[Q] Any AT&T Note 4 users getting 1080 and 1440p on Youtube? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Is there anyone that's of course not on root since we don't have it available yet, able to view YouTube in 1080 and 1440p resolution? I have tried everything and the highest it can go is 720. Anyone have a difference apk or a fix or something!? I know there are lots of fixes if you are rooted and running Xposed but I know that's not available to us. Anyone??

I downloaded the apk from the first post of this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/general/youtube-1440p-root-stock-t2964677/page8
But instead of following the instructions I force closed youtube from application manager, cleared data, uninstalled updates, rebooted, installed the new apk, rebooted, opened the new youtube app, skipped the updates and skipped singing in, searched 1440p and tried a video, no luck though, so I went back to application manager and force closed youtube, cleared data. I then went back to the youtube app but this time I updated to the new version in the play store when it asked, and then searched for 1440p again, loaded a video and I have now gotten 1080p and 1440p on my note 4

Yeah the instructions are stupidly misleading from the posts and that thread in general was garbadge.

I can "play" videos listed as 1440p and it DOES look good on the screen. But when I hit the three buttons and choose settings all I see is listed to 720p. Are you all ACTUALLY seeing the 1080p and 1440p listed as an option in the settings?
I followed the link and directions a few post up...

When I said search 1440p it's just to find a demo video, it doesn't affect anything in the steps, go ahead and clear data for the youtube app, did you update after you opened the apk in the other thread?

Yes, just went back and tried your steps above one by one and still only getting up to 720p listed. Did you use the NEWEST from that link you reposted? I used version com.google.android.youtube-6.0.11-60011301-minAPI15-1.apk Should I use the 6.0.13?

Yup so use the 6.0.11 and open the app, try a video, then force stop the youtube app, clear data, open it up again and then UPDATE to the new version of youtube from within the app, it's odd how this works so it seems a bit different for each person

I followed the steps above and i still dont have an 1080p or a 1440p option appear in the settings during play back. I also pulled up the same TF4 1440p trailer.

Still cannot get the 1080p or 1440p to show up with the above instructions. Tried it multiple times. Double checked before and after reboots to see which youtube version it showed after installs and update. No big deal as i dont use youtube too often. I was wondering if it is a limitation due to area of the country? Provider? Which lte network the phone is connecting to? What speeds WiFi network is giving? Or something else that determines it?
Thanks for the instructions and help anyways. Have a great New Year

Yep, same here no matter what I try.

1080p is available on my Nexus 7(2013), but nothing on the Note. Kinda pisses me off.

Yeah, I posted what I did to get 1080 and 1440 but I think it's finicky in the way it works and won't work for everyone.

Yeah the way the get it working is hit or miss when it comes to certain devices. The way I got mine working was installed an old apk of YouTube and then ran it and it worked. Then I updated it though the playstore and the option for higher resolution was still there. That's how I got mine working.

Not really a solution for streaming, but I use Tubemate to download videos in 1440 (if available). It's not on the app store, you'll have to do a search http://lmgtfy.com/?q=tubemate

I dont get it...! I get 1440p playback on my Tab S using the same YT version of the app i have i the Note 4 and no 1440p playback on my Note 4.

HTC Desire Flash not work properly

I'm pretty sure I wasn't imagining things but I successfully went on megavideo and watched an episode of the scrubs (=P) but now when I try it says this type of flash is not supported :S and on Youtube it used to load videos fullscreen when I pressed play but now it says Go Upgrade...
Is this due to a new firmware update? I heard a new one was released but I never went through any installing process.
I'd like my megavideo and Youtube back! =O Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
I've noticed video on the BBC website isn't working now either which it was working fine before.....
same thing here, youtube videos says, go upgrade....
The desire runs flash lite version 4. YouTube, iPlayer and most other flash apps run on the full version of flash, 10.1. Some things in 10.1 won't be backward compatible with Flash lite 4, so won't display correctly, or even run atall. When Android gets flash support officially it will run 10.1 but for now,you will have to do with the app variants.
ah but why could I view them before?

I think they might have updated their application, and perhaps increased the minimal version number needed. That would explain why you get that message now.
I've been getting this too, been trying to load videos from various sources, as flash seemed to work in Farmville on facebook (I almost died when I saw it loaded up), and now nothing, the only ones that work for me are youtube videos, which I believe are handled through the HTC Streaming app. All other flash files on sites just give me the yellow '!' triangle, not a pretty sight at all.

I've also had this problem.
BBC website works fine on my Desire, as does playing a full flash movie. Try this:
http://www.spschat.com/Shocked/ep01.swf (it's funny btw, if you like South Park)
Just watched that full screen with no issues over 3G
UStream.tv doesn't though - get a triangle

Nexus 7 crashes and Ghost clicks

My Nexus 7 keeps locking up whenever I try to play video through YouTube. I can start the Netflix app or mX Video Player because they failed to load. I also get a lot of Ghost clicks that will register a quick that is the far corner of the screen depending on where I tab down on screen.I have a video detailing the crash that I get after I start watching a video on YouTube that I will post to YouTube with my phone. its going to take me awhile to get the video loaded onto YouTube it soon as its done I will post it on this thread.
I would also like to add that I are currently have the latest updates on my Nexus 7 and I'm not rooted or running a custom ROM. I appreciate any and all help that I can get in trying to fix these issues.
Update: the problem persists in safe mode, I've also got a picture here of what the screen looks like before crash.

Mine is doing exactly that whenever I launch Camera, Youtube, Google Earth and Shadowgun. The weird strip is not that visible though, mine is just a green strip, but the tablet freezes and reboots. Really frustrating since I live in Brazil and there's no Nexus 7 support here...
Still looking but haven't found and possible sources of the issue. Seems to be something with 4.3 and video playing apps.
I really hope this is just a software issue...

Are you on build JSS15Q? There were tweaks not only to the touchscreen but also others, it may fix your issues. Check in "About tablet" for an update or adb sideload the OTA if you're impatient.

YouTube 2K (1440p)

Whats up XDA!..... Its your boy Jose.... Im making this thread because I have seen some people wanting to get play 1440p videos from YouTube... Well every since the new Youtube Update it killed the 1080p and also 1440p Resolution .... I don't know why Google did that...
But anyways here is how to get old Youtube (Previous Version) into your Device and enjoy that Beautiful Screen
Now this is the way that I got mine to work ...
1. Delete your Recent YouTube from inside your Device .... "Uninstall it" or Use "Root Explorer Pro" or any file explorer ..
2. Uninstall all YouTube updates .... ReBoot...
3. Install the Youtube apk that I provided (Or any other Version that supported 1440p) ReBoot Final time ...
4 Enjoy ...

Here is a UHD video I shot yesterday with my note4 at the airshow in Ft.Worth TX. Blue Angels. This was the first time using the video camera. There are plenty of good parts and some just flat out blurry parts. Zooming in while chasing a fighter jet a mile away was actually not to hard. Given some practice I could make a much better video. There's this one below and other 1080 vids of the airshow

Try deleting your cache your application data ... Reboot install ...
Did all that no go.... I mean ive never even been able to get 1080p and ive always had the best of the best in phones
Wierd! I had this working before with stock rooted but now that I run FireKat rom I top @ 720p too!
I have cleared data and cache and also boot into recovery to fix permissions to no avail!
I had all the same problems, what fixed it for me was to clear youtube cache and data, uninstall then reboot......then go back and uninstall any updates again, then navigate with root explorer to system/app and delete the youtube.apk from there, then reboot again and install the version in this thread......then for the hell of it wipe youtube app cache and data followed by a final reboot.......then it worked.
Hope this helps
It works. You just have to make sure all reminisce of the app are gone. Then reboot install and reboot again. On our phones 720 and 1080 look about the same honestly
You have to delete all your YouTube data to make it work if not its still gonna be doing the samething ....
Here you go it's there but I am not able to select 1080 or 2k SO it's worthless.....

Anyone got PiP to work?

So I've seen a list of apps that currently support PIP I'm 8.0 and so far I haven't been able to get any of them to work. I tried Play Movies and then YouTube TV. Both didn't work. I know you need Red for YouTube, but as a subscriber to YouTube TV I would assume that's enough for that app to work.
Anyone else have this feature working for any of the supported apps?

Yes, was able to do it on my original Pixel and now also on my XL 2... You have to be subscribed to YouTube red and have the feature enabled to do picture in picture, with the XL 2 you can also zoom in/expand cropped YouTube videos to full screen. Make sure you have the latest version of the apps too.
You're pressing home correct? Backing out of YouTube has it play in the background.

Need help with vlc on my pixel XL (hardware acceleration issue)

Hey all have a og pixel XL it's unlocked and rooted either stock kernel December update (8.1) I use vlc at work to watch and listen to downloaded videos I've been using it for months now with no issues. Now I recently noticed that all my videos stutter and hitch . I though it was because I went for 8.0 to 8.1 so I went back and it was still happening (even though in the past I had no issues)
Only way I can fix this is to disable hardware acceleration in vlc settings. But doing thumis makes my device warm and sucks battery (being that it's decoding HD video via software) this is driving me nuts. How can I fix this?
I downloaded the device driver binaries from Google but no idea how to install it. I though I could make sure they are all up to date but not sure how to go about that.

Has VLC been updated recently? it sounds like if it's happening on 8.0 and 8.1 and wasn't happening before ... it's likely an issue with the app itself and not the OS.

No, do NOT do that. that's not what those drivers are for - they are for developers, not end-users.
your firmware contains the drivers that you should be using / built for your firmware.

i could not find a past version of the app. well i did on apkmirror but the only non beta past app was from nov 28th i was looking for one from like october but only found beta versions. tried one of them. still doing it. i think it has something to do with 8.1. i would do a back up with twrp and just do a fresh install of 8.0 and see if it happens again but last time i tried making a twrp back up restoring from it failed.
You can download the older builds from the vlc website:

i think i found the issue. i use the app arktube to download youtube videos the night before i go into work so i can listen and watch while on shift. in the app there is a setting to allow to download VP9 version of videos and i had it selected for some reason. those videos are the ones that are stuttering unless i disable hardware acceleration.
would you be able to test to see if VP9 content stutters on your pixel? the video i had was 2560x1440P VP9 youtube video here is the video i downloaded https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33OZFYN_cQw&index=22&list=PL8mG-RkN2uTyuEutQa79RZ0Q5u5gteUci
i just got done flashing 7.1.2 and 8.0 with different versions of VLC each and still had the issues so i guess its because of VP9. which makes no sense being that i can view it fine from the youtube app at that setting but cant if i download it and play it via vlc?
