[Q] Downgrade to KitKat 4.x.x from 5.0 on GPE - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated my V-510 to Lollipop but I can't stand it. It is currently stock (no root, locked bootloader).
1. Can I unlock the bootloader at this point?
2. Can I downgrade to KitKat? (preferably a custom ROM)
I appreciate anyone's input.
Edit: bump

Yes, there is a thread somewhere in development that contains 4.4.4.
First:
To unlock your boot loader, you will need adb installed on your computer. First post in General should tell you how.
To root, you will need to install SuperSu Beta from here on XDA.
Then the latest TWRP from development.
Then MAKE A BACKUP!!
After that you can download 4.4.4. And install through twrp .
After that, you can (and should) install the sleekai kernel for KitKat in the development section.

Thanks for your help. I hope this helps other people who were also unpleasantly surprised by the ugliness of Lollipop. Once I have time to this, I will make sure to post my results here, hopefully nothing breaks.

Is the phone rooted as well? Have you made any other modifications to the phone?
the update wont flash through twrp since its a custom recovery. (thats what I know)
anyways, assuming that you have your bootloader unlocked and a custom recovery installed, why dont you just do a backup of ur current rom and flash a new custom rom like viper or insert coin. they provide the latest updates.

You're getting different advice cause you're double-posting and not sticking to one person's advice
Me and most people do have life's families & jobs we just don't sit here to help people out as I have mentioned before I give you loads of information to help you and as so as other me members. We all wasn't born to know how to root and unlock bootloaders or get s-off some people know more and they write great information on how to do it now go and use Google and the search function what is implemented into xda to stop multiple posts.

[Q] ROM Suggestions

Hello There,
I have a HTC One m8 and I'm considering Rooting it and installing a custom ROM.
Since I tried rooting once, and it somehow stopped me from getting OTA updates.
I'm a noob when it comes to that kind of stuff, I read lots of articles on how to do it, but I still couldn't manage. So I'll probably need a step by step guide
My phone is a Canadian unlocked Bell phone (From Canada) and running android lollipop 5.0.1.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a Million!

to install a ROM you don't need to be rooted, you just need to have your bootloader unlocked and then install a custom recovery such as TWRP that will allow you to flash a ROM.

Yes, but any mods or tweaks available in that ROM will probably need root access. As long as it is a near stock ROM there shouldn't be any problems.
Thanks Guys!
But if I install a custom recovery, will I still be able to install OTA updates?

No. But you can always flash the stock recovery back to get OTAs when your carrier updates.
Or you could just flash the firmware manually of course.
Any idea where i can find those?
I'm using a Bell HTC one m8, I never found a stock recovery for my phone.
Thanks again!

By looking at the "sticky" threads at the top of the General M8 forum section. For that matter, start reading up on the threads linked in the Index thread (found in the same place) as well as the FAQ sticky at the top of this Q&A forum section.
Read read read, learn and understand. That will be much more benefit to you than someone leading you by the hand step-by-step.

Rooting Stock ROM

Guys,
I need help regarding root of Stock ROM Lollipop. 5.0.
I unlocked boot loader, flashed twrp recovery but when it comes to flash rooting tools (Android revolution hd rooting tool) it does not flash and does not root the ROM. In recovery it says failed/ unable to mount cache ...
Am I doing something wrong or it the zip file which may not be compatible with stock rom?
Do you guys have any zip file which can root stock rom or the best would be if there is any rom already rooted but not modified. I like to stick to stock rom but want to get rid of bloatware.
I appreciate any advice, help or solution which may you provide to me.
Please do not ask me to search on google or XDA because I already did it and bother many people in the specific forums. As a result that they could not provide me with the solution I was forced to write in Help& Troubleshooting forum.

Don't use a tool.
Download the update SuperSU.zip from here and flash it in recovery.
After the flash, find SuperSU in your app drawer and open it. You will be prompted to update binaries. Do that.
That's it. You are rooted.

I second that. The tool used by the OP is probably not updated to work on Lollipop.
Also, OP should make sure to run an updated version of TWRP (2.8.7) as anything but the last few (several?) versions of TWRP will not work on the Lollipop hboot.

D851 Stuck on KK 4.4.2. Need help upgrading to latest version of stock android.

As per title I'm stuck with T-Mobile on the Android KitKat 4.4.2 version. I have root, TWRP, Bootloader is unlocked, and I know how to use backup apps such as Titanium.(thank you guides)
What I'm trying to do is upgrade to the latest version of stock Android without losing root, apps and TWRP. Is there a way to do something like this?
Sorry if this is a newbie question. Thanks to anyone who helps me out in advanced!

yes it's very easy if you already have root and twrp. Download the latest updated rom you want and flash the bootstrap 1st then the rom. There's roms that already have root access so it's even easier
I have a very vague understanding how any of this works. I managed to get this far thanks to everyone who helped make the tutorials I used to make it to were I am now.
What exactly is a bootstrap?
Same for the ROM Would it be easier to aquire an OTA with root so I wouldn't have to go through all the time and effort that Titanium backups take? Or would I still lose all my apps? I'm trying to do this the as hassle free as possible. If the OTA suggestion is not an option, where would I find a rooted stock Android Marshmallow ROM(if such exists)? Or would I not be able to jump from KK to MM?..
Thanks for your reply! and again sorry for being a complete script kiddie

Rooting 6.0 M8

Hey guys,
Newbie here, looking to root my M8 running on Android 6.0
I've been reading a bit and came across first unlocking bootloader, any of you guys know what to do afterwards on 6.0 since the guides I've read are on M8s running 4.4 and 5.0?
I want to flash RESURRECTION REMIX v5.8.2, any help pls?
Also, does anyone know if this ROM supports Substratum theme engine?
Thanks a lot in advance guys!
To be clear, there is a difference between just rooting (stock ROM), and process for flashing a custom ROM. Main reason for confusion, is that you do not need to root in order to flash a custom ROM (contrary to some other devices). You simply need an unlocked bootloader, and custom recovery TWRP.
Before you unlock the bootloader, backup any of your data (off-phone to computer, SD, etc.) you want to keep; as the phone will be wiped when you unlock the bootloader.
After unlocking the bootloader, just flash TWRP using fastboot. You should use current TWRP version, which is 3.1.0-0 which you can get here: https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
After that, just put the desired ROM on the phone, boot into TWRP, backup your current (stock) ROM (in case you want or need to revert) then do default wipe in TWRP (data, Dalvik, cache) and install the ROM.
I don't know if RR supports substratum. Just check or search the RR ROM thread.
Also, questions should be posted to the Q&A section, not General. So I'll ask the mods to move this thread.

no need for another kernel or s-off

To be clear, the kernel flashes with the ROM on this device, and that is true with s-on.
There are older HTC devices, where you had to flash the kernel separately by fastboot, or have s-off (in which case, kernel would flash with the ROM). But none of this ever applied to the M8.

Thanks for the clarification, that's probably why i got confused (watched some older video on rooting, kernel, c roms and so on). So which parts of software (or hardware) would you want to manipulate with or change that would require s-off?

Always be sure to research the root/mod methods for your specific device (not just another HTC phone, etc.). Every phone has its own peculiarities and nuances.

There is a number of modifications that require s-off, such as changing CID/MID, flashing modified hboots, manually flashing radios, flashing older version RUU ("downgrading") and a number of other things.
But for root, flashing ROMs, and most other common mods, just having an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery TWRP and s-on is enough.

My question is the same, how to root HTC ONE M8,
However, I installed a Custom WOLLA.SENSE7.MM.V3 using this link:

What is the best/safest method to root now.

Root and xposed is tow different things you need root for something and xposed for a different thing
for example you don't need root to have a working xposed framework ( some modules require root though )
So it's up to you and what you will use
We can tell you what you have to do if you tell us what you up to

What I think he meant was: if you want to use Xposed, read and understand about it first. You should have read the basic instructions on how to install it.

In order for xposed to work, you need to flash the xposed framework using TWRP, period. It's not complicated, and it's stated in the instructions clearly.

I am a bit confused here, the situation is like this: I need Xposed installed in order to use some modules mainly (Xprivacy..).
I have tried to install TWRP using Adb (Attached) which I assume it wasn't successful so far.
how to proceed now.
