[Q] VS985 12B root? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just upgraded from my old Galaxy S3 and got this lovely Verizon LG G3. I had rooted my Galaxy, and the Razr before that. Looking through the threads it seemed quite easy, but I realized that all the root options I was seeing were for older software versions. Is there a way to root running this software version or do I simply need to give it time for someone to figure out a way to root this? Or do some of the root methods I have seen work on this software? I tried one and it said my device had been patched and that deterred me from trying again.
Sorry if I am asking a fairly dumb question. Rooting my Razr was awesome. Then I switched to the S3 and had knox to deal with and everything got a bit more complicated. Now I'm using a LG phone and it has confused me again! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Downgrade to firmware that is supported by root and then root.

I just rooted for the first time downgrading from 12B to 10B( I think?) following these steps:

(sorry, can't post likes cause I'm a n00000b )
Good luck!

Rooting the phone is really easy, infact you can do it without even using a PC (towelroot). At the moment there is no custom recovery, but hopefully we will see that change once the phone is released in more countries (later this week).
As for unroot, one simple method would be to re-flash stock, but I assume you are looking for an easier solution than that.
That's what I am looking for too because of the bloody Barclays Bank app.
I want to root my LG G3, block ads, bloatware etc and then unroot to get Barklays app working
S4min, Grand 2, Note 2 - I always rooted phones and then unrooted by uninstalling root in SuperSu app.
Is there any similar method for LG G3?
Re-flashing to unroot doesn't make sense for me cos I will loose everything I needed the root for

I don't have my G3 yet to check (and not sure I will be rooting it straight away when I do get it, I want to see how far I can go without root first), but I cannot see why the unroot method in SuperSU would not work.

Flashing back to stock should take you back as if you have never rooted. Assuming all you did was root the phone.
If/when there are further modifications such as unlocking bootloader and flashing custom recovery images this might change.

Question about rooting LG G2 (Sprint) and OTA Updates.

Good afternoon guys,
I have a few set of questions and I will be glad if someone is able to kindly help me out. Please keep in mind that I am not an android expert as far as rooting, custom roms, etc... So I ask for patience from you guys!
Now... into the questions. I got my LG G2 2 weeks ago from Sprint. Great solid phone with killer specs. I previously had a Galaxy Epic 4G Touch. I was looking into rooting my LG G2 phone. However, somewhere in an article online, I read that, if I were to root my LG, I would no longer receive OTA software updates... Like an updated android version for example.. Is that true? I dont care about loosing root after updating. I just dont want to root my phone, receive an OTA update and then mess up my phone.. So thats my first question.
Next... I've done quite a few research online on how to root the G2 from sprint. What i am currently having issues with is finding the drivers. I know I must install them prior to attempting anything else. I read that I could use the Tmobile version drivers even though I am on sprint. But no luck finding those either. Could someone provide me with a link to download the drivers? Thanks! (Windows 8)
And last... I've seen many methods on rooting this device, that at the end, was confused on which one to use. Soo.. could someone share a link of a working method to root the LG G2 from Sprint (Android 4.4.2)
Thank you guys and I will be very grateful for any help. :good:
Any change of the android operating system with ota can fail. They are looking it seems note for any excuse to break the phone if you do anything. Best idea is to make sure you can unroot, then take ota.
Best way to root is go with ioroot25. I believe it is in lg g2 general.

Thank you for your reply.
How would I unroot my G2? Would I use ioroot25? Or is there some type of app that I would have to download? Correct me if I'm wrong, but... Is it possible to unroot with SuperSU ones is installed on your phone after a sucessful root?
Thanks.! :good:
SuperSU can unroot (and temp unroot, though anybodies guess if it'll survive an OTA). There's several other temp unrooters, I often use Hide My Root (try to get some perspective on what the device *actually* works like). Otherwise, removing su, supersu, busybox (if installed) and whatever else until /system looks unmodified works. If there's custom recovery, you (as well as I) probably need to flash that back to stock as well. Or.. quite likely there will be a version around to flash without taking the actual OTA update if there isn't already (haven't checked the other thread). That'll likely be the easiest rather than bother with redoing the work to fix it up again.
Nothing is risk-free of course, but unrooted and flashed back to stock recovery it should be at least fairly unlikely to hurt anything. Of course that's often the stuff I mess up.

Well I took a OTA update this morning not thinking.....rooted but stock rom and now my phone wont come out of recovery.....Trying to fix this now...ugg! Not fun

First time Rooting, vs98611a, advice? Should I update first or stick with 11a?

So, I've never rooted a phone before, a tablet yes, but that was almost 10 years ago. I can follow instructions, and am technically literate, but I'm worried about bricking my phone, so simple is better. Basicly I have an verizon LG G4 that I want to root. Primarily because I need to do some GPS spoofing, and mobile hotspot stuff. The version is 11a, Should I be trying to update that first? or is there a guide out there somewhere? I've found this thread

Is this what I'm looking for?
I'm not sure if my software version matters or will limit my root options in anyway. Thanks in advance!

Help with my New LG g3 As985

So i recently purchased the Lg G3 on Ebay because it was on sale and it seem like a good deal...............anyway ive had lots of phones from iphones to androids, i always love to root my devices now the issue now is that i cant seem to find a way to root this g3 with the one click root method or any other method (expect Kingroot). Everytime i try the one click root or any root it does all the loading and process and reboots but no super su or root happens. I finally looked around and found a post that said to use kingroot and i did and it worked, but the reason i want to root my device is to flash other roms and tinker with other things and i dont know how to do that without a recovery menu like twrp. I have the LG G3 AS985 which has literally no support anywhere when it comes to rooting or anything. So if i can get someone that knows either how to root it with one click or with kingroot and have the recovery work with it OR if he can at least show me how i can do it without a recovery meaning flash roms and stuff without a recovery using kingroot . (im a noob sorry) or if i can at least upgrade to marshmallow to have something a little nicer anyway any help would be great.
sidenote: i heard that i may be able to use the vs985 recovery with the as985 but i really dont want to brick my phone. Again im a noob so go easy on me pls.
Tried to post link but im a new user so here is the phone
Phone: LG G3 AS985
Firmware: 5.0.1

Root help - Is it even possible?

Hi folks.
Been lurking for a while, but this is my first post.
I've been looking into rooting my SM-G870W (Galaxy S5 Active, Canadian, Telus) for a while now. It's currently updated to Android 6.0.1.
I've read a lot of different information and I've held off on actually trying it because of several posters saying they've bricked their phone or had no luck.
To the best of my knowledge and research, there is no "plug and play" app or program that will root automatically. Is this accurate?
I have read of manual recommendations or guides that say they work.
This site, being the foremost authority as far as I'm concerned, is my last step in research.
Can anyone please advise if this is possible for this phone and version?
If so, is there an existing guide that is reputable that I could follow?
I thank you in advance.
A little late to post. But I am having no luck rooting my SM-870W on Telus. I used Odin and the CF-Auto-Root-kltecanactive-kltevlactive-smg870w for Marshmallow 6.0.1
I just end up with "Recovery is SeAndroid enforcing"
I then have to flash back the stock rom
Tomorrow when I have time, I am going to downgrade back to Lollipop to root it. If successful, then I will use Flashfire to update to Marshmallow 6.0.1 and see how that goes.
Well so far I successfully downgraded my phone back to Lollipop and rerooted it. . Tomorrow or next week will try updating with flashfire
I tried again to root marshmallow using flashfire, and it boot looped. So just going to stay on Lollipop and keep rooted. Will probably upgrade phone soon anyway. I don't know how others on youtube etc say they have done it, but it's not working for me.
Thanks for posting
I too have the same model phone and I'm running into the exact same issue you are. Thanks for posting which lets me know I'm not the only one facing this problem
