[Facer] Rectangular Faces by Onecton - Sony Smartwatch 3

Booya Fellow XDA Friends, here it goes, I try to convert my round faces into Rectangular ones
Resolution is 320x320 to fit the SWR 50 obvioulsly but it should work on any other 320x320 resolution rectangular watch to. Most watches have a hidden layer to swith the logos if you know what i mean

Mastertime - The Face has 3 different Faces, just try them out in the Opacity Settings and use the one you like
Corsa Black
Saltflat Racer
Thats the first bunch i edited today, more are comming trust me, but my time is sparse
Feedback would be nice how it looks on the watch, im designing blind as i don't own a SWR50 or any other Smartwatch yet
Edit Baby!!
More Faces two for now. The Logos are just in the preview, look in the facer file for more inspiration! u know what i mean
Modaco Black
Modaco Silver

Master time looks great, but the second hand is set display in ambient mode, but just freezes in its last known position. Corsa only shows the hands in ambient, but also looks great when lit up
---------- Post added at 02:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:59 PM ----------
Forgot to mention, salt flat is the one that doesn't quite work, its hands are very blurry in ambient.
This is awesome work for sure. The ambient mode with the tft screen is totally unique, and I've been struggling to figure out how to best make use of it.

Thankks for the heads up, yes i messed around with the settings on the dimmed display option, and forgot. I will update the facer file from Corsa to show everything at anytime, looks quite stupid if just the hands are lid.
On Mastertime everything should be lid even if its in ambient/dimmed display mode. I went through the facer file again at it should all work, maybe its a issue with Facer itself.
the Hands on Saltflat Racer, i dont quite understand what do you mean with blurry? could you make a picture ? that would be awesome. Maybe the blurr comes from the texture I made on the White areas of the Hands. If thats so then i need to reedit the Image file

Maybe blurry is the wrong word, blocky is probably better, the hands blend together when close together making it hard to read.
And, yeah, only the one watchface showed the hands only

This is cool, I had similar thoughts for getting some round ones to square. Just had a specific round model created from JPG, but the roundness does annoy me. How did you edit the dials to get the squares? did you completely redraw them or used a specific edit ? Will show my facer face soon on facerepo, hope to add a squared version too.

Completely re-edited them from the ground up. Of course I left some stones unturned. Mostly it is just the outer ring that needs a quick fix. But if you redo it then it is superclean PS is your friend. I experimented a bit and am quite pleased to make the faces as I want now only limit is the imagination
PS: sorry I wasn't able to fix the satfaltracer today. I try to fix it tomorrow

i see now, Photoshop does a good job,but it isn't superclean (and my attempt to squared isn't symmetrical when i now look at it)

i see what you mean, i dont think you can reedit an existing round face like that, that just looks well not so good. you need to build it specific for an rectangular face from the ground up thats what i ment. not try to force it in square. i have all my watches in round, and then i build them again in square format.:good:

I uploaded an extraordinarily simple watchface that I've been using. I was frustrated by the fact that, despite the TFT screen tech, we couldn't have a black face on a white background in ambient mode. This face gives you that, while leaving the bottom half black so that notifications display properly (something that can be eliminated once we get the watchface api). I might make a few more variations on this when I have some time to design, but it's a useful template for the split we have to work with. http://facerepo.com/app/faces/details/sw3-b-w-high-contrast-ambient-149aae7a6fd

the stock watchfaces have some animation when the screen turn on, this don't make any animation

so it is a facer limit or the watchfaces doesn't include animation?

It's really an api limit. Until Google releases the android wear update that includes the actual api oems are using to make stock watchfaces, nobody will have access to all the tools to do what stock watch faces do. My money is on facer updating once the api is released to give designers all the tools they need. Until then Facer and any other watchface app is sort of working around the lack of an official api.

Gee, thanks to your rectangular faces I now see that the watch has an asymmetric bezel, which is kind of a downer for me. Any analog watch faces will look horrible. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

My god the negativity, this dude is just making cool watch faces for our device.

What negativity, cabron? Stop being so paranoid! All I'm saying is that I now notice the bezel asymmetry, something I didn't notice until I saw Onecton's watch faces. That is all! My argument has no bearing on anything Onecton is or does.

[PRJ] I'm working on a 3D rom I need some help

I know everyones first question "why?"
Well because I want to see it get done. Its something to brag about to your apple owning friends.
This probably should be under the theme section if so some admin should move this but I felt that it should go under development because its a big project.
Alright what I wanna see done
1. I wanna find out if it is possible to make a 3D rom
2. If its possible I want to take an already existing rom and turn all of the basics 3D
3. I would like to try to make sets of themes that are 3D that can be added on top of existing roms
Heres how you can help
If you have lots of skills with pictures look at the link and start 3D-ing Ava's V7 this is the rom I'm picking because I like it.
http://www.opentutorial.com/Make_3d_images
Once you have made a piece or pieces 3D send them 2 me and I will compile everything.
Oh if there is anyone who thinks the have a way to make this go smoother or have a different idea that accomplishes these goals I will gladly turn this over to you.
Again my over all goal is to say that Evo did it first and that android can do anything
Awsome idea cant wait to see if possible also will 3d glass be availible with the rom? lol

Sent from my phone... I think useing Tapatalk?
I tried a pair of red/green glasses and some of the spots in that picture pop out, but the city is just blurry. Trying to find a pair of red/blue I know I have somewhere and see how it looks though those.
I don't have any of the fancy pairs that they give out in the theaters.
Nice... Now to find some 3d glasses...
Will this also make/have ability to make video or movies 3d.. Or is this 3d just for the ui..
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Okay, found the red/blue glasses. Wouldn't really say it looks 3D, but it makes everything in the picture have more depth. The city sits back farther, like it's really out in the water. Looks pretty cool.
yup looks great
i had a pair of glasses there blu red and yes looks pretty nice no blurr or nothing
The polarized glasses won't work because this display isn't built to send two images out at different angles. The only way you could do it would be to make all of your images (start with background and stay simple) into the red/blue style or red/green style with software and then use those glasses. Even then it is sort of emulated unless you shoot your photo with two cameras spaced a little way apart (or model the image in 3d rendering software so that the computer knows how far away the parts are supposed to be).
The hard way would be to completely rewrite the display engine so that it alternated in sync with those shutter glasses but the framerate would be halved and I can't imagine how hard that would be, not to mention how you would need to use the USB port to sync with the glasses.

Yeah this is a lot more in depth than I thought it was going to be I figured it was simply going to be editing images for everything which is a pain in its self.
I think I'm going to have to abandon this one for a while until I find a better way to do this
I have glasses from a recent 3d movie. They dont use red and blue style 3d'ing. So there was 0 3d in the picture. I can see the red and blue in it though so obviously it will work with those glasses. Put avatar, resident evil, how to train your dragon etc... glasses wont work.
no no no. just buy 2 phones. one for each eye. then keep the different perspective images on each.

Umm obama is garbage.....
i thought he meant three dimensional screens or something, I didn't think it would actually be red/blue 3d. It would be more of a novelty than anything though, nobody wants to carry around 3d glasses.
I think this would be a cool project. Also cool because it wouldnt really take up any more battery power, because it is JUST normal pictures, but with red/blue(3d) hues around it. The design seems like it could be pretty simple, maybe just normal wallpaper screen, but with icons that pop up. And with live wallpapers, things pop out. that would be cool. like the nexus wallpaper with scrolling lines.
But everything would get distorted when your hand moved in the way.

Sony Ericsson MBW-150 OLED repairs

I have recently picked up a SE MBW-150 Music Edition... Just to be plagued with the super dim OLED screen issue.
From what I have read, there seems to be two major issues with these watches that are deal breakers for most people, as SE won't repair/replace your device unless it is still under warranty (kind of hard to do since they are out of production).
1) Battery issues. Status: solved, thanks to XDA members
2) Fading/dead OLED display. Status: doesn't appear that anyone has tackled this problem yet.
So, after being plenty pissed that the gift I had just bought myself was broken. I decided to get past it and make the best of it.... And take it apart.
--------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't like reading, start here.
The top part is just me being long winded.
--------------------------------------------------------------
There are two pieces of good news...
1) It still works after I got done snooping around inside and put it back together.
2) I think I have sourced replacement OLED displays.
I am waiting for the display panels I ordered to be shipped, and I will be the first guinea pig to see if my solution works.
After that (providing that everything goes well) I would be willing to offer repairs on a first come first serve basis for a nominal fee (cover parts, shipping, and buy me a beer lol).
--------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't like reading, stop here... Lazy.
--------------------------------------------------------------
So all in all, I really have some hope for extending the life of a product that all of us paid way to much for to get just enough life out of to get out of warranty. I really don't see how Sony Ericsson can do this to us in the first place, charge top dollar and then out right refuse to service them if they are out of warranty.
Once I get the panels in, I will post pics of before and after.
Hopefully after will be a pic of my MBW-150 Music with a working display... But there is always the chance of it being a pic of melted pieces, char marks, and bandages... Lets hope for the first one
--------------------------------------------------------------
30-Mar-2011 Update:
4-8 week for delivery of initial order of red oled displays.

31-Mar-2011 Update:
Added information on OLED displays I am trying
to work with. Link to post
--------------------------------------------------------------
This is very good news. My display went out too, but when I tried to take the watch apart something seemed to be catching, so I chickened out.
I'll be watching and waiting to see your results.
Just an FYI.
The displays I am getting are red OLED.
having the music edition, I wanted orange, like the OEM screen but I couldn't find them anywhere. Red seemed like it would semi match the color scheme.
The brightness rating was lower on red, but predicted lifespan was almost double that of the other colors.
The Executive that I have and the Classic both have white displays, so if you get it figured out, I hope you can get some of those too.

Prices are looking good. My initial order was only two displays (one for the watch, and one in case I screw up). Total price with displays and shipping was just under $30 US.

I'm not pulling a Sony and saying that I am not giving info out, just that I want to be sure that the info is actually correct first.
There's a set of 96x16 for $15 on Ebay; I was thinking they might be similar to the originals for my Executive edition (says blue). I haven't disassembled my 150 yet to see if they're the same display, but the specs mentioned hot bar contacts. My soldering skills wouldn't lend themselves to something like this, but definitely keep us posted on how this works. I would love to get my 150 working again. I hope you manage to solve this issue!

Those use a tab connector, not solder-on. And ribbon location is wrong. Good find though, I am constantly looking for alternatives in case mine won't work.

Already have that. But thanks.
Their internal photos are public through the FCC. But they applied for, and received, a permanent confidentiality status on the parts list. Which, from what I can tell, only screws us on the screen as all markings on the chips and other components are readily visible.
Been thinking about why I was holding back on specs for the displays I have on order...
Mostly holding back in case I was completely off the mark on these actually working, and didn't want to look like a dumb ass if it failed... But that doesn't make any sense, if it fails I will look like a dumb ass regardless of if people know what components I was using or not lol.
So, in the spirit of XDA, and getting things done as a community, here's what I am using.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disclaimer!!! - I don't know if these will even work yet!
If you further break your broken watch by using these,
it is NOT MY FAULT. Proceed with caution.

Edit: Also, you will see in the tech brief that these are available in red, yellow, green, blue, and white... If they end up working this leaves us some new found room for customization.
Edit Edit: sample photo from manufacturer.

More info.
While I had an electrical engineer in my office today, I decided to pick his brain on this whole project... his verdict was that he is certain that the Truly displays will work, which leaves the only potential issue left to be fitting the face of the display into the black plastic behind the face of the watch. (Hopefully it fits right in)
Awesome news?
Yeah it sounds like good .... I Hope it Works
Waiting with bated breath
Looking forward to hearing your results. And I thought I was a fan of the MBWs!
I have 3 of them, one with the dim oled.

Thank you!!

I have three of these myself, also one with the dim LED. In the OpenWatch thread, someone posted a link to replacement Music Edition bands here: http://www.gigatel.hu/G21654. It's not in English so I can't tell if they offer the other bands or not. Maybe they're the same anyway.
Someone else bought an aftermarket tan one that looks good: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7240435
I would be interested in repairs/replacement of OLED display as well as i have the executive edition and realize how important it is when it's NOT working properly!!!

Stop blowing this out of proportion! They are fine and actually in some cases way better than my HTC 8X (Super LCD2). This screen is easily the best on the market.
They're not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, not like the HTC Sensation back in 2011. It'd be nice if they were better though, for sure.

Once the SAMOLED came out on the Galaxy S, everyone expects perfect viewing angles now. But it's just a novelty, like something you can brag about to your friend who has a different phone. In real-world use, I'm never going to watch a movie with the phone tilted away from me.

Once the SAMOLED came out on the Galaxy S, everyone expects perfect viewing angles now. But it's just a novelty, like something you can brag about to your friend who has a different phone. In real-world use, I'm never going to watch a movie with the phone tilted away from me.

Movies aren't the only thingI use my phone for though. I use graphing calculators on the phone since don't want to go out and spend $100 on one. Sometimes it's difficult to see the calculator clearly because it washes out. I'm not looking at it head on, it's beside my math work.
And ppl never pick on SAMOLED is basically unreadable under natural light (sun light) which is the problem I would run into more than looking at my screen side way. S3 owner here.

I'm not worry about viewing angle or colors/contrast,my concerns is that due to this thing ZL has not best reselling value

Maybe you have a bad screen, I'm reading my phone right now and it's at an extreme angle. Still looks wonderful and sharp, everything is clear and readable.
60-70° Viewing Angle (with some sunlight, indoors with lots of windows)

I will when I get home, but I can say that after calibrating the white balance viewing angles are much better. The camera is good, but they come out blurry as if there is too much post-processing going on. I think the hardware is good, the software is just messing it up.
my ZL has bad angles too (Russian eurotest C6602)

This is pretty darned clever...

Of course it will be down to the software for how well it works, but it has piqued my interest.
This is pretty damn sweet actually :good:
Very cool.. i was thinking of doing something like that for myself anyways, but it would be nice if it was made for it!
I wonder how well this system will integrate with an aftermarket car stereo. I have a sub woofer, and a backup camera in my car, and they both connect directly to my head unit. If I could use an android phone as my backup camera, I would be incredibly pleased.

I believe it has preamp outs for a sub amp, but no input for a cam.

Can't really expect them to support other party cam setups. You could rig up an IP cam back there. There are a number of apps on Play that should be able to receive it.
A little more information here from Android Police

My main concern with a setup like that would be screen burn-in on our AMOLED display. I used my GNex in a powered car dock with the screen always on, and I could clearly see the giant Pandora "P" burned into the middle of the screen from my car-home application.

Why would you need to keep the display on all of the time? Of course, if the clamp doesn't allow access to your power button, then it is a pretty big fail for Android.

If there was an option to dim the display or even go to sleep, with a way to quickly wake it up (Car Home Ultra recently added this feature) then I'd be fine with that. Otherwise, what kind of hoops would you have to jump through to skip/pause/change source/etc with the display turned off, all while avoiding an accident?

Well, I am assuming they thought this out, and ran everything by the lawyers as liability can be a big thing with something like this. Of course, it may be half ass (with no one thinking about sleeping/waking the phone) and just put up a universal disclaimer every time you power it on, much like my Eclipse "user interface from hell" in-dash nav head.
Guess will just have to wait and see.

Yeah, too light on details to know at this point. But I don't think it would really matter as much on non-AMOLED phones. I'm just wondering if this is tailored more for Xperia phones. If I had all the standard playback controls as physical buttons I'd probably be happy with it. It does look like it might have physical volume buttons, but I can't really tell what the others are for in that tiny pic.

The buttons on the front are source, voice, and volume, and maybe dual purpose (long press) as there are other labels printed next to them. It also comes with a remote for when the phone is not docked.
It is tailored for Sony models as it has the magnetic charging port for them in the cradle. I just hope it was not designed for always on screens. That would be a waste.
i will never, ever, ever ,ever EVER buy another sony product again, much less another head unit. i bought one last year that was 1/2 assed at best, and the firmware updates were pathetic. Plus when everyone complained in the forums, they buried the car audio forum in miscellaneous products with all the dead proprietary tech they abandoned. STAY AWAY
this head unit has potential. i've always wanted to do something with my N7, but this is a close second, and portable.

i'm wondering if this thing can be modified to fit a tablet!? at the end of the day, it's just the mounting mechanism that gets in the way.
I have yet to find a tablet that isn't polarized at 90°. That means it is un-viewable in landscape when driving with polarized sunglasses (which I always use).
Thankfully the Moto X is polarized at 45° and viewable in both portrait and landscape.

good point. the 7 is def polarized at 90.
i seemed to have had a similar problem with my old DROID1/2/3/4 lines. once i added an anti-glare screen protector, it seemed to correct the issue. i wonder if the same could be accomplished with a tablet or if its too much real estate.
That's kind of cool that it has a small display behind where the phone sits, that kind of resolves one of my concerns about it being totally useless without a phone, and having to uninstall it later when I sell the car.
Those "shelfs" on the top and bottom look like major dust catchers though, that would drive me nuts. The "release" button makes me wonder if the clamping mechanism is motorized? Would be cool if the magnet was strong enough and polarized correctly to trigger the Car Mode on the Moto X too.
Sorry, just thinking out loud...

you could always tape/glue a magnet to engage it.

What is the giant bottom bezel for?

What is the function of the bottom bezel if navigation buttons are on screen? obviously Google would have made the screen bigger or phone smaller if the bezel was just blank space... so what is its function then?

The tear down will answer this question. There is always some sort of electronics down there, just a matter of how much. is in there.
hopefully a lot or else that is very disappointing... I wish they at least added a home button or a finger print sensor there at least for aesthetics

The Pixel is built off of the HTC A9 frame, HAS to be. Just look at the damn thing.

Here is the Pixel when some leaks first started to happen. The two sensors have been moved but their the same size and shape. There is also a little blur down at the bottom, might be covering a button of some kind.
A9 or htc10 frame
I like the bottom bezel. I know I'm the minority though.
On my Nexus 6P, the bottom of the screen is too low to reach comfortably, in my opinion.

Wish they would have went with the rear of the HTC 10.
Or just a phone with very rounded corners. Possible they just like the style. Antennae array is in the back under the glass I heard so that seems different then the other HTC phones. The camera is at the top but in the corner also.
Waiting for a device break down and we will see how close it is. I do not really care for the large Bezels either but I suppose they have a reason.

I agree, I'm currently using a 2014 Nexus 6 and the thin bottom bezel makes it so I have to reach too far downward to press the on screen nav buttons, which makes for very uncomfortable use
Judging by hands on reviews of these Pixel phones, it looks like the big bottom bezel keeps the users thumbs in alignment with the nav buttons, which probably leads to more comfortable use, especially when using the phone in one hand.
I agree they could of done more with the bottom bezel, like add a speaker or something. Hopefully they at least made good use of that space internally

You are right, they do look similar in some ways. Judging by the comparisons picture that I added to this post, the bezels are thinner on all sides of the Pixel phones when compared to the A9. The sensor window is the same shape but seems to be a little bigger on the Pixel.
The backside of the Pixel is obviously different and if you turn the Pixel sideways, the Pixel starts out thin on the bottom and becomes thicker at the top, which the A9 doesn't.
So there are some differences and if they did start out with a A9 template then Google modified it to their own liking.

Edit - Turns out those unboxing videos are old and not from today, my bad.

Comparison videos are what I really want to see. MKBHD is a little too focused on the camera on any phone, while Flossy actually buys the devices he reviews, and always compares them to whatever else he has.
If you haven't seen his stuff, you should watch his Real Reviews, which are like 45 minutes to an hour...and hilarious. Plus, he's a huge black dude from New York.

You know you could buy the device yourself and have 30 days to return it for a full refund right? Why let others influence your decision... the phone isn't going to be bad by any means, so there is nothing to worry about there.
