Note 3 won't charge unless rebooted. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Since last week my Note 3 won't charge unless I reboot it with the charger on. I brought a new charge port, switched roms, went back to stock and nothing. Any idea what it could be? Thanks in advance.

Bad USB cable? Does it work for transferring data?
Frank

Tried around 10 cables and a few wall chargers including original ones. With Tweaked I was getting "Dock is connected" With Hyperdrive I get "Battery charged" Always happens unless I insert the usb cable at reboot.

I had similar problem with an SM-N900V which I documented somewhere in one of the SM-N900V forums. I did not discover your trick to make it work so I swapped the battery with my newer SM-N900T. The battery fully charged in that device and has been normal ever since in both devices. The problem was caused by getting wet and I think the different device reset something in the battery.
Frank

I was thinking about the battery. Brought a new one online to see if that would do something as soon as it arrives. Thanks for the information. Will give it a try with a friend.

After re-reading this thread I recall that I have a similar problem with my Note (SGH-I717). This is probably not your problem but I'll describe it just to add information to this thread.
If the Note (SGH-I717) is off and I plug in power it turns on but does not charge. The solution is to turn on the device and wait until the first graphic image has passed before plugging in external power.

Did this problem get solved?

Not at all. It wasn't the battery either. I have no idea what else to try. Bootloader? Knox tripping? I really don't know.

You flashed a kernel that was either bad download or did not flash right. You need to odin back to stock not flash a stock rom. Have to odin back to clear all the wacky stuff.

Problem with phone charging.

My phone has been continuing to say that its charging after I unplug it. I've tried a new battery a new charger and wiping my battery stats. Has anyone else encountered this or know a fix?

If it were me, I'd Odin one click back to el29 stock rooted and see if it still happens.
Before doing anything, did you try to 'fix the permission' from the recovery and see it's still showing charging?
I don't think my computer or the phone recognizes the connection between the two for me to odin . Ill try fixing the permissions now and let you know if that works.

OK fixing permissions didn't fix it so I guess the next step is to Odin a stock rom. Can I use mobile Odin to flash a full stock unrooted rom?

Any help please? Can someone help me with flashing a stock unrooted rom with mobile Odin.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I had this exact problem last week. Just one day it continued to tell me that it was still charging even though it was unplugged. Also, it would randomly say "USB Connected" throughout the day. I think it may have been caused by the fact that I started using the Kindle Fire charger to charge it (it just happened to be conveniently by my bed). The Fire charger is much larger and I'm guessing higher voltage.
But I tried restoring to stock, jiggling/cleaning the usb port, and every other thing I could find on the internet, but none of that worked. I just took it in to Sprint, a technician confirmed the problem, and ordered me a new phone. Painless.
But I do have TEP... If you don't, I heard that instead of just swapping out your phone, they'll order another USB port and just swap that out instead.
Why don't you just mobile odin EL29 stock rooted? If your phone won't charge, you could get an external charger and charge batteries outside the phone. You could just rotate the batteries and always have a backup. There should be a link to the unrooted tar for EL29 in the one click odin EL29 post. Just follow the directions. No need to hold your hand, it will work, just read first then follow the directions.

You have corrosion in your charging port. Take your battery out, get a nice stiff-bristle paintbrush or a tooth brush, scrub your port out really well with alcohol. Make sure you dry it thoroughly before powering back up.

Screen/Network Bug

Hey Everyone,
I've had this weird bug on my Samsung Epic 4g Touch.
What happens is when im using my phone the screen will suddenly start to flicker and then id lose my service and then my phone would just shut down. After it shuts down if I try to reboot it, it will reboot and then it will shut down again almost immediately after using it. This bug isnt action specific and occurs at really strange times, I can get it to stop by waiting about 20 minutes or plugging it into a charger.H owever this ONLY HAPPENS WHEN IM RUNNING ON BATTERY it will not happen when im plugged into a charger. I know this isnt ROM specific because it has happened on multiple roms :/. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Info:
Samsung Epic 4g Touch
Current Rom: AOKP Milestone 6 no overclock
I'd replace the battery and/or check the phone without sd card.

Defective phone if it happens on multiple ROMs....take it back if the battery change doesn't work. You may have a refurbished phone that isn't up to par.

But I know it isn't refurbished....I got it the day it came out..what I might just do is wait for another nice android to come out and then trade this one in.
If I'm going to return this one, do I have to restore stock firmware?

Do you use battery monitor widget or use a battery besides the stock battery? I had this problem. I use three batteries all with different mah and I would use battery monitor widget to calibrate them. Once I have all my profiles set up by entering each batteries supposedly mah I would have this same problem. I was finally able to fix it a few days ago (after a few months of torture) by using the estimated value on the calibration screen in battery monitor widget. For some reason the app would estimate my batteries at a higher level or lower level than the battery claims. Hope that helps in any way..

Galaxy Note 2 wont turn on Help

My Galaxy Note 2 just started acting very strange recently.
When I try turning it on, it shows a battery with a circle in the middle then turns off and keeps trying to turn back on showing the battery with the circle. I'm assuming this is low battery but its not because just a few minutes earlier it was working and had 85% battery.
I can use Vol+home and get into twrp recovery without a problem and it shows 85% battery but I don't want to reset my phone right now? Does anyone know of a solution?
Also strangely yesterday I was having trouble trying to get it to charge it took a couple of attempts at inserting the charger for it to work.
I have a SGH-I317M running Cleanrom if that matters...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried to turn it on without battery? Just pull it out then connect the mobile to a charger (or PC). If it will open up, then suspect from your battery. Otherwise, might be something different causing this. (Because battery or electricity malfunctions screwing electronic devices and set them to act bizarre, I saw that before)
I just tried that and no response whatsoever are you sure it can turn on even without the battery and just from an outlet?
I had the same problem with my Galaxy S2. I had 3 batteries and have bought 2 more....all 5 do the same thing. USB OTG stopped working at the same time, though it still connects to a PC. Also my yellow triangle disappeared at the same time when the metal connectors seperated from a USB cable and got stuck in the port. I suspect that it fried something.
I tried different ROMs before I gave up last week and bought a GN2 instead.

I just tried that, I even gave up and did a factory reset. Same result it keeps trying to turn on and then shows empty batter then turns back off and repeats that.
I also left it in the charge until it reached 100% still same problem.
Do you have a second battery? Try it with a 2nd one. If not working than return and claim warranty.

I think CM 10.1 killed my GS-III

Since December I've been running CM10 on my GS-III with little to no issues. I flash CM 10.1 mid January and even though it was an unstable nightly it was very stable.
Flashing the nightlies as they became available with no issues at all.
Then today my phone starts slowing down and froze up.
Keep in mind that I hadn't flashed a nightly in like a day or 2 do I had been using the past nightly as a daily driver.
When my phone decided to freeze I rebooted it and it booted just fine.
About 2 minutes in the screen goes black. Holding the power button it's unresponsive.
Now my phone is completely unresponsive to all button presses. I've tried the 3 button combos for recovery and download mode with no luck. I've even held the buttons for a full minute but nothing is working.
Is my phone dead or is there a possibility of resurrecting it?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Are you positive the battery hasn't died. That would be the first thing I would check. Even if it showed it was charging doesn't mean the battery is good. I'm not trying to be insulting either by asking this. I'm a equipment tech at a large semiconductor company and you wouldn't believe the number of times the fix was as simple as turning a breaker back on when another tech wanted to replace something major. #1 rule of troubleshooting: Is there power. #2 rule: Double check rule #1. Sounds silly, but it is the easiest thing to overlook. Good luck and I hope it's as simple as a battery.

No you're not insulting by asking that. I use to record music and when something wasn't wasn't working that's the first thing we asked and re asked.
Unfortunately I do believe I checked that out. When I plug in a charger it doesn't even show me a battery charging logo.
I have noticed that when I pull out the battery and connect the charger the led turns red.
I'll see if i can't swap batteries with one of my friends and see if that helps.

I have tried the 3 button combos for T-Mobiles variant of the GS-III with no luck either.... I even tried making a jig and didn't have much luck....
Next step is to buy a jig and see if that works
Thankfully I got a replacement GS-III from insurance. So I'm content... Also since I get to keep the other GS-III as well it feels even nicer.

Flash STOCK or different ROM (Don't forget kernel too) think the issue is with the Cyanogenmod, mine did something similar, when screen went dark it took literally 5-10 Power button presses to wake the phone up, sometimes it wouldn't respond, other soft keys only would light up, Make backup, Wipe, install, check everything, that what I would do

I don't know if you have to pay a deductible but Samsung is supposedly replacing galaxy s3 for free because there is a known defect which cause the motherboard to go bad. My friend's was a Verizon model and they just replaced it free.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus not charging

My phone isn't charging at all.
In an attempt to charge, I turned it off and plugged in the charger. The charging animation did come up bit it would keep on coming up (like it's in a loop) and my phone still won't actually charge.
PC wasn't recognizing the phone either. Was saying that the USB device is not recognized.
I tried pushing up the metal inside the USB slot too. Not working. Maybe I haven't done that correctly.
What exactly could be the issue? The fact that the screen shows the charging animation when phone is off makes me feel that the USB slot may not really be faulty. But even though the animation comes, it vanishes before it should be complete (ie it vanishes before the battery icon is filled with white) and starts the animation from the beginning.
For ****s, flash the stock image, but it really sounds like faulty.... Something, try other USB bricks and cables.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Tried different cables. It's the same.
I can't flash the factory image either but my battery is completely dead now and I need to charge it to boot the phone up. And to be honest, I don't think flashing stock will really help.
had this issue as well, ended up just getting a replacement. Figured it was hardware issue. couldn't ever get it fixed
Wow!! Suddenly everything is working. Just kept the phone idle in the drawer with the battery taken out for around 30 minutes. Connected the charger and it's working fine.
Even though is temporarily fixed. Its a USB port problem. Mine has the same. I just use an external charger.

Yep, I am facing the same and this issue seems to be going around even for Nexus 4. The problem lies around 4.3 update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44572078#post44572078
Try these steps but none of them help. The only way to charge your phone at the moment is to switch it off, wait a few seconds, connect charger and see that charging animation starts. Now you can switch on the phone and the phone almost everytime continues charging.
I have no idea what causes this and I hope someone can pin the fault somewhere...but no cigar so far.
