Underline Spelling Errors in Red - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have google keyboard which used to allow red underlining of spelling errors. I am vzw stock unrooted. Since update I cannot get it to work. Is there any special combination of settings that will give me red underlined spelling errors again? I do not want autocorrection. I want red underlining. Example below
Does anybody have this feature working?

Thanks for replying. So the feature WAS there in original but one of the updates removed it?

I have this problem since i got phone. After updates, everything is same, still no spell checker. I tried many keyboards but i still have that problem. The most of keyboards dont use that feature because usually, phone need to have it.
As i can see, LG doesn't have spell checker, and they try to make it with lg keyboard.
Did you solved this issue?
At attachment you can see that option is selected and text in email.

I tried the g3 day it came out and red underlining lining did work that day. I don't know what is happen since?

I don't know what can be a problem, but its incredible annoying! There are many topics but non of them have answer. Few people complain and everything finish on that.
I read same things on reddit and few more portals. At the end, no one come out with solution or information did they fixed it and how.

My gibberish reply with d-j was me using google voice to text

How and where do you access that additional features menu?

You have settings > Language and input > Lg keyboard . You can find settings on right side. But no metter what you add there, spell checker will not start to work. Maybe is only for me.

Thats where I looked. Nothing there called additional settings
. If I find it I will do a system reset and try again. One guy on android forums claims his works but I couldn't get him to post an example and he won't answer my pm

Can you please share the link? I would like to check.

Red border blinking around some applications

Hi, Since I didn't get 4.0.2 update I decided to unlock the bl and manually flash the update from google on my brand new GN.
Once unlocked and booted with factory reset.. got a pop up for 4.0.2 update.
After the ota update I found that when I'm opening some apps like picture galary, market etc a red border flashing around the application and going away. Its replicable when I enable/disable auto brightness.
Anyone else get this?

i noticed this first when using google maps and I thought they added a red flash on upcoming new turns. I thought that was an amazing addition to turn by turn nav as I hate the voice portion so much I mute it.
alas, I am saddened and now have to decide to rid myself of it.
If you hate the voice just for the way it sounds, I recommend installing INOVA high quality text-to-speech, it sounds so great, and best part is that once you install it, it works for every text-to-speech function on your phone. If you hate the voice for other reasons, then idk...

Missing Symbols--2 Note 2's side by side

Can someone tell me where the stock samsung keyboard symbols are on the note on the left??? Both are LJC rooted with twrp. I can't find anything in the settings that will give me the symbols above the numbers. Any help will be appreciated.
70 people and nobody knows?...ouch....ok..anyone with any input will be thanked by me(i'll actually thank your post)......thanks
I'm kind of confused. The only time I saw people post the non symbol keyboard was in the international forum.

I tried that, since I don't use that keyboard. Mine continued to have the symbols above the letter keys, as before. I think it may have to do with the fact that the microphone and settings symbols on the key at the bottom left are opposite between the two layouts. I tried to find anything that would let me change that in anything related to voice settings, but had no luck.
the 1 on the left(no symbols) was bought at a sprint store...the 1 with the symbols was bought on ebay from a reliable seller. both are activated on my sprint account. the 1 on the left was rooted with the "tool kit"..the 1 with no symbols was...sorry i don't remember how i rooted it but it wasn't with the tool kit...,,,either way thanks for the input fellas...im stumped...i was using swype on my gs3's and i was happy to see the top row of numbers on the sammy KB...but i'd like the symbols...

Mine had the symbols on stock, once I installed jellybomb they went away. I tried extracting the keyboard from the stock ROM (I made a nandroid before flashing) but the symbols did not come back.

that symbol just shows what was used last. if you use it to go into settings it will show the gear until it is used again. Use it for voice input and it will switch to the mic. The theory is that the one tap option switches to what was used last since that is probably what you use most.
As to the op topic, I am on Jelly bomb with 'add back allshare' flashed and I don't have the symbols.
it would be interesting to have more people state their rom and if they have symbols or not.
edit: I just flashed the LJC DEODEX and have symbols on the keyboard now.

no, the symbols are even in different places on these kb.
jellybomb was the only rom i tried that had this effect. clean rom and blazer had the full stock symbols back when i tried them.
even pulling the stock kb from a nandroid doesn't fix it. some other file/program seems to control what keyboard keys are attached to what symbols. it would be nice to find out which and be able to customize and remove symbols i never use.
thank all for your input...as far as the "mic"/"settings" symbol...that DOES change to the last selected option...if it shows the mic icon and i long press it to go into the selectable options and choose "settings"..it will them show the settings icon..
as far as my OP at least now i know...you should have seen me in the damn options trying to figure out what i was "missing"...and then it took me 25 minutes to press "submit new thread" on this because i just knew some 12 yr old was going to point me to an option i was completely over looking!!!

I am not sure what you are saying no to, which symbols are in different places? So far it seems the symbols are either there or not there, not that they have moved around location to different places

The OP said that he is having this problem with a rooted stock rom.
If it is like you said and some program is controlling this than it seems like a problem that could show up after time has passed, further adding confusion. My stock rom shows symbols now but what about in a few days. That would make it seem like it is a bug that samsung needs to address.
again...the 1 WITH the symbols... i took the OTA and then rooted with the "note2 tool kit"
the 1 WITHOUT the symbols..i rooted it and added TWRP and i flashed a rooted version of the OTA..i used "ROOT66_LJ1_TO_LJ6_OTA_UPDATE.ZIP...found in the link i posted previously...
otherwise the phones are stock/rooted with TWRP...I may flash back to stock on the 1 without symbols and re-root with the "note2 tool kit"..to see what happens.(when i have a chance)..
Could just be a de bloated feature, I don't mind having the main punctuation symbols associated with the period key. Just hold it for a half second and it pops up. After looking at other keyboards online is hard to want to take any cause now after having this designated number row I'm spoiled
I won't go with out. I just hope Swift key Flow has an option for designated number row whensit's released.

i too am spoiled by the designated number keys...and its true the symbols under the period key are just fine...i started this topic thinking i was missing something about how to get the symbols above the numbers like my note2 on the right in the OP...i never had any idea that there would be 2 different versions of the same keyboard...but like i said in an earlier post..."at least i know now" (haha)..it was driving me crazy looking for keyboard settings that DIDN'T EXIST!!!!...
on a side note..i like to see this keyboard(swift key flow) delete the entire word when "backspace" or the back arrow key is pressed...thats very convenient in swype..
The symbols are missing due to an edited feature.xml, which you can find in the system/csc folder.
Pull the feature.xml from the one with the symbols and push it the the other phone set the permissions and reboot.

seems it may be in the SIP section. there is one missing entry and one extra entry that differs from blazer rom. i may check it later and see what happens.
if someone lists a quick 1 2 3 step by step of which .xml file and where..i'll give a crack and see what happens...

I swear my note 3 used to underline words in red if misspelled but not any more.

Did I disable an app that I need?

Good hint, I am uninstalling my SmartKeyboard Pro and reinstalling to see if that fixes it. That keyboard should be underlining words in red.
The keyboard just got an update a couple days ago. Did you update? If so maybe that's it.
did anyone find a solution?
it is unreal that after spending half a grand on a phone it doesn't
have what my Word had in 1994 ..
what my BlackBerry had in 2004 ..
it is 2014 and we have gone back in progress
maybe we can do the same:
Ok so i confirm after installing Google Keyboard and Uninstalling the original Xperia keyboard, then restarting, the option to use google as a spellchecking service, appeared in the Spell Checker settings and now it works great, with the red line.

I could understand swiftkey or swype or something, but google's keyboard, if you're a swyper, is horrible. LG's is decent, not as good as swype, but about as good as swiftkey and it has some nice features. I enjoy the lg keyboard, although this one handed thing is a bit of an oversight.

perhaps you're running over the spacebar? I tried to reproduce but I got 'success' every time... so I'm not sure what you've got going on there.
also make sure in the setting you've 'update word suggestions' makes a huge difference

Missing Dictionaries

Where are they? I've seen them in review videos. The option to highlight the word then select dictionary, English to spanish, etc would be handy. Is it only missing on Verizon or does anyone know?
I just tried this for the first time and it gave me the option to download the English version and it worked. I do not see any other options though.
English is the only option.

They always seem to take out the small stuff that you can use like the settings screen can't change to another view that the reviews have either.
