[Q] Youtube and 1440 / 1600p - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How come do I not have the option to select video quality higher than 1080p on any youtube video? Of course I'm talking about videos that support that resolution, checking with my desktop.
I mean, the screen supports up to 2560 x 1600 so why is this?

1440P was added for a time but then removed. Not sure why but they wouldnt do 1600P if they already took away 1440P.

I read one could downgrade the app to have 1440 working again, but is there any other workaround? I'm rooted.

You can downgrade without root. Just hit uninstall updates and download the youtube 5.7apk update i think.

I meant a workaround other than downgrading the apk
I just don't feel comfortable using a much older version of an app, only for one feature, sacrificing tons of bugs fixes and stuff.

Here is the apk you want http://youtube.en.uptodown.com/android/download/73801. If you're rooted it's RUMORED that this edit may also work with the current YT version: Edit the portion of the "build.prop" file that reads "ro.build.version.release" and change "4.x.x" to "5.0", then reboot. Don't blame me if you break something.

YT 5.18.5
Google is pushing out Youtube 5.18.5. 1440 is reenabled. The apk is also available on a few mirrors.

Did you notice a visual difference when changing to 1440p, maybe even slower load times?
Does it stick when you press it? sorry i'm very excited for this and i must check it and be sure, there was version which gave the option but it either didn't stick, or it was "fake 1440p" just 1080p.....even it was showing 1440p.

Yeah, what's with that? 720p on a 1440 screen. Does the Nexus 6 get 1440? How about the G3? Is Google hatin' on the N4?

I guess YouTube doesn't like the Note 4. A few threads on it in the general and Q&A section. Think like 10 steps to get it to work. LoL. Guess we need to ***** to them.

Most of Lollipops changes and design is a good refresh from what KitKat offered. Most of you may dislike it at first but personally, I'm finally glad to see changes from the old 4.0.

Google Camera 5.2 - Who got it so far?

Hello guys!

Really? I just do the twist motion to switch. That's still available to do luckily for me.
They removed the grid button from the quick toggles but would've been nice if they let you customize it. A portrait mode quick toggle would save me a tap.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure. I'm pretty confident that you can as its still an official verison.
Come to think about it I'm sure I've also updated an app manually like this and then updated it on its next release (I think I did this with android wear).
I noticed the "subscribe to pushbullet updates" on apk mirror so did that for the Google camera. That way can get the update a little faster

Sure. I did the same thing with the phone apk a while back when it was updated to 16.0. Sometimes it just takes google a little longer to catch up with their own apps ??
So they replaced a really good feature (double tap to zoom) with double tap to switch cameras? I hope it doesn't do that during a recording.
Edit: So I have camera version 5.2 and it's the same as before.
They have improved noise levels in the photos recently, I liked that
Edit Edit : There's tons of new settings yay
Thanks google

Oh, No problem, you can choose if you want to zoom or switch camera! Do not worry
I always download APK updates whenever I can just cause I'm impatient. Android Police is quick on getting Google updates post with APK links. And yes, you can get regular updates through the Google Play Store still.
I would actually have liked the double tap to switch cameras with the video recording as I see iPhone Instagram stories doing it. It's cool to film something then show your reaction.

update Google photos

I'm on Android P and today I noticed an update for Google photos app. So I downloaded it and it turns out to have broke something. When u roll up or down the screen flickers now. I have since then went back before the update. Is it just mines or anyone else on P can comfirm.

Wooo......slow down there buddy ?. There is always reasons to root. If only to change the bootanimation or to simply stop seeing "Permission Denied". I use Termux a lot and i will get "Permission Denied" for various reasons. It's nice being able to type "su" and seeing $ go to # then typing in that same command and it doesn't hesitate because now your the boss.
