[MAGURO] [MOD] 4G/H+ Icon for HSPA+ [AOKP M5]

Hello everyone! This is my first ever mod . It's not much, but it was a wonderful learning experience! I've created this thread here because it's probably more appropriate here than in the development section.. Hopefully a mod can delete the one there! This one has more information anyway .
NOTE: This is only for the GSM Galaxy Nexus (Obviously, CDMA Nexus doesn't have HSPA+ ) and is only for the AOKP rom version M5!
Now this isn't just another SystemUI xml mod that swaps the H icon for the 4G icon. This is actually a mod to the source of SystemUI.apk so it can distinguish between HSPA and HSPA+ and show the H icon for HSPA and the 4G/H+ Icon for HSPA+.
Screenshots of both the 4G and H+ are attached.
DISCLAIMER: Although this is a very simple modification and should in no way cause harm to your device, it is still your own responsibility to be careful when modifying your device .
TESTING: I have made flashable zips for both the 4G icon and the H+ icon. I have not tested them though so I'm not positive it works, but it should! If anyone wants to do a backup and flash the zip and let me know how it goes I'd greatly appreciate it! Otherwise, use the manual install procedure below that I know works.

NOTE I'm pretty sure these zips don't work . If anyone wants to private message me with some more info on how to make zips and what's wrong with these I'd appreciate it! For now, you should use the manual install procedure below!
Instructions for zip install:
1. Download zip.
2. Reboot to Recovery (CWM).
3. Install zip from SD card.
4. (Optional) Wipe cache/dalvik cache.
5. Reboot.
6. Enjoy!

Instructions for manual install (not using flashable zip above):
1. Download SystemUI.apk to your SD card.
2. Using your root file explorer of choice, go to system/app and rename your SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.apk.backup (in case you want to go back). Don't forget to Mount R/W if using Root Explorer.
3. Copy SystemUI.apk from your SD card to system/app.
4. Fix permissions on the new SystemUI.apk to rw-r-rr-rr (Owner: read, write; Group: read: Others: read).
5. Reboot
6. Enjoy your 4G/H+ icon!

[Edit] Figured I could just save a copy of the one I already have in the phone and have it as a backup.
[Edit 2] Flashable didn't, uh, flash. Curious.
[Edit 3] It should now show GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSPA, and HSPA+? (By saying that, I ask if you added H+ and left H intact.)

1. For reverting, saving a copy is the best idea!
2. Yeah the .zip was formatted wrong, I just barely fixed that, should work!
3. Exactly! H is intact. H+ is only shown on HSPA+! (HSPAP:15 for Mobile Network under settings)

Interesting. My hometown's antennas seem to be set to only have HSPA+ and 3G (and all the ones below) then. No "regular" HSPA.

Yeah I've talked to a few people where this is the case. If you watch your Mobile network type under Settings>About Phone>Status you should be able to verify that it's working. I only change to H+ when it's HSPAP (HSPAP:15 on TMo in the US) (From my research, that's H+). Otherwise I show just the H (HSPA, HSDPA, etc.)

Just tried the APK. I get systemUI force close when i reboot the phone. Navigation keys and status bar dont start up. I had to restore the old systemui.apk

tried both files
looks like they are both 4G, no H+ ?!

I love this tweak, but several things of AOKP build 37 don't play well with it. Any chance of an update for this build?

Thats because AT&T has it set up like that. In Canada you have a differnt carrier therefor if you apply an AT&T mod to your ROM it will have AT&T affects to it.
If you have the original ROM from your carrier I can use that to make modficaitions to remove it fopr everyone.
Do you have it or know where I can find it?
Can you Nandorid back and do a system dump if I walk you through the steps?
I will be happy to do it for everyone but I need the files for your device to do it.

i have a twrp backup of stock rom that's about is i'm rooted now, but can still do what you ask if it does not matter? i like this 15 toggle mod with the 4glte icon its killer

You need to be rooted, for this mod right? Don't have access to a computer for a couple of days so a can't root

You like that huh? When I was doing ROMS for the One XL people in Canada and Austraila hated the 4G Icon and people in the US said they must have it.
Was such a pain to make everyone happy!
But yeah, let me know if you go back to stock rooted via restore and send me a PM and I will show you how to get what I need.
Also, do you have access to upload large files? These files are going to be pretty big.
If nto I can get you access to my server to upload them. But yeah, that would be great if you do a system dump. That will help EVERYONE!
What carrier are you on? Rogers?

Yeah, as long as you do a full restore of /system and /boot then I can walk you through dumping it and uploading it.
From there, I can make it into a stock rooted ROM for everyone on Rogers like I did for my own AT&T and i can also comapre the differences in the status bar and the framework files.
These things are normally in the services and svc.jar files but eitherway, I will find it and put up a new version for either.

Hmm odd i didnt run into that issue at all worked perfectly for me! minus my carrier showing up lol what rom u flash it on?

I'm completely ATT Original Stock but Rooted with CF method from another room. I'm I ok to flash this? Might be not right?

Are you running a de-odex ROM? Because the SysUI is De-Odex and you would need to delete the SystemUI.ODEX for this to work on full stock root.

Make a back up and then you will need to delete SystemUI.ODEX in the /system/app folder. If not you will get F/C.
If that makes you weary let me know and I will post one specifically for the stock ROM.

[ROM-ROOT GUIDE] [TMOBILE T889UVALK8] Rooted / Deodexed / Wifi-Calling + MultiWindow

This is the complete original T-Mobile ROM running perfectly and beautifully on the AT&T I317... (NEW MULTI WINDOW UPDATE T889UVALK8 NOW AVAILABLE!)
-> Wifi-Calling perfecly working with T-Mobile Sim Card... (you need to have your AT&T I317 Sim Unlocked...)
-> If you are coming from stock AT&T or N7105 ROM, you don't even need to format/wipe data... just flash and all your data and apps will be there when it boots! but with T-Mobile ROM! (Some cases may require Full Wipe)
HOW TO ROOT AT&T I317
1. Make sure your phone is recognized by your computer by downloading the necessary Samsung Kies Drivers,
then... Download this file:
Galaxy Note 2 Root Kit
2. Unrar the downloaded file and you should have a folder called "Galaxy Note 2 Root Kit". Inside that folder, there is a file called "CWM-SuperSU-v0.97.zip", copy that file to your phone's internal memory. (you can also copy it to the external memory, but it is not recommended)
3. Put your phone into "Download Mode" by Turning it off, then press Power Button + Volume Down + Home Button (all 3 at the same time) and you will get into "Download Mode"... Ones you get there, Press Volume Up.

4. RECOVERY PART -> Now plug your phone into your computer, and run Odin 3 (Inside the Galaxy Note Root Kit folder you will see a sub folder called Odin3_vx.xx, and there you will see the Odin EXE file)
5. No make sure your Odin app looks like the image below: (Make sure the PDA option is set and click on the PDA button an look for the file called cwm6-recovery-i317.tar.md5 (inside the "Galaxy Note 2 Root Kit" folder. Also make sure it says "Added" on the message box on the left!)
6. Then click "Start"
7. Your phone will restart after flashing... When it boots up into android... Turn it off again.
8. Turn your phone on by pressing POWER + VOLUME UP + HOME BUTTON (at the same time) and as soon as you see the "Galaxy Note 2" splash, release the power button and keep pressing VOLUME UP + HOME BUTTON. You should get to the recovery you just flashed on the previous step.
9. SUPERUSER PART-> Now choose "Install zip from sdcard" and browse for CWM-SuperSU-v0.97.zip that you previously copied to the phone on Step 2.
10. After choosing the file, click YES (in order to install superuser on your phone... in other words, rooting android)
11. After flashing just go back on the menu and reboot device...
D O N E - > You are now rooted!
- - - AT THIS POINT YOU ***SHOULD*** BACKUP YOUR ROM (NANDROID) USING THE RECOVERY - - -
FLASHING THE T-MOBILE ROM:
You can use CWM Recovery or a more robust Recovery like TWRP in order to flash the T-Mobile ROM. Basically just copy the downloaded ROM into your phone and Flash It. You might not even need to wipe data or anything, just flash the rom and see how it goes... If for some reason your phone did not like the transition from one ROM to another without wiping data, then wipe data / cache and perform a clean install.

This is probably a dumb question, but how do you go about getting your ATT SIM CARD Unlocked?
I was with T Mobile for about 3 days before cancelling my contract and going to ATT and the only thing I liked about their service was the WI FI Calling their phones could do - I would love to be able to do this while on ATT - but didn't know if there was some way to retain ATT Service while unlocking the sim card?

You need to have your AT&T phone unlocked (is not the actual sim card) and you need to use an actual T-Mobile sim card, so you can use wifi calling... (since wifi calling is just for T-Mobile and can't be used on any other carrier) With this rom, you can use the AT&T sim card without any problem, just like any other rom, but if you own a T-Mobile sim card, then you can use the Wifi Calling feature without owning the T-Mobile's Note 2 (T889) Because this is the exact ROM loaded on the T889... (but now on the AT&T I317)

I flashed this T-Mobile Rom onto my ATT Note 2 i317, but not getting 4g speed, only edge, was wondering if the T-Mobile Modem/Baseband can be flash on this ATT Note 2 i317?
Please advise

the screen shots you are showing for the APN Settings for ATT do not have anyhting Entered for MMS Port and it should say 80.
That is what my APN settings say - and it is what all previous instructions I have seen for ATT APN have said - I don't know if it is absoutley necessary but I would thnk that it might be important -

Yes you will get Edge on T-Mobile (currently) But soon there will be a flashable modem that should support T-Mo... Will post updates as they arrive.

No Problem - I honestly don't' know how important it is - I have always had 80 in that field - and I have seen it in other instructions from other ROMS that needed to have the APN Manually entered - but I don't know that it absolutely must be there - I had noticed that someone else posted that they couldn't get LTE - so maybe it has something to do with that?
Anyway - I hope it helped.

First off, let me say i love this rom! i have a at&t note 2 running on t-mobile network with 4g, 42 mbps. my only problem is that the camera pics are come out in a different rotation than i originally took them in. any ideas?

A: You need to odin flash the MK2 modem.

Q: Do I need to do a full wipe or is dirty flash OK?
A: It's highly recommended that you do a FULL wipe coming from V8 or any other ROM.
You can take your chance with "dirty flash" but don't expect help if you have problems.
Q: How can I change the battery icon and center the clock, ect.?
A: Use Wanam Xposed module, it's included with the ROM.
Q: I don't have Mobile Data and HotSpot toggle in the drop down panel. Can it be added?
A: Yes you can add Mobile Data and HotSpot toggle. Just follow this easy guide.

Q: Can I record phone conversation.
A: Call recording is included in the ROM. However V9.1 call recording does not work out of the box.

Battery life is a "YMMV" deal. Each person use their devices differenly, have different apps installed ect.
You just need to play around with settings till you find what's best for you.

There's so many thread about kt and how to fully utilize it in the general section. You will be BLOWN away by the different setups provided in the threads

This is what I myself would try. I would completly go back to stock. That will clean all partions files, etc. Something is preventing that modem from sticking. Or you can stay with MDL if your not having data issues. OR, flash a different rom (like mine) and try to Odin the modem again.

Im not having data issues, but I want to flash the known working call recorder app, and it is for MDL deodexed roms only.
So that's really my onnly reason, my latest speedtest was 4 megs down and 10 up with only 2 bars of LTE.
If there is no reason to switch and there is a working call recording phone.apk for MDB then I am happy to use it.

You will have to look for one. Go to the theme section and look around. I'm sure one is there.

I used this to fixed the call recording (I don't know if it work for MDB but you can do a nandroid backup and test)

That dialer screenshot above will NOT work
on V8 or any 4.2.2 rom.
It was designed to work on Samsung M919 Jellybean 4.3 based roms.

The Dark dialer is the entire apks, so make sure you do
not try to flash the Blue Glass Dialer over it, it
will cause a loop. Just reflash the stock Dialer, then
you can flash the Blue Glass Dialer....

I recommend TWRP, its what I use. And my Vrtheme
is TWRP based. Im sure other recoveries will work as
as well.
Make sure you have a backup...you never know
if you might need it.
Just flash in recovery. My updater-script will wipe
cache/dalvik for you.

Good morning out there i was wondering if i could use this mod with the rom INSANE KITKAT V9 and when i read the flashing instructions for this mod it said the UPDATER SCRIPT will do the wiping for me with that being said i dont have to wipe anything before or after the install sorry for the noob questions unfortunately i am still a noob lol but learning fast thanks to yall of you!!! thanks again!!

It can used with INSANE KITKAT v9 with no wipe needed before or after.

The updater script doesn't wipe /system (if it did you would not have a ROM flashed anymore), but does delete cache and dalvek cache.
I wish that the latter was an option, but only because I use muktiboot and these ROMs are set up in the cache (I manually wipe only the primary ROM's cache when needed).
If I unzipped the file, modified the updater script, and re-zipped - will it work or does it mess up the signed zip?
No big deal either way (just have to reflash multiROMs after running aroma either here or in the Insane ROM itself) - just wondering.

Tried that- removed only the delete recursive lines. The i wiped primary cache and dalvek manually and flashed the modded zip.
It at first seemed to run Ok (no errors, etc), but it did not display the usual progress with the mods and it finished to fast. No mods were actually flashed apparently.
I had this happen before when I tried the same thing with V7 - it ran (quickly) but did not do anything.
I apparently impacted something else in the updater script, but I cannot tell what it was.
