[Q] My phone restarts when i try to make a backup - Samsung Galaxy Fame

Hi, recently I root my phone (GT-S6810P) for first time with Motochopper method and now it restarts many times, after install titanium backup and when i tried to make a backup of all system data, the phone restarts before it finalize.
I'm having problems with the original rom becouse my phone is running very slow, and i would like to install another rom, but I new on this root world so I don't know how to restore my important data and my apps after installing the new rom.
Thank you

If nothing helps, backup your Music, Contacts etc. with Samsung Kies Software. Save your apps as .apk files (for example with Titanium or Appmonster 3). "In-App-Data" like game scores can be saved with Helium application. For pictures and other data connect your phone to PC and copy it. Settings and Passwords are saved with your Google account, I think. Hope this helps...

Help with Titanium Backup

I have a backup of my Gingerbread version (2.3.3) working fine.
Yesterday, I finally found a Brazilian firmware to my I9000 and tried to test it.
Now, I'm using the Froyo version (2.2.1) downloaded from Kies and I'm having a problem to restore some files.
All my games and apps from Market are restored without any problem.
When I try to restore my contacts I get the message: Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped.
The process android.process.acore has stopped.
I have to FC them and it enters in this looping.
I tried to restore only the data (the green ones) without any luck.
I tried all kind of settings in the TB, but without success.
What can I do ?
Thanks a lot.
Factory reset first .
jje
Thanks, but I already tried it before posting.
This problems seems to be related with Google Account Sync.
I'm not sure that restoring from a newer version to an older one will work.
Personally I never restore system data and settings with TB (except the sms storage), only applications. I believe that it is more safe to do the basic configurations manually than restore it from backup.
I use my Google accounts to store the contacts, they sync without issues.
Restoring system data like that never works well via Titanium.
I would go back into recovery, clear cache and dalvik, then do a factory reset.
Go back to Titanium, restore the apps you wish WITHOUT data. Then sync your gmail to get your contacts back.
Create a google account just for the contacts and calendar, thats what I did...
Thanks a lot for the tips.
I tried all these tips but didn't work.
I had to restore only my programs and games from market and imported my contacts from my sim card.
As always happens, I had to edit every contact, because the first name always is in the last name field and even having the option to not show the contacts from sim card, I the same contacts twice in the list and had to del them.
The worst problem was after restoring my programs and games from market. They are working fine, but market can't identify them as a file already downloaded.
I tried to use the Market Doctor option but it didn't work.
I had to download them again from market.I think it happens because I'm not using an English version anymore.
At least after trying a lot, I'm using a Brazilian firmware downloaded from Kies.
No more problem of running a program with Brazilian language, but as the firmware was in English, these programs run in English language too.

[Q] Lose data with flashing a new rom?

I have several apps and data on my Desire... Currently I am running a MIUI-rom. I already made a backup of the rom... If I decide to flash a new rom, does that mean I will lose all my data, like saves from games and stuff like that?
hi,
so if you dont backup them you will lose them probably
TitatniumBackup can save your user apps + data, so this will not be lost
but system data(wifi spots, contacts, bookmarks, ...) could also be backuped but with care!
if you change the android version most of the system apps change and also if you change rom type it will probably not work.
i can tell you how i do save all my data.
1. i do a complete nandroidbackup (if you want 2 go back from where you came)
2. a Titanium´Backup (sometimes system data could also be restored)
3. i use MyPhoneExplorer to backup my Contacts
4. MyBackup Root, to save my Sms/mms and other stuff (exept from Contact wich are put in the Google Account i like the app
Sounds a little bit much, but most of the apps have advantages at some point but also flaws on a other point!
ps.: yep i know most of them could be stored in the cloud but i like it lokal
I use the Google backup feature when registering my account on first boot.
Last time, all my user apps and data restored, plus wifi profiles, system settings etc (even my wallpaper) were reapplied. I did nandroid and TiBu also but didn't use them at all!
To use this you could nandroid backup, wipe everything, restore and check the options re backup when registering. Then wipe everything again, flash rom of choice, and wait. You may need a reboot for all the changes to take effect!
that kind of datas are stored in SDCard, so if you don't format it, you should not have problems, but always do a backup before flashing

Backups

How does one do a full backup of their phone? I see no option in twrp for backing up the internal sd card, and i see support for that was removed from cwm back in version 4 ( unless I'm reading this wrong )...
I know I can just copy it off to my pc or what ever, but that's not really a clean solution for doing backup / restores across multiple roms as it will just involve another process and make it so i have got to be at home to swap..
Any solutions?
Depends if your phone is rooted or not, I believe a rooted phone can do more of a "full" backup but what I usually do is backup all my photos and songs with USB to the computer. For SMS apps and app data and system settings and data I personally like two apps - My backup pro and Titanium Backup PRO which requires root. Just visit the apps in the play store to compare. I recommend doing pictures and music manually cause I've had several issues with the backup apps doing my photos as when I restore them they are corrupt

[Q] Absolute Best SMS/MMS Backup/Recovery

Have you ever lost your SMS/MMS messages restoring or installing new ROMs?
If you're like me, when you restore a Nandroid backup you do not want to have to lose your SMS/MMS, Phone Log, Contacts, etc.
I have bought or downloaded so many MMS backup stuff it ain't funny! All of them either Jumble up the chronologic order or miss a whole bunch of items and just don't work!
I have finally (for the better part of a year now) found a perfect solution, No Root Required, but if you're rooted, it still works fine.
Before I change roms, restore roms or anything that might alter the text messaging stuff, I do a backup of my sms/mms, phone log and contacts. (there are others to choose from as well) using MY BACKUP PRO, I first used My Backup Free, but since it worked so well, I bought the Pro version to support the author.
After I restore any previous nandroid, I reboot and go to the native Messaging app and DELETE ALL THE MESSAGES.
With a new rom, just install the rom, go to market and install Backup pro..
Then I simply open My Backup and restore the last backup I did and reboot. Simple, FAST, and I have never had any problems.
ALL THE MESSAGES are in the EXACT order and all the pictures in the MMS restorations are just like they were before I recovered the Nandroid. It's like I never changed anything! That is how I want it to work, and it does. (I have over 2,500 messages)
If you find yourself needing/wanting to save the stuff you have and want to reload a different ROM or Nandroid backup, You might just want to try this way of doing it. You just might be surprised as to how easy and fast this is.
I have configured My Backup to use the ExtSDcard as the repository for my backups, so that it makes things workable.
if you don't have an external SDcard, just do the backup, and copy the backup file to your PC so you can do the recovery after reinstalling The My backup app. If you cannot connect to the PC you can use AirDroid or even Gmail it to yourself.
Just my 2 cents ... For anyone that tinkers with their phone.
Aloha and Good Luck!!

How to restore contacts, etc.

Hello everyone,
I have been running the 4.3 stock ATT ROM, rooted, for the last few years, and I recently decided to try out a custom ROM. I ran CyanogenMod on my last Android phone (Aria) and as pretty happy with it, so I decided to try it first. I synced everything with Kies, backed up my OS with CM, and used the CyanogenMod installer to install CyanogenMod 11.0. Everything went well, but when I tried to connect to Kies to restore my contacts, I discovered that it's not compatible with CyanogenMod. Not too surprising, but annoying nonetheless. I also discovered that my backup disappeared; apparently CM was set to backup to internal memory and I failed to move the backup off before installing CyanogenMod. I'm wondering if anyone knows any way to get my data, especially my contacts, back. I'm sure I could flash back to a stock ROM and sync with Kies, but then I'm unsure how to best export the data and import it into CyanogenMod. What I'd really prefer is some way to extract the data from Kies and import it to CyanogenMod without having to go back to stock ROM. Any suggestions or solutions?
Thanks
I've never tried this tool (or kies at all for that matter), but it sounds promising for your situation. http://www.mobile-phone-transfer.com/extract-data-from-kies-backup-sbu-file.html
Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded the program and tried the free trial version. It found multiple backup files with text messages and call logs in them, but said there were no contacts in any of them. I guess I'm going to flash stock rom to see if the contacts are really in the backups or not. Any suggestions for how to export and transfer them if I get everything restored to the stock rom?

The contacts app on the phone should be able to export them to a .vcf file. You can keep the file as a backup and use it for import/export from contacts on other ROMs. I don't remember exactly how to get there on touchwiz, but if you poke around contacts settings a little bit I don't think it will be too hard to find.

Thanks again. For anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation, here's what happened. I did find how to export contacts to vcf file; it's pretty easy to find in the menu of the contacts app. I wanted to take my text messages and other settings, so I looked into programs to do that. I tried GO backup, but the upgrade process to the pro version is broken and support not responding, so I went with Titanium Backup. I flashed back to the stock 4.3 rom as described in a thread here (sorry I can't post links yet), restored all my data with Samsung Kies, but made the mistake of letting the phone install a software update. This put me at 4.4.2 with Knox active, and Titanium Backup needs root access. I regained root access by installing CWM using Odin 3.07 in dl mode as described elsewhere, pulling the battery after install to prevent stock recovery from reinstalling, booting to CWM recovery, and installing supersu binary. Then I installed supersu from the store and allowed it to update itself and block Knox, and disabled Knox as follows: (this is quoted from elsewhere, I can't post links yet)
"I installed Android Terminal Emulator from the Play store - granted it SuperSU access - and proceeded to type the following command(s):
su [enter]
pm disable com.sec.knox.seandroid
*NOTE - the above to lines require you to go to a new line after typing "su", the [enter] is only a reminder, DO NOT type [enter] after su"
At this point, I had stable root access, so I installed Titanium Backup Pro to backup by data. Unfortunately, I discovered that 4.4.2 has problems with permissions; Titanium Backup couldn't write to any location on my phone. After some more research, I installed SDCard Fix from the store and let it fix my permissions. This let me access my SD card with Titanium Backup, and I backed up everything I wanted. Then I installed my backup zip of CyanogenMod that I made before returning to 4.3 stock from CWM recovery and was back to CM and able to restore my data and apps from Titanium Backup.
Hope this helps someone else, but I would strongly suggest that before trying out a new ROM you use Titanium Backup or similar, and save a nandroid backup off the phone. That would have saved me a lot of trouble, but things have changed a lot since I last played with custom ROMs about 5 years ago, and I didn't do enough research first.
Or you could just use a google account and have all your contacts sync with no hassle.

I do have a Google account, but when I switched to CM Rom and told it to sync with Google, I got a lot of my apps re-installed (not all of them), but no contacts, SMS or MMS, etc. Not sure why I didn't get any contacts, possibly the old OS wasn't set to sync contacts to Google. Just reinforces being thorough in research and preparation before trying to change ROMs.
