Wow... OK. Did anyone at least try to test for this sound and press home button while holding phone by the ear?
Update:
I just got of the phone with Best Buy and they confirmed couple cases of Note 4's overheating as well. Well, at least I am not the only one...

Hi there,
I have exactly the same problem. After open the camera and take few pictures the phone back and especially phone screen will be very hot. As soon as shutdown the camera and keep phone not used about 10 minutes the phone returns to normal. I was looking for the advice how to solve this problem but so far could not find any answer. if you have any good solution please post here for reference. Thanks

coming from the htc m7, im not used to my photos being post processed on the fly. i didnt know the first set of photos i took with the note 4 it was processing filter effects on my face which leaves me nice and smooth looking.
so im thinking all that extra cpu power during camera use for on the fly post processing could be heating your phone up.
maybe scrounge around the settings and try to turn all that off??
mine doesnt overheat, the screen does get brighter when using the camera as with most phones ive used which ive always thought was on purpose when using indoors and outside.

[Q] Does anyone have a rattle from around the camera?

Little problem with my Galaxy Nexus, just want to know if anyone else has the same with theirs before i take it back as a faulty unit.
If i tap the back of the phone around/ above the back camera i can hear a little rattle. I first noticed this by simply putting the device on a table and heard something that sounded a little loose so looked to find out where it was from. It doesnt seem to effect anything but if no one else has this i will be returning it just incase it does become a problem in the future.
Just sounds like something inside isn't fixed properly and is tapping on something.
It doesnt happen anyother time except when i put the phone down on something hard or physically tap the back near the camera.
Anyone experiencing this?

No, thankfully my GNex is fine (I just tried it several times to make sure).
My Atrix and N1 both had that, and while I didn't notice in degradation in camera performance, when the phone vibrates it is super annoying...
I always thought it was the shutter.
If you hold the phone vertical and tap on the top back corners, you can hear it... sounds like a rattle. I think its just the shutter. Probably not a big deal.
Had this on my N1 and G2x. I've always heard this. I would assume some cases are worse then others
Guys, this is totally normal... The camera lens is not a fixed item. It has moving parts to enable autofocus. The iPhone does it, my last HTC Desire did it... and, I even found this poll for you which shows almost 90% of phones do it in that thread. (I bet the other 10% were not tapping it)

I experienced the same thing though it happened randomly. I tried to put my friends sgn2 side by side with mine and his phone doesnt have this problem.
Is this hardware problem? How to fix it?

I don't know. Seems to happen on my note 2 randomly.
Today it happened to me in dim litted situation. So it seems not limited only on bright situation.
Yes, I had this problem some days back! Damn, I was going to wipe my device for this, then thought about un'smart' stay and just rebooted the device, got fixed!
Btw- The smart alert feature is also not responding for me sometimes! When I pick the device up from the table beside my bed it vibrates sometimes, but most times it don't. Don't know what's going on!

These smart features use the front camera as the sensor to determine the condition. Should there be any defect on the hardware, itu must be the front camera. But I find my front camera to work well on taking photos. So I wonder what caused this? software? I don't think so since I was using the same version firmware with my friend and only mine got that problem.
I have no idea what is the cause of the problem.
If anyone had these problem, please describe it here so we can get an idea what might caused these.
The software does what it can. It confuses our eyes with other things. it has happened to me. I think it's more meant for you to look at your phone and not turn off rather than being able to 100% distinguish your face in all situations and know to turn off the screen. Most of the time it works though. I'm happy! But usually to not waste battery I turn off the screen when I put it down.

There is an issue with the proximity sensor, its not working some times.
Heating issue is present but it depends up on the apps. playing games like NFS is causing more heat than any normal games.
Rear cam is damn good no issues about that. never faced WIFI and random reboot issues
Yes, You might be having them but you see, They are only Software Bugs... Don't worry Man! We have software Updates Support...
There are many software bugs.
I think Cyanogen will fix all the bugs in future updates. No software is perfect out of the box! Let's see how cyanogen deals with the promises along with YU.
Reboot issue
I own Yureka & my phone restarted once or twice when I play game, especially Clash of Clans.
I guess this is the CPU heat issue, still checking. I have underclocked CPU to check if phone reboots randomly or not.
Will post results. Meanwhile if anyone have solution, I would be happy.
GK.

Hi,
So with these kind of issues like heating/reboot, etc.... you mean to say that we have some kind of solutions, and not to bother though every phone faces the same issues, if am i correct.
And, we can go and grab this phone though we get it below 10k which has good features where we dont sunch phone.
I'm impressed with 2GB-RAM mostly.

Hi. Thank you for reply.
Finally I have found solution.
I underclocked CPU to min 400 max 800 MHZ and set IO scheduler to noop (that is FIFO with very less CPU cycles)
I have found considerable less heat issue now without any lagging with COC. Also now battery lasts much longer than earlier. I am very happy. Cheers !

Hey! For those wondering how the camera on the Yureka really is, here's a screencast of the same so that you get a feel of what it really is! youtu.be/oSkgd8jwCKs
I'm not allowed to post links so please add http:/ in front of the above address to view.
Else search for screen cast recordings on youtube of each phone. You'll get a feel of how the camera really is

[Q] Camera slow focus, and other questions

Ok I have noticed my Note 4 can take the LONGEST time to focus. I mean over a minute sometimes. The only settings I have on is HDR and have video set to record in full HD. Is this normal for the Note 4? Just curious as I am coming up on 30 days and if its got a camera issue I can exchange it at ATT.
Normal !
Lots of people having that issue, me included. I just choose to live with it.
One thing to make it focus properly is pointing it up and tap the screen, then it would focus normal (macro or not).
Hopefully it would be fixed in Lolipop.
Attempted to fix
Hello, I recently got the Note 4 myself about a month ago too. Since I purchased it from Best Buy, I thought I had 30 days to exchange it once I noticed and endured the camera issue. I waited too long. However if you go to the Samsung Repair Center and tell them your issue with your camera they will fix it. However, when they attempted to fix it, they ended up frying my motherboard and I had to wait 3-4 days while they received a new motherboard. Afterward though, everything works perfectly and its instantly focusing. The frying motherboard is probably independent of the camera so its a gamble if you want to risk it, make sure you back up all your data and go as soon as early as possible since all the Samsung Repair Centers get busy fast.
Google: "Samsung Repair Center Locations" and pick, I cannot post links as I just made an account to post this.
This is NOT normal. It should focus right away. The Note 4 is one of the first phones to have moving parts in the lens, and Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS). Apparently there is a problem with it sticking due to many factors, I'm guessing most of it is from shipping since there is no padding in the boxes. Once you load your camera app and it doesnt focus, try slapping the side of the phone, if it focuses then, return it. I had 2 replaced due to this issue. If you can return within your return period, do it. Everyone else can just do a warranty replacement.
I am having the same issue, but am able to correct it relatively quickly by rotating to potrait or landscape depending. Not quick enough for those "moments" necessitating instant response time though.

I am using two phones - one personal (Note 4) and the new BlackBerry Passport for work. I do notice that Note 4 is pretty slow with focusing. The darker it gets the longer it takes to focus. I think it is pretty normal. Just the software is like that.

Depends on the lighting. If it's dark I set it a bit higher (600 to 800)... Bright out I set it to 100 or 200. I also really like camera fv-5. Try it out if you want an amazing picture experience

Thanks for all the tips!! I will be trying them!!
When I first got my Tmobile note 4, camera focused really fast, in a split of a second. Then one day, it suddenly slowed down to several seconds being unable to focus at all every time it started, sometimes up to 10 seconds. I had to tap it, shake it, or rotate it, then it starts to focus.
Today, I tried to reboot into safe mode to see if there's any downloaded app that might be the culprit, and no improvement at all. I started to disable pre-loaded apps, turning off GPS didn't help. But when I disabled/turned off S Health, the camera focused almost immediately just like new. Camera on and off, tested repeatedly, it worked very quick and smoothly. Afterwards, I turned on S Health again, seems the camera keeps working normally. Under low light, I do have to tap the focus ring one or two times to make it focus properly.
My testing results are when S Health is completely disabled, the camera focuses super fast. When S Health is turned on again, it slows slightly by maybe half to one second. I vaguely remember the focusing issue happened sometime after I turned on S Health. I suspect it'll slow down again after S Health has been running for a couple weeks. I'll keep an eye on it.
Maybe S Health keeps holding on some sensors until camera app asks for them, which may take a few seconds. S Health does slow down steadily when more and more data are accumulated. But at this point, I can't say for sure that S Health is the real problem. YMMV.

I think I should write a follow-up on this issue.
My previous method of turning off/on S Health worked only temporarily, unfortunately. After a few days, auto focus problem came back again. Basically the symptom is like this: leave the phone sitting on desk for a while, say 10+ minutes to half an hour, the camera app has focus issue that needs 10-20 seconds to start auto-focus, like something suddenly wakes up. When camera app is opened/closed several times in a row non-stop, there's no auto-focus problem.
Also tried the method of modifying /system/build.prop file, didn't work.
Eventually what worked for me is this: my phone has wallet cover, so I tried the method someone suggested, slapping the top back part of the phone against my palm. It took me three tries, once a day slapping 10-20 times. I thought it'll never work in the first two days, but still tried the method. The 3rd day, it suddenly worked. Now the phone auto-focuses properly.
However, there's one issue, initially the phone takes picture just like +1ev is set when the setting is actually at zero, and range of view showing on screen is like shrinking by about 5% on both sides. To take normal pictures, had to manually set to -1ev. What I did next is doing the opposite, slapping the top glass/screen part of the phone against my palm. It took several rounds of back & forth slapping, loosing fast auto-focus then getting it back, etc. Now it looks like it's only at +0.5ev, which is acceptable, photos are slightly brighter than normal. Most probably picture size is also back to original.
So my feeling is maybe there is a hardware defect with Note 4's camera module. Right now, I'm ok with it. But the final solution is probably buying a new camera module and replace it. If you're handy enough, that's not a bad idea. There're youtube videos showing how to replace, but I'd prefer not peeling off the screen from main board. Comments on videos showed how-to not taking off screen when replacing camera.
I have same issue with camera. Since getting the phone it's been so slow.
I finally just found that tapping the screen pretty hard right about where the camera is located jolts it enough to focus quickly.

I've had the same issue with the camera, it was pretty fast when I first got the phone and it slowed down over time.
Recently I accidentally dropped the phone as it slipped from my hand and the issue seemed to have gone away for good (knock on wood).
My brand new Note 4 (back in November, I think?) couldn't focus close up (& keep it), was slow to gain focus at all, and made me despise the camera. Had to use the warranty service to replace it (didn't get it at a corporate store --got it at an authorized retailer-- and the one I got worked a thousand times better. You have a hardware defect. I found people in the T-Mobile forums I think back then having similar problems. Nobody ever found a "fix" outside replacing the camera or the phone.

You're right, the HW is defective. Eventually I bought a new rear camera, and replaced by myself. Easy fix. Worked like a charm, focused in a split second again.

Camera issues after new lense and signal issues ("LTE!")

Been having the signal issues since updating to MM but haven't really been able to figure it out.. Usually just hit the airplane mode for 5 seconds and it comes back. That's what happens on several ROMs so I'm guessing it's just my phone.
My other issue is with the camera. My images were blurry as hell so I figured I'd replace the lense. Well it worked.. Somewhat. My pictures are clearer but not what I'd expect. Especially when I zoom in, everything gets boxy. Is that something all G3s do? Can't really remember zooming when I first bought the phone.
Thanks in advance for your time..... And thoughts plz help me fix these damn things
