Hello all,
I flashed and rooted my SGIII about 6 months back using these threads

Everything was running fine until Saturday, I noticed my phone kept shutting off in my pocket. Once i got home and started doing diagnostics, i couldn't really tell what caused it, i uninstalled the realtor.com app i had downloaded Saturday during the day just in case and wiped the cache of a bunch of apps I had before the problem started. The problem still exists, the phone will randomly flicker 3 or 4 times, the shutdown menu shows up then goes away, then it turns off and i have to boot it back up manually.
Anyone else had this issue?
It seems as though these threads come pretty frequently here lately, I am going to suggest a power button, it is a fairly common failure. On a good working phone if you push and hold the power button for 10 seconds it will turn the phone off, but not before popping up the power/reset menu.
Good luck hope you get it fixed quickly and perhaps I'm wrong?

Starting to think this is hardware related, i did a complete factory reset and same issue occurred. Now I have to take it back to stock and see if I have a case for a replacement.
Since i updated and rooted as I did, am I screwed?
now it seems to be soft bricked.. this is fun
Did you ever install the 4.3 OTA update on your phone? If not, you should be able to flash back to rooted stock, install and run Triangle away, flash back to non-rooted stock, and you should be fine.

Yea I did, I'm currently searching how to do this process post-4.3 update
update: so i can get into TWRP just fine, cannot reflash 4.3 update, getting an error no MD5 file found, and "assert failed: apply_patch_check ("system/app/Bo.. it cuts off from there.. then says E:Error executing updater binary in zip
if i reboot it just hangs at the ATT logo
what I have done so far was backed up before this brick started, then factory reset, data and all cache, since the factory reset I haven't gotten past the ATT logo.
Not going to sleep tonight until this is solved, I know someone can help me since I can still get into TWRP
Was thinking of trying to ODIN back to 4.1.1 then flash 4.2 then flash 4.3 but I am pretty sure that will hard brick it right?

I had similar issue before.
Here is what I did to recover
1. Make sure you are using TWRP 2.6.3.1 (I used 2.6.3.0 tried the steps below, the device was stuck at AT&T logo, I thought you have the same version?)
(TWRP 2.6.3.1 is available here http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/d2att/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-d2att.tar, you can flash it with ODIN v3.07)
2. Download a "almost official stock rom" from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47816011&postcount=18
3. Put the rom in SD card.
4. Boot into TWRP recovery.
5. Wipe->Format Data->Yes
6. Wide->Swipe to Factory Reset
7. Wide->Advanced Wipe->Check Dalvik Cache and Cache->Swipe to Wipe
8. Install->external_sd->AT&T_I747UCEMJB.zip
9. Reboot and done.

Wish I saw this earlier, probably would have worked. It doesn't even turn on anymore. Thank you for the help though. Just going to put in a claim and say I ran it over with my car or something

Did you brick it because you downgraded from 4.3 to 4.1.1? you might still have chance to unbrick it although I've never tried it.

Also would have probably worked if I had any life at all from this thing. I think this was destined to break, I believe hardware failed.
It broke when I tried flashing d2att_I747UCUEMJ2_bootloader_modem after flashing boot_CWM_I747UCUEMJB
UPDATE: Able to get back into Download mode, TWRP and it still hangs at the ATT logo. Was able to do that by sticking a debrick dump img on my sd card and doing that method. Now I am trying to fully follow thru with that thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068) but I still have never seen a stock 4.3 that i can flash via ODIN, i asked them where I can find that. I may try these directions in the meantime (Also, I tried to update to TWRP 2.6.3.1 and ODIN froze on the checking .md5 step so, maybe that's the issue to begin with?)

Welp I'm finally back up.. here's what I had to do
First, had to get a debrick img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068&page=3
Then carried out these steps
First:
I used "Win32DiskImage" Located here But you can also use dd to write the image to your sd card in Linux.
On Windows:
Open Win32DiskImage. Brows to the Debrick dump you have for your device. Select the drive letter if your micro sd in the drop-down, click write. Bam done.
On Linux:
For ease of example, and method. Open Gparted on your Linux install or live cd, check the dev your sd card is in the drop down menu. For example mine was /dev/sdb/ then use "dd if=/path/to/debrick/dump.img of=/dev/sdb/" This method also works. Be careful you are selecting the right dev or you will overwrite another disk on your system. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Second:
Put that SD card in your device insert the battery and if the SD card is written correctly with a proper debrick file. You can put a jig in the device and it will boot straight to download mode. If you dont have a jig hold Vol Down + Home + Power the device will boot to download. If it does not, either the image didn't write to the card properly ( I had to write it a few times with Win32DiskImager, DD worked fine the first try), the debrick dump is no good. Or your trying to debrink your 4.3 bootloader downgrade brick with a dump from 4.1.2 compatible bootloaders. this will not work the blown efuse will still prevent the bootloader from booting from the SD card as well as the EMMC. You will know pretty fast if it worked, as the device will vibe with the jig or it will vibe with the button combo almost immediately after being pressed and held.
booted to Recovery, then basically whipped through these steps
"You will need to copy all of the files you are going to flash (you can download them below) onto your 1GB or larger SD card. You then Need Put your Debrick SD card in the Phone, Remove and reinstall the battery,Put the Phone in Recovery Mode (Must Be Either TWRP or CWM Instructions and TWRP Download Below), Dismount the Debrick SD card, Insert your SD card with your Bootloaders, ROM, kernel, and Modem into the Phone, Mount the SD card, Flash your files one at a time, wipe the cache and dalvik between each file, Once you are done reboot the system, You Might have to put the debrick SD back in and do another battery pull, boot up the phone, after you get in the phone reboot it without the Debrick SD card in. If it will not Boot on its own see the link below."
My original problem came when i removed the debrick SD and inserted the file SD, i wasn't mounting so i was confused for a min. Then the ROM i was trying to flash was the "update43" from the OTA 4.3 update thread, that does not work, ended up using the "almost Stock" from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47816011&postcount=18
And I was good after that. Basically I just went a long way to do what the tuts had already said to do, and the screen flickering is also gone along with the random reboots i was getting.

So I flashed cm 10.2 on my Galaxy S3 AT&T, and forgot to flash the right gapps, so I did that, except I forgot to do a factory reset when I flashed them. When I went to reboot, my phone would not turn on, nor get into recovery mode. It keeps showing the Samsung logo with the little CyanogenMod figure underneath it, and keeps vibrating repeatedly while trying to turn on. This is not a boot loop (I think) because my phone doesnt even get as far as the arrow animation that keeps going in circles. All I can do is access download mode. Can anyone help me? I have tried taking the battery out multple times and waiting for the battery to charge and then trying to turn it on, to no success.

If you can get to download mode, try flashing a stock file via Odin to reset your phone to working conditions. Thereafter, you can go back to a custom ROM. Would you recall what firmware version you were on prior to flashing CM? If it was anything older than 4.3 (e.g. 4.1.2, 4.1.1), you can Odin back to 4.1.1. If you already had 4.3, you would need to Odin back to 4.3 following the instructions posted in the thread below ..

First you will need to download and extract the Odin tool. Odin is Samsung's tool for flashing (installing) firmware. You can download Odin v3.07 via the link below ...

Once you have downloaded it, extract the files and look for the executable file (*.exe). That's the one you will need to run to open Odin.
We also need to identify the appropriate firmware to flash. You did not answer the earlier question on what Android version your device was on prior to flashing the custom firmware. This is important to let us know which official version you can safely revert to (4.1.1 or 4.3). If you were an older version than 4.3, you should flash 4.1.1 but if you were already on 4.3, then you should stick to this. Download the files to your PC and extract.
To flash via Odin, open Odin.exe on your PC
Click on the PDA tab and navigate to the file you just extracted. Select the file ending in *.tar.md5 (For 4.1.1, this would be I747UCDLK3_I747ATTDLK3_I747UCDLK3_HOME.tar.md5). Make sure this file is showing in the PDA tab.
Boot your phone into download mode and connect to your computer with a good quality micro-USB cable. Make sure your phone is recognized by Odin. You should see the message Added in the left pane.
Do not check or uncheck any boxes other than the defaults.
Click on start and waiting for firmware flashing to end and you see Pass. Your phone will reboot at this stage. You can disconnect from your PC
However, for 4.3, it looks like the Odin flash-able file has been taken offline so you would need to this via custom recovery. That's a different process so please revert on your Android version first so we'll know whether this is required or not
I was running JB 4.3, and I am planning to flash 4.1.1 as you've said. I am downloading that rom from the SamMobile site, however it is taking quite a while...
I understand that it shouldnt be a two minute download, however its been 2 hours and only 210 MB has been downloaded.
Also, I have Odin v3.09, which in the place of a PDA tab, there is an AP tab... should I place the file in the AP tab?

Please do not try to flash 4.1.1 if you were on JB 4.3 otherwise you could hard brick your phone due to the secure bootloader in 4.3. You need to revert to stock 4.3 via custom recovery. You may go to the thread below for instructions...

Just to reaffirm since I am not very experienced and do not wish to break my phone:
1) Download the twrp 2.6.3.1 d2att.tar file and flash it to my phone in download mode via Odin.
2)Download zip file on my computer, and take out the microSD from my phone, and copy the file to my microSD.
3) I am confused here because you stated to flash the custom recovery in step 1... anyways when flash is complete I immediately take my battery out to stop the reboot.
4) I insert the microSD with the zip file containing the stock rom
5) Now I should be able to reboot into recovery mode on my phone, though I could not beforehand.
6) Once in Recovery, go to Install and flash the custom stock.
7)Wipe dalvik cache and cache, and reboot to system.
Please clear up any confusion, I am very cautious and inexperienced. Sorry.

Yes, you are correct. What you are doing in step 1) is flashing custom recovery to your phone. Custom recovery allows you install zip files to your phone and is more functional and versatile than stock recovery.
The zip file referred to in 2) is the stock restore zip. This is the file you will be flashing from (custom) recovery and is the one from the following link (http://www.mediafire.com/download/30...re_2282014.zip). Once you have downloaded it to your computer, save to an SD card so you can insert it into your phone to flash.
The battery pull is after flashing the TWRP file. You then have to boot into (custom) recovery mode to flash the stock restore zip from the SD card.

I have done everything you said, I flashed the TWRP file via Odin, and then i copied the stock zip file to my microSD and put it back into my phone.
I am able to boot into recovery, and everytime I go to flash the stock rom, midway through the flash my phone starts rebooting. Even if I try to clear dalvik cache and cache first, once they are cleared my phone automatically starts rebooting. What do I do now? The zip file is there and I can reach TWRP recovery, but the flash wont complete because my phone starts rebooting. I am at a 100% battery right now so I do not know what the cause of this could be. Please help, I cannot tell what I did wrong if I did do anything wrong.
Try installing the latest version of Philz Touch for the d2lte. Some people have good results with TWRP. I found Philz Touch, which is based on CWM, better for my purposes. Philz can be installed via Odin as long as you down the tar version.

Ok, something very strange has occured.
Since my phone would not flash the original stock rom, I decided to go ahead and flash CM10.2 and its gapps to see if it the problem was with my phone or with the file. Everything worked fine and my phone booted and ran CM10.2, but then I had absolutely no signal anywhere. I could confirm something was wrong because there were multiple AT&T users near me that had good signal. So then I went to flash the stock rom, and it worked. I cleared dalvik and cache like normal after all these flashes and performed factory resets, however when I flashed this stock rom, it worked but 1) I could not connect to Wifi 2) I could not use apps with root requirements, and Root Checker said I did not have root access, even though I had definitely rooted my phone earlier when I first ran CM11 and CM10.2
Should I root again? Please help, my phone is working and I can go into download, stock recovery, and normal mode.

The whole idea was to get your phone back to working state. Thereafter, you can build up on the food chain. The stock file you flashed restores the phone to near factory settings including a complete stock (official) firmware, stock recovery, resetting the flash counter. Unfortunately, it also removes root as well. You can, however, re-root in a number of ways. You may also do as Audit advised and reflash Philz Touch custom recovery which would allow you flash any custom ROM of your choice. You do not necessarily need to root to flash custom ROMs if you have custom recovery. However, if you need to use apps which require root, I would recommend you try SafeRoot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758). Very easy to use and worked quite well for me.
Finally, you should be able to restore your Wi-Fi from settings. Wi-Fi setup should have happened during the set-up process upon reboot after the firmware installation but sometimes this step is skipped. If you go to Settings, you should be able to enable and set up Wi-Fi.

So I have been successfully running cyanogenmod 11 for about 6mo now. Two days ago, my google account wouldnt sync anymore.
I read up on it and it was a corruption in a file and I needed to restore my cyanogenmod
Heres where I f'd up. I took the phone into TWRP, had my backup on my SD card so I wiped the rest of the phone. I accidentally did not uncheck the box for my SD card and wiped it too.
Now, I have no OS installed and im stuck in a boot loop.
I tried launching odin on my PC and reloading the factory firmware but it fails everytime. I took it to best buy and they couldnt fix it with their smart tool. And I cant send it back to samsung because it shows that Ive flashed it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can get into download mode? You tripped the knox counter on your phone?
Yes I can. And recovery as well. And yes, it's tripped
Personally, I would flash the latest version of Philz Touch in Odin, copy a custom ROM to your external SD card, boot into Philz recovery, wipe cache, wipe data, wipe Dalvik, flash the ROM, and reboot. This should at least get your phone up and running.
I consider myself decent at tech related stuff. However I have no idea what you just said. Link to a step by step or YouTube video?
The issue with Odin was that it failed seconds after I started the upload (last time) will that not be an issue here?
Odin probably failed because you were trying to downgrade the bootloader which is not allowed. Do you remember the error you got in Odin?
Download the latest tar.md5 file from here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/
Download the latest CM10.2 and put it onto your external SD card. I know CM10.2 is but you need to get your phone working so you can determine the bootloader version on your phone. Place the SD card into the phone.
Launch Odin 3.07, make sure everything is unchecked except for F.reset time. Click on PDA, browse and select the tar.md5 file you downloaded, boot phone in download mode, connect phone to computer, flash recovery. When you see the word reset in the status window, disconnect the USB cable, pull the battery, boot into recovery mode, wipe cache, wipe data, wipe Dalvik, flash CM10.2, reboot.
Ok I'll give it a whirl tomorrow most likely. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for the help!

Rooted: Yes
Recovery: Clockworkmod v.6.0.4.7/Phiz touch 6
Bootloader: "I have no clue." Help me find?
Alright so basically how I got soft-bricked or bricked was because I deleted everything in the system. I think I wiped it somehow, I don't know thought I was just factory resetting. Then I flashed a custom rom via cwm recovery from my sdcard.
Quick question also, does cwm "Install from zip" option mean to "flash" from? Anyways, I am pretty new to all this techical stuff so don't judge me.
I then download a stock rom from "other places-sorry totally forgot where" and tried flashing it from inside cwm and it fails. I found a .tar stocked rom file and tried it with Odin 3.07 of course with my phone in download mode.
Oh yes and when I put it in download mode the info writes:

This is my first time, doing all of this so I wouldn't know what these mean. Furthermore, when I try flashing any of the stock rom for my SGH-I747 with Odin v3.07 it always "FAIL" to succed.
Other than that my phone obviously has no os but I can't still run "Recovery mode" and "Download Mode" except that everything I do never is a success.

AND THESE ROMS JUST DON'T WORK, I DOWNLOAD THEM BUT THEY STOPPED 3/4 OF THE WAY GIVING ME A CORRUPTED FILE? I TRIED DOWNLOAD 4 TIMES: http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyS3/SGH-I747
Please anyone, any of the devs member help me! I Really need to fix this issue! I just want back my stock rom.

Do not flash anymore ROMs using Odin until you know the bootloader version on your phone.
To quickly get your phone up and running, I recommend doing this:
download the latest CM11 from here and save it to your external sd card: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=d2lte
download CM11 Gapps from here and save it to your external sd card: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
download the latest tar.md5 version of Philz Touch for the d2lte from here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/
place SD card into the phone;
open Odin 3.07, uncheck everything except f.reset time, flash Philz to your phone, remove the USB cable when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove battery, replace battery, boot into recovery, wipe data partition, cache partition, and Dalvik, flash CM11, flash Gapps.

I have been doing a bunch of reading to figure out what I did and how to fix it. I have a Samsung S3 SGH-I747 and had philz touch installed and was running the custom cyagogenmod rom 12.1 but was having trouble with the screen going black during phone calls and wanted to fix this.
I did some more reading and found out that a fix for this was updating the modem. I then proceed to SamMobile and grabbed the firmware for my phone and proceed to install it using ODIN. I didn't notice that I grabbed the wrong firmware (I747M) instead of (I747). Odin said everything installed properly so the phone rebooted and now It looks like I installed the stock rom (which I wasn't trying to do but oh well). The phone hangs on the samsung logo screen now.
The phone will boot into download mode
The phone will boot into the stock recovery, I lost my philz touch.
I am not sure what to do now to get the phone working again? Is it soft bricked? I don't think it Hard bricked.
Can anyone point me in the correct direction?
I was thinking I should grab the correct firmware and try installing that via ODIN again?
Which rom did you flash?
I flashed the firmware from SamMobile which is 4.4.2 but for 747M not 747. I accidentally grabbed the wrong one.
Boot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and reboot.

If you were able to flash an i747m ROM onto an i747 with everything working, that would be great as you won't have to worry about using different methods to get back to a stock ROM because all you have to do is flash with Odin.

I want to clarify a bit.
When I get home I will turn phone on and wipe those two thing then just let the phone reboot?
I never got into the operating system after I did the flash.
I also noticed that all my cyanogenmod flashy screens were gone during boot-up.
Yes, boot directory into recovery, wipe those two items, then select reboot system from stock recovery.
The CM screens are gone because they have been overwritten with the stock Samsung boot logos, pictures, animations, and sounds.

Yes that worked, my phone is up and running, Thank-you.
Now I would like to install a custom ROM again but want the modem fixed.
The fact that I have did a firmware install would that mean the modem has been updated?
Or do I need to install a recovery, custom rom, gapps and modem files?

"samsung info" to find out. i think ¿ starting with 4.4.2 they are suppose to match. and i believe (maybe @audit13 knows better) , but enewman used to have a thread with bootloader/modem flashable zips. makes it much easier (for me it did anyway).

What is wrong with the modem? No signal, no data, and/or wifi?
The i747m modem should give you LTE on att as Rogers, bell, and Telus in Canada support the same frequencies as att.
I was having trouble with the phone screen going black when making calls. A few threads mentioned that updating the firmware for the modem fixes this problem.

I also want to switch to a custom rom like cyanogenmod or slimkat. I may not be going about it the right way. But I thought if I updated the firmware from SAMmobile it would fix the modem then I could proceed with installing a recovery and ROM.
During a call, the screen goes black when you put the phone to your ear? When you remove the phone from your ear, does the screen light up? If the answer is yes to both questions, there is nothing wrong with the modem.
Does the phone function properly? If not, I recommend resolving these issues before moving to a custom rom as not all custom ROMs work well with i747m or i747.
No when I make a call using the cyanogenmod the screen went black and stayed black until call ended. It didn't matter if the phone was near my ear or laying flat it stayed black. Other than that one issue the custom ROM worked perfectly.
Does the screen work properly with the stock ROM? What is the baseband (last 4 characters) on the phone? Baseband can be found under settings.
Yes the phone works properly with the stock ROM that I installed yesterday. I will have to check tonight and see what the baseband is on the phone. thanks for helping me understand this.
The baseband will help determine what can and can't be flashed to the phone. Since you flashed a stock i747m ROM, the baseband will also reveal the bootloader.
The baseband is I747MVLUFOB3
Looks like you successfully converted an i747 to an i747m which is a good thing IMHO. To confirm this, boot into recovery and you should see FOB3 somewhere on the recovery screen.
If you want a custom ROM, do this:
1) download Odin 3.07 from here: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j...07763241,d.dmo
2) download the tar version of TWRP 2.8.7.0 from here: https://dl.twrp.me/d2att/
3) download the latest cm12.1 for the phone from here ( http://www.cmxlog.com/12.1/d2att/) and save it to a micro SD card;
4) download the version of cm12.1 gapps you want from here (https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps) and save it to the same sd card where you saved CM12.1;
5) place the micro SD card into the phone;
6) boot the phone into download mode;
7) open Odin 3.07 and uncheck everything except f. reset time;
8) click on PDA and browse to the tar TWRP file and select it;
9) connect the phone and it should show up as a com port in Odin;
10) flash TWRP;
11) when you see the word RESET in the status window, remove the USB cable, remove the battery, replace the battery, use the button combination to get into recovery which should now be TWRP;
12) perform a full wipe of system, data, and cache;
13) flash CM12.1 and gapps from the micro SD card;
14) reboot and enjoy
