[Q] [ARHD] Battery Drain - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I'm in a little trouble right now. For past two weeks I'm experiencing high battery drain on my HTC M8. I'm running Android Revolution HD 10.2 for three months and I've never had that much battery drain as I'm having now. For example, I unplug charger in the morning after all night charging and after 45 minutes (screen off, lte off, WiFi, bt and stuff also off) I have left only 92 % of battery.
What can I do? I appreciate any help and I'm ready to post all data you need.
Best regards,
pablo7890

Since you've been on the same ROM for 3 months, I suspect its some app or mod that you applied recently.
Otherwise it has to be a hardware issue.

I finally found out that Snapchat was draining battery as hell. I deleted it, but still it's draining badly. What can I do? Are there some good power saving tweaks or something?
Thanks

It will suck but your going to have to go app/mod by app/mod youve installed to find the culprit.

After you install the app, you can try disabling the tweaks that you have installed for a day or two to see how the battery goes. If its still bad, take a look at the wakelocks that's causing the issue. Or you can go for a full wipe and set-up your device from scratch without tweaks to see how the battery fares.

[Q] Battery issues

I've noticed recently that my battery seems to be draining quicker than usual, and I haven't been able to figure out why exactly. I know people here know a LOT more about this stuff than I do, so I figured I'd see if someone could help.
I use GSam Battery Monitor, and I took some screenshots of the top drainers to see if it would mean anything to someone who knew better. When the battery started dying quickly, I installed Greenify and added almost every application to it so they wouldn't drain constantly. These screenshots are after Greenify was installed.
I'm running CM 10.1.0-RC4, with no other modifications to my system. Thanks in advance for any help!
seems that kernel is on max speed most of the time
Happened to me on the one v but it usually goes back to normal after a while

[Q] CyanogenMod 10.2 Alpha (Build 3) --- great stuff, but battery drains fast

Hi,
I follow the forums here for years but have not posted yet, hence not allowed to post on the dev forum in the appropriate thread, had to open a new one
A couple of days ago I installed "[ROM][JB][4.3.1][JLS36I] CyanogenMod 10.2 Alpha (Build 3)" on my wife's phone. Until then she was still using the stock GingerBread ROM. The phone got so slow to the point of not being usable at all.
After I flashed to CM 10.2 it feels like a new phone. Lightning fast, good looks, everything works - fantastic, very much appreciated and thank you very much @ Devs!!! :good::good::good:
One big problem though:
When running the stock ROM the battery usually lasted about 2 days. Now, with CM10.2 it is empty after half a day. Since I did a full wipe before she is using less Apps as compared to before and there is no single big consumer. Just the typical mail apps, facebook etc.
When I look at the wakelocks there is one app consuming most CPU which is CSipSimple. But that app was also running before the upgrade when the battery lasted 2 days.
The screen seems to consume more power though, is that possible? Anyone else with similar experiences?
Thank you very much!

ok thanks let me do some reading.
Also yesterday I deactivated the SIP app and that helped of course. Still strange that the app consumed to much less power on Gingerbread compared to CM10.2
Thanks,
Sven
You can try out battery calibration app before new kernel. Cause there is no "wipe battery stats" on cwm 6.0.4.4. I had same problem, and its a bit effected on cm 10.2. It's free. Maybe it will solve your problem.
Battery Calibration
That sounds very good, let me try that!
I have the same issue with increased battery drain. Yet I've not been able to identify the source. I disabled a lot of services (with Disable Service), also deactivated unnecessary system apps.
Cell standby is also shown as a huge drainer, although I usually have a good signal and no losses (checked with Better Battery Stats). There are no wake locks out of the ordinary.
Now I'll try battery calibration to see if that helps at least some amount.
Actually for me nothing really helped.
I eventually identified the 3 apps that drained the battery via Wakelock detector.
Those apps are Facebook, GMX Mail (based on K9 mailer) and CSipCimple.
Before the update to 4.3 my wifes phone was running the stock gingerbread and did not have an issue at all with those apps.
Yet on CM4.3 they are draining the battery.
Once I uninstalled the apps the batter life is back to normal. Which is sad, because she needs those apps. But no other solution so far from my side....

Again the myth with whiping battery stats / battery calibration. Make a full charge and unplug the charger. This will whipe your battery stats.
And for the ones who never get this. The stats are just some data about apps consumption collected while the battery gets discharged. The ROMs are whiping them by itself on each full charge and after shuting down the phone.
This data has no Infulence to how long a battery lasts. It´s just collected to show you visually the statistics.

Thanks ... yeah well did not really expect it, but when you're desperate
At least I thought it helps with the effect that the first 50% of the battery last 3 times as long as the last 50%, but not even that changed

I had the same problem with my S4 running CM 10.2 stable. The battery was empty after 8 hours. What I did was to change the theme, and today i got 12 hours and only 20% of the battery gone and wi-fi/3g all the time. Well, I still have only one hour of screen up time, but that is how it was before... I don't know, i'm just saying! Maybe it helps. The theme i added is LunarUi 2.
All the best!

Rapid Battery Drain - How can I improve?

My battery seems to be draining quite fast. I have removed a lot of bloatware, but I'm not getting the type of performance that others are getting.
It has lost 70% in 5 hours just doing a little browsing, watching a 20minute video and playing a game for half an hour. This was with Wifi on, and mobile data switched off, and background data switched off too.
I've had the device for a week now and I've charged it every day.
Any Ideas on how to improve it?

Could well be your brightness level? Are you using autobrightness or is it on a fixed level (I hope its not fixed at 100%!)
If you use autobrightness try using an app like LUX auto brightness instead.

Thanks for that, I did have it on Auto brightness for the first few days, but the last few days I switched it off just in case it was that, but the problem remained. I will try LUX auto as you suggested.

My guess is a corrupted media file somewhere which is causing your media server to prevent the phone from going into deep sleep. When you go to settings , battery, is media the no 1 juice sucker?

Yeah I got rid of the radio and media player from one of the homescreens as they showed quite heavily in wake up time. but the battery still kept draining fast.

I wouldn't mind, but I just bought it 8 days ago, people are experiencing a lot longer battery life than I can.
Immediately just played a game and look how much has gone.
Why is Android system using up so much? I've even got location switched off and Google search etc. is deleted.
If 're not using Xposed Frameowrk for tweaks, looking into enabling ART - I did that and my battery life has been impressive.

I did try that, but it didn't work and the phone was a bit laggy. Why would android system take up 15% of whatever the battery uses? I'm getting so frustrated, I might do a factory reset.
Here is the picture of what is being used, down 40% in such a short time. :

Aosed to make things smoother not laggy
Sounds like you have something eating up massive resources.

A shot in the dark:
Do you skype? Skype was draining the battery down in the Nexus 7 2013 even when you were not using it. I disabled it and the battery improved greatly.
Another option:
It sounds to me that there's an app that is draining the battery down a whole lot. I would try to isolate that app (by deleting each one you downloaded one at a time) until you have found it.

I don't have skype, but I like your idea - I've gotten rid of almost all the bloatware stuff. What I think I'll do now is charge it to max. DO a factory reset and not allow Google to start downloading all my apps again.
Funny thing though - when I charged it last night and unplugged it for 3 hours it only dropped a couple of percent. It started dying rapidly after I opened up a few other apps.
What I'll do now is charge do a factory reset, then switch it off, then charge to max before turning it on again. When I first got it, it turned on as soon as I plugged it in. did the same happen for everyone?
What you might want to do is download Greenify on the play store. This will tell you what apps are running in the background and then it will turn them off (hibernate).

Make sure that you leave the battery charging for about 10-15 minutes more after your cradle light turns green. Sometimes the battery isn't fully charged despite the cradle light turning green. 30 minutes on a game shouldn't be using that much battery consumption.
I usually get about 10-12 hours or more on each of my batteries ( video calling, chatting, games and my 4g is turned on 90% of the time
Try this from Google Play

You can read their reviews and install the app but don't download too many battery monitor apps Keep us posted after a few days of monitoring Good luck :good:

[Q] High battery drain in standby

Hi,
I think i have a battery drain problem with my G Pad since the last firmware update (V50020d).
In 10 hours standby I loose round about 5% battery power. (WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS turned off)
Before the update there was nearly no standby power consumption, maybe 1% over night.
I tried to solve the problem with a factory reset, but the problem still persists.
I havent rooted the device, so I can only use the PC Version from wakelock detector here from xda.
Maybe this screenshots could help:

Try taking our your sdcard and see if the high battery drain overnight goes away. Some folks have noticed that the sdcard is now remounting several times a night and this causes the media server to scan the card over and over again all night resulting in battery drain. If the problem goes away with the removal of the sdcard you at least know what is causing it. Then you can join us in the thread where we are trying to track down what causes the sdcard bad removals....
Ok check your battery status and see if some google services is working in the background and uses some battery

Hi,
 @muiriddin
I tried this last night, but the problem is not fixed.
Seems like the micro SD card is not the problem.
But thanks for your advice.
@Jhon998
When i look in the battery statistics it just said 21% Tablet idle.

For how long it eats 21%?
The tablet uses 21% battery in round about 2,5 days standby.
I still could not solve the problem, so I rooted my G Pad with ioroot.
BetterBatteryStats sayed the problem is com.google.android.gms.
See attached screenshots for more information.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Sorry that I do not have anything to offer by ways of an answer, but in what I feel may be a relevant addition to the topic, I've found that my VK810 actually *loses* battery even while it's charging and in use. With the charger hooked up, I can see the percentage dropping steadily even during light tasks such as web browsing, albeit at a slower rate than when it's unplugged.
See this how i left it all night...

new battery and having the same problems before the old one died.

Hi all,
I got a new battery a week ago, because my phone didn't turn on or charged anymore.
But my battery keeps draining. I lose around 25% in idle at night time. And around 3% every 5 minutes when I use it.
I used gsam for a few days now to see iff there are any applications that are causing the drain. So far I can't discover any.
Also when I'm using my phone the side of the power button gets hotter then the rest of my phone. While the battery and cpu both are under 40 C.
I do have android 10 and 2.1 ui from devbase rom with soldier 6.0 clean installed, tried other roms aswell, so maybe I should get back to android pie?
I also started using ex kernel with the standerd underclock option you can choose while flashing this helps a bit.
Hopefully somebody can help me out.
Some gsam data
I have the same. I used different roms and kernels, all the same. I turn on airplane mode for the night. it helps a bit.

I do notice, that gsam says that that I am using wifi all the time. And it shows that battery usage is high when this happens.
The only thing is that I never use wifi anywhere..
I don't know if this is something to go on or just normal behavior?
