Let's get Evolutive Labs to make the Rhinoshield Crash Guard bumper for Z3c - Xperia Z3 Compact Accessories

Here's their iPhone bumper: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1081571316/rhinosheild-crash-guard-slim-impact-bumper-for-iph
Z3c with this bumper in combination with tempered glass front and back would be my dream setup: very robust without bulking the phone up and sacrificing its sexy appearance. It would make the grip better too, I find the most slippery part of the phone to be the plastic side edges.
I emailed them asking if they're considering doing a Z3c version. Here's their reply:
Hello Adam,
Thank you for your interest in Rhino Shield!
The bumper for iPhones is our first stage and we're evaluating the possibility of doing bumpers for other models. If there are enough demands for Z3C, we are happy to do the bumper for it as well. We'll record your demand and will let you know when we have any updated news for Z3C.
Cheers
Jo

Video Review: Otterbox Commuter Series Case For Galaxy S2!!!

Hey guys,
Super excited to bring you the full review of the Otterbox Commuter series case for the Galaxy S 2. This case met and exceeded my expectations, definitely recommended. It is super protective, clean and feels great in the hand. You can watch the full review below:
nice review mate (yet again) you are a good talker on camera do you do them off the cuff 1st time or is there much editing
about the case , i think i prefer the casemate tough . same sort of style case yet doesnt seem to have as much silicone exspsosed to attract dust and also seems to fit a bit tighter to the handset then the otterbox .
The top bit that wont lay flat would annoy me like it did you so thanks for pointing that out .
nice review mate keep them coming

Many thanks for the compliments. I usually make a mistake here and there but nothing major, if you look at some of my older videos you will see it's just a matter of keeping at it and practicing haha.
I've got a Tough for the HTC Sensation and I can relate to what you mean, the Tough seems to cover up more of the Silicone, however the only thing I'm not a big fan of is that the Tough leaves the bottom portion very flimsy.
Thanks again, more videos to come!
wow mate keep up the videos, love the content, thanks
I actually don't have the raised silicone at the top that you complained about. It may be because your phone is White and modded that its dimensions differ from the original galaxy s2

Someone commented stating that as well, it may be because I have an SGP Glas screen protector which adds some thickness.
I have the same issue, and it doesn't have a screen protector.
This case is perfect without the front silicon.

Thanks for letting me know that. I was starting to think it was my SGP Glas but now that you're experiencing it, perhaps some cases have their silicone a little more stretched than others.
FYI, some people were wondering if/when Otterbox would release their Defender series case; my contact said this:
Also, to the best of my knowledge, we will only be making a Commuter Series for the Galaxy S II, not a Defender Series as well. Sorry to disappoint. If that changes I will let you know.

Hi Ploone,
Awesome reviews you do here! Glad to see you like your Otterbox case as much as I do. One thing your review doesn't cover (it didn't really need to) is the included screen protector. Here is my short review of that:
The included protector appears to be there for the sake of being there. It isn't sticky, which is about the only pro I can think of. It is a fingerprint magnet. It's finish is one that not only do fingerprints look awful when the screen is off, but actually interfere with the colours of the screen when it is on, mostly when viewing lots of white. It is hard to tell if it is interfering with my touchscreen, I really do think that it has affected sensitivity just a bit, but that could be a placebo.
All in all, if you are cheap and anal (like me), you will find yourself using it because it was "free" with the case. I do want to look into getting an SGB Glas protector, but don't want to spend another $35 on that, and then get a 32gb class 10 microsd at another $70+ lol this phone is costing me too much money!!!
Or maybe I'll live with it as is

Hopefully Trident Cases makes one, they usually take their time to release a case (as they did with the Nexus S) but they are good quality and I've been pleased with their products.
Thanks for the nice review. IMHO the Case-Mate Box is probably better as the four corners of the SGS-2 are protected by the hardcase as well. The Otterbox seems to protected the corners only with the silicone parts.

You could possibly buy it from http://www.rearthusa.com/OnePlus-One-Case-Protection-Absorption/dp/B00MQ72YTK ? I'm saying possibly because I kept getting weird error messages while signing up as a new customer.
My experience from the past tells me that similar case from Spigen is much better than Ringke. I wish Spigen had a ultra hybrid case for OPO, but it seems very unlikely so far.

Speigen told me they have no plans of supporting the OnePlus. I even asked if it was a typo because it's really weird they'd support the amazon fire phone which will sell like 15 units (sarcasm) but the OnePlus won't? They again confirmed it wasn't a typo and they won't be making cases for the OnePlus.
Hm wow nice. So ringke changed their mind and are now making a case. Was a fan of their fusion case for the nexus 4, their nexus 5 case not so much due to the sharp edges. I hope that there's a version that is black and not the clear version as this case.

Looks pretty good and probably the nicest clear case at the moment.
Glad to see another company make a case, had a ringke fusion bumper for my 5s and loved it.

What I like about Ringke's clear version of their case is that the back isn't busy. OnePlus's official transparent case was like that, but it was flimsy and apparently didn't always fit. Tudia's case is more sturdy, but the details of the transparent version interfere with the look of the phone. If the product graphic is accurate, then the Fusion case will combine the best of both transparent versions of the earlier cases and avoid the defects of either one.

What do you mean by it isn't busy? That it reveals the back?
The Ringke's Fusion series all show the back, the only difference are the sides of the phone. Instead of that being clear its a specific color. See http://www.amazon.com/PROTECTION--E...8215367&sr=8-3&keywords=Nexus+5+Hybrid+Fusion
They also offer "Slim" which is a hard case similar to the official OPO hard case.
But yeah, I've heard bad things about the OPO official cases and how it didn't fit properly or how the hard case cracked after a couple days use.

I explained my issues with the clear version of the Tudia case in this review:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/accessories/review-tudias-tpu-case-problem-t2841695
The frosted part of the case is exactly where you don't need it: on the middle, largest and widest area, which obscures the sandstone and custom back covers you might have have wanted to show off. The only reason I wanted a transparent case was to feature the back cover. This case doesn't do that. . . . [Also], the details of the design conflict with those of the half-exposed OPO, both highlighting and obscuring logos and lines of text. Additionally, the Tudia logo runs sideways vertically beside the horizontal Cyanogen text and logo, which makes the back of your new minimalist phone look like a complicated double exposure. . . . The division between the clear and frosted portions of the case are accentuated by a line of thinner transparent plastic, which segments the OPO into three sections.

I didn't mean to ask about Tudia. I meant about being "busy" I was confused on what you meant by that definition.
But other than that, I really do like the Ringke Fusion cases, hopefully this time around they won't have the sharp edges problem. Do note that the back of the case tends to attract finger prints on the back.

When I say "busy," I mean that extra design elements in a clear case can obscure or fight the design of the back of the OnePlus One. Given that one of the phone's features is supposed to be a customizable back cover, showing off the back cover is one of the reasons to buy a transparent case. But if you divide the case into three segments, obscure part of the back with a less transparent frost color, and place your vertical brand logo so that it crisscrosses the Cyanogenmod logo and the print beneath it, then you've added clutter and occlusions to the back of the device which, in my opinion, should look clean.
In the graphic on Amazon, the back of the Ringke case looks less busy -- i.e., cleaner -- than any clear case for the OPO that I've seen so far.
But other than that, I really do like the Ringke Fusion cases, hopefully this time around they won't have the sharp edges problem. Do note that the back of the case tends to attract finger prints on the back.

I assumed that shiny clear plastic might attract fingerprints but didn't know that Ringko cases sometimes had sharp edges. Thanks for making me aware of that.
Ahh I understand what you mean. Well for the Nexus 5 they had sharp edges on their case, their Nexus 4 case did not. Rearth does have good customer support though and their cases are pretty cheap. I wouldn't have a problem with ordering from Rearth. In the past they've sent a defective case where it wasn't a tight fit and they replaced the case for free without having me send the defective case back. I think the problem was eventually resolved but not 100% sure.

[CASE REVIEW] CaseMate - Tough Case for Sony Xperia Z3c

Hello everyone
I'll be doing a short review, for the CaseMate - Tough Case for Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Smartphone.
I'm not a professional reviewer, so I'll speak as a casual user.
Here's the official page for this case : Tough Case
Let's start with the basics, I ordered mine through Amazon for 27 euros and it arrived in less than a week , wonderful job from them during this time of the year.
I received the package this morning at my favorite drop point (Relais-Colis, quite useful here) and I decided to pick it up on my way to work.
As I am the impatient type, I decided to try it on as soon as I got back in my car
Unboxing
Well, let's be honest, I'm kind of disappointed with this case... The plastics look cheap and dont have the "tough" feel I expected from them.
But it's not the most problematic point since most manufacturers tends to do this, the case doesn't fit my brand new phone the way it should do it but it's easy to see why.
CaseMate didn't think through the whole thing, by leaving the left top side (the USB connector zone) unprotected to allow us to easily charge our phone, they weakened the corner construction and allowed a gap to exist between the case and the back of the phone.
Gap between phone and case
Another view angle
Coming from a product with this price tag, this is a huge let down for me.
I even tried to force the case to fit (not too much, didn't want to break my precious...) but to no avail, the gap is here.
Well, on the bright side we can see that CaseMate really tried to do something sturdy, the 3 corners where the phone is fitting nicely confirm this.
All in all, it could have been a wonderful product but something, somewhere, went horribly wrong...
[EDIT] Right below, @madsb produced pictures of his own Z3c with this case, so I tried it again to check if I did something wrong, well I made it fit a little better but it's still not perfect and I still don't think it will really protect the whole thing.
The pros
The 3 fully protected corners looks... well... protected
Unusual design
The cons
Cheap plastics (both internal and external layers)
Wrong assembly for the top left corner
High price
Verdict
I'm fairly disappointed at CaseMate for selling me some sweet dreams with this case and for delivering this kind of finitions, they could have really worked a little harder to fix the top left corner, as for the look and feel, it's nice but not enough to redeem the former flaw.
So for me, this case is a no-no
I've already arranged the return & refund with Amazon, I hope my next case will do the trick this time.
[EDIT] I've just ordered a Ringke Fusion (Black mate), should be at my doorstep in a week, I'll post a review asap.
Q&A
Anyone here bought the same case but didn't have this issue ? Or are we all doomed with this not-so-good case ?
There is someone who used a Case Mate Tough case from a Z1 Compact. He said fit was perfect but minor alterations will need to be done for the camera flash. Buttons lined up and worked, power button was slightly off but said it still worked fine. I'm tempted to buy the Z1 case and cut it for the flash and the magnetic charger, if you look in the Z1 forums the magnetic charger cutting has been done and is fairly simple. A bonus will be our USB port while exposed to a point the Z1 case cutout isn't large enough so it should keep this port shut. Just wish I could find the case cheaper then about $30 + shipping.
I am also using this case and in my case (no pun intended...) it covers all four corners just fine. If I push on the corner in question I can make it sit in the position shown on you picture, but without manipulation it will sit as intended.
You can see how it sits on mine on:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/yb8nirtsb9gaffu/20150102_103907.jpg?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/rcza07b8w5krb59/20150102_094301.jpg?dl=0
So far I have dropped my Z3C in the ground twice and in both cases it survived without a scratch which I attribute to the Casemate Tough Case. Others have voiced their opinion over the fact that most of one side is not covered by the case. I think that it is highly unlikely that this will actually be a problem since the case protrudes further out over both corners which mean that the phone would have to drop on its side on an object (and not just a flat surface) to hit anything.
In the end I think case design for the Z series devices is a compromise between water protection and drop protection. If the case covered the magnetic charging connector (like the Z1C Casemate Tough Cover did) you would have to open the USB port cover every day which will compromise the water protection in the longer term. Personally I prefer the solutions Casemate made in the Z3C case compared to the Z1C Case.

@FSRBIKER it could be a viable solution altough I'm not very fond of fiddling with the case, they're not intended to be cutted and if something bad happens they will simply say "you should not have modified our case, it's not our problem".

@madsb thanks for the heads up, maybe mine has a defect, I'll try it again just to check but it's kind of strange that things like that happen with such a pricey product.
[EDIT] As a matter of fact, I did try to get it to fit like @madsb, and it seems that this time it looks like it fits, but I'm still wondering if it's a perfect match or not.
Either way, as soons as I receive the new one, I'll try it out and check which one I'll keep. I'll update my initial review with this new fact.
Have this case as well. Used it for 1 week. The bad fit on the corner is really bad. Dropped it on the screen, and the casing was pushed back on the top, leaving no lip to protecting the glass. Considering this to be a tough case, this is unaccepteble.

It confirm the fear I expressed when @madsb mentionned the fact that he was able to make it "fit", the loose top left corner can be problematic if not checked by the phone's owner.

Best clear TPU case?

Hi all,
I am looking for a clear or white TPU case for my white Z3C. I have attempted to read the cases thread but there are over 800 posts and a lot of them seem mainly concered with magnetic charging dock compatitbility, which I don't have.
Can anyone recommend me a case please? My criteria would be:
- Clear or white, not too bulky.
- Adds a little grip
- Good protection from accidental drops - I admit I am a little clumsy with my phone at times.
- has space to put a tempered glass screen protector on the front.
- ideally needs either usb OR magnetic cut-out but not really both as I will only use one or the other. And I will buy a magnetic cable, not a dock, so it won't need to fit in one.
I have looked at the Cruzerlife bugdroid. But I just don't like the droid on the back... I would much prefer completely plain.
Any advice?
I think Ringke fusion is the one you are looking for.
Take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/accessories/z3-compact-thread-t2879996 you will find many feedback for Ringke and other cases
Thanks, I will have a look at that one.
I saw the Orzly fusion - has anyone seen both the Ringke and the Orzly in real life to compare them?
I did try to read that thread, but there are over 800 posts and a huge amount of them are dedicated to whether the case will allow the phone to stilll be used in the magnetic charging dock, and not many seem to discuss how well the phone would be protected in case of a fall.

In any aspect it's better.
The actual housing of the Ringke is a lot more durable.
The Ringke feels very well in hand and offers very good grip.
I dropped the phone on purpose and nothing happened and I really wasn't afraid of doing it.
Some/most complain about the Ringke floppyness of the case at the left side that blocks the flaps, I think they did that on purpose and unless you keep the phone in the case most of the times there really is no problem.
I'm using the one from Nillkin very sleek not slippery at all fits perfectly on a magnetic dock and preserve the beauty of my Z3 although there's a little brand name but you rarely notice it price around 4-5$ not bad at all for the beauty and security it can give.
And oh the cut around the USB and memory card slot are quite long perfect for the z3 dual D6633 owners.

Toasted Z3 Compact Wooden Cover. Let them know you want this! Z3 has one.

Greetings! I've been a lurker on these forums for a while now. So here's my first post.
Toast makes gorgeous wooden covers that cover all of the phone (other companies just cover the back). They recently made one for the Z3: toastmade.com/products/xperia-z3.html
I Just love the look, how it provides more protection than simple skins, and adds little bulk. So, I sent an email and received this:
"Thank you for your interest in Toasting the Z3 Compact. If there’s demand, we will Toast it. I’ve got you down on the request list, so you’ll be notified of any updates. FYI, we are Toasting the Z3v next week, so hopefully the Compact will follow suit."
I would have expected a Z3c before a Z3V. Anyways, Shoot them an email on their website and be vocal that there is a demand for this. I currently use a Ringke Fusion and a DevilCase, but overtime I started to get annoyed with the added bulk. Let them know! Thanks

Yeah, there is no wood cover out there like this on the market. You can even upload a picture and they will carve in the design on the back....but of course it's for extra money.
You can get wood back covers from Balolo.De, but they're not as nice as these, nor do they come in black. I sent an email to cs, too. I really want one of these now ^.^

Yeah, I've seen those. The big difference with toast are the wooden bumpers. That's what sets it apart from the other ones. It would be a missed opportunity for them if they don't make one for the Z3 compact. Anyways, thanks for sending an email and I hope others do as well!

I already have an aluminum bumper from Devilcase, so it's less of a difference to me, but I see your point.
I got a response btw:
Thank you for your interest in Toasting the Z3 Compact. *We’re working on getting one in here for design, so if you happen to be in the States and wouldn’t mind parting with yours for a week, we’ll get you hooked up with some free Toast!
I’ll let you know as soon as they’re available.
Thanks for your patience, and hopefully you’ll hear back from me soon!

Seems like a matter of time then? I didn't offer to send my phone in, in case you were wondering

I got a similar email from them as well! They said that request list for the Z3c has blown up this past week...just need a model for designing I'm also using a DevilCase, but I'm not feeling the added thickness around the bezel anymore.

I'll try to get some more pictures after work tomorrow.
No, I don't work for them. I was reading through here and saw they needed a test phone so I offered to send mine in. I had no clue what to expect but I was very happy with how it turned out, and their customer service rep was great to talk to. I hope they don't mind me teasing on here before it is released!
god theyre so sexy!
Alright, here are a few more. I am not the best photographer, nor am I the best at keeping my hardware in tip top shape. The scratches on the screen have been there for a while.
I absolutely love that the red border shows through. I think this is a feature that Toast has made unique to the Z3 Compact, and I can honestly say that it makes all the difference in the world to me. I bought a red phone because I wanted a unique and colorful phone, this keeps it unique and colorful...but with wood on it. The toast cut out it something I specifically asked for and I am very pleased with the result.

That is damn sexy, and thank you so much for volunteering your Z3C! I can't wait for the official release! Do you mind if I make a thread about you and the Toast on the sonyxperia sub reddit? Also, was that applied on a naked Z3C or was it applied on top of a screen protector?

Go right ahead, and if you could provide a link for me that would be great. The phone was completely naked, no screen protector.

And thanks again for making it possible. This will make a lot of Z3C owners happy since our options are really limited in terms of cases and skins. The Toast Z3C is looking to be a best of both worlds.

You got on that very quick! I'm glad to help.
Does this provide protection from drops, etc, like a bumper, or is this just a beefed up skin?

It's like a middle ground between a case and a vinyl. Its either real wood veneer or bamboo. The parts are stuck on with some adhesive that leaves no residue.
"We laser cut our covers from real wood veneers and top-grain leather paired with a high quality 3M adhesive that adheres directly to your device. This allows you to add protection, grip and gorgeousness to your gadget while retaining its sleek profile (the average thickness of our covers is .9 mm: that’s 1/32nd of an inch!)."

To each his own.
My last phone broke in a TPU case with, what I thought was, good protection. I watched another guy's phone break in an otterbox, and iPhones bend in a number of cases. I came to the conclusion that the best protection for my devices was a sacrificial glass screen protector, back skin, and either a bumper or bumper skin. My reason for this combo is that the back and sides only really need scratch protection and the front can be cracked even with a case that provides a lip. The Z3C definitely benefits from anything that provides better traction on the back, too.
I know you didn't ask for the explanation, but I thought it would be worth mentioning for anyone who might be curious.
