[Q] External Hard Drive compatibility
Hello Everyone,
Can anyone tell me if an Externel Hard Drive works with SkyHigh kernel ( or any other kernel) (without using a powered USB hub) ?
Because it doesn't work with the stock ROM, while it's fully working with my galaxy S4 using a simple OTG cable.
Thank you !

SkyHigh kernel works with my FAT USB powered WD HDD connected via USB OTG adapter. It should also work with NTFS (not tested), although you'd probably need the paragon app to mount it.

Great news ! But can you please tell me what is exactly the file to edit to make it work on stock rom. ( I guess it has something to do with power management and USB OTG output current limit).
Or even better, could you please make directly a patch that we can flash via Recovery to make it work on stock rom ?
Many Thanks !

A patch is impossible, You need a custom modified kernel and compiled from sources such as mine.

Does this kernel work on 10.5 LTE Snapdragon ??

You aren't listening. .....
Changes are made in kernel source before compile. User cannot patch anything.
I personally use official stock T705 ROM, you can flash the correct kernel for your device and use kernel defaults (as it is "out of the box". Synapse just gives better User control.

Thank you, I'll flash your kernel then

I just flashed your kernel and I tried to run my HDD, but it's still not powered up.
I installed Synapse, so what are the settings to make it work.
Thank you!

You just don't listen or read. This is my last reply to you and now ignored.
Please re-read my first post in this thread...... I use a USB POWERED WD (Western Digital) HDD connected with OTG adapter. This works for me. I never said it would work for you, up to you to try yourself with own hardware.
I also said you can use the kernel without Synapse......

I perfectly understood your answer, I'm just asking for YOUR PERSONAL SETTINGS, nothing more.
Thanks for your help.

I have 2 Samsung Galaxy S Tab 10.5's.
1: T800 32gb (Avail only from Best Buy)
2: T805 16gb (Wifi LTE International Unlocked)
My phone is a LG G3 is anyone was wondering.................
Anyhow. I have flashed this Kernel on my T800 stock rom.. and it works very nice.......... No problems.........
I have flashed this on my T805 Stock Rom, and it works except for the SDCARD.. it wont let my sdcard mount...
So access to my external sdcard is a no go..... I have tried a few things to see if it was just a bad rom or what.. but nothing worked.
I have flashed a few diffrent stock roms.. and still couldnt get it to work. But like I said. it works great on my T800........
Could anyone explaine what might be happening or what I might be abe to do. Im about to flash the beta thunderrom on my T805 and then try this again and see what happends...
if works I will report back... I dont have the thunderrom on my T800 because I didnt like how it messed up some of my settings. but thats just a personal reason,
My T800 is my main driver.. as for voice services, my LG G3 is my main Driver........
Thank you for any and all help you can provide me...

Sorry, don't have time to go looking through logs, working on new device.
Please post your:
ROM version
sdcard type, file system, encryption etc
Ensure you did flash the T805 kernel for T805 and not the T800?
Backup extsdcard data and reformat EXFAT or FAT
Also make sure Storage settings USB is set to default and reboot. You could also connect to PC abs try toggle MTP > UMS > MTP > DEFAULT (wait for PC to recognise drivers and mount before toggling to next) and reboot

Is there is any plan to support color correction in new version?

Rom Version, I have tried so many stock versions, (I have Unlocked International) so I tried many stock versions. and a few Custom versions. my T800 runs your kernel and it has a 128gb External sdcard. and everything works great. the Internal Memory of that Tab is 32gb which is my understanding only avail from Best Buy.
The T805 is a 16gb with a 64gb External.. No Encryption.. I have reformated it 3 times in fat32. Im starting to think its something to do with the 64gb not supporting. because when I stick my 32gb in.. it works 100%.. it Doesnt recognize the 64gb.. Funny, because all the stock kernels do...
And I have had the same problem with a few diffrent custom roms except one that kept his 100% stock. So something thats being set in the kernel on the T805 is causing the 64gb mem to not be supported...

As suggested, did you bother to try reformatting the extSdCard with exFAT or FAT32 ?
The T805 users the same kernel source as 700, 705 & 800 and exactly the same driver is complied. My 705 uses a 64GB card with no issue.
Maybe also try and brand of card.
You're also said that you had a problem with some custom ROM. .... so then it is not just with the kernel.
"Not being recognised", what exactly does this mean? Is this what the device says and under what circumstances?

I mentioned Rom with custom kernel, not the Rom if self.
Anyhow man. I don't think it has anything to do with your kernel. I was just seeing if you may have some type of idea.. the card is formated in fat32 as all my sdcards are. When I took out the card and put my 32 In, it worked. Just doesn't want to work with my 64.. that 64 used to power my LG ft no problem there. My LG G3 has 128gb as so does my T800. .
I'll play with it again soon and see what's up... BTW, as I said before, the stock kernel sees the 6th with no problem.
Thank you anyhow..
Note to self: I hate auto correctors that make more work for me. Talking about this app.

[Q] Infamous Tab3 Support OTG?

Does the Infamous Tab3 ROM by Jamison904 support OTG? To me, this is the biggest shortcoming of the stock ROM by Samsung, and would be great to correct.
Jamison904: WOW!, this ROM looks GREAT!
Thanks MUCH!
Isnt OTG implemented in the kernel ?
So it is not a question of the rom....
There was one claim that it worked for him/her. We are still waiting for his screenshot or evidence. To me it is not software/ROM/kernel but the HARDWARE does not support OTG usb.
kernal
Try some of the kernels, now the version2 of the 1.6 is tested..

I am too new to this to know which is more likely, but I can add some data about my Tab3 7.0(SM-T210R) on v4.1.2m (kernal July 18 2013) :
- I am using an OTG adapter and setup that has worked with other Android phones and it does not work with the stock ROM/kernal.
- The stock ROM/kernal does have some support for the file system, as the /mnt and /storage directories both show "UsbDrive A" ... up to F are in the filesystem.
- There is no indication in the Setting Storage menu for the USB drives. I have seen these USB drives on a TAB3 8 and 10 inche models.
I doubt it is due to hardware, as why would Samsung order different parts for one model than another?
I suspect it is disabled so people have to buy up to the 8 inch, but I LIKE the size of the 7 inch.
I also think it might have been stripped out of the RON/kernal so to save space, as the 7 inch is only 8 GB.
Hopefully Jamison904 or someone who has loaded the InFamious ROM can let us know if it works on the 7 inch.
Anyone tried it?
@rfmic
In Infamous Tab 1.1, the kernel is stock and USB OTG does not work yet.
ketut.kumajaya was working on it in his custom kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439564
Someone posted a picture of the controller built in the tab and it should work with USB OTG, its just not implemented in the software.

Tab 3 3g sm-311 and Asix AX88772A usb pan with OTG

Hi to all friends.
I just bought an Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 3g sm-311 and I have a request for help.
I just rooted it and it works fine.
In my job they do not use wifi and I am in the need to use internet through my tab 3.
I already own a usb Lan card with asix chipset (AX88772A) that works fine with any pc and mac I ever used. Many people have connect it with OTG cable. It detects it but no drivers re installed in the tablet.
They provide drivers For Android 1.x/2.x/3.x/4.x, Linux kernel 2.6.14 and later that needs to be compiled to kernel.
I do not have the knowledge to do that. Can someone help me out on that and explain how I will put back the kernel ?
I would like to thank everyone in advance .
Best Regards
Anyone ?
Umm.... I think everyone with the 7 inch model of the Tab 3 is having that issue..... Some of us think that it will come through an uupdate or somthing.... Otherwise iv tried to push the persmissions using a xml file which says its detected and thats all....Still dosnt work...:crying:
You can download PPP Widget from the Play Store. Samsung devices lack the Option driver in the stock kernel, so you might need to get that separately. They don't need to be compiled into the kernel. You can have them as loadable modules. The forums on draisberghof.de may provide a link.
The ability to load kernel modules has been removed from the stock Android kernel from Android 4.3 onwards, which sucks, but we can always use a recompiled kernel.
No lack..... do you think that I should contact samsung ?

What have you tried? Did you get the drivers? Samsung will be unable to help except point you at their kernel source, if they do respond.
Please check this thread on the usb_modeswitch forum and request Josh for drivers for the specific kernel for the Tab.

[Q] Very low screen bright after reboot

Hello everybody,
I,ve read all around the forum but I couldn´t find information about my problem so i try it here.
From stock V500 20d I rooted and Installed TWRP 2.7.1.0 thanks to the good information in the Forum. After that, I've installed the ROM CM11 (M10) and, from the first reboot, the screen bright is very low. I hardly could do the first configuration and when it finished I selected the full bright.
After some time working it seems that it recovers some bright and I can down a little bit the bright from top.
Every time I restart the device I have the same bright issue.
Can anyone help me?.
Thanks a lot

Extremely common problem when you were on the 4.4.2 base and are now an AOSP based rom. You either need to change kernels to RedKernel or flash the tablet back to the 4.2.2 base and then reflash your CM rom.

Ok it´s done
First I´ve installer V500-4.2.2-Base from recovery, I have reinstalled CM 11 and everything OK.
I have tried a step beyond and I have installed [KERNEL][v500][4.4.4][AOSP] RedKernel [16/09] (everybody seems to be very happy with it) but, after install synapse I run it and appears "No UCI support detected". Seems that kernel doesn´t support it.

What he said!
This confused me at first too. In the very early days of redkernel he included his own forked version of the UKM scripts those have been removed because the UKM script maintainer agreed to merge his changes and therefore he doesn't have to maintain his own copy (better for all involved so he can focus on kernel development). Search the thread you will find a link to where you can download the official UKM scripts and your problem will go away.
I currently run redkernel on the 4.4.2 base myself. I have not reverted to the 4.2.2. base since my last factory restore. I am very happy with this configuration...

I had the same problems. Mine was two fold, my sd card was dying (I have since got a new one) and the 4.4.2 base was still sometimes having an issue that sd card monitor would show as a bad removal. This was even with the new sd card. Once I switched to Infected's build of slimkat with the redkernel I have not had a bad removal (after running this way now for over a month) and the sd card monitor used to track at least one bad removal a week with stock 4.4.2. I have no idea if this will help others but it is working so far for my device. I am always running sd card monitor since I had problems and it is still reporting a clean record.

You didn't ask, but my approach would be:
Use LG tool to revert to 4.4.2 stock
Root with towel root
Install recovery and loki (I need to get you a link for this, but it involves editing a batch file to tell it to still install with revision d instead of b)
reboot recovery using adb, and immediately unplug cable
flash a recovery designed for 4.4.2 (2.7.0.1) from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551499
Then install infected slimkat, redkernel and the ukm zip files
I never use the 4.4.2 base files to flash the device to 4.4.2 I always use the LG Tool and go from there.

Just curious … is there something wrong with flashing the base files to switch between 4.2.2 and 4.4.2?
Now that I have two Gpad's I plan to install 4.4.2 base on one and compare it with 4.2.2 base on the other. Just wonder if I can tell any difference.
Thanks for the info.

I am unaware of a problem with the 4.4.2 base files provided. I have just never used them, I already had the LG Support Tool downloaded and it was easiest to use the path I knew and was comfortable with.
The key thing (and why I run the 4.4.2 base instead of the 4.2.2. base) that is different is the brightness at its lowest setting. The 4.2.2 base on many of the V500's suffers from alternating light and dark spots on one side of the tablet when viewing the tablet in low light with the brightness at its lowest setting and viewing gmail (any app with a white background basically). I use my tablet mostly in dark conditions like this (man I make it sound like I live in a basement somewhere *laughs*). The 4.4.2 base firmware changes the tablet so it functions well at the lowest brightness.
The first picture in this thread shows the screen problem I refer to (although not on a white screen):

[Q&A] [ROM] Validus LP v7.0 3/11/15

Q&A for [ROM] Validus LP v7.0 3/11/15
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM] Validus LP v7.0 3/11/15. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Works great!
I just wanted to stop by and say that everything is working great so far. I also wanted to post my setup/procedure in case it helps other people having problems.
First, I wanted to increase the size of my /data partition, because I was always bumping up against the limit with my installed apps. I followed the instructions provided by Lorien_Silmaril in this XDA thread.
Step 1) Flash the provided pit file using Odin 3.09 to repartition.
Step 2) Flash Chet's recovery. The file provided there is designed to be flashed from inside your current recovery. At least, it flashed fine when I flashed it from inside TWRP 2.7.1.0.
Step 3) Format data, cache, and internal sdcard as F2FS. TWRP also gave me an error about preload, so I formatted that as ext4.
Step 4) Flash Validus
Step 5) Flash Gapps. Validus recommends the Paranoid Android Gapps, but the XDA threads have been closed. You can find the appropriate Gapps packages with a Google search; my search led me here. Since the /data partition is now so large, I don't have to try and squeeze apps into the /system partition just to save space, I can install them normally. Thus, I installed the pico gapps, and just installed the other apps via the market. I recommend you do the same.
The result is a dark themed lollipop ROM that already seems pretty stable. I've been using it for less than a day, but I've noticed very few stability problems or other hitches. My thanks to Lorien_Silmaril and chris4284!
I think if repartitioned the rom would be helpful because this rom is fine but if the sultan as having 11GB of storage for applications and usb storage was excellent. There is a partition that is in 8gb applications and 5.25 gb usb storage; this is awkward because I do not want so much size for applications, but for the USB storage.

Radio
I have a t989D that was originally on Koodo in Canada. Moved to the States and flashed the uvle1 to unlock it. My build is imm76d.tllg2 . Now I want to start flashing some custom ROMs (was hoping to give Tesla a try, on a friends recco.) What radio should I flash? Must not need the Koodo one, as I've already flashed another for unlock. Should any work, and do any have advantages? Thanks in advance!
Screen Flashes
I installed validus..after fixing the radio thing...i do experience screen flickers...any help? is on this rom only apparently...
Awesome Rom!
I just made an account to thank you guys. The Rom has worked flawlessly for me , and the only stylistic problem I had was softkeys on the navigation bar as it resulted in having duplicate keys with Samsung standard keys also active. I first downloaded an app to hide navigation bar, but after some tinkering with phone settings ( The void/ Buttons/ Navigations bar Height - set to 0 dp) , the pesky navigation bar was gone!
Thank you very much for a wonderful release.

Hi Wallywonderbadger ,
I also have same kodo phone , and once you unlock it using UVle1 , you can flash any rom/radio you wish. For the newer ROMs ( Including Validus) , I would try either tlmc4 or uvmc6 radio. They both worked for me for newer Roms( >4.3) . A google should take you to the radio download pages, but if you require any help, don't be hesitant to ask for it- I will be glad to give you the links and steps.
Facebook app installation problem on Tesla 2.0 RC
Hello,
I installed Tesla ROM 2.0RC and have been using for a few days. I have to admit this is the best ROM I used on T989 so far. Big thanks to developers for great work.
I like the ROM being very stable and smooth, support F2FS partitions. The only thing that I could not do on this ROM is to install facebook app. I tried several times using wifi and gsm, but if always fails for unknown reason. I am sure that I have enough space on /data partition, because I flashed 8G PIT file. Has anybody seen that issue on Tesla ROM? It is not a big deal, I can live without FB app, but maybe I am missing something here ?
Thank you,
Boris
installed the latest Tesla on my Hercules and i can say it works great compared to other custom roms. Its much faster and stable.
Anyone know how to disable BLN in Tesla?

[Q] Which ROM should I be using?

Hi,
I'm new here (hallo @all) as I'd like to install CM on my Tab3 8.0" mainly because of the privacy-settings (have to use some apps who requiere more Rights than they need, 3rd-party-tools are not working, but my Xperia running CM can block unnecessary Access-Requests without distrubing the functionality of the App)
So actually I'm not sure if I should give the CM12 a chance (or try CM11) as Images can be found in the Development-Thread...
I'd need following things working:
Wireless
Bluetooth
Frontcamera (for Skype)
SD-Card (as I've read threads mentioning problems with ext. SDCards)
(Video-Playback from DLNA-Sources (and/or from SD-Card) would be great)
and as a must:
Privacy-Settings (readjust app-Entitlements) must be running...
...everything else working is great, of course (especially no big(ger) drain on Batterylife than with stockROM)...
...reading this - which ROM would you recommend me?
Shall I give gr8nole's CM12 a chance or are other Images more suitable for my requirements?
Thanks for your answers and sorry if I should have posted in the wrong Section...
Cheers,
the unlucky

If you want everything to work AND to have the ability to adjust app permissions, you should give my NoleKat rom a try. I have enabled the App Ops feature in settings.

This is my first time to root a tablet. I have successfully rooted my Samsung Galaxy tab 3 7 (SM-T210R). But know I dont know were to go from here. I see posted about removing bloats from the system, and overclocking but not sure what I should do. Any suggestions, I was leaning toward installing CM11 but have not took that leap yet.
Thanks gr8nole for the hours you have spent programing for us novice guys.
