Fix for lag/delay when hitting multitasking capacitive button - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure if someone else already posted but I figured I would share what I found. YMMV
If you're experiencing a delay in response when hitting the multitasking(recent) capacitive button (the one that's to the left of your home button) I may have found a way to speed it up.
In settings > accessibility > dexterity and interaction > touch and hold delay
Change it to custom. When you customize it take your finger off as soon as it turns green. Faster is better.
It seems to have done the trick for me. Let me know if works for you.

Thanks for the tip. Never would of thought to try that!!

Seemed to have helped a little bit, still some lag though. Thanks!

Improved mine a lot. It's instantaneous now. Thanks so much. That use to bug the cap out of me

I resume this fix will not change the long press for settings?

I wonder if this will help me with poweramp when putting phone in my pocket moving my song to the end of it.
Because of sensitvity. Thanks

I think you guys are experiencing the placebo effect, this setting has nothing to do with a regular press. I've timed it on a few different Note 4s and it does not increase the speed.

I've also experimented with changing the delay between custom, 0.5, and 1.5 seconds. It doesn't change the multitask window delay for me.

I messed around with the delay times as well and as you said, it didn't change it at all.

I missed having the settings capacitive button on my note 2. Did not know I just had to hold the recent apps button! Thanks!

Hmm. I wonder if it has anything to do with the launcher that is used. I'm using Nova.
Maybe others who are not experiencing the speed improvement are on a different launcher?
I have no idea why it worked for me and not everyone.

Lol, neither did I! The threads for this one is great. They actually changed a ton with this phone, and to a certain extent it's like starting all over again.. Lol, kind of exciting!

Doesn't work. Must be a placebo. No noticeable difference. Tried on 3 devices.
Sent from my SM-N910V using XDA Free mobile app

placebo or not, it seemed to work for me. thanks!

I'm really not sure what lag there was to begin with when pressing the recent apps key.

Disable the TalkBack service from Application manager, and it will be fast as 0.5 seconds.

The setting didn't change multi task button at all.
I know others have said this but I started typing this before I realized there were so many others saying the same thing.

It works very good here, thanks mate !

Its not horrible....it is just that the phone needs to see if your gonna double tap or not....which in this case it waits an extra millisecond to function home...

Bingo.
This was suggested before in the sensitivity bug thread. Tried it myself, doesn't do diddly squat, my pressure measurements in the development settings still read in the .40s.

isn't it only for Samsung Galax S up to Android 2.3.x.?
I tried it, set the sensitivity to 0.28 and the time to register a tap to 1 , and the UI really was quicker, overall it was alot snappier, it's not just a placebo... although , i the press values remained the same according to pointer location from developer's settings...
I lowered the sensitivity to 0.26 and managed to get a 0.27 press value, never succeeded before to go under 0.28. Anyways , with lower values than 0.28 and with quick swiping the ui starts to stutter.. not to mention even though the UI felt snapier on 0.28 + register tap 1 , but the sensitivity drop was bigger, and it needs now even harder press..so i ended up uninstalling the app...
I really hate the "recent apps" bug, the sensitivity drops, it's driving me crazy

For press values I wasn't able to get under 28 before or after applying the "Fix". Will keep using it over the day to see if I notice any difference.

Remapping the home button

Ive been trying to make my home button function the same as the power button. First I made a nandroid and rebooted andthen went here--> System/usr/keylayout/generic.kl and changedkey# whatever-said-home to say POWER. rebooted and it didn't work, it worked just like normal. Then I went back and changed every key that said home to power anywhere in the keylayout directories and still, it works like normal! Any advice or knowledge to help me solve this puzzle?
Thanks!

I'm on an aokp build BTW and I tried the button remapping app as well. Stubborn button =
Sent from my Kangadore 64
Well for starters, did you reboot?
There should be a thread in one of the US variants forums that tells you about the key layouts.
Theres also an app that will give you info on what button you just pushed.
Been a while so cant remember the name and dont know if itll be compatible, but maybe someone else does and will chime in.

I've rebooted with every change. I tried theapp that tells you what button you pushed but it doesn't show what the power or home buttons key in as, its in the FAQ of the app I don't know what the issue is, I can change other buttons around but this one refuses to cooperate.

You have to edit the sec-keys.kl file to whatever you want then reboot. Generic.kl only takes effect if sec-keys.kl isn't there. So edit sec-keys.kl then reboot and you should be golden

@OP....
Got a better idea. Download apex launcher, and download screen off and lock.....
Open apex settings, behavior settings, home button...
Have it launch screen off and lock when pressed. Your phone will now turn off when you press the home button from your home screen.

all they did was change what function the home button does. Look at a few posts up to see the file they changed and it's quite self explanatory, you will see a list of four buttons and their default assignments. Then you can either disable one by putting a # in front of the entire line or change them to say make the home function as a camera button.

Features I have discovered in the Optimus UI

This is my first time I have used an Optimus UI phone, so everyday I'm discovering cool new features that are actually pretty usefully. I thought it would be cool if we could share these findings. I'll start...
Quick remote will pop up on the lockscreen by tapping the home button. F#####G brilliant! I owned the HTC One and S4 they both have the IR blaster that allows the control over the TV. But no quick way to access it on the lock screen.
Ohhhhhhhh...thats why the quick remote shows up in my lock screen even tho i didnt set it to be there, i thought something is wrong with my lockscreen lol, didnt know that i just keep pressibng the home button lol, thanks!!

You can take screenshots by holding Volume Down and Power at the same time for a couple of seconds. No need to use quickmemo for screenies.
I'm not sure if this is a new feature or old...
You can schedule a sms...

In the quick remote app, when you add a new device, try answering no to some of the questions even if the buttons work. I discovered different remote layouts that still are completely functional. You might discover extra buttons that aren't available on the first profile it finds for you.
Fwiw, this worked for me on my air conditioner
Small thing...you can pinch zoom the songs list in the default music app

[Solved] No Menu Button Issues - Updated first post

-----EDIT-----
Figured it out, and updating the first post to help other out.
Seems I have found an answer from the s5... Long pressing the app switch butting gets you the menu in any app.
----Original Post----
So, after only a few hours of use i have found a very big issue.
No menu button means some apps are useless.
I cant even reply to topics from the XDA app, and cant change setting from others apps expecting to have a menu button on the phone. What was Samsung thinking?
I may need to return this phone if i cant find a solution. Anyone have any ideas?

The one to the left of the home button.
I don' mean no harm, but there's absolutely NO excuse for a Note 4 owner and someone who went out of their way to become an XDA member, to be so ignorant when it comes to something this simple. I don't even have my Note 4, yet, and I could school you up and down on it. There's dozens of videos online at your disposal, to tell you what features are found on your phone. Just looking at any one of them ... and as already mentioned ... you would have found out that long-pressing the recent apps button activates the menu. It's really quite simple.
Or tap the 3 dots at top right ...

There are a lot of people who are coming from a device that did not have the recent apps button and is not aware that you can long press it to get the menu button...especially on a device that has only been out for a day or so.

Just ignore him man, not even worth feeding his immaturity.
Anyways, Thanks for the tip about the xda app as well.
Hope this thread helps others that are having that WTF moment when they first get the phone... You know, i cant remember but i don't think that first pop up tip says anything about long pressing for a menu. I could be wrong and have just hit ok after reading the title.
Don't sweat the little stuff... I asked a while ago about getting air command to pop up. Once you are used to a device that is very, very close to the device you just bought... well, you may not realize the little changes. In my case the older Note I had you held the button on the s-pen while hovering to bring up the air command menu. On the Note 4 all you have to do is hover then click (not hold). Stumped me for over an hour.. until I posted and asked.
Coming from an iPhone forces people to do more reading and learn everything.
