[Q] Unknown Baseband Custom ROM - Samsung Galaxy Fame

Hi my dear friends, I have flashed a custom ROM on my Galaxy Fame GT-S6810p.
Everything is right except the SIM not detected problem.
In the about phone option, there is no IMEI and Unknown Baseband.
I searched for the solution on the internet but failed. When I install backup of stock ROM via CWM, everything works right.
I restore EFS partition from stock=unsuccess
I restore Modem partition from stock=unsuccess
I restore RIL files from stock ROM=unsuccess
I restore kernel from stock ROM=unsuccess
In the custom ROM zip, in the update script file, there is a script that says...
>mount mmcblk0p26 as a data partition
>extract data folder from the ROM zip and copy it to data partition
My question is this that there is no mmcblk0p26 partition that is used as a data partition!
Why then this update script for?
There is no data folder in the ROM zip!
Why then this update script for?
Custom ROM also flahed a custom kernel, is this a problem?
What is the problem that ROM Radio is not working?
Also there is no modem.bin file in the ROM zip!
How can I extract this from ROM zip?

hmm every device have diffrent kernel path ,in SG fame i think is on mmcblk0p26
but if you want to go back to stock,,just use odin ,and download the firmware from sammobile.com ,,and if you don't know the step ,,just follow the insturction on the sammobile when you go to the download page,,and in sammobile have odin too ,,try it

Don't make any further change.. Rom isn't supposed to have data folder in it, so doesn't matter if it is or not mmcblk0p26.. In sg Fame data partition is 12 afaik.. Anyway, flash stock fw from http://sammobile.com/firmwares , according to your device/country and the phone will be good as new..
Next time try to flash something from here on xda, where people test the roms and give their feedback... Cheers!

[Q] Many questions (CWM, ROMs)

Hi,
I'm new here and I'd like to install a new ROM on my Gio but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before trying something and bricking my phone.
ClockWorkMod
I installed CWM v5.2.0.6 (followed the instructions here). Is this ok, or do I need to install v5.0.2.7? And if I do need a newer version, is there a way to get an update or do I have to follow the same steps as before?
1.Download the CWM 5.0 v2 and copy to the Root (not in any folder) of your SD card
2. Put your phone in recovery Mode(press: Home button + Power button toghether)
3. In recovery mode, select the downloaded file from SD-card(Use Volume keys to navigate and home button for enter).
4. Search for the root gb updated.zip file on your SD-card
5. Run the update
6. Reboot
Click to collapse
I tried creating a backup with the CWM version I have, but I get this error: "Can't mount /system".
CWM does create a folder in sdcard/ clockworkmod/ backup/ date, but it only contains the following files:
recovery.img and boot.img.
However, this post says I should actually have more files in the backup folder:
.android_secure.vfat.tar ,boot.img , cache.ext4.tar , data.ext4.tar , nandroid.md5 , recovery.img, system.ext4.tar.
Is this because of my CWM version? Or maybe because I still have the operating system that came with my device (+updates)?
What I really want to know is: can I rely on this backup, will it work?
ROMs
I want to install CM10.1.5 from here, but I have many questions and I don't really know where to look for answers. (Sorry, I really am a complete noob.)
What's the difference between androidarmv6 jenkins build and mardon build? And what's the difference between the 3 versions? Can I just install the Version with CM-Superuser and not worry about it?
Should the updates be installed via CWM - apply update from SDcard? What about the additions - CWM --> install zip from SDcard?
How can I install extras if they are "not CWM flashable"?
What happens to my apps when I install a new ROM? Do I have to install them all again? Is all data lost? Or will they all be restored from my google account and the SD card or something like that?
Finally, how can I use the ext2 partition in my SDcard to install apps? Is this function included in the ROM? Or do I need to install something else? a2sd darktremor? If yes, how (I find the instructions here confusing and overwhelming, and the post is old, so probably outdated)? Or should I use the "Link2SD" addition to the ROM?
I'm sorry for asking so much, but I'm feeling kind of lost.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone?
I've continued trying to figure things out when I have time. I'll post what I find in this thread, in case someone else comes here looking for answers to similar doubts/problems.
In trying to understand what's going on with ClockWorkMod Recovery, I found this very useful link:
wwwDOTtechbiiDOTcom / cwm-recovery-cant-mount-system-error-solution-how-to/
(sorry for the DOTs and spaces, can't post outside links yet)
CWM Recovery – Can’t Mount System Error Solution [How To]
(...)
The error is an expected one and happens generally when you are trying to backup a stock ROM using the clock work mod recovery. Please, note that you can’t do a completed nandroid backup of a stock firmwares. So, just install any custom ROM and then you can backup and restore anytime.

If I understood correctly, the best (only?) way to return to stock ROM is to install Odin or similar firmware flashing tool and to get the stock firmware from sites like sammobile.com and sampro.pl. However, it also says that not all firmwares might be available and I haven't looked more into it all of this yet.
Did you root your phone yet?
That should solve the problem from the can't mount system, data, etc
If you need more information, then look at this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397120

Yes, I used the instructions there to root my phone and install CWM (v5.0.2.6), but that thread is 2 years old, so I'm afraid it won't be up to date in relation to certain things. For example, I did create an ext2 partition on my SD card using those instructions, but I found an easier way to move apps from my phone to the SDcard (using the link2SD app, available on Google Play). The information about ROMs is also not up to date.
If you want to install a custom rom just
-wipe data factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-advance>wipe dalvik cache
-install zip from sdcard
-reboot
NOTE: the zip is the rom

Thank you.
My main concern at the moment is how to restore my original ROM if something should go wrong, though. I've found some interesting information in this thread but I've been busy this week and I'll need to go back and read it all with more attention before I try something.
Download ODIN 4.42 and GIO ops and a sotckrom MD5 file then put it into the odin and put your phone into recovery mdoe and plug it into your computer. Then click start
you have to put your phone in downloadmode to flash with odin as far as i know,but i have an other question;
can you use heimdall with the samsung galaxy gio
I am trying to flash a new recovery on my samsung galaxy gio with ODIN after it is bricked flashing tass- 6.0.4.5.zip(this cwm seems for the mini!!!) is this possible and if so,which one can?and how to do that...
thanks in advance
Yes it is possible and you need ODIN 4.42, GiPS and a Stock Rom extracted out of the zip.
Here is a video to help you because I am too lazy to explain

[Backups] [Radios] [SS/DS] Backups of stock firmware and Radios for CWM Recovery

In this backups integrated root and recovery (SuperSU 1.93 and swipe CWM 6.0.4.7 from CM11)
There no any user data (your will be deleted) – after boot appears setup wizard. Internal storage keeps untouched.
ROM's can be installed on Single / Dual versions in any combinations.
Requirements
– unlocked bootloader
– installed CWM recovery (or persistent CWM for custom ROM's, flash from TWRP)
Important information about internal storage
4.1.2 keep files in /data/media
4.2.2 / 4.3 keep files in /data/media/0
So to have access to them move files in correspondent folder using root-filemanager.
Important information about baseband
– Every stock firmware works only with own radio version
– Basebands compatible with both versions of Xperia M: C1904/C1905 and C2004/C2005
– CyanogenMod 11 / 12 / 13 requires radio from 4.3 (new). Read more
– Older versions and non-updated custom roms based on it requires radio from 4.1.2 Single
Without appropriate radio will be no mobile network, GPS and may appears lags.
Radio normally flashed with ftf-file via flashtool or via OTA-update.
I invented to try flash radio dump via recovery as this implemented here
Thanks for testing and info @FindYanot and @PecanCM – it's worked.
So now you can easily switch between any stock firmwares without PC: just restore backup and radio.
Less brick risks as when flashing by other ways.
And no wiping internal storage like while flashing FTF.
All archives was tested before uploading and added recovery information.
So if you get error while extracting files – redownload archive. Problem on your side.
If you extracting archive on phone use ZArchiver (RootExplorer gives error).
If you got error "Can't mount /data!", then select mounts and storage > format /data and /data/media (/sdcard)
Warning, this will wipe internal storage.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
How-to
In short words: extract needed backup on sdcard, restore it without any wipes, flash appropriate radio.
1. Download needed backup
2. Extract from archive folder clockworkmod on external sdcard with replacing any files. There must be free at least 1 Gb
3. Download and copy on sdcard ZIP with appropriate radio version
4. Power off phone
5. Power on phone and when LED will be purple press once "Volume +" button
6. Create backup of current ROM by selecting backup and restore > backup to /storage/sdcard1. On sdcard must be free at least 1.5 Gb
7. Select backup and restore > restore from /storage/sdcard1
8. Select item with stock backup (stock_*) and confirm by selecting Yes
9. If ask Continue anyways? select Yes
10. After end of restore select Go Back > install zip > choose zip from /storage/sdcard1
11. Find ZIP with radio and confirm flashing by selecting Yes
12. After end of flashing Go Back > reboot system now
13. On question answer No
14. After a couple minutes of loading you have clean stock firmware with root and recovery
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Radios to flash via recovery

First try with dedicated radio ZIP.
If it not helps then use flashtool.
After selecting ftf-file there untick all except radio.
Thanks Bono for the files,
One question:
It doesnt matter using same radio despite C1904/1905 or C2004/2005 model differences? They work on different HSDPA frequencies, thats why I'm asking.

Because people flashed FTF-file (there radio too) for C1904 on C1905 and have network.

[Q] Is it possible to wipe system partition before installing a ROM

This is regarding a recently bought tablet Note 8. The current usage of /system partition is at above 75%. I have been trying to wipe/delete all system data in an attempt to have a 'fresh' OS once I install new stock ROM. In CWM recovery, I have even tried to format system partition (in addition to normal data reset, cache wipe and delvek cache wipe).
I installed the new stock ROM 4.4.2 in Download mode. Afterwards I checked and my system partition was still above 75% full. I do understand that system partition is normally read only. I am trying to work out if there is there any way where I can flash the stock ROM whilst completely removing the current system files.
Please offer any guidance or advice regarding this matter. Thanks!
Possible? Yes. Necessary? No.
The installation script for a ROM will almost always format the system partition before setting it up with the new ROM files, unless the developer is doing some special testing and you would know if that is the case.
ramjet73
Yes I think most custom ROMs would wipe system partition too. Though I want to install the stock ROM of Android 4.4.2. I have flashed the ROM about four times now, everytime trying different settings such as wipe/format system drive.
But I always end up with /system drive same size as before.
Thanks for the reply ramjet73.

Depending on how you flash the stock ROM, Odin will flash a .img file to the system partition and completely replace its contents or an updater-script in a stock ROM zip file will format it and then copy all the included /system files to the empty partition.
In either case you cannot control what goes into the initial configuration of the system partition, only delete things that you don't need after it is flashed, unless you flash from a stock ROM zip file and delete items from that before you flash it.
There are scripting tools that can help with ROM "slimming" but I don't know if any are available for the Note 8.0 or not.

How to restore EFS backup in IMG file format?

Hi, I just flashed AICP and found that the VoLTE is missing. I've an EFS partition backup taken with TWRP earlier. But that file is an IMG file. When I try to restore that IMG file using TWRP it asks for the correct partition to restore. All I can see are:
Boot
Recovery
System image
Vendor image
Firmware (image)
Splash
Could someone please say to which partition should I restore it?

Nope, the file name is efs_backup.img . How to restore it?
Could someone please help? I found tutorials only to backup EFS partition using TWRP. Didn't find any for restoration. At least someone please post the link to it? Googling didn't give any results.
I've already asked this on XDA before, but no one replied me. Here's the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...te-problems-custom-roms-t3744291/post77703907
If the EFS in IMG file format can't be restored then what's the point of backing up the EFS using TWRP? I always QPST the ZUI ROM whenever I switch to a different ROM. This time I don't have my PC with me, that's why I'm asking this. If we can't restore this using TWRP then at least please confirm it. Then I will wait until I get my PC.

Efs Backup created through twrp contains .win format and you can recover only if it's in that format. Or if you are damn sure that you have created backup through twrp then find that version of twrp and then try to restore.
You dont have to flash the file, you have to restore it using twrp
Make a backup of your current efs through twrp
You will find it in the internal memory in twrp folder
Go into the folder, keep going in till you find the img file of your current backup, replace it with the previous backup.
Then boot into twrp md go into restore, you will find the option to restore the efs partition
