Philips Android TV - Philips, Sony, TCL Android TV

Hi Guy,
I recently buy a Android TV Philips PUS7909. It's an android tv based with 4.2.2 on board, unfortunatly Philips make the choice to block LOTS of android function...
I can't install unallowed apps, enabling dev mod....
I just want to know if someone here have this tv, or another philips android tv, and if someone can root it etc etc
Yes i know, it's not even christmas , but maybe someone can do amazing thing on android tv, specially on xda !

Hi,
I've a 48PFS8159 and could not find a way too.

My dream is the possibilty to install kodi/xbmc !
And something like Retroarch with the possibility to connect a dualshock

I too have a PUS7909/12 Android TV and I was disappointed by several things, one of them being unable to install most of Store apps. Rooting would be great as at least it would allow to install .apk files.

New update for this tv soon :
The new Firmware will soon be live.
AND1E_0.9.32.118 (Date published: 2014-11-21)
• HDMI EDID adaptions for Full HD <-> Ultra HD interoperability ( DISCONNECT HDMI cables before starting the upgrade)
• 3D fixes
Maybe we can do something with the update files.....

Should Philips provide the source code of its Android implementation? Are they under the obligation to provide it?

Hi,
I read one comment from Finnish netshop, it's for 55pus8809 model:
1. Install "Developer Tools" from play shop
2. Choose "Developer settings"
3. Switch developer options "on"
4. And "Show more apps in Google Play"
5. Reboot TV
Install "Set orientation" from play to orientation problems, switch "Landscapen" on.
I don't have Philips TV, but planning to buy one
Here is link to source, I don't know how it works...
verkkokauppa.com/fi/product/16035/dxskv/Philips-55PUS8809-55-Smart-Android-4K-Ultra-HD-3D-LED-televi#BVRRWidgetID
Lähetetty minun Nexus 5 laitteesta Tapatalkilla

I tried this, and it's true that some more apps are shown. Would be great to load apk files, but there is no "unknown sources" option...

I have the Philips 48PFS8109.
Developer options are enabled, but there is just no way to enable 'unknown sources'.
With the Google Search function the Settings options is not showing (it works on phones if you search settings)
Not a single application is compatible that gives me a shortcut to settings.
If i try to install an .apk file i get the message you need to go to settings and allow it. There is an Settings and Cancel, but if i press on settings nothing happens.
Does someone know a way to call up the settings menu with Therminal Emulator?
I already updated the tv but do you guys think its possible to just add an .apk file in the .upg file?
I can change the .upg to .zip and add an app in the system folder.

Hi,
that sounds good
I had a look into the updater-binary (firmware/manual/ambilight-fix update zip file) and the firmware is, as we already know, encrypted.
When you have a look with IDA Demo (hex-rays.com) you can see that the encryption key is taken from: "/res/keyfile.txt" which must remain somewhere on the TV.
AES-256-CBC is used and the key/IV is somehow, depends on the content of the keyfile.txt, MD5 sum of the content lines (e.g. one for key, one for IV).

O M F G
I was on vacation for two weeks and i don't check this topic and what the hell is going on !
What a surprise for me to see what you do here !
Thanks a lot guys !
-----EDIT-------
The method to allow unknow source and install apk via adb working, thank you !
Tryed to install xbmc/ kodi but the launch and just crash, so bad. But that sound good !
-----EDIT 2------
There is a bluetooth option..... i can't connect my dualshock 3 on the tv because we need root for sixaxis controller app..... let's go to install some emulator !
------EDIT 3------
So... After some test, i was able to connect the duaslhock 3 controller in usb, BUT not all touch is recognised. So i can't play Mario Bros on Retroarch. I think i need another controller.
Kodi v14 lastest nightly boot but crash at home screen.
That's all for the moment !

Someone tray to use this oscam on TV?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547518
Is root needed? Have anyone idea how to root this TVs? I have 55PFS8109/12

Tested some apps.
AngryBirds - not working
World Of Tanks Blitz - works OK
QuickPic - works OK
Antutu score 22200 but all graphic test is in resolution 1280x720
Towellroot and framaroot like mentioned above want work. and root is most important ...
More investigations:
recovery mode on TV have only 2 options:
- restart system
- update system from sdcard
From:
- adb reboot download
- adb reboot recovery
is possible to do this steps?
->adb push busybox /data/local/tmp
->adb push su /data/local/tmp
->adb push Superuser.apk /data/local/tmp
adb shell
->chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/su
->chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/busybox
->chmod 644 /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk
and copy above files to:
/system/bin
/system/app
???????

Just installed Twitch and it's working great. But it's only stremead in full hd, so it's not very good on the screen, but it's work !
Someone have try to install a video player that can handle 4K files ?

I have the '48PFS8109/12' and tryed also some things.
- 13.2 Gotham XBMC (kodi) not working, my tv starts the app and after a few seconds the app crashs and the tv volume goes to 60.
- Kodi 14.0 “Helix” – RC 2 not working, my tv starts the app and after a few seconds the app crashs and the tv volume goes to 60.
- Kodi 14.0 “Helix” – Nightly not working, my tv starts the app and after a few seconds the app crashs and the tv volume goes to 60.
I use 'MX Player' with the DTS codec, i don't know if that player can handle 4K, i know that they say KODI can do 4K.

got ouya on fire tv, but can't install telling me enable unknown sources

So in another thread it gives you the apk files needed to get the ouya launcher. I've gotten into the ouya store, but any game I try to download and install, complains that I need to enable "Unknown sources". My box is rooted which I thought automatically emulates "Unknown sources". I've seen the guy in the video run Bombsquad, and he mentions to "Enable Unknown sources". Anyone has this working, what needs to be done to get games to install and play on Ouya.

Need to go into Settings (from Original AFTV launcher) and System, then Developers Option and turn on Install from Unknown Sources.
If you have an earlier version of AFTV, then you need to do the SQLite method, do a search for it.

I had this same problem today...I coudlen't get the ADB commands to work...But I found out it's done via SQLITE editing ...so I did another solution
*buy* (or find) SQLIte Editor...(or an app that can edit SQL database files) and sideload it.
Download LanMote Lite from the play store(you need mouse support) and Sideload it. Once done RUN LanMote Lite and start the server (Free version is limited to 30 minutes so act quickly) On your HTML 5 device (preferrably a smartphone or tablet) [PC works but mouse is slow and wonky] connect to the same wifi as the FTV (if you didnt do it already) and open your web browser and put in the address LANMOTE will show on the FTV (example http://xx.xx.xx:9999) also enable different cursor.
Go to FTV home and go to settings>>APPLICATIONS >> your SQLITE editing program.
(in SQLITE Editor) Allow SU permisions and use your amazon remote (it works for simple navigation for now) to go to FILES TAB and go to
DATA>>>DATA>>>com.android.providers.settings >>SETTINGS.DB
go to the GLOBAL folder. You should see a list with different settings (BE CAREFUL)
(now this is where you need a mouse)
on your HTML 5 device (smartphone) go the MOUSE Tab and use the mouse pad to mouse near the entry that says INSTALL_NON_MARKET_APPS you will notice that default for this option is 0 (which means off/ disabled) Mouse over the 0 and tap the "click" button on your HTML device. you will notice the entire row becomes gray.
Use your Amazon Remote and click EDIT RECORD. cursor down to the 0 and change it to a 1
use your remote and scroll below it should give a CANCEL and SAVE button. Click save with the remote.
go back to home and enjoy sideloading unknown sources.

From the main (Launcher) screen, select Settings.
Select System > About > Network. Make note of the IP address listed on this screen.
Now Just open the AGK fire app attached below, enter you FireTV/Stick IP Address and select the app you want to install on your FireTV/Stick.
Credits goes to alexjlockwood for "https://github.com/alexjlockwood/AppListLoader" which is the backbone for my app.
Also Thanks to all the wonderful tutorials on android app development on the web.
Any Suggestions are welcome. I will try to address as soon as I can.
I don't know how many people tried this app and felt it to be useful, but I am posting a new Version of this app. One small request if you use the app, please post a comment , any comment greatly appreciated.

It should work. I haven't tested any. I have fire stick only. Any device that has adb over network turned on should work.
I'll try it tonight and let you know. I have an ADT-1 Developer Kit.
I think ADT-1 uses port 4321 so when you set your ipaddress add :4321 to the end of it. Thanks for testing.
Looks great. Super simple. Saves a bunch of time, thank you
Can't get it working
I have enabled adb and install of unknown apps, but no apps are installing to My Fire TV. When I select an app to install, I see a window pop up very briefly that says "Installing app", but then nothing.
It's awesome

Amazing app! Thank you!
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
Thank you! This worked flawlessly (version 1.1) on FireStick. Much faster than upload/download from Dropbox.
I haven't tried the direct apk, only apps installed on my phone (oneplus one).
edit: Had a moment where it would toast "installing", but then fade and do nothing. Killed app and restarted FireStick, and worked again. Not sure which of those two actions fixed it.
I have a few suggestions:
1. Go into your XDA settings and enable the donation button. You deserve compensation for your efforts. This is a great app.
2. When the app executes any adb command, like "adb install ....", you should target the IP address specifically. Some Android devices, including the Fire TV, will already be connected to an emulated adb device if developer mode is turned on. So when the app connects to the Fire TV, your adb commands will fail because there are two connected devices. I think this is the source of many peoples issues. You can direct adb commands like this:
Code:
adb -s <ipaddress:5555> ...
Note that the port number is required for this to work.
3. The app can be used on a Fire TV to install Fire TV only apps onto a Fire TV Stick. However, navigating with the remote is a bit broken. When the app list initially loads, make it so that the first item is selected/highlighted by default. This will allow the Fire TV remote to move the selection down the list. I found a workaround that allows this to work for now. If you press the menu button on the Fire TV remote and go to the apps settings, when you return to the app list, the selector will be present.

BTW, your app looks much nicer than the Fireinstaller app that is available on Google Play. Maybe you should make it available there. Make it work for both Fire TV and Android TV. Call it "Sidestaller TV".

You can play with the remote? Can you flip it on its side to make it more like the nes controller?
Im not 100% clear on this... Do you have a preliaded skin that supports emulators with fan art? Sounds interesting though.

The emulator is not within Kodi, but an App on the fire TV.
I suppose you can flip the remote. But when you open emulator, you will need to go into options to turn off the onscreen keyboard, go to input devices so you can map the keys to your remote, then go go load games and choose the roms-nes folder to find the games. Same applies to the snes. Also, it is best to change the options, video options and set aspect to full screen.

Yes with nes.emu you can program the remote so once the app Is open you can use it sideways.

Just an fyi its not a good idea to distribute roms , because now your hosting illegal content from your copy.com account. I know every one does it but I wouldn't "openly" host it.

Does this include ROMs? I was under the impression that it was merely a script to make the Fire TV remote work with certain Nintendo emulators.
EDIT: Never mind, I just saw the title. You do realize that what you are distributing could get you into trouble?
Thanks
So this would work with the Fire Stick and FS Remote as well?
Script not working for me. Stuck at 'System cannot find the batch label specified - color'. Also can we replace the kodi apk version to 16 before running the script?

Here’s how to Install Kodi on Firestick:
1- Plug the Amazon Fire Stick into your television
2- Now access Settings, select System and tap on Developer Options
3- From Developer Options, enable all three options namely ADB debugging, USB debugging and Apps from Unknown Sources
4- Now, from the top of Fire TV screen, tap on the search box, type ES File Explorer and hit enter
5- Next, Install ES File Explorer that is displayed with a blue icon
6- Once the installation is completed, launch ES File Explorer and from top left corner of the screen click on add favorite
7- A new window will appear, type in http://kodi.tv
8- Click on Next; you will be asked to enter a name for favorite. Enter any name for e.g. kodi7
9- Finally, a confirmation window will appear displaying Add to favorite, proceed by clicking on Add
10- Now, from left menu pane, find the freshly created Kodi favorite and tap on it. You will see Kodi page on preview side, click on Downloads, as shown in picture below

I hope the above mention solution can be helpful to you for the proper installation of kodi on Fire TV or Firestick

Best way to allow 4k firestick to use kodi/iptv addons etc

I have an old Gen 1 firestick that has latest kodi on it and an iptv service as well as some other addons, and all works fine allbeit slow sometimes, so i upgraded to the latest and great 4k version with all it's audio spying gumf, however if i remember rightly there was a "fair" bit involved in getting to the stage to allow kodi to go on and run the add ons, is this still the case with the 4k version because all the links i have seen point to something called "Aptoide TV and this seem to allow you to run kodi and stuff like that but it also seems a gateway to other add ons and i don't want that i just to root/jailbreak the stick throw kodi on and install the addons i know i like or just instal kodi and away you go which in my simple mind means no jailbreaking is needed is it that simple nowadays?
Aptoide is just a 3rd party app store
There's two ways you can get any app onto a firestick that I use
1 - adb via pc
2 - adb via app on phone
If using option one download app to pc & also get adb set up (there's loads of guides about adb so Google that)
Enable adb on the firestick in dev options
Note down the ip address of the firestick from about device section
In a command prompt on pc type
adb connect ip_of_firestick
adb devices
adb install nameofapp.apk
For option two
Download app to phone
Download apps2fire from playstore
Enable adb on firestick in dev options
Note down firestick ip addres
Enter firestick ip address in apps2fire settings
Select arrow at top to install app
Navigate to where apk is
Note that apps2fire may fail on first connection - just connect again & it should work

FIX YOUR APP SYNC! Smartwatch 3 is not dead yet!

OK guys your watch will still work with many Wear OS apps but apps won't sync up with your phone any more. The problem is that the version of Google Play Services on your watch is way out of date.
The solution is you need to sideload a newer version of google play services and then like magic all your apps that can still work with Wear OS 1.5 will work again.
You need to download and install adb fastboot on your PC, and the USB drivers for your particular model of phone. Then go to apkmirror and download the latest version of "Google Play Services (Wear OS)" as an APK.
Now put your Smartwatch into developer mode by going to settings --> about --> build number (click it 7 times, congrats you are now a developer)
Now go to Settings --> Developer Options --> ADB Debugging (enable) and Bluetooth debugging (enable)
Back on your phone, Wear OS App --> Advanced Settings --> Debugging over bluetooth (enable)
Enable Developer options on your phone as well through settings --> About --> Software info --> Build number seven times. Enable USB debugging.
Plug phone into PC with usb and open a command prompt in the directory where you've installed the adb files
Code:
ADB devices
should show your phone unauthorized. Authorize it on the phone popup prompt. Now the command should show your phone as "device"
Code:
adb forward tcp:6666 localabstract:/adb-hub
adb connect localhost:6666
On your watch, authorize the connection
On your phone, Wear OS app, Advanced settings, you should see Host: connected and Target:connected
If you get into trouble, run
Code:
adb kill-server
and try again.
Now you can install the apk
Code:
adb -e install -r (path to apk)
it will take a long while and may appear to hang. Give it time, at least 15 minutes. Go do something else. Wait for the command prompt to come back.
Now reboot your watch and revel in the magic as your apps suddenly reappear.
You also try sideloading other apps your mileage may vary. On APK mirror you can sometimes find older verions of Wear OS apps, look for ones that require Android 6.0+ Instead of 7.1.+
FYI I've tried sideloading several apps, and while many don't work properly, I was able to get Maps working by sideloading
com.google.android.apps.maps_10.35.2-1035250000_minAPI23(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
Hi,
Thanks for this =)
Is there a reason to push the app through the phone instead of directly to watch?
EDIT: just do the same but directly connect the watch through USB worked well for me, including installing more apps like GMaps and Messages.
EDIT2: Just did this, so people could find this workaround faster =) https://support.google.com/wearos/thread/55427445

Weird, I can't access this page using Private Navigation, you may need to be connected to your google account to access it ?
Also, it may not be published yet.

Unfortunately, I don't use an account by Google. Would you mind quoting your solution here?
Hey first of all, thank you to bring me a light to follow,
I can confirm that if you use usb is more quickly, just I have:
1: installed "15 seconnds adb installer v1.4.3" found on this forum
2: Plug my smartwatch 3 on my pc (windows 10)
3: downloaded the most recent google play services (wear os) from apk mirror
4: rename the downloaded apk with a shorter name
5: placed the apk on C: and then open a power shell window in that location (****f+right click)
6: put this command adb install -r -g aplicationname.apk
7: wait 5 minutes
8: enjoy

Hi people,
I own a sony smartwatch 3, got some problems about sync multiple times. I always found simples workarounds but some days ago, Google dropped support for wear 1.5 devices.
I consider this as an official announcement:
https://support.google.com/wearos/thread/5538033?hl=en
Therefore, we have a "workaround" for those that need more time to buy another smartwatch or else.

# Download the latest GService for Wear OS
Using apkmirror website you can find the latest apk for "Google Play Services (Wear OS)",
This link will give you the page of GService v20.21.17 which is the latest available on 2020-06-25.
You must ensure 2 things:
- Is it the latest version
- Is it compatible with Android 6.0+ (as it's the wear android version, 7.0+ and above will not work)
You can also download other apks to install, see the "More" section at the bottom of this post.
Soon or later, Google will definitely drop android 6.0. When this will happen, the latest version will not be available anymore for android 6.0+, therefore it will be the end.
# Download/Install adb debugging tools on your computer
There are multiple ways to install the adb debugging tool, I recommend following the steps you'll find on XDA website: https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/
Available for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
# Enable ADB Debugging options on your watch
Enable developer mode by going to
Settings --> about --> build number (click it 7 times, congrats you are now a developer)
Now go to Settings --> Developer Options --> ADB Debugging (enable)
Then open and keep the command line window (aka "terminal")
# Connect your watch to your computer
Then using the terminal, type "adb devices", after a moment, you should get a prompt asking for debugging permission on your watch: accept.
In the terminal, you should now see something like "14452D11F536B52 device" when typing "adb devices" again.
If you see "unauthorized" or else, you're not ready for the next step, go back and try again.
If you struggle at this step, you may need specific drivers or else for your watch, google will be your best friend at this point.
# Send the app to your watch
In the terminal, type "adb install -r path_to_the_apk_file", replace path_to_the_apk_file by the path to the file you download from apkmirror earlier.
Then wait, the installation can take several minutes. Once it's done, restart your watch and you should see the apps beginning to synchronize themself =)
----
If you're new to the command-line tool (aka "terminal"), I'll assume you're a window user.
So you may need to type something like "adb install -r C:/Users/Robert/Downloads/file_downloaded.apk", again, you'll have to replace Robert by your windows username and file_downloaded.apk by the name of the file you downloaded earlier.
The best way to get this line right: open the file explorer, click "This computer" in the sidebar, then click on your main hard drive, then the folder "Users". Here you should see a folder with your username, click on it, then go through folders & files until you see the downloaded file. Once it's done, you should be able to get the full pathname by click in the explorer address bar (didn't understand ? See https://winaero.com/blog/show-full-path-address-bar-windows-10-file-explorer/ ) then at this point you should know how to execute the last command by reading again the last step "Send the app to your watch"
----
# More
You can follow this step and install any apk you want, but I don't recommend installing apk not made for Wear OS even if it works
More apps installable this way on your watch if you don't want to wait for app sync:
- Google Messages (SMS), latest is v6.1.095 on 2020-06-25
- Google Maps, latest is v10.35.2 (android 6.0+) on 2020-06-25
The GMaps is a good example about obsolete versions: on 2020-06-25, the real latest available is v10.43.2, but it's android 7.0+ only, so don't expect GMaps to work indefinitely for your watch, it will stop working soon or later.
# Say thanks
Please, if you can click upvote or post an answer: it will help people with the same problem find this
Thanks for posting a simplified process.
I only used Bluetooth because I have other Wear OS watches that don't work over cable connect, so it's the way I am familiar with. I like to use different watches depending upon activity and mood. The Smartwatch 3 is a great watch for outdoor activities because it is sleek, waterproof, and very sunlight visible.

Thank you very much!!!!
You saved my watch!
Hi. In the link to install the adb debugging tool, I can only get as far step 6 connecting my phone. When i type 'adb devices' in the command prompt it says -
* daemon not running; starting now at tcp:5037
* daemon started successfully
List of devices attached
Nothing appear on my phone as per the step 7 "On your phone’s screen, you should see a prompt to allow or deny USB Debugging access"
Can anyone help?
@MrFleas
1) go again on EVERY.SINGLE.STEP this may feel dumb to do but it could help
2) if it does not work, try googling for swr50 USB drivers, you may need to download Android SDK and drivers - then reboot - then start again at step one
3) come back here to thanks or asking for more help

Hi people, just realized we can also download the sony app to our phones (directly from phone or by using adb like on watch) so we can edit stock watch faces again =)
Here's the app to download to the phone: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/sony-...ditor-2-0-0-20-android-apk-download/download/
Once installed, to edit watch faces, go to wear app, the edit watch faces =)
Seems like the same issue...
My hardly used smart watch is ALIVE again!
Thanks a lot guys!
I have latest but sync not working :/ i have a question is possibile install app with higher api or change apk API level ?
check the play service on your phone and install exactly the same version of the wear app
then it works
Cheers for doing this! Got my old smartwatch working cause of that. If anyone else reading this has issues at the' ADB device' point, and is using a linux based system, remember to use sudo on the commands -as otherwise i found that it would not enable the prompt to let me 'authorise' the device in order to send the apk to the watch.
Question- given that google have disabled the onboard step counter function on wear 1.5 devices (like this one), can we sideload a fitness apk via adb with this method that will then sync to our phones?

Hi, I've got the same issue. I had to change my phone. I've installed the same version of google play services on the watch with the description in this threat. But the phone is still not syncing the apps to the watch. Is there anything more I can do to trigger the sync (already triggered 'resync all app in Wear OS' without effect).
You might try to go Settings-Permissions on the watch and set the Permissions for your app. Sometimes I have got this to make the app work, when it is already installed on the watch but not working.
It works! I first downloaded this version of Wear OS for my phone:
Wear 2.43, the newest one somehow broke the sync for me.
By using ADB with " ADB install -r "I installed the last working Google Play Services for my Watch and also the last available version of Google Fit for Android 6.
Play Services : Play Services Wear OS - 20.45.16
Google fit : Google Fit - 2.10.36
