[Q] Touch functionality after a cracked screen - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
This thought came to my mind after I watched some drop tests of our beloved G3:
How is the touchscreen functionality after the screen glass is cracked? I know a lot of people with cracked iphones using their phones with no problems to the touch functionality, my older Galaxy S3 also had no problems with cracked screen, but for example when my Nexus 7 2012 randomly cracked, the whole square area of the crack was inactive to the touch.
So, has any of you had any experience with the touch responsiveness after screen has been cracked?

hi, mine broke after falling from pocket after 10 days.. it was one hairline crack in the top third of the screen and it said on the screen - error, lcd malfunction and it would work only if you pressed with finger on screen after 2 sec.. so it was practically only for answerin calls... so to answer the question... it cant practically operate after you break it...

this depends on what you break if it is just the lcd there will be very little problems but if you dammage the diggitalizer(the thing that detects touch input) touches won't work

[Q] Scratches on Vodafone touch pro2

well i m posting it at the behalf of my friend...well few days ago i was fedup wid winmo and want to get rid of it asap...so i sell my previous mobile touch pro 2 to my friend and got the milestone while selling my fone to it the screen was clean like new and i was using screen protector with it..after some days my friend called me saying that the mobile got scratches on the screen , i asked him about the protector he said that for some reason touch was not working so he pulled of the protector and touch was working and he start using at normal without using the protector he thought that its screen is like the iphone so if the scratches come screen it won't be that much visible but after few days that screen got more scratches and then he tried new protector it fits the screen without creating the bubbles but again touch screen stops working .. he pulled the protector and its working again....now he wants a conclusion of it
1st is that why touch screen stops working when applying the protector
2nd any way to clean the screen without changing the digitizer because i cant get new 1 in my country and if i order it online i can get new tp2 in my country at the price of just the digitizer
me and my friend searched alot and came to know about desplex and idropper and also came to know that it damages the tocuh
Please Help
Thanks
I had heard using 'Brasso' works well to get rid of scratches and am going to try it myself soon.
^^and do you know anything about touch screen protector ??
no, that has really confounded me. One thing I would do is to try a different brand. I cannot think how a protector can create a seemingly hardware problem.
well i will try some good protectors

[Q] cracked screen!?

Dropped my dinc yesterday cracked the screen something bad. Replacement phone is on the was but in the meantime I keep getting pieces of screen in my fingers. Is there any logic/way to remove the glass screen? or am i just stuck not to sure how the touch screen operates. Any ideas???
Try putting a screen protector on it. The glass is the digitizer that registers your touch input.

Awsome didn't think about that. Thanks

Glass cracked on my epic

the outer glass on brother's epic is cracked...if i was to remove the outer glass for him, will the screen still work...just wondering if anyone had any experience with that...Everything on the phone currently works but he doesn't want to deal with a cracked screen while messing with his phone.
Does he have TEP? Insurance would cover it I'm sure. I would suggest not to open it and attempt to fix it.

this will NOT work.. The whole screen needs to be replace..
If you have no outer glass you will not be able to use the touch screen feature... so that will blow, and the display screen below the touch sensitive glass is probably very sensitive and will most likely break if you touch it and mess with it, so my advice is don't mess with it man

[Q] LG Optimus G E972 screen repair help

I am new to android phones, been a die-hard blackberry user. Recently decided to try something new so my wife and I both got the new LG Optimus G E971 (rogers canada). We have both had our phones for less than 3 weeks and we have both succeeded in severely cracking our screens. Both less than 15 inch drops on carpet floor.
I cant seem to track down any parts for the 971. I can only find replacement screens for the 970 and the 973. I am wondering if anybody here knows if they are interchangeable? Can I use the screens from a 970/973 on my 971? I ask because my brother cracked his Iphone 3 screen and tried to use and screen from an Iphone 3S and they were not compatible.
Any help would be appreciated
I have the same problem too

Yes unfortunately both of ours cracked to the point of being un-useable
PS. I appologize about the topic title. says e972 instead of e971
Hey so I have same problem, but my digitizer is severely cracked LCD is fine. Just wondering if I can just replace the digitizer only, as I have seen so many parts supplier selling the digitizer and LCD separately. I know it's just so much easier just to get the whole screen assembly, but looking to save where I can...
Any advice greatly appreciated..
LG says Optimus G doesnt have a digitizer. Well, actually it has one, but its build-in into LCD, so its not an additional layer you can replace.
Also the gorilla (Front glass) is laminated over LCD, which in 95% cases impossible to do by yourself at home.
My screen cracked about 1.5" from the bottom. I couldn't use any of the soft touch buttons, which made the phone virtually unusuable. I sent it away to LG via a Sasktel reseller. They just quoted the repair at $95, which is much much cheaper than I was expecting. I get it back next week
I care for my LG OG a lot, though suddenly i notice there is a small scratch on the screen, I dont understand how and when this happened + this is Gorrilla glass II we are talking about !! My friend had this nokia N8 fall over the sharp edge of the stairs-screen down, and it had '0' scratches !! I'm very disappointed, after being so much careful, despite the Gorilla glass protection it still manages to get scratched, and I never dropped it ever !!??

To take what a guy named Tim4 on the forums said :
'' It can be easily scratched with any thing which has lvl6 or higher (Cause gorilla is level 6) of the Mohs hardness scale.
In other words, you cant scratch it with keys (Level 2 to 4) in pocket, but a sand on beach (Level 7-9) will do it in few moments.)
this explain alot check out Mohs hardness scale on wiki
Thanks for the heads up !!

[Q] Cracked screen and usage

Hi everyone. I have learned a lot from the forums over the years and have been on here since my very first android device (by way of introduction, I don't think I have ever posted). I did use the search and found threads talking about replacing broken screens on the 10.1 2014 but none addressed my actual question.
I found my device with a hairline crack in the lower portion of the screen, running from just to the right of the back button to about an inch and a half to two inches up the right side of the device. I have seen that the screen is glued on the edges and that the digitizer is not completely glued to the LCD. However, I have too much dust and cat hair and stuff around to be sure of getting a completely clean replacement job done.
Since the crack seems to be complete, edge to edge, and I do have the tablet in an otterbox case to reduce flexing, should it be fine for use until the price of the LCD/Glass combo comes down in price? So far, running my finger and stylus over the area there seems to be no reduction in function, and the LCD underneath is completely intact. I have a screen protector over the screen, so I cannot even feel the crack. (In case anyone was curious how it happened in an otterbox, I was overconfident and threw it into my purse without the screen shield on it, and something in my purse pressed on the edge of the screen)
I saw a lot of talk about replacing the screen, but no comments on anyone continuing to use the device with a crack in it. Thanks for reading, I know I can be long winded.
@noxdrako I don't see why not. Majority of the time when a display cracks its only the outer parts and internel parts remain untouched. My brother has been using his cracked Blackberry tablet for ages and I have a friend who has been using his S3 which has a hairline crack along the screen for well over a year with no issues.

Thanks for the reply. I have been using it with some tlc till i can afford to have it repaired. After I repair i am thinking of putting a tempered glass protector on it.
