Cyanogenmod camera - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been wanting to install CM for a while now, but after looking around it seems that the camera related stuff is very dependant on some proprietary stuff so it tends to freeze on CM and cause the phone to reboot - does that happen very often? I believe it should be stable on milestone versions, but I just want to double check.

Well I'm not sure what you have been reading but the camera issue does not force the phone to reboot. You do however have to rebooted yourself if it fails to connect.
However there is a fix/workaround on Google play, just remember to follow instructions or it wont work...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.billgbennett.camerafix&hl=en_GB
I use Google Camera (As I like photosphere) and whenever I get the "cant connect" issue I use this and it launches fine

Yes, that's what I meant, good to hear it's sorted.
Am I right in thinking that CM based on Lollipop is several months away? I thought about waiting but if that's the case then I think I'll go with CM11.

Could be yes but you will likely see other nice AOSP based roms before then.

Try version 4 of this fix for cm. After flashing i had "can't connect" error completely gone.
Still i find photo quality much worse than stock rom.

Yeah, what i mean is camera on non-stock roms is just way worse, afaik it's driver related problem.

Installing Google Edition Camera

I don't believe this has been posted yet, so hopefully I can help people out with this thread. Also I'm not sure if this belongs in the "Verizon HTC One Themes & Apps" section or not, because it's not specific to the VZW One. So please don't flame
We can install the stock camera from the Google Edition phones on our HTC One. It does not replace the HTC camera, it installs alongside it, so we can use both. It also includes the stock "gallery" app.
The camera app includes Google's "photosphere" which is pretty neat.
No root required. Just download and install. If for some reason you skip install, the download of course can be found in the "downloads" app on your phone.
http://www.adrive.com/public/EtV5jj/com.google.android.gallery3d.apk (not my link, credit goes to nexus0 for this link)
EDIT If photosphere doesn't work good with that .apk, try this one. I'm not sure if it makes any difference but it worked alright for me from this link: http://goo.gl/02po9 Although from reading about other users experience, photosphere is hard to get to look perfect
I have played around with this camera and so far so good. I'm not going to say it eliminates the tint problems but I haven't noticed tint problems in any of the pictures I've taken with it. However, I haven't had major tint problems to begin with.

I installed this APK a few weeks ago and it had stitching problems then. Same thing now. Is there an apk out that actually stitches the photosphere together properly? Mine looks like Picasso took the pictures!
I actually like the gallery from this app way better than the HTC one...

I am not finding HDR in the GPe camera app. Not that it matters, I'm going to keep it for the gallery and use the HTC camera app I think, unless I decide I want photosphere. But am I just missing something?
Sorry for the newb question but how do you install a .apk file. Thanks.

2 ways I do it. Either download the file right from your phone and once it's done, tap the download in the notification bar and it should go to the install process
OR
Upload the file from your computer to dropbox, and then go to the dropbox app on your phone, tap the .apk file and it should take you to the install process.

Parsing error has nothing to do with unknown sources. I'm sure it's to do with Android version. Try installing a ICS app on GB and you get parsing errors

No idea. I just know it's nothing to do with the Unknown Sources option. Only time I've bumped into parsing errors is when I've tried to install a ICS app on GB
1. API greater than minSdkVersion (defined in AndroidManifest.xml) i.e. Package is compiled on higher API level but using on lower API
2. code Name of the package is changed after signing: Use the exact name as the signed package is (instead of renaming the name in Manifest)
3. executed from SD-card than execute from phones memory.
Possible problems

Do we know what is actually causing the tint issues? I don't notice the tint in my pics but the standard "place your hand over the lense and if it stays black you're good. Purple/red/blue color variations means it's jank" test fails. I get the color variations. Is it software that can be fixed with a patch or hardware?
Thanks

Stagefright and the HTC One M8

We all know of the Stagefright exploit (and the patch that SEEMINGLY fixed it even though its still vulnerable). A lot of AOSP based roms have placed a patch inside of their firmware, and some manufacturers have sent software updates to their devices (the M8 and M9 rumored to get the update this month) What I'm trying to ask is, would it possibly be safer to go S-OFF and get an AOSP-based ROM or stay on stock Sense and wait for the August update, of which we do not know that it will solve the problem entirely? I used the Stagefright detector for Stock S-On on my M8 and it was vulnerable to every bug except one.

The option which is better is the one you choose ! If YOU think it's better to switch to a rom with the stagefright patch than do it. I am on a custom rom without the patch and turned off mms auto retrieve options. Enough for me. I think it's also a bit blown up by the media. If a similar situation was happening like 15 years ago we wouldn't even know about it like we do now. Media and especially social media is very aggressive in these situations.
Cheers

Stagefright works through SMS/MMS on Hangouts. Go to your Hangouts settings and turn off "Auto Retrieve MMS" and only download them from people you trust. Problem solved.
ok...i'm not using Hangouts...is deleted from my phone...cool
auto retrieve mms is only one vector of attack. you'll still need the patch. as far as I can tell, htc will be releasing the patch this week.

Also the most likely vector. I've seen some discussions on XDA that any app that uses the Stagefright api is vulnerable, such as video players. But how would such an attack be triggered, if not by a message? I'm not just asking to be critical, but as a legit question; as I'm not a developer, so such an attack may well be possible for all I know.
The solution to turn off auto-retrieve is a good idea, until the OS is patched. Its certainly better than doing nothing.

Are you using 4.3.3 or 4.4.0? I'm using MIUI 7 by xiaomi.eu, and all camera apps can't connect to camera.
I'm not sure about it, as I manually put files in system and added the persist.camer.HAL3.enabled=1 to build.prop.
But I guess the system/etc/msm_8998.xml could be different from 5

That's not the build.prop issue. I kept that line and it's still working. Just delete system/etc/msm8996_camera.xml before flashing and it's working.
msm8996_camera.xml contains the string imx 298, which apparently indicates it's only for Mi 5

Thanks ! Works well with new 4.4.0.
Currently I found that this app is usefull only for X-HDR mode. Photos is really closed to Stock Miui App quality.
However, panorama photos are very ugly, Ubi focus doesn't work, etc...
But it's a good improvement for our device.

I usually use 3rd party camera apps. There are mods like https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5s/development/mi-5s-camera-2-api-fix-t3622901 and https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5s/development/light-patch-t3616788 which might make los have better libraries (drivers) than stock . I wonder when using 3rd cameras, if los is a better choice. Los (cm) usually lacks some functions compared with stock rom(miui), but it seems now more people prefer los. I was thinking moving to los, but I like the back up apps in miui, and I don't know if everything's working on los
4.4 0 keeps crashing, I now installed 4.1 which works pretty good. Is there a post which explains the various features? I dont know what "X-HDR" is, for example. Also, what settings do you use?

Just look in Apps, you just need to install.APK and give permissions.
Google dialer does not have this option. I love proximity speaker as well. Hopefully we start getting more roms, like purefusion that integrate this feature into the dialer

For the size of icons, you may try changing developer option\ smallest width from stocked 360 to 390 or 395. This can shrink them somewhat.
