you have to try it to know. as far as i heard 4.4.4 is not always possible to s-off using firewater.
it also depends on your cid.

Okay, I will try. Tomorrow I will get my M8 back from the repair company.

Firewater don't work, it's only Sunshine that can get you S-Off.

And again. Firewater MIGHT work, no harm in trying. When it fails use sunshine.......

I would but I don't have time to go back to the store tonight if it doesn't work.
Or will anything bad happen if it fails?

Why would you try a method to S-OFF intended for other devices with this one? It would be a nice starting point to screw up the device though :good:

You need to unlock from htcdev first then use weaksauce.

Weak sauce is for temp root with out unlocking or flashing super su binaries. I didn't want to unlock and only s-off but now i'm unable to. You dont need htcdev for weak sauce but it only works on the Verizon m8.

Correct. Here is exactly what I did in order. Unlocked the bootloader first via HTC Dev. Installed custom recovery and perm root via the HTC Toolkit. Then followed instructions on the Firewater link. Have S-Off, TWRP and Root now.

Did you lose the preload apps from /data/preload ?
I want to get a backup of those before I HTC Dev unlock if possible. I'm looking at the libs in system to see if I can find another one that would work for weaksauce. (I.E. it is just renamed and has the same exports)

If it's empty you lost them. I don't know their names, because without root, I can't get a directory listing.

Can't find anything that has an export for: "CopyFileCtl" which means no weaksauce on this phone. It looks like HTC Dev Unlock works fine, and so does the firewater s-off but you can't do it without flashing a recovery yet.

Can you confirm if /data/preload is empty after the htc unlock?
Barking up the wrong tree with the library. The same vulnerability exists (from what I have seen) but needs to be exploited in a different route than how the current version of weaksauce is doing it. I didn't build it for compatibility, i built it for easy of testing, as I do not have the device myself.
Dump system, upload it somewhere for me, no promises as I normally don't like to do roots for unlockable phones, but I am interested in finishing the exploit (the one I released is not "finished", as I didn't have the device when I wrote it, just the firmware).

You should try firewater. If it doesn't work for you then you are out of luck. Either pay the $25 once and then flash whatever you like, or you will just wait for the official OTA
the $25 is worth it :good:

Bootloader Update for Lollipop

I have an AT&T CWM_001 m8 and I want to flash cyanogenmod 12 (a lollipop rom) but it won't let me because my bootloader is out of date. Could somebody tell me how I can update it or how I can successfully flash an android 5.0 rom. Thank you.
Update: I think I need firmware 3.19.000. How do I get this?

Yes I am running 4.4.2.
He means 4.4.4 the firmware you are on is super old if you're s-off just download a 4.4.4 ruu and you should be good if you're s-on its a pain

Easiest ways to s-off?
Sunshine
Since you're on 4.4.2 firewater is free its fairly easy as well but you do need a windows PC and adb and on it as well if you don't have that, sunshine should work but it's 25 dollars

No, firewater = offline ! Firewater needs to do an online check with the developers server and that is offline.
So therefore firewater will not work .....ever !
Oh I didn't know it did an online check

No problem, now you do
Sunshine is the only way to s-off now that is the easiest way to get to lolipop you can stay s-on and download a 4.4.2 backup for your specific carrier then flash stock recovery check firmware version to get the right recovery for your firmware

So if I achieve s-off then flash a 4.4.4 ruu my bootloader will be updated to 3.19.0.0000 and I can install the cyanogenmod 12 rom I want to install?
