Hey guys hope I'm posting this in the right place but i am officially in the dog house..
So few yrs back i owned a gs3 and to date my favorite phone of all time..long story short, i now own a gs5 and love it as well.but my wife cam to me about 3 days ago says hunny can u do that kool thing u had done on ur phone where u could customize almost anything to ur liking?..i said sure no prob..so i used tatanium backup backed up everything including data (i know mistake #1)..flashed a nice rom for her she actualy was loving it.until of course she realized all her contacts were gone..and i said no babe just log in to ur google account and all your contacts will be back (nope.0, nada, zip, siltch zero, nothing...so i said no worries i still have everything backed up with titanium back up let me just do this and...nothing but core errors and heart ache..now I'm assuming that since i installed a 4.4.4 rom feom a 4.2 that there is my problem...now my question is.do any of u fine ppl know how can i get theae conyacta out of here maybe on a pc or something?..and no i can't go back to my original rom becauae im a moran and deleted it!! ;( ..guys pls help me i miss my bed.

Hasn't she been saving the contacts on Google and not just the phone?
If your TB backup of contacts and data is corrupted and she has not stored them on google then you are out of luck. But if they were on google she can see them on a computer by logging into her google account. My guess is they are not syncing...so make sure contacts is checked under google accounts sync. Then they should appear. Also if she synced Facebook contacts, that account needs to be added and synced.

Thnx for the reply kennyg..but no she thought she had all her contacts saved on there but no theres nothing there..the contact and data are not currupted its just they run on diffrent .core...somebody has to know a way.pls.

Please forgive me if this is the way you were restoring it, but this is the way I do it every time and it works no matter what version of Android I am going to or from.
Open Titanium Backup tap menu button then batch actions, tap "run" next to 'Restore all apps with data', popup windows asks if you want to restore "Snapshot" "let me choose myself" or XML. Pick XML.

tap "deselect all" and select radio button "data only" go down to "Messages (SMS&MMS)" with the TB icon, select it and tap green check mark at the top, should do it for you.

[Q] First Kies Backup on My New Sprint Galaxy S3 Contains 7778 'Other Items'

What's going on with this backup? Many of my apps from my other Android devices (HTC EVO 4G, ASUS Transformer 101, Kindle Fire) automatically installed when I logged into my Google account. I've also uploaded ~350 JPG's. But where did all of these 'Other Misc. Content' 7778 items come from? The backup via USB has dragged on for over an hour now with 2500 items to go. Kies provided no warning of the time the backup might require, gives no indication of how much longer it's going to take, and just cautions me not to disconnect my phone.
This is why I don't backup or restore with Kies. It takes forever and you get all kinds of stuff you probably don't want. I don't check the box to have Google back up my phone when I flash a new Rom either. I like to install everything fresh, especially with a new phone.

I understand...Kies backup sucks. I've since rooted the Sprint Galaxy S3 and am using Titanium Pro. Thanks for the reply.
You bet. Can't go wrong with Titanium Backup. I have system apps backed up from a couple dozen leaked ICS roms on my E4GT. If I flash a new Rom and something is missing that I want such as the ICS Calendar, I can restore it with TB.

do you have a copy of the asop clock anywhere? I can't figure out how to set the default alarm sound in the touchwiz one....
Sent from my SPH-L710
Not sure what clock you are talking about but I have a desk clock that's pretty cool. Are you familiar with the 7zip application for Windows? I think their is a Mac version, too and you can download it free. You can use it to extract apks from roms and then either add them to another Rom before you flash it or copy it to your pc then move to your phone. If you want an app from a Rom, download the Rom. Open 7zip and on the left corner of the app navigate to the Rom. Once the Rom is open, click on system>app and you'll see all the apps in the Rom. (There's a few in Data>app too.) Right click the apk you want and select copy, paste it somewhere on your computer, then add it to your phone. If you want to add an app to a Rom, open system app with 7 zip and drag and drop the apks you want into the folder. Exit 7zip by clicking the up button in the upper left of the program. I'll pm you the desk clock. If you install it, you'll get a clock widget that looks like this

Does Titanium Backup Pro backup call logs and SMS messages?

Hey there
I have Titanium Backup Pro and I want to perform a full system backup before I go ahead and install a custom ROM (Android Revolution HD). I just used the "Select All" feature and to be honest was too lazy to read through the whole list, so I was wondering if call logs and SMS messages are going to be backed up as well? I chose "Backup all system data + user apps". Or would I have to get a different application for that?
Thanks guys!

Go backup pro is the best, both call log + sms + system setting + mms + apps ...
Thanks for your replies. One more question, since when I restore it would seem to restore system applications as well (which are perhaps older than the current ones because I was running 4.1.2 while Android Revolution HD uses 4.2.1) are they going to replace the current system one or will they be ignored? I see most of them in red, does that mean they are left unaffected?
I use XML import / export for Call logs / SMS / Wifi Points .. You can find it in Titanium > Menu Key > Backup Data to XML under Special Backup / Restore .. These XML files can later be imported using Restore Data from XML under the same menu.
Thanks for your reply. I encountered a lot of restoring problems with Titanium Backup that I decided to reinstall the original firmware (unrooted and everything), then root, and attempt to use Titanium Backup to restore everything to its proper order again. If that doesn't work, I'm screwed!
Yes

Rule of thumb, if you're restoring from same base i.e., 4.1.x then it's OK to restore system apps as well but I've always limited to the green system apps for data only. If going from 4.1.x to 4.2.x then Never restore system apps. Also in like manner, some suggest you restore user apps only without data when changing roms with different bases. Sometimes old data can lead to FC.

Save settings when changing ROM

I've been changing ROMs once a week for a while now, and it's just tiring to set the phone up all over again everytime
Is there a way to backup the homescreens, settings and all of that as well?

Restore a nandroid backup of the custom roms..
As far as homescreens are concerned, use nova/apex launcher which saves the homescreen prefs..
For apps, use titanium backup!

App backup isn't really the problem [Though I do hate using apps like Titanium backup, simply cause if I download from them and not from the Play Store, I don't get auto updates], what concerns me more is home screens, which is tiring to do everytime
I really hate using Launchers, especially those 2 which take away the Sense look ... isn't there another way?
Use titamium to backup the htc sense app data. Should work if you remain on same sense ver.

Restore it after you have installed all your apps of course. I just tested on my rom. Backed up, deleted stuff from home screens then restored data only in titanium and home screens were back.
Be aware its best to start from scratch though as restoring across different roms may cause probs. You can always clear sense app data though if it goes wrong

Titanium backup helps not only with sense -> sense rom.
You can save your wi-fi access points, wallpaper, contacts storage, people and complete programs when migrating to other rom.
Contacts and list of programs are stored in your gmail account, so theres only ringtones missing.
Now days wifi settings are also stored in your Google Cloud if you have enabled Backup in Settings > Privacy
But there are alternatives:
App called Helium - App Sync and Backup
And I used a adb script to pull the home-screen before changing ROM and push it after all apps were restored.

[Q] Samsung Contacts App Not Working

Hello,
On Saturday I flashed Clean ROM ACE 5.0 onto mine and my wife's Samsung Galaxy Note 2's.
The one problem we're both having is that the contacts app stops working. (It worked fine for the first day for me and my wife's was good until today)
No amount of wiping and re-flashing is working.
Going to settings->application->all-> and then clearing the data in contacts and contacts storage doesn't work.
Even on a completely fresh flash of the rom, without installing any other apps or setting up our google accounts, we'll still get the message "unfortunately, contacts has stopped".
I've tried installing new samsung contacts apps into the system/app folder with rw-r--r-- to no avail.
I've even changed custom recoveries...
Strangely enough, 3rd party contact apps work, but I'd like to just keep the 'stock' samsung one if I could.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Changing recoveries WAS not needed too get a APP to work for you!!!
You ever think that it might be a bad download you had since you flashed the same room on both phones! And got the same results from both!
Anyway you can also access your contacts from the phone APP! Just in case you didn't know.. What I have set up on my Pie app to access the dialer/contacts... pic here:

I would start over fresh, since you tried flashing other Samsung contact apk. And everything else you were doing trying to get it to work! Might have corrupted your system..

Yes, opening up the dialer/phone app and tapping the contacts tab get the same result "unfortunately, contacts has stopped working".
Even, starting a text message and trying to choose a contact doesn't work.

After 4.3 update camera shutter sound gone?

Hi all,
This may be a totally noob question and feel free to delete the thread if it's been answered before but here goes. I updated my S3 via Kies to the 4.3 update and all went well and seemed to be working ok. However the camera now has no shutter sounds. I know having it silenced is a good option but sometimes hearing it helps. I've tried changing volumes, rebooting, everything. The only answer I get from Samsung is to factory rest the phone. Would that help? Is there another way? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please check your camera settings?
A factory reset probably won't fix it

Thanks for the replies. I checked all the settings and volumes and they all seem fine. Looks like it's time to root.

I checked and theres no option. I don't think the Sprint variant has this option. It would definitely make life a lot easier if it did though. Thanks for the reply.
Found this. Didn't test it myself (I'm running MOAR rom). Might work for you?
Cool - I done this and it works a treat!!
**EDIT: This post refers to a mod which activates an unused menu option to switch off the shutter sound. Other sounds in the camera app will still be present. Thought I'd clarify this in case of any confusion.
Just in case anyone else wants to do this (I think this would be the 'correct' method of applying this fix as opposed to removing the sound file or muting your phone!), then here is a little guide.
Root access required of course, and I used Root Explorer to do the following:
1. In Root Explorer, navigate to the following location:
/system/csc and look for a file called 'others.xml'.
2. Long-press on this file and select 'Open With', and then select 'Text Editor'.
3. Scroll all of the way to the end and look for the following:
</FeatureSet>
</SamsungMobileFeauture>
4. Insert the following line just before the </FeatureSet> code.
5. Then pressing the 'Back' button will automatically save the file and back-up the original in the folder.
6. Restart your phone.
7. Now when you go into the camera, tap on the settings, so you get camera settings, video settings, and the general settings in a pop-up, press the settings icon/tab and scroll down and you can now select to toggle the sound on/off (second-last option).
Thanks to all above for guiding me to this little fix, it takes no time at all to apply. The camera sound was annoying me a bit and was surprised to see it wasn't a supplied function.
To revert, simply go back to the file you edited, delete it, then remove the '.bak' from the backed-up file.

And all credit to the original Dev. for the code for this mod, at this thread:

I'm wondering if flashing a stock 4.3 tar via Odin would fix this?
