New user, need help unlocking my s3 Rogers to Telus. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys I am new here. I tried unlocking my s3 via the UMTS/Network lock method but it wont work since my phone is on Android Version 4.3
How can I use Odin to unlock my s3 for use with Telus? I don't care about tripping knox as it's a hand me down and doubt It has any warranty or anything left.

You will have no choice but to unlock the phone via unlock code. Using Odin is not going to allow you to downgrade and unlock.

Gotcha, looks like I'm gonna have to pay someone for an unlock code. What are some good reputable places?

I would look for someone on ebay with a good price and good feedback. That's what I did for my Note 3 and Motorola.

I used the following thread a couple of years ago and have been switching between Rogers and Telus sims without any issues. Phone was originally Telus locked. This worked on 4.1.1, not sure if it will work on later versions of Android?

PMd you the link. Let me know if it worked, I'm curious if it's still a valid method.

Using the 4.1.1 method on a phone with a 4.3 or newer bootloader may hard brick the phone.

Need to load stock firmware/carrier unlock my old rooted S III without a working USB

Hi,
I am in a very peculiar situation and will appreciate any help I can get.
I have an old working rooted S III phone (BASEBAND version I747UCUEMJB) (CM11-20150831-SNAPSHOT-XNG3CAO3FN-d2lte with android version 4.4.4) that I am trying to unlock (its bootloader locked by AT&T) so that it can be used with other carriers. My problem is that the usb port of my phone does not work anymore. I use a wireless Qi charger to charge the phone. Sometime ago I received the unlock code from AT&T for the phone but when I tried the code, the phone did not accept it (said something like invalid code) I then had AT&T re-check the code and tried a second time.
I read somewhere on this forum that sometimes phones do not unlock if they have been rooted and have a different Rom that the stock Rom. So I am trying to find a way to install the stock rom back into my phone to unlock the bootloader. I also remember hearing sometime ago that if you try the wrong code more than 3 times the phone will get permanently locked so did not try more than twice.
I would appreciate any suggestions or help to fix this issue.
Thanks,
Matt
First thing: do not flash anything that tries to unlock the phone's bootloader as this will hard brick the phone. The phone does not have a locked bootloader.
You need to install a stock ROM in order to sim unlock the phone using the code provided by ATT.
Before flashing anything, you should confirm that the phone is running an MJB bootloader too.
AMEN !!
AGAIN ; that was my 1st (& only , so far) brick. by trying to unlock an unlocked bootloader.

Thanks for your reply audit13. I too felt it may do more harm than good if I try anything without asking here since its an old phone without a working USB and I am not certain as to what are my options. So as per you I should first make sure the bootloader is locked (I thought if inserting other company sim I get the message for a unlock code that automatically means locked bootloader) can you please give some details on point me in the right direction on how to find if "the phone is running an MJB bootloader" and the bootloader is indeed locked.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi audit13, going back to the about device I think I see what you wanted my to check first. Please see the attached screenshots looks like I have the MJB bootloader
A locked bootloader and sim lock are two different things. You can have one without the other and one doesn't affect the other.
---------- Post added at 09:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:55 AM ----------
Install the Samsung phone info app to determine the bootloader. I am seeing mjb under baseband. Baseband and bootloader are two different things. You can have an mjb baseband without an mjb bootloader.
Since you are running a CM, or CM based ROM, you could use a command in terminal emulator to determine bootloader. CM comes with the Terminal Emulator app baked into the ROM, I don't believe I had to install it on my SGS3 w/ CM11. Also, TWRP has a terminal emulator available under the Advanced Tab. The command is:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader

I was able to find the samsung app on app store attached please find the screenshots
You could try flashing a touch wiz rom to your phone to enter the unlock code. Do not flash anything that tries to change your bootloader of baseband.

Thanks for your response audit13 and sorry for the late reply. I will try the ROM you have recommended and post the results. Just a couple of questions: should I follow the same process of putting a different company sim and entering the unlock code as before after loading this rom?
And secondly what makes this ROM special as compared to CM that the phone will accept the unlock code?
Thanks,
Matt
The sim can be inserted before or after flashing the rom.
The rom I linked is a custom rom that is based on a stock Samsung kernel with a Samsung phone dialler. CM ROMs are based on a cm kernel and Google or aosp dialler.
Thanks audit13 I was able to successfully unlock the phone dialer and then continued to upgrade the bootloader and the modem versions to UCUFNJ1. I am stuck in a new problem of rooting the phone without odin. but I do appreciate your help with soling my original problem.

If you want root, you could flash supersu.zip from your custom recovery.

This is the thread I used but you have to be S-Off to do it.

I also tried the method you speak of by getting a new token to unlock your phone and it did not work for me either. But, if you S-off your phone and have SuperUser access, use the method in the thread I recommend. You will be able to lock and re-lock at will. If you haven't S-off'd your phone the best method is Sunshine. It cost 25.00 I believe, but it is well worth it.

is this real? Verizon S8+ Root

Please use search before you start useless threads. You have found info about CF Auto Root from Chainfire. It will only work with an unlocked bootloader and the US Snapdragon versions of the S8 and S8+ have a locked bootloader. So it will not work. There are several thread about this and a post from Chainfire himself stating on US versions it will not work.
No, CF-Auto requires unlocked bootloader. The only reason files for devices that are locked down is because the site runs automated scripts to generate root files. So it'll work if and once the bootloader is unlocked. But for now, both will not work.
thanks for letting me know
Update on unlocking bootloader?
Wondering if anyone has any information on whether or not there has been any progress on unlocking the bootloader for the US versions of the g955u <snapdragon> yet? I know that the new unlocked versions of the phones came out recently and was wondering if anyone had a crack yet?

I believe those are carrier unlocked; NOT Boot Loader Unlocked.
I had a feeling I was buying the wrong version of S8 plus, is that why OEM is no longer in developer options?

How to re-Lock the "Bootloader"/"Locking" the Phone back to stock?

How to re-Lock the "Bootloader"/"Locking" the Phone back to stock?
Hello Nextbit Community!
I purchased a Nextbit Robin from a seller about a year ago and it shipped unlocked (every time you turn it on/restart it there's a black caution screen that states the device has been tampered with and it is unlocked), the phone boots up fine after the warning and I like the phone so far, bought it because i wanted a decently powerful phone for a budget that i can use on my carrier network Metro PCS (T-Mobile). Since I got the sim and activated it works fine but I want to use G Pay and other NFC services that require that phone wasn't "tampered" with. I'm a little confused on how to do this successfully and correctly. Is there a way to "re-lock/Lock the phone?. Does it interfere with my sim/data/cell service? will it wipe everything on the phone?
There is a lot of confusing info out there on how in great concise detail.
Basically I'm asking for some help on doing this because I really want enable G Pay, Can anyone give me me a super detailed and technical step-by-step on how to do this SAFETY without bricking my phone? Which "ADB" should I use? What do i need beside the stock image (N 7.1.1) and the USB driver? Any other programs? I'd really appreciate it thanks a bunch!
Do you still have this problem? Or you solved this?
need qfil files

ADB>fastboot oem lock
Just flash the stock rom it will delete TWRP and the unlock iirc

SM-A505U1

I've been told that this variant is "hard-locked" and it's impossible for it to be rooted without unlocking the bootloader. I was also told this with my sm-g900v and it finally got unlocked. So I was wondering if any developers have this phone and know how to switch "CSC" codes similar to how the "SM-G900V" was officially unlocked by switching it to a developer phone.
Can someone tell me if the magisk root method works on the A505U1 stock firmware? I don't want to risk bricking.
I have the same a50 Sm-A505u1, I dont know if they have oem unlock implemented into the developer options yet, hopefully within a few more updates they will add the option to unlock the bootloader.

Switching the CSC won't add the toggle because the model number is encrypted into the phone's processor.
Yeah you would probably have to do individual work on each locked variant depending on firmware. Even then it's a longshot to get any exploits to actually work, seeing how this phone doesn't have a removable battery I can only imagine the hard bricking risk. On my S5 I always backed up all my partitions on an SD card but I had root on that phone to do that.

I know it's a little off topic but the system ui demo mode also doesn't work nor does the hidden menu. Hopefully a few updates will add more functionality to the phone.

I contacted samsung and they are saying that this phone cannot be oem unlocked, it sucks but I think after they are about to stop updating it they might add the toggle in the developer options.
Is the bootloader already unlocked since I bought the phone factory unlocked from Bestbuy. Could I root it now?
I'll leave this here; https://www.techmesto.com/how-to-check-android-bootloader-lock-status-from-fastboot/
