My T705 is not a Snapdragon, it's a Exynos? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S, the SM-T705 model. It's a 16GB Titanium Bronze 4G LTE model, but when I was looking at the hardware specs, I noticed - it's not a Snapdragon. It's Exynos5420! I hit up Wikipedia and other well known sources and it says "The T705 uses Snapdragon 800 series chipset". That's false, at least for my device.
So, I'm thinking that Samsung wanted to use Snapdragon for their Tab S LTE devices, but ran into issues with various things and switched to their own chipset and modem implementation. I always thought Samsung used another chipset for 4G LTE devices, because they couldn't get it working with their own.
Is my T705 a newer version or something? I noticed in /proc/cpuinfo it says "Hardware: Universal5420 Revision: A" ... that would mean it's been through 10 hardware revisions (A in hex is 10 in decimal, AFAIK)

Samsung Exynos doesn't have LTE support. So they used to have Snapdragon with built in LTE, but now developed a solution for their Exynos with an accompanying chip for that.

I believe the ones with 32 GB internal memory are the snapdragon versions. I got a T805 16 GB and its Exynos, and I am disappointed because I cannot play 4k video like my Snapdragon Note 3.

The only snapdragon variants are the two US CDMA models--- SM-T807V and SM-T807P for Verizon and Sprint respectively.

Yes if you can connect to LTE then your cpu is snapdragon.

I would say incorrect here, because my device has LTE and its clocks match the Exynos WiFi version. So I am led to believe it was just a doll of the dice. It plays 10bit 720p MKVs fine, handy when i want to watch anime away from my desktop.

Mine is LTE capable with Exynos.

Incorrect

AT&T LTE TAB S is not Snapdragon either.

My T705 LTE is exynos as well (unfortunately). Samsung uses an Intel chip set to do both 2g,3g and 4g and disables the mobile support in the exynos. The Intel chip does not cope very well with 3g/4g handover.

SM T705 LTE snapdragon here...

Use an app called cpuz. It should tell you if you have snapdragon or not.

SM-T705M here, it's an Exynos that has 4G, now how cool is that?

My t705 is an exynos with sim card slot. However it has a problem. It never recognizes the sim. I've tried another Samsung based rom but it still does not work. Anyone experience this?

Is the sim a nano sim in an micro adapter maybe? I had this issue with mine. It's well fussy about alignment.

Just make sure the SIm is clean and you may want to check to ensure no loose onjects got into the SIM Card slot. If you are using custom firmware, make sure you use one for T705. Wifi only firmware doesnt have the drivers for the LTE chip.

Where did you buy it ? I mean with Snapdragon 2.3 ? Thanks, Mike

SM-T705 is Exynos edition with LTE support and capable of playback 4K video without single issue.

[Q] SM-T705 is Exynos?

I've been meaning to purchase this tablet so I've been looking at the LTE variant.
I looked it up online on my local Samsung site (Malaysia) and I found out it has the Exynos chipset but with LTE. Are there two LTE variants or it's an error on sites like GSMArena? I also went to a physical store and looked at the retail box, on the back it clearly says "1.9 GHz Quad core + 1.3 GHz Quad core". The model number is SM-T705 which has the Snapdragon chipset according to most sites I go to.
EDIT: I went on the Samsung UK site and even the 4G variant sold there has the Exynos chip.

The T705 is an Exynos 5 SoC with Intel LTE Modem.
There is not currently a Qualcomm based Tab S model on the market, and it's unlikely that a Snapdragon version will be released.
Thanks.
I just bought it, in Bronze.

As far as my understanding goes, all S models are Exynos for now.
Pro line is Snapdragon.
I think only certain US Carriers use the Snapdragon chip Tab S LTE.
this chipset exynos 5420 is 3g in general no 4g lte .this is new 5420 with lte included or lte has dedicated chipset ?
becuase my note 3 n900 exynos 5420 support only 3g freq. but 5420 in this tablet support 4g let
if use another chipset just for lte power consumption is too much more than 3g
as i know, the tab S model use intel chip to support 4g
I have not (yet) read on any Samsung site of any Tab S using Snapdragon. To avoid any future confusion, I suggest to forget the other sites, and go straight to the source themselves (Samsung) .....

Maybe they are oblivious to it and need to be informed. You could contact them and ask.
Gsmarena is one of these sites
The mods know about the Snapdragon issue. Because Snapdragon is offered in some limited markets they say it should remain. I don't agree as the vast majority of these devices are Exynos. It is misleading but they won't change it.

I could only suggest that they need to " amend " the description, not " omit ". Just add Exynos to it, that's all. Or go the " hard " way and have separate forums same as other devices .... End of confusion
I thought AT&T were getting the snapdragon LTE models. May be wrong though.

I wish there was a US model that had a snapdragon, I've been looking all over for one to no avail.

Samsung.com doesn't list any Qualcomm specs for the T700/T705/T800, says they're all Exynos™ 5 Octa (1.9Ghz Quadcore + 1.3 Ghz Quadcore).
The only possible Tab S with a Snapdragon is the T805.
Does anybody on this forum have a Snapdragon Tab S?

I just ordered the Sprint variant of the Tab S 10.5 (SPHT807TAB) yesterday, and it uses the Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974). Unsure if the other carriers have/will release it.

So the T807 is the Snapdragon model.
How's the performance?

It shipped out today, so I most likely won't know until Monday or Tuesday. But I'd imagine the performance will be just like my Note 3 since it's the same SoC and memory.

Yes, please keep us informed.
I picked up the WIFI version a few days ago after seeing it posted here that BB was discounting the 32GB. I am not noticing any significant lags other than within certain apps that I have also noticed it my Note 8. I would be torn over which to choose, the Snapdragon/Sprint or the 32GB version.
Incidentally, if you chose the the monthly option @ $27 (total $650) , did it also include the cellular plan for 2 years or was that additional? (Update:Never mind, found the answer on the Sprint website)
My Tab S from sprint will be here shortly. I will post back about its performance. I am trying to find out if there is a root method that works for this model.

So far, even with the crap-bloatware Samsung/Sprint like to pile on, and the memory-monster-TouchWiz; this tablet is performing quite well. The Snapdragon definitely makes up for all of the aforementioned annoyances. Certainly more responsive and 'snappy' than the Exynos variant that I've messed around with. I can't wait to see how fast this is going to be running once we have root and custom kernels.
I do find it odd that they went back to the old USB 2.0 port vs the duel 3.0 port though; I get great charge times with my Note 3 using that.

[q] galaxy tab s 8.4 lte cpu

HI,
I purchased a galaxy tab S 8.4 with LTE capabilities.
upon checking my CPU, all benchmarking tools pointed out that my CPU is a samsung exynos 5420 1.9ghz!
if I am not mistaken, this is the CPU of the WIFI only version.
I am suppose to get a Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHZ with my LTE version.
can anyone clarify on this? should I return it to the store and have them replace my unit with an appropriate specification?
thanks!

This had been answered many times. ...
I'll answer again. Your eyes don't lie.
At the moment, all international SGT-S 8.4 and 10.5 WIFI and LTE devices use the same Exynos processor + Mali GPU.
I have not yet seen any official Samsung website stating otherwise.
There may be some USA "carrier variant" using Snapdragon + Adreno though, but not seen any user post confirming device in hand.

[Q] CPU question

Hello, I just bought a Tab S 10.5 LTE version. I found out only now that the CPU varies between models, so now I wonder, will mine come with a Snapdragon or an Exynos?
It wasn't written on the description.
Use an app called cpuz to find out what chipset you have and everything about your device.
Yeah I will. But the thing is it will arrive in 3-4 days so the doubt is strong
I was just wondering whether 100% of LTE versions have the snapdragon.

wrong, here in Sweden both WiFi and LTE uses Exynos 5420, with LTE support thanks to the Intel LTE chip.

From what I've read the CDMA US carriers (vzw + Sprint) have snapdragons, the others have exynos.

FM Radio - Does it have it?

I'm thinking about buying the Dubai, dual sim version of this phone. Does it have FM radio in it? My research suggests that it does not. However, I know many phones have it but it's not enabled. I'm hoping that might be the case with this phone..
Does the Dubai variant have exynos or snapdragon? I believe it is only an option with snapdragon. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

What is the price of the dual version in Dubai
Sent from my XT1562 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Snapdragon 820 all ships with fm radio in dormant mode. It all depends on your chipset. I wager Dubai getting the exynos version. Preorder price is USD130. Not sure on the RRP.

Dubai version is exynos. The price is AED3000. I'm having a hard time finding somewhere that will ship internationally though.

All s6/s6 edge were exynos, and for sure they have fm radio (at least Sprint version).
Can anyone that has exynos version check it?

Only snapdragon versions have proven to feature fm radio. Exynos 8890 versions on Note 7 does not have them. Samsung did not build an FM radio onto the chip.
Therefore right now only US and Canada phones are able to use FM radio IF their carriers allow.

no it does not..s5, s6, s7 none of them didnt have it
