[Q] Fire Phone; Codename: Ursa - Amazon Fire Phone

I am wondering if all the Fire Phones have the same output for the command:
sudo fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Click to collapse
When I run this, I get the output:
product: URSA
finished. total time: 0.019s
Click to collapse
If someone from a different region (wie Deutchland, or the UK) could compare their output with mine, that'd be great. And if you happen to NOT get "product: URSA", I'd be ever so grateful if you could upload a copy of your bootloader for examination. :fingers-crossed: Na und mein Deutsch ist okej fuer ein Amerikan. So PM me if you have anymore information on the topic!

I have got a german fire phone with fire os 3.6.2. I'd like to contribute on this but i can't get fastboot to recognize my device.
First of all details on my setup:
- Windows 8.1 64bit
- Fire Phone 32gb (not rooted: factory default)
- Adb drivers downloaded with the sdk manager (followed the guide here on xda)
Steps accomplished:
- Connection with Fire Phone via adb - can browse the phones filesystem
- rebooted to bootloader via adb command "adb reboot bootloader" (then i should be in fastboot mode right?)
Problems:
- fastboot does not recognize the phone when booted in fire os, is it the normal behavior?
- fastboot, adb not working when in bootloader, or recovery sideload mode
- when in recovery sideload or bootloader my Windows device manager neither shows the android device, nor an unrecognized device for which no drivers were found
If you can guide me through the setup for fastboot i can post you my product strings and can try to copy the bootloader for you

You can use my guide for look and feel... To my mind your windows don't use the correct driver... You need to reboot and deactivate only signed drivers. Then you can choose the correct one and it should work

Which guide are you referring to? Used the sticky by SafinWasi.
Now i got it so far that a device called fastboot without a driver is shown in device manager while the fire phone is connected and staying in bootloader. But trying the drivers out of the sdk (downloaded the fire ones) the system always says that I need drivers for 64bit even booted my system allowing unsigned drivers.
I think I will try to use my hackintosh or a linux live distro next.
EDIT:
got it working with my hackintosh:
ran:
sudo fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Click to collapse
my output is the same one
product: URSA
finished. total time: 0.019s
Click to collapse
If it helps you and can be done without rooting I can still try to get a copy of my bootloader if you tell me how to get it. I'll try to find out via google now, but i don't know if i'll succeed

Hmm....it seems that Amazon has changed the way it uses build props for fastboot variables. At first I thought it was Kodiak but now I see it's Ursa. Now I gotta rename ALL my device specific files...

[Q] Please don't hate me... fastboot "brick" on VM

So, I know not supposed to post questions that are lame, but I can't seem to figure this out. I will state my specs/situation:
I am stuck on the first step of installing FFF on my first Kindle Fire 1st gen.
I am on a Macbook Pro Retina 15" mid-2012 (USB3.0/2.0 mix ports only)
I am using KFU on a Win8 64-bit Virtual Machine (VMWare latest version)
The kindle fire is in fastboot mode (I'm pretty sure, at least).
It is stuck on the stock Kindle fire boot-up logo.
install_Drivers was run successfully after enabling unsigned driver installs.
Run.bat was executed
selected Option 5 first, to install FFF
FFF was downloaded by KFU, the Fire rebooted and then got stuck.
As it rebooted, I had forgotten to automatically have my Fire connect to the Virtual Machine, so VMWare prompted my with what system I wanted the fire connected to. I'm not sure if that delay has something to do with the stall and failure of KFU to install FFF or get out of fastboot.
KFU doesn't recognize the Kindle ("waiting for device" message; ADB: Offline; Boot Status:Unknown).
In my "other devices" on Windows Device Manager I see "Base System Device" and "Unknown Device"
My questions are:
1. How do I go about getting it out of fastboot mode even though KFU can't see the device.
2. What was I doing wrong in the first place?
Before you tell me:
I have read through the Guide
I have read through and searched much of the KFU dev thread
I have searched the forums, without a clear solution.
Thank you very much for your help!!!

EDIT: I guess I should specify, I do NOT have a fastboot factory cable. Do I need one?
Okay since you can use windows on a vm start there. Shift+right click on the tools folder inside KFU select open command window here, plug in the kindle, type the first command hit enter, type the second command hit enter if all goes well it should reboot normally. Same concept on a mac whatever directory adb and fastboot are in open a terminal, same commands same method. Good luck
Edit: in fact you can just copy paste my commands then you know you got it right. Dunno about the cable yet see if the commands work.

Did the first one, but still says "waiting for device" and nothing is happening. :/ (EDIT: for clarity's sake, nothing happening means its still stuck on the kindle fire white/orange stock boot logo)
btw, thank you for your help.
Hold the power button to turn the device off. Enter the command, and turn the device on when you see "waiting for device".

still says "waiting for device" in the terminal.
also, windows still comes up with "usb unrecognized" message at the bottom right of my screen.

Okay rerun the driver.bat packaged with kfu then plug the device in see if it comes up in device manager.

Still doesn't show up. (It also occasionally crashes my mac system when I plug the kindle in now :/ )
If I get a factory cable, will that likely solve this easily?
Well I'm not a Mac person but it's far better with drivers than Windows ever will be maybe google how to setup and and fastboot on a Mac and go from there. Download install breakdroid that should be accompanied with the drivers.

Got it! Using Breakdroid, I was able to capture the Kindle as it powered on. I believe my main problem was that there was a significant enough delay in connecting the Kindle via USB to the Windows Virtual Machine, that the ADB couldn't access it in time to capture it. Or whatever.
Solution: I used BreakDroid on my Mac. Turned the kindle off, then back on while Breakdroid was waiting for my device to perform Step 1 on Breakdroid's Kindle Tools. Then it immediately captured the Kindle when I powered it on. Went through the steps on Breakdroid, and it's working with bootloader and recovery
Works great! Have all my stuff back. And...it's rooted
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP, GUYS!
EDIT: Now how do I install Google Play?

[Q] fastboot drivers

I'm a need of help here. I've been searching around the web and here to find the answer that for some reason I can't find. When I connect Kindle Fire 2 using a fastboot cable the device that comes up in Device Manager is otter2-prod-04. I've tried to install drivers manually using "Have a Disk" method but adb would not communicate with device (adb devices doesn't return a value). I don't know if the android_winusb.inf has to be edited (it only seems to be the case with first gen kindle) but I haven't found any guides that tell you to do it for Kindle Fire 2. Any help or proper direction is appreciated.

Have you ran a fastboot cmd? ADB and fastboot are totally separate from one another. Try running: fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
That will give you the product id while in fastboot.

Hmm that did help. I should make a noob friendly guide because all of these guides are so vague when it comes to fastboot.
fast boot commands not functioning, adb works fine

Then you have a driver issue. Get the device into fastboot and with it plugged in go to your device manager and right click the device that shows up(it will probably have a yellow triangle next to it. Then select update driver, then choose "browse my computer for device software", lastly choose "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". Since you have adb working then you should have one that says "adb composite interface" or something like that. Once you install the driver you should be ok.

Found those steps. but that driver was already installed and said it was functioning. I risked it and attempted the root and install of jellybean without the fastboot command showing devices. apparently it works. my Kindle fire 2 is running cyanogen mod without issue now.

Amazon KF2 (v.10.4.3 & v10.4.6) - Install CyanogenMod

First - sorry for my English. Last monday i received my KF2 and when I could not find the instructions on this forum for version 10.4.3 - i decided to try it myself.
Introducing: Kindle Fire 2 (v10.4.3 & v10.4.6 already tested) installing CyanogenMod
** YOU SHOULD HAVE A WORKING NORMAL (NOT FASTBOOT) CABLE + ADB DRIVERS/ACCESS ON YOUR PC. **
*** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! WHILE I TRY MY BEST TO PROVIDE WORKING KERNELS/ROMS, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF THIS SOFTWARE OR ANYTHING I'VE WORKED ON SUDDENLY FRIES YOUR DEVICE. ***
*** READ CAREFULLY BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ***
*** Kindle Fire 1st-gen ROMs/KERNELS are *NOT* compatible with the Kindle Fire 2. Please only flash ROMs/KERNELS that are made for the Kindle Fire 2. ***
** IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, RE-READ THROUGH THE THREAD FOR ANSWERS. WHEN YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY SURE NO ONE HAS ASKED YOUR QUESTION, GO AHEAD AND RE-READ THE THREAD AGAIN AND USE THE SEARCH FEATURE. THEN POST YOUR QUESTION IF YOU STILL CAN'T FIND THE ANSWER **
INITIAL SETUP INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1. Install ADB Drivers for Kindle HD and enable ADB on tablet Settings->Security->Enable ADB->On
Check ADB:
Code:
C:\> adb devices
List of devices attached
0123456789ABCDEF device
If you do NOT see this, then make sure you have the SDK installed correctly and you have the right setup for ADB on your PC before proceeding.
STEP 2. Backup your stock partitions to your own HD for later if you need disaster recovery:
Code:
adb pull /dev/block/mmcblk0boot0
adb pull /dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/boot
adb pull /dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/recovery
adb pull /dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/system # This will take a few minutes
Take those files and put them somewhere safe.
STEP 3. Getting root
Just follow this threat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075959 -> everything working fine
STEP 4. Downgrade your bootloader
Download the older 10.2.4 bootloader file and flash to your device via fastboot:
http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/otter2/otter2-u-boot-prod-10.2.4.bin
md5sum 5b03a7b428325de8d360ec201a745498
(You SHOULD check this before using fastboot -- downloads CAN be corrupted)
Open cmd and promt:
Code:
adb shell su -c "reboot bootloader"
Your Kindle should reboot in fastboot mode, and now flash bootloader:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader otter2-u-boot-prod-10.2.4.bin
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
STEP 5. Install TWRP
First, download CM and GAPPS and copy it to SDCARD:
CM-10.1 for the Kindle Fire 2 (choose the latest version from):
http://www.get.cm/?device=otter2
Google Apps from: http://goo.im/gapps (choose the top rom CM10.1 version)
1. Copy com.powerpoint45.FMKilo-2.apk to the tablet (you can get this apk from here http://d-h.st/n7L)
2. Enable on Kindle: Device -> Allow Installation of Applications
3. Use file browser (i recomended to use ES Explorer) to install apk.
4. Run Tweezermod Installer and answer on all question about Super User -> "Allow"
** If everything was done correctly you will at this point see the bootmenu with a BLUE logo during the reboot. **
In this time your kindle can not boot, u'll see BLUE logo, then ORANGE and then device restarted again. Don't worry - it's ok
STEP 6. Install CyanogenMod
TO ENTER RECOVERY:
During the blue logo screen press the power button to cycle through options and select "Recovery" to enter TWRP.
Once in TWRP you can Install" the CM-10.1 by selecting "Install" and then browsing the device and selecting it, then "Add Zip" and select the Gapps .zip as well.
Use the slider to start the install.
Dont forget to do FULL WIPE - cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system.
Enjoy
Tested on my Kindle Fire 2 v10.4.3 & v10.4.6
7" KF HD 2, 10.4.6
This tutorial worked perfectly, up until the end, step 6.
I'm new to Kindle, but not Android. I got into TWRP prior to downloading CM10.2 and Gapps. And when i try to mount as USB, and this line shows in the log:
"Unable to locate volume information for USB storage mode"
Googling didn't help much with investigating that error. ADB sideload doesn't seem to work.
I don't know what to do from here.

Check STEP 1 to check ADB. If it not working check this manual https:// developer.amazon.com/sdk/fire/connect-adb.html
When ADB start working - copy CM and GAPPS to kindle:
Promt in CMD:
Code:
adb push /path/to/filename /sdcard/download/filename
I'm also on Win7 x64.
When it is on ADB Sideload, I see in my Device manager Amazon Kindle Fire2, but it appears to not be loading the drivers correctly.
ADB Devices are not showing any attached devices. Ideas?
---------- Post added at 09:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:29 AM ----------
Also in my Device Manager, Portable Devices, it shows F: but there's no F: in my windows explorer.
I found instructions via terminal emulator to get it rebooted into fastboot, in hopes of flashing CM 10.2 via fastboot.
Looking up the fastboot syntax for flashing a new rom, I've always used recovery on my other devices, but i don't have that option now.

ADB Sideload - good idea. Try this manual:
1. Set the device into ADB sideload mode. In TWRP you do this by going to Advanced then ADB Sideload.
2. From the command line on PC, type adb sideload /path/to/rom.zip
The file will be copied to your device to whatever the current storage location is that you have selected in the mount page. It will always be placed in the root of that storage location and named sideload.zip (e.g. /sdcard/sideload.zip) and it will automatically delete / overwrite any existing sideload.zip you may have on your device. As soon as the file is copied to your device, it will automatically be installed. When the install is finished you will be presented with a reboot system button so that you can reboot to test your zip.
Note that sideload mode is a separate ADB mode. While in sideload mode, regular ADB commands will not work. Once the zip has been copied to the device and the install starts (or if you hit the cancel button) regular ADB mode will resume.
My mistake in manual. Better way - copy rom file to sdcard before STEP 5.
I'm still unable to use adb sideload, reports "device not found". I have the usb drivers installed, your tutorial is the only one I have used, I can't use TWRP at all.
It works, but USB drive mounting doesn't work, ADB sideload doesn't seem to work. No errors in the log, but ADB reports device not found.
I don't know what to do from here. It's nothing like 4EXT or CWM.
Ok so I have got it in fastboot by going to Advanced->Terminal, idme bootmode 4
Once in fastboot , fastboot -i 0x1949 devices returned a device number
I flashed CM10.2 using "fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system CM102.zip
Then I ran fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 1
Then rebooted, doesn't load ROM, got back into TWRP, changed bootmode back to 1, reboot, says I have no OS.
That's my current status. Seems others have been at this point before, still workin on this.
Ok you can give up on thinking now, I've bricked it. No signs of life.
I flashed the 7.23 bootloader and TWRP 2.6 from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848
via fastboot, and now it's done for.
Found a rooted one on craigslist for $120 to replace this one for my father in law.
I've rooted a good few other Android devices, but never a tablet, first try on a KFHD2.
I give up on Kindle's.

Don't trash the old one after u get the new one, we have a viable method now to unbrick a hard bricked kindle. The person behind the fix is working on a more user friendly version of the device that doesn't require soldering. Check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391047

Assuming you have a Kindle Fire 2nd Generation, it's "hard-bricked."
Read the FAQ if you haven't already, specifically Q14 (although, read them all). Then, I would see if you can get Amazon to send you a replacement.
If they won't do that, take a look at this thread and this thread by me. As of now, I've succeeded in returning a hard-bricked KF2 to soft-bricked, but working out some bugs in order to return it to fully functional after that.

HI
I enter fastboot mode as shown in the tutorial
"" "" Adb shell su-c "reboot bootloader" "" "" "
I ask for superuser permissions, accept and restart in fastboot mode
Appear a black screen with fastboot logo in red, and a traffic light with flashing green light.
But I can not move from there ....

Kindle Fire HD 8.9 stuck in red screen

I attempted to use KFFaide to install twrp but the program installed the Kindle fire 2nd gen os on it. Please help.
You bricked it. You have to get the device into fast boot to flash correct files
Sent from my Kindle Fire HD 7 running PAC-man
This is going to be harder to fix from windows rather than linux, open a command prompt and cd into the kindle fire first aid directory, run
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
once you run this it should say waiting for device, now plug the kindle in while it is off, if it continues to say waiting for device and not go into fastboot, you are going to have to download the drivers in my signature and extract them somewhere, then open the device manager, plug the kindle in again while its off, you should briefly see a jem device pop up, right click it hit update driver, point it to where you extracted my drivers, if you can get them to install then run the command again while the device is off and unplugged and plug it in while its off, it should go into fastboot and you can reflash the bootloader and such from there.
My kindle still dont go the fastboot

Please Help me this case,

Hmm, I'm mobile so tapatalk isn't letting me grab the YouTube link. This is why windows isn't fun, this works a bit better from Linux like I was mentioning in that old post, still sounds like its not seeing the drivers installed for the brief fastboot appearance it makes on powerup. If you think the drivers are good I suggest trying a Ubuntu live CD, opening a terminal and running a
Code:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-fastboot
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Same procedure as before, plugin while off after running that command.
If the first command gives you an error you may have to enable the other repositories in the settings of Ubuntu under the software section. My instructions may be a bit vague but my laptops stuck in the other room for the night downloading updates or I would boot into Linux for better instructions.
next step in Linux

I did something similar and bricked my kindle. Here's what worked for me.
1) In windows I downloaded the KFHD System.img Recovery Tool (KFHD_SRTv2.1- 8.1.4) found here.
2) I extracted the zip file to a separate directory named KFHD_SRT_v2.1.
3) I turned off my kindle.
4) I opened a cmd prompt and navigated to the KFHD_SRT_v2.1 directory created in step 2.
5) I ran the SR Tool.bat file.
6) I selected option 1 for Enable Fastboot.
7) I answered n to the question "Is your device turned on?"
The tool then displayed the following:
Please connect your device to the computer
< waiting for device >
8) I plugged a normal micro USB cable into the kindle and then into the windows PC. The kindle turned itself on and after a few seconds the kindle was in fastboot mode.
9) I downloaded these three files from links found here and copied them to the KFHD_SRT_v2.1 directory created in step 2.:
kfhd8-twrp-2.7.0.0-recovery.img
kfhd8-freedom-boot-8.4.6.img
kfhd8-u-boot-prod-8.1.4.bin
10) I returned to the cmd prompt and did the following:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader kfhd8-u-boot-prod-8.1.4.bin
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot kfhd8-freedom-boot-8.4.6.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery kfhd8-twrp-2.7.0.0-recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
11) The kindle rebooted into the twrp recovery and I was able to install the CyanogenMod 11.0 ROM found here.
I hope this helps you too!

[Q] Emm... brik! White kindle logo no adb, no fastboot...

Hi,
I've wrote some days ago this post
Hi there!! First of all thanks for the explanation! I've try to understand in wich position is my KF.... but nothing...
A little bit of history:
KF HXD 8,9
I've rooted the KF, after that I've install Safestrap Recovery APK and successfully flash/install 2 different rom into 2 different rom slot not in the stock rom(backed up in the device).
Great! I've tested both and chose one running well. I've chose to delete one and give to the one more space... 7GB.
Well after the installation I've reboot the device........ white fix logo (all white) on screen.... after some reboot pushing the power button (I don't how) it show a screen where I can chose restore device or reboot. I've restored the device to the default factory...
Well now I really don't know what can I do. The command adb devices doesn't recognize any device. Fastboot: ./fastboot getvar product is waiting for the device...
p.s. Only one positive thing is when I plug the KF with the usb in my MAC start Android Transfer Tool.
Any help or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.
sorry for the bad english

Plase can you suggest me the right way?
Now I'm using an ubuntu 12.04 as pc, there are some tool or script that can I run into ubuntu?
Thanks.
You should be able to get it into fastboot.
Make sure the tablet is off then run the command.
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Then turn it back on

I've run the fastboot command from the platform-tools folder into the Android sdk and...
still < waiting for device >
I think it might be a driver issue. If you open the driver manager does something flash on the screen when the tablet turns on?
