Redmi 1s low performance? - Xiaomi Redmi 1S

I just got my xiaomi redmi 1s from my local Lazada store. What i noticed first is that it gets really hot even from normal multi tasking usage. I downloaded the update and now the heat is more tolerable so i decided to let it pass . problem now is that the phone is running slugishly for a quadcore device. Animations are not fluid and multi tasking is quite slow. So i decided to check with cpuz and antutu and below are my screenshots.
With antutu i got only 11000 when i expected to get arnd 18-20k as per the reviews. And in tue cpuz it says that cores 2 and 3 has stopped. Although there was a time when all 4 were running at their own clockspeeds l, and once i saw that everything is marked stopped except for cpu 0 rendering the device to be a single core phone. Any thoughts?

Do a factory reset and reboot. It will work again at full speed.

Install a custom ROM if you want to. My R1S is smoother on custom ROM than stock ROM.

I tried to factory reset inside the phone. My antut gone up to 14000+. I will now try to reset from recovery see of its any different.

I woulds definitely do that after i sort this out. Im just curious why !many people (including in reviews) get 21k antutu out of the box. I started to think thay my unit is a fake.lol
Thanks for your suggestiona, please keep them comming.

Your phone is not fake, you must wait for kernel and install a kernel, you kernel have some problemes

I tried to factory reset in the recovery and turn off the phone and placed it in front of an electric fan to cool it down. (It was running hot at 50c or more already according to CPU temperature app.) Also I unplugged it from charger because I read that charging the phone usually slows it down to a crawl. And true enough, I got 20000 antutu score
However a while ago I got 17000 antutu while temp is at 40-50C. Is it because of the temps? Also is cpu temperature app from google play accurate in recording temps?

Haha ok. Im just curious why my device is not consistently getting 20000+ antutu as described by many users through the net.
I just installed custom mokee rom. Its more fluid than before but the antutu is still 17000. temps are at arnd 45-55 upon testing compared to the 30-45 range when i got 20000. Is it relevant? Its the only variable i can think of. Also again temps are recorded thru cpu temperature from play.

Yes, it's relevant. My phone also lags sometimes when I use it while plugged in charger for a long time (because of which it gets heated up).

Ok will search for that mi flasher. As for cm11, im afraid that dl links have been removed for some roms for the redmi, i dont know why. I will still check today tho.
Update: this noon my temp reached 60C. I was outdoors then and i live in a tropical-climate Philippines so that must be the reason also for high temps. The phone became too hot it might fry an egg, so dsturbing in my pocket so i turned it off, removed the back cover and allowed it cool down.
Update 2: im also suffering with battery issues. I already charge twice today. In My first charge the batt went down by 20% in just 2 hrs. For 2nd charge, in 7hrs and 30mins the batt level is down by 70%(30% LEFT). I was only playing COC and D-day for 5-7mins tops.
Is this normal for our devices? Or is mine deffective?

Just an update: i tried to charge the phone while its turned off (straight frm 0-100% no interruption) and i noticed a slight improvement. I will continue to do this as people say you'd have to do this a couple of times.
Edit: i have flashed the thermal config file in this thread: (not the one posted in this thread, YET.)

Heating issues also reduced. Max is now arnd 55-57 but this only happens when im outdoors (extremely hot) and playng heavy games. I even play d-day w.o issues. I used trickster mod to freq lock between 300mhz to 1344mhz.

I dunno what to belive about your phone. Even with MIUI 5 v37 my phone not heating so much and now, with mokee temperature raise to 50 grd on the small spot near the camera whet I've play heavy games. I don't use thermal config but some tweaks inside governor and I use full range of frequencies.

Hmm. Could there be inconsistency with the manufacturing process of xiaomi? I swear at one point the device reaches temps that i would be forced to turn it off cause im afraid i might fry the innards.
Also i havent mentioned this but when i was running the unoffical mokee, the device went too hot that i can hear some slight sharp buzzing sound around the camera area (i think) when i place it near my ear. Kind of similar to the buzzing sound of my samsung galaxy charger that came with my moms s3 (if anybody experienced it with the samsung chargers) i dont know if this is a characteristic of electronics when it overheats as im no electronics major. One thing im sure of is that they dont have to produce that sound at all!

My guide for 18 hours battery life on Jelly Bean

I am here to share my experience to get 18 (around 5-8 hours screen time depend on your usage) hours normal usage, browsing chatting, facebook and calls.
2 days if you are not touching your phone at all, standby.
follow my guide, I think it's all about the Kernel but I shared the rom I used too just in case.
this guide is for GSM, might work on others just download the proper rom and kernel.
Optional, you can underclock to 1ghz but I didn't and got 18 means more if you underclock it.

point 1: when you go to 1GHz , it's called underclocking. undervolting is when you lower the voltage for the corresponding processor frequencies.
point 2: 18h , but what about screen ON ? how much is the "normal usage" equivalent to, in terms of screen ON and the stuff that you're running on your phone.
it's nice to see you trying to contribute and thumbs up for the effort, and i really don't want to sound like an a-hole, but this is not a guide. flashing a custom rom + kernel, and letting the battery go through a few cycles cannot be considered as a guide with battery saving tips. Cheers mate.

You are right, but I learned now ^^
well around 8 hours normal usage of screen time (screen awake), and when I am on a phone call and the screen is off it toke 1% every 10mins

Yah I hate to be that guy but where's the guide? Everyone uses their phone different. You should at least show your battery usage screen shot so we can see screen time etc.
What? Are you telling me that you get 8hrs of screen on time? Is this trolling or just a language barrier?

just look at my charge time compared to the times I am using phone, and because it last longer I don't care when its red and low, I was in 5% from 9pm to 11pm chatting from time to time and facebook, and btw my wifi is always on.

EDIT: I think I should charge it to 100% and make it drain then share pics with you guys, that's the proper way for screenshot right Xd? cuz mine looks like a mess XD

Your phone was plugged in multiple times throughout your screenshots. So yes, you should redo screen shots from 100% and include display on time.
It doesn't really matter though, as no one will see your same results unless they use their phone the exact same way.
And under clocking is unnecessary on the nexus, it doesn't spend hardly any time at 1200mhz anyway. I use mine for a lot of game play and still don't spend much time over 691mhz (Trinity kernel). So if my phone decides it does need to ramp up to 1190mhz to remain buttery smooth I'm not going to interfere.

hey thanks for the write up... i used it alone to change the colors! now my screen isn't yellow.
question though... when I adjust my colors manually, when I go to 0 percent brightness, everything goes like super green... like crazy looking lol.. but at 3 percent it's fine again... any idea why this happens and how I can fix it to get true 0 percent? thanks!

I'm using a stock one and all I can say is: Just dont use Nexus as a videogame.
I got 3 days and some hours of battery talking some minutes and using wifi for some time (probably 4 hours overall).
Playing sucks up the battery life. At least for me.
A normal day of use, with wifi active, many calls, auto bright and SetCPU profiles gives me 'bout 18-24 hours of use.
A intense play day gives me 8 hours. And I think its generous.

If you're not sure about what you are doing it won't lower performance it will probably result in a lot of crashing and error messages, I personally think it's not worth it for the amount of battery you could gain ( few minutes )

Well, I have had it undervolted with -150mv in a week or something and I haven't experienced any errors and crashes. I don't have it for the battery, but for the temps.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I've been under voting my s3 747m for over two weeks now, between 75 to 300mv lower, at 1.89 I'm running at 1200mv, although I'm only running it at 1.5.
To test it I use Stability Test app, on scaling for 3 hour runs, it will stress all frequencies.
If you find a crash you increase the voltage at that frequency, BUT, the best way to test it, instead of using scaling test, use the burn in one, but manually set your speed and let it stress test XX frequency for a long period, this Is where I found the most of my crashes.
This isn't an easy or a quick job, it'll require a good weekend of mucking around. I have all my speeds down to 5mv increments instead of the stock 25 the apps give you.
But so far, I don't get voltage related crashes, only the random KP caused by cm10 bugs.
If people are interested in the voltages for this phone I could post them

It is because of the thermal protection. I have found the values to fluctuate quite a bit. My top score with antutu is 27474 on the 510, though I haven't tried in a while.
To get semi accurate results, plug in your device until a the battery charges, and while still plugged in, start the benchmark without doing anything else first. With luck the thermal protection won't kick in and you can be impressed!

You need to leave it of charge and have no heavy usage before testing as ATU has very heavy usage on CPU when testing.

Update kills battery life and adds lots of heat

Kitkat update killed battery life and makes the tablet extremely hot near the camera on the back. What gives?

I don't have a solution but the same problem. I'm fine with it getting warm but it's getting really hot! It's great that we have kitkat but it's not all that stable yet.
Restarting seems to help temporarily. Feels like something gets stuck and then makes the CPU run extra stuff but I don't see anything with my wakelock analyzing apps...
When it is in "battery-eating-mode" even browsing or watching a video makes it run hot!
Generally it indicates that a file or service has become stuck, or hung. For me it's common for the Samsung.index.service to get stuck indexing a file and sometimes lasts 3 days before it's resolved.
You should use some kind of monitor to see whats causing it.
Gsam battery monitor does a good job of showing rogue apps, and battery and heat.
Also a CPU monitor is included in the debug/developer which can also show the culprit.

I quite upset about this now. I reset my device and still have the same problem. My tablet used to be excellent and had great battery life. Now Kitkat Haase it basically useless because the battery drains so fast.
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Premium HD app
Indexservice uses 30 percent of my battery. I read that happens if you have lots of pdfs on an external SD card, but for me that is the whole point of this device. If I just wanted to play games, watch videos and surf the Web I would've gotten an ipad. Really dissapointed with Samsung here. Did they not test the device before they released the update? Or do they clock out of their jobs and go home and use ipads?

Yeah the indexservice did the exact same to mine, Samsung were no help. Happened even when I put PDF's on internal storage.
I had no other choice but to root it and freeze the service with titanium backup, I really didn't want to, but I was left with no other choice.
As I had gone that far I also froze a bunch of other Samsung apps/services - I am so glad I did, the tab absolutely flys along now - feels like a different machine.
Root it, you won't be disappointed
Sony released a statement suggesting disabling the Google backup functions to improve battery life with kitkat Roms. If you don't need those maybe you wanna try that as well.
Settings/general/accounts and save&backup
It will likely fix itself after a few days. It happens on mine every few months for a day or two. Then it settles down and works normally. Same on all Samsung devices.
Has nothing to do with KitKat.

I did some testing with an app to check cpu frequency and here's what I found:
Sometimes the tablet goes into "fury mode". Which means that as soon as there is any task for the cpu however small it may be it drives all cores to max 1.9ghz and full speed. Which means even while I'm browsing or watching a video the tablet runs about as hot as when playing an intense 3D game. And with equally bad battery life.
Really bad performance/efficiency handling. Like now I've been browsing(chrome) for 30 min and it ate 15% battery life and it's extremely hot on the back where the cpu is. There aren't any special processes running I've checked with watchtower. Cpu load is not that high but frequency has been constant 1.9ghz max speed on all cores... need custom Kernel PLZ.
I have to say though this is not always the case. Sometimes after a restart or when it was laying around for a while this fury mode doesn't happen.
just rooted and froze indexiservice using titanium backup...hopefully this will help
Ok looks like everything is good now.
Rooted and used titanium backup to freeze all the stupid stuff that was causing the device to get super hot

CPU Temp is over 65-70C plz help

my phone have several issues but this heating problem worries me the most..
when im not touching the phone (placed on the table with display on but on lock screen) it is 35C to 38C
when i take it in hand nd unlock and even if i do nothing it rises and reaches 42-45C
when i use apps like gmail, maps, or sms the temprature is around 45-48C
when i play small games it goes between 50-60C
but the most worrying part is when i play heavy games.. the temprature goes above 60C and stabilizes at 65C.. aont once in a while it reaches 68C but comes down sooner
when i run benchmarking apps. the temprature went 70C and even reached 72C twice... will the device can handle such temprtures?
i know most of the processors are made to handle not more than 70C.. so im doubting this heat might burn my phone internals..
is it like this for all snapdragon 615 phones? or will it b fixed if they update to lollipop which is best suited for 64 bit processors?
or should i return the phone ( i have 6 days ) coz its defective??
please give me a reasonable reply some1.. i tried all forums and no reply.. please help me... i dont wanna regret buying this phone in the mean time i dont wanna regret returning this phone either so kindly help me
Please check the battery stat, and see which one is using more, I think You have mediaserver issue, If mediaserver is the highest (above 30%)
then find a fix for it, It is a bug in kitkat

Hi Kartik00 ,
Did your issue got fixed? Heating problem got solved ?
It is not a problem!
It is actually OK. Most of the phones give battery temperature as CPU temperature as they do not have a heat sensor integrated with the CPU.
But for yureka it is different. I mean yureka is special one. It has a heat sensor integrated with CPU. CPU can heat up to 90°c that is normal. But when battery starts to heat up, there is a issue there. Our yureka is fine. :good:
Download CPUz it will give you a pure idea of this

yh thats right.. i realized it after asking around abt other ppl who owns 8core phones its not even a ISSUE.. also after cm12 update my phone doesnt heat much.. hot pluging isnt effective yet though but 2cores (from the performance cores not the power save ones) does goes to sleep when we set it to powersave mode
rollback the update to stock ROM (4.4)
Lollipop is awesome.BT the heating issue is still tr.The CPU governor s are not adjustable in lollipop. BT in kitkat we can adjust it.
In lollipop the CPU always at 950hz (min).so it heats more.

I guess its not just software issue but also a design flaw made by CoolPad. They cover the main processor chip and eMMC chip with aluminum cover. I know this cover is used to prevent dust to get in and static electricity, but it also cause heating problem. Moreover, they place the LCD on top of it. So if you want to get rid the heating problem, don't buy YU, but buy MI 4i instead. If you don't use the phone, the phone temperature will stay at 45-50 degree.
U r suggesting different phone as a solution? & that too atleast 4k costlier one
