[Q] How can I backup fitness data? - Sony Smartwatch 3

Is any way how can I backup fitness data (steps)? I installed yesterday Google Fit into the phone, then uninstall it but all measured steps in the watch were deleted.
The same if I reset the watch.

It should be in the cloud, google made fit platform as an unified integration solution, so check in web version of the fit and keep your fit on the phone.

Also, if you are just planning on using Google's apps, you could use My Tracks. My Tracks supports offline GPS support (you don't need your phone with you), and it backs up to Google Drive. If you are concerned about losing your info, that automatically backs up for you. Just an option to consider.

My track is a very good idea. You can also export the data to a google spreachsheet. Each track will be added to this spreadsheet (if it's the same activity) then you can build some graph :highfive:

I use My Tracks. I lent my watch to my wife and she ran without my phone. But watch went out of battery and the track is not stored (16 km in 90 minutes). I'm said for her...

[Q] Consolidate/Transfer purchased apps? aka Google Apps is making my life miserable

Before you flame, I have searched the forums but haven't found a post within the last 6 months that definitively answers the question, so maybe something may have changed.
I'm looking for a way to transfer purchases from one google account to another. I got my phone while in college and used my Google Apps account from school (<EMAIL1>@mst.edu). It wouldn't let me use that account for google checkout so I had to add <EMAIL2>@gmail.com to purchase apps. This seems to work fine and when I go into google checkout and log in with EMAIL2, I see my purchases.
Now come the issues. If I try to switch to EMAIL2 only on my Evo 4G (software reset), I can pull mail but not app purchases.
The reason I want to stop using my google apps account is that a lot of google services seem to be sketchy with integration, IE Google Reader, Music, and Plus all work great on a PC but from the android phone, no dice.
I'd like to figure out a way to migrate my app purchases to [email protected] And use it for all of my email and other services to get away from my 'professional email account' EMAIL2 and my google apps account EMAIL1.
so just a review:
[email protected] - Google Apps account from college, application integration poor
[email protected] - "professional email", don't want social media services integrated with this. used only for resumes, etc
[email protected] - personal email that I want to use for everything.
My only solution so far seems to be spending $50 to purchase all of the apps again that I use REGULARLY or ~$120 for all of my app purchases total.
Anyone ideas?
Its worth a shot, but have you tried downloading / having all the apps you want, then use titanium to move to the sdcard, the sign on on email3, then restore? It may not fix the 'licensing' issue, but you should be able to use them still. Also, you can try [maybe from a pc] log onto google, and see if you can go into account management, then change your android email account, or call/email their tech support and have them manually change it.
Titanium backup is moot until a new root is released. my Evo was overheating and bootlooping so I just got a refurb preloaded with 2.3.3 .
As of a couple months ago, Google tech support says no. It could've changed since then, you'll need to check with Google though.
There are non-root backup apps, but if the apps are protected then I don't believe they'll be able to back them up. And if the apps have a license check in place that renders the app useless, then you're SOL. I get licensing errors with restoring with Titanium Backup, so you're bound to come across the same problem. I'm glad that apps use license checks though, it cuts back on pirating.

Music Sync App?

Hey everyone,
Just got my galaxy nexus a couple days ago and I love it! Switched from the Droid charge so its like night and day.
Now the issue that I have is my area does not have LTE support from Verizon and 3G has never been fast enough for me to stream from google music. It gets choppy and stops to buffer very often (which also happened with my charge).
Because of this, I orefer to have all my music stored on my phone. I used to use TuneSync on my charge and wireleslly sync to my computer but figured I would ask if anyone else uses an app that might work out better. Any suggestions?

Use Google Music. Sure, it takes time to upload your collection to the cloud, but you can download it onto your device and not use third-party apps.

Well also with google music you don't get the smart playlists in iTunes. Unless there's a workaround that I don't know about.

Google music has their own version of "smart" playlists called instant mixes.

I've already looked into that. it's still not what I want to do .
For example: I have a few "My Top Rated" playlists based on Genre.
When I used TuneSync it would just sync the playlists as they are on my computer to my phone.

Google Music will sync your playlists, as they are on your computer, to your phone. I've seen sync times of less than a minute once the playlists are changed in iTunes. Personally, I can't vouch for Smart Playlists, but I assume they would update in a similar fashion. I do believe Smart Playlists are contained in the same database file that iTunes stores the rest of your library/playlist information in.
After uploading your library the first time, I see newly added songs uploaded within 1-5 minutes of adding them, as long as it has a data connection. I do allow syncing over LTE, so if songs are added to playlists that are set to be "available offline," they get cached to the phone very shortly after adding them to the playlist in iTunes.
Edited for a couple corrections.

Thanks for your reply, however it didn't really help . The assumption you make about smart playlists updating in a similar fashion is unfortunately incorrect, and that is where my problem lies.
look into subsonic. I use it. It runs on your computer and lets u access ur music on your computer from anywhere.
The nice thing is that whatever you play it download to your internal storage for offline play. It also doesn't buffer because it doesn't have to stream. Pm me if u would like more details

I use iSyncR, but I have no idea if it works on the Nexus. I used it previously on my Charge and it worked flawlessly, smart playlists and all. It isn't free, however, but I can vouch for its functionality.

I'm giving this a shot. I installed it and it seems pretty cool. Got the whole wifi gig setup with it. One thing i really like is that it automatically syncs pictures I take to my pictures folder on my computer. So far its working well.
one thing that worries me is that judging by how it sync's, i feel like i may have doubles in my library due to the syncing of my Library AND my playlists. I hope this isnt what happens but we'll see. I have about 2000 songs in my library, and its telling me its syncing 3000 after adding my playlists. again, hopefully its not doubling the songs :/

I use double twist to sync my playlists. You would need the Air sync app to make it work on the galaxy nexus. Works like a charm.
OTA solution is Dropbox + Dropsync .
Store all your music in dropbox and use the dropsync app to sync specific folders on your android. Whatever you update on dropbox it automatically syncs to your device. You can same way also have your device sync to dropbox incase you download some track on your device, it'll be uploaded to your dropbox i.e all pc-mac having drop box. FOund this an extremely useful app.

Two-way music sync

I've spent the last few days trying to figure out a good way to sync music to my phone. From googling, the best solution was apparently PlayerPro, however I have tried running the trial on my phone, and it won't play back more than 1 song before freezing up. I'm not going to drop the $5 for it, if I can't get it to work.
I'm non-rooted, running the stock firmware (latest version).
Requirements:
- Must support "auto" playlists (for syncing, its fine if they aren't an option in the music app on the phone)
- Must sync song ratings back to Windows 7
- Must not require the use of iTunes
Nice to have:
- Ability to specify how much of my storage I want to dedicate to my music, so it doesn't max out my memory card.
Seems simple enough, but so far I haven't found a way to do this that doesn't use PlayerPro.
Any suggestions?
Explanation: I want to sync over to my phone songs I've rated highly + new/unrated songs. Then when I sync back, the ratings get passed back to the music management application in Windows to keep all my ratings in sync. I do not want to sync my whole library (which is bigger than my memory card).
What I've tried:
- PlayerPro should do what I want. But it freezes on me.
- DoubleTwist will only sync over my entire library. No smart lists for syncing
- WinAmp will "auto fill" but won't let me specify any paramaters for what gets synced over. Plus Winamp android app won't let me rate songs.
- MediaMonkey will work on the PC, but relies on PlayerPro for rating the songs on the phone.
This is a giant question not a guide.... So it belongs in Q and A.
Wow that's pretty specific. I'm unsure of anything available that does that. Google Music was my initial thought. Moving all your music there...? You can sync your whole collection although I don't know if you can selectively sync songs.
Edit : just checked you can make certain things available offline. Unfortunately nothing but a thumbs up or down for a rating system.

Its not a syncing app, but if you live in an area with good coverage maybe you can try using Audiogalaxy.

Music + Jellybean - no online option?

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it around!
I've updated my Nexus to JB and all is well. I've never really used the music app, but in preparation for my Nexus 7 arriving, I've done the "hack" to allow Google Music access from the UK - it's currently uploading my music as I type.
On my device though, I can't see it. The help says I should be prompted for which account to use, but this doesn't seem to happen. I've also checked under "Accounts and Sync" for my google account, and all looks happy (except no option for music is even listed).
Can anyone advise what I need to do to get it working?
Actually, I managed to use the hack too, but still have the same problem. I think you answered to yourself. It's a hack..so it's suppose maybe not to be fully operational.
I've been using Google Music in the UK more or less since it lauched & it works perfectly fine for me.
Under settings in the Music App does it list a Google Play Account? (Should be at the very top)
I'm using Google Music for a few month now as well and had a similar problem.
Try clearing the cache of the Music App. At least that solved the problem for me that a few albums where not showing on my phone.
download Titanium backup. go to your apps defrost Google music
Thanks everyone, I did a "clear data" and it's showing stuff now

Question Full backup before unlock bootloader without root?

Is there a way that I can do a full backup of all apps (including work profile) prior to unlocking the bootloader and the subsiquent factory reset?
I've done an ADB backup, but from what I've been reading it likely did not backup all apps.
Some of the apps that I've looked at are:
Helium - mixed reviews, does not look to backup all apps
G Cloud Backup - seems to not backup apps
Super Backup - requires root
I have no issue paying for a way to get a full device backup, but the options seem limited without root
Sorry. Not possible without root. You can do apps but not apps and data.

Damn I had a feeling that would be the case
Just to add to what @westhaking said, Google Cloud backup is useful, it does backup a "list" of the apps you have installed from the Play Store, and will offer to re-install those when you start fresh, and the apps from the Play Store that utilize Google's backup feature will have their data backed up and restored as well. More and more apps appear to support that, but definitely not all, and possibly not even most, so you can blame those app developers for not implementing that.
But yeah, no other choice is available. I've tried the non-root/ADB backup apps/method and it just doesn't backup app data that I experienced, even though they lead you to believe they do. Or perhaps it just doesn't restore the data.
Secure apps like for banking, of course, can't have their data backed up without root, and I normally don't restore app data for those either since I believe some or all banking apps won't work correctly with restored data, but I could be wrong.

You are correct here. I recently started using the Google One backup feature and it makes manually wiping, updating and restoring the data to my phone with each and every A13 beta release a complete breeze (especially since new variants of those updates have been popping up every other week recently as A13's official release is getting very close).
I was surprised by that specific backup feature backing up more of my app's data than I had anticipated. It didn't backup the app data for things that store the data on a separate user account (or contain said user accounts). Some examples would be eBay, Outlook, Chase Bank, etc. But luckily, for eBay, I just click "Logon with Google" and it logs me right in and is back to how it was previously. Outlook requires me to manually attach my email accounts again - which I imagine is due to potential privacy concerns in case there was a data breach and your Google account was hacked or something. Other apps - such as banking apps - I figure don't backup the credentials as it could pose a huge risk. But, the weird thing here was that Venmo actually took a full data backup and had logged me back in automatically once the app was restored...
So long story short, the Google One backup feature does quite well and seems to backup more app data than I had anticipated. And the best part is that it doesn't require an unlocked bootloader or root! I believe that it does, however, require you to pay for an annual Google One subscription (depending on how much space you have available on your Google account's Google Drive).
*Edit* - To comment on what @roirraW "edor" ehT mentioned regarding the possibility of restoring app data for banking apps possibly causing them to not work correctly; this is true for some apps (even if they are not banking apps). But, I have only noticed this causing a potential issue if you are restoring the apps and their data on a different model phone from the one that the apps and their data were backed up from. The first time that I had noticed this issue was when a family member had a OnePlus phone that was compatible with the Google Phone app that was listed on the Play Store for phones aside from Google's Pixel lineup. They backed up that app and its data and then restored it on their Pixel 6 Pro once I had convinced them to upgrade. In the end, they didn't get the app's Visual Voicemail feature due to the app (or its data) causing a weird mixup that prevented the Phone app from getting any of the Pixel exclusive features. This was resolved with a full wipe and reinstallation without restoring apps or data (until a new backup was taken once everything was working correctly).
*Edit 2.0* - My apologies for writing something that looks as lengthy as the second bible might be with this post...

Interesting about Venmo! Although I do pay for Google as of late last year when I pre-ordered the P6P, I didn't use to and Google had started backing up app data way back when I was on the Pixel 1 in 2016, and restoring apps and app data was smooth and easy, so as you said, as long as you have enough space in your Google Drive, otherwise you have to pay for more for this to work.
The only thing Google has done about the restore process that I don't like is that it's sorta hidden in the first setup. You have to decline to use the cable method (which doesn't work as well IMHO) before you are made aware there's still the option to restore from Google's cloud backup.
I don't know if they've changed the backup or restore functionality any from what's available for a free Google account. I know I have a Google One app, and it shows backup status in there, or I can fine-tune (only slightly) what gets backed up automatically, but I think the app is just an optional front-end for paying members, and not necessary for free members because the backup function is built into Android.
Hopefully, they haven't made it pay-only. I think that would be foolish, as since it's using your Drive space, if anything, it just makes it more likely someone will pay for extra storage eventually.

YES! This is why I have only just started using it! I bought the 200GB Drive storage package for more cloud based Photos storage! But I hadn't noticed the ability to restore from the Google Drive backups until about three weeks ago LOL!
Hi !
I've purchased the 200gb for Google photos like you but haven't figured out how to backup all my apps and their data.
Been searching in the Google one app and drive but didn't find the options, I'm seeing 2/3 of my apps backed up but some aren't such as my bank apps etc.. Could you share the steps on how you backed all them all please ?
Edit : I actually have the 100gb offer, might be the reason ?
Cheers !

Sure thing - but I don't think that the banking app data can be backed up due to security concerns. The app itself should be backed up and can be restored from said backup, however, your login details will not be backed up.
On your phone, navigate to:
Settings>>System>>Backup
Then, you'll have the option to enable "Backup by Google One" with a slider. Just below that slider is an option to make an updated backup: "Back up now".
Good luck and happy 4th if you're from the US.
If you're not, then have a happy Monday =).
Thank you !
I'll keep using Titanium Backup along then !
Happy 4th too !

To clarify, Google doesn't "backup" your apps - just the list of the apps that you have installed. And then it does backup app data, but only for the apps that the developer of the app has integrated Google's method, and as @NippleSauce said, it's likely all banking apps would never integrate Google's backup solution even though it "should" be secure, banks are (understandably) really, really protective - hence why normally banking apps don't even allow screenshots.
When using Google's method to restore your backup from the cloud, it'll install every single app that came from the Play Store - banking apps included - it will only install app data for the apps that has been enabled on by the developer.
100 GB shouldn't limit your backups - that's plenty for app data. For most people, at least those who aren't entrenched deeper into the Google system, the default-free Google plan of 15 GB should be enough too.
Makes sense, thanks sir for the clarity !
Bests,
Kevin
