Amazon Fire TV - Keeps Restarting

I have notice that my Amazon Fire TV keeps restarting. I have notice this over 2 to3 times a day. The FTV feels warm and I was wondering, if anyone experience or read about overheating issues (I'm guessing). My FTV is rooted and the software version is "511070220". I thought it might be a XBMC Skin but I tried the Amber, Convergence and the Confluence but no success. Do anyone have any suggestions to fix this issue?
Mine restarts to.
Did you find out what it was?
i don't have this problem but i have only had my aftv for few weeks. It could be overheating, my fire tv sit tv desk but open area.
Have you tried keeping the fire tv unplug for few hours and start it again and keep the fire tv in open area and see if that helps?
Also, how long have you had your firetv?
Thanks

Why specifically do you need to reboot? (Audio issues, freezes, ?) It might make a difference in the finding the right person to diagnose. Does it sleep or does it stay on overnight?

yes the fire tv goes to sleep but in the morning The fire tv is non responsive cant do anything with remote no lights on front and blank screen.
Try using CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your bluetooth keyboard.
I found it by accident -- it will actually reset the Fire TV instantly.
I've had the same problem on both my unrooted devices.
I usually reboot using the remote (hold down the main clicking button + play)
Is you firetv usually idle with kodi running? i always have kodi running when this happens
I don't have a Fire TV, but I have had this problem with my Fire TV Stick, which was hooked to my Samsung TV and now my Vizio TV. Every time I go to use the Fire stick, I have to unplug it from power and plug it back in. It is very annoying. I don't get any messages, just a black screen.

I have the same problem. It seems to be getting worse. Pretty much everytime i use it it happens.
This happens to me as well. When plugged into my VIZIO tv, and running Kodi 17.2, the Fire TV will spontaneously enter a reboot cycle and will remain there until I unplug the power, wait 2 minutes and plug it in again. I have the new Fire TV 4k (hanging dongle), but this also happened when i had a quad core Fire TV Stick.. my original Fire TV Stick (with Voice Remote) continues to operate without issue to this day, albeit much slower since Amazon removed the Youtube app.
Oddly, the same device does NOT suffer from this issue if I plug it into my LG tv... Could it be an issue with the HDMI port (Port 1 (ARC) that I am plugged into??
Glad to know im not alone. Sometimes it will last for days, sometimes not.
I do use "advanced task killer" and "fast reboot" to kill kodi, netflix, firefox etc when Im not using them.
Guys, i used to have exact same problem and luckily was able to fix it. In my case as soon as the aftv goes in sleep mode it reboots in recovery mode . So because i have the TWRP customer recovery the box is not able to apply that update because is not the stock recovery. the only way to get it back to home GUI is to reboot the box from recovery. That was extremely annoying for me. A while ago i used to block the updates from amazon.com by using opendns, but stopped using it so the box becomes open for updates which automatically get downloaded on the box. Because im rooted there is a easy way of blocking the updates on the box itself by using Method 1 http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-block-software-updates-on-the-amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick/. However this will stop working if you factory reset the box, if you do so you'll have to apply the blocking procedure again.
After the blocking is done just upgrade the box to the latest prerooted firmware from rbox and you're set. this is the link to the latest pre-rooted custom firmware for aftv1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/prerooted-stock-images-t2882337.
i hope that helps.
To add to stutunaru, Method 5 is equally important to apply through TWRP, after a fresh ROM flash and before the first full system boot.

[Q] Amazon Fire Stick HDCP Error

Hi guys, i recently found this site in order to sideload the xfinity app to my stick. I have only sideloaded the xfinity go app and wukong remote which both are successful.
I seem to get a blue screen whenever i try to watch a video. This blue screen yields the phrase "HDCP unauthorized. Content disabled." I can hear the full audio but only see the blue screen.
I have tried many streaming apps. This does not give me a problem with nfl now or watch espn, but hulu, amazon prime and netflix give me this error. Hulu will even show me the ads but when the show starts, the blue screen appears. Please help if possible. Thanks..

Sounds like you either got a bum unit or your HDTV has its heiny hairs wound up too tight. Did it do this out of the box? Have you tried it with another TV or monitor as a test?
I would also try resetting to factory and try it out before sideloading anything. I'm not too familiar with the internals so I'm not sure if the decryption keys are held in firmware or are burnt into the chip (that would be bad if the keys ever got revoked by your TV manfacturer). Are you running the latest FW?

Most likely the HDMI cable, happened to me on a Roku box.
Aftet much troubleshooting, the actual problem was the hdmi entension amazon provided with the amazon tv. It took many times to unplug/plug to get it working properly. The device works fine plugged in directly without the extension. Just be warned that that extension can be faulty at times.

Fire crashes while watching Netflix

Lately while in the middle of watching something on Netflix, my screen on my fire will go black and unresponsive. This has happened a few times. The only way I know to get it back is by power cycling it .
I have the newer Fire (not the stick) and its not rooted but I have FireStarter installed (and updated)

480p support broken in 5.2.4.0?

I have a gen 2 FireTV hooked to a TV that can only do 1080i and 480i/p. The FireTV doesn't support 1080i, and the TV doesn't support 1080p, so the FireTV falls back to 480p, which is fine. This has always worked until this latest 5.2.4.0 update. After the update it will not boot while connected to this TV. It will boot when connected to a 1080p device, but the upgrade is in a half completed state and every time it is restarted the optimize storage screen appears. I spent about an hour with Amazon support and they finally confirmed 480p should still work so they sent me a new device. Everything was fine until a few days later when the new device has updated itself and failed in the same manner. I'm sure this is a bug, but there's nothing Amazon can really do for me. Has anyone else had the same issue? Is it possible to fix this myself? Should I order a usb A-A cable to try to debug it?
When I power the device while hooked to this TV, I get a signal for a second or two, basically when the device should be switching to 480p and then displaying the FireTV logo, but then the signal goes away and the white light just fades in and out on the device indefinitely.
UPDATE: I managed to capture the device crashing via the system log. I booted it without the hdmi cable connected, logged in via adb shell, ran logcat, then plugged in the cable. The device can be seen switching to 480p, then the display service crashes which then leads to a cascade of other services crashing and eventually the device shuts down. I sent the log to Amazon, hopefully they'll be able to confirm it's an actual bug and fix it.
I also have noticed 480p is broken. Can't get Amazon to decide if it is a bug or a feature deprecation yet. It looks like a bug, because 480p is still listed in the options when you resolution cycle, but the device stays in 1080p mode for me.
