Regular Amazon Apps to Fire TV Stick - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the FIre TV Stick and have been quite impressed with it so far. I have purchased a bunch of apps from the Amazon Appstore for my phone/tablets, and would like to give them a try on the stick through sideloading. Some of these have been Fire TV apps as well so the controls should work with the stick, or at least I'm hoping so. Is there any way to download the APKs directly from the appstore or is the only way to get them by recovering the apks that I've downloaded to my phone or tablet with a backup utility? Many I no longer have on the phone or tablet, so I would have to reinstall them first, then back up and extract. If there was a more direct method of gaining them, I'd appreciate it. I know there is with the Google Play Store, but hoping for something similar with Amazon.

[Q] cannot setup google play store properly

Hey guys, I got myself the firetv yesterday, and have gotten to rooting the device, and have set up xbmc.
One of the main apps that I want to use is hbogo, and I understand it is possible to do so using the google play store. I have got the google play store all downloaded and ready to go, and used the market helper app technique to trick it to thinking its an ASUS tablet, as outlined below:
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-the-amazon-fire-tv/
and used
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-trick-google-play-store-into-allowing-all-apps/
However, the play store still says the device is not supported. I have tried clearing caches and data files but to no avail. Any advice will be appreciated. TIA
Actually, I got it to work- the key was to refresh it using google dashboard, and wait for a bit until the system reads it.
However, as I was using the hbogo application, I noticed that the resolution on the downloaded videos are not hd. I first thought it was because the device setting was for the nexus 7 tablet, but I saw that that device has a 1280 by 800 resolution, and therefore hbogo should stream at HD quality, correct? I have a 720p tv, so I don't need to go to 1080p, but I can definitely notice a lower streaming quality when comparing hbogo from the firetv vs the past when I used a roku 3.
Any help will be appreciated.
If both use apps, you can't properly compare them to each other as the same thing because Roku is Apple while Fire TV is Android.
The two apps are much different from each other.
It must be a quality issue with the Android app in comparison to the Roku app.
Edit: DERP
^ wut?
Roku has nothing to do with apple. They're actually direct competitors with apple tv lol
Anyone having issues with Google Play restoring back to its Fire TV state without reboot?
Market Helper notes say that it should not restore back to Fire TV, unless there is a reboot or you actively restore it back to normal.
However, I have noticed that my Play Store/ Android Device Manager reverts back to Fire TV state even without reboot...
For example, I have a full Play Store with many compatible apps one evening, and then the Fire TV goes to sleep (not rebooted) and the following day, the Play Store is back to its state in which there are lots of non-compatible apps. I then have to use Market Helper to set it to be recognized as a Nexus 7 again.
Thanks.

Firestopper and current Amazon Fire TV 2 build.

Hi,
I wonder if someone can answer a quick question for me. I currently have two Fire TV 1's and a Fire TV stick. All have the old Firestopper app installed where the home button continues to take you to the Firestarter interface, unlike the new version. They've all been blocked from firmware updates. My question is this. I need another FIre TV box and it looks like I'll be getting a 2nd generation Fire TV. Can someone tell me if the latest build on the Fire TV 2 continues to work with the old Firestopper app, as I was going to sideload it because it continues to be incredibly useful, but only with the home button function working. If the latest build for the Fire TV 2 prevents that, I'd rather know before buying one.
Thanks for any help provided.
Unfortunately, the firestopper app no longer works with the newer firmware, which is on at new model fire tv box or stick that u buy.
I found out, it does work, but it's not quite as useful anymore since double clicking on the home button brings up the app menu anyway, but you can still run firestarter, although it's kind of redundant as it just brings up another app menu. On the upside, it still does allow you to install Kodi without having to sideload it. Fortunately my older Fire devices still work with Firestarter and the new one I purchased, I realized it's not as crucial anymore.
Thanks for responding,

Chrome and Google Photos on Fire TV?

So I'm trying to find out if it's even possible (without root) to put Chrome and/or Google Photos on my new Fire TV.
I tried using Apps2Fire and wasn't successful. Chrome failed to install and while Google Photos did install successfully, it would force stop when attempting to log into my account.
Anyway, thought I'd ask. Kinda new to the Fire TV. Thanks for the info!
I tried and failed with Google photos on a non rooted fire TV 2. The issue you'll face is in the Google play services framework. You can side load it but I didn't manage to find a higher enough latter build that would run on the fire TV to allow Google photos to run as it should.
However I do suggest getting Pfolio and side load it to your fire TV. Works perfectly and navigation with the fire remote is perfect.

To get it, use APK Downloader in Chrome and sideload it.

[help] Tunnelbear for Fire TV (3rd generation)

Hi!
When I try to install tunnelbear on the fire tv I get an error about no matching ABIS. That doesn't happen however if I install it on the old fire tv box (haven't tried a stick). Any idea what this is about? I'm using Easy Fire Tools to do it, which I believe is the only android app that currently works with the 3rd generation box.
Thanks
Alright I was able to get around it by side loading aptoide and then installing from there. Unfortunately it was for nothing as the app requires Google play services.
