[Q] Note 10.1 (2014) and PTV3000, only mirrors part of screen - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi guys,
Just having a problem mirroring to my ptv3000. Following a couple of suggestions, I bought the PTV3000 to mirror the screen from my note 10.1 (2014). However, I've only been able to get it to mirror a corner of my screen which appears to match with a 1080p resolution. Is there a way for it to mirror the entire screen? I have the latest 2.4.53 firmware, and I have seen some people might have it working pretty well on the forums. Any help appreciated.

In the ptv3000 settings, the closest thing is resize, numbers 0 to 9. I've tried a couple of them, seems to be the same each time. Tried tv aspect ratio settings as well. I don't seem to have any other options to do with mirroring on the note itself. What settings have you got?

IDK never used screen mirroring but I am an electronics engineer and know a few things about LCD TV production as well since my first internship was at VESTEL.
This is a problem with your ptv3000 device. I dig into its specs and it says up to 1080p resolution. Since this tablet has a resolution greater than that it cannot handle the higher resolution. You might need to get another adapter which can handle uhd resolutions.

That may be the case. I just find it frustrating, because there are others on a few forums who say it works great, I just can't find info about my specific problem. I guess I better look for another way.

Same tablet with same device? I m guessing they use another android device which does not have 1600p screen

Your TV is 1080p? What brand? I just barley revived my PTV3000 and works great on my 1080p 60hz insignia and a much older 720p samsung. I too updated my firmware are soon as it arrived. I looked at the ptv3000 settings but never changed them. I also updated the app that handles screen mirroring from the play store.
Edit: I also tried on the lg g3 and g2 (Verizon model) works great. Firmware is the only thing I can think of. Netgear has all their current and past firmwares on their website. I would imagine the newest to be the best but who knows, maybe an older one? (Might be a waste of time to check)
Double edit: try playing only 720p or 1080p content like a movie or something in full screen on your tablet. It's possible that might work. I dunno. Are you stock? Not rooted or anything? I'd imagine if the mirroring worked or didn't work, it should do so ubiquitously.

Well, the posts appear to be in the note 10.1 2014 forums with claims that they use it with the same device, however a point of difference may be that I have chosen to remain on 4.3 stock, and am not rooted. Since I'm not running the latest firmware, its possible I'm missing out on some fixes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it tonight when I get home. I might also try an older firmware and see if that fixes it. The tv is a 1080p panasonic plasma, maybe 6 years old now.

The oldest tv I tried was at least 6 years old if not close by a year. I do notice the tablet can loose mirror connection when both streaming upwards of 1080p or 720p content and mirroring it simultaneously

Netflix doesn't stream in HD unless your phone uses omap 4 processors. note II uses exynos.

Did you even read his original question? He wants to use HDMI out to play netflix off of his phone onto his girlfriend's TV. Seems like a reasonable thing to want to do.
On the other hand, can you really tell the difference between 720 and 1080 stuff when it's being streamed over Netflix? I don't think I could, but I'm not a youngster any more. Not a videophile either.
Wouldn't it be better to just get a cheap roku? How are you even pluging in the phone?

Has anyone had success with Slimport?

I've read from a few sources that the Nexus 7 2013 is Slimport compatible.
Has anyone had success getting it working?

have you tried it? are you asking just as a general question or are you having issues getting it working? fyi its working flawlessly for me
Thanks for the replies. I do not yet own a slimport adapter, I wanted to be sure it works before ordering as they're quite expensive.
Will it bitstream DTS and AC3 surround sound?
slimport not working for me
Unfortunately I am having issued. It worked with a very old hdtv. For my newer samsung and philips 1080p tvs, it would just show a black screen. On one of the tvs, it advises that the resolution is coming through but nothing appears on the screen. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

well i'm using it with a 2012 samsung and it works perfectly. i'd suggest maybe trying a different hdmi cable. for whatever reason, this usually solves such problems for me
Tried a few different cables. One worked on there old TV but not on the new ones. I feel like the new TVs can't figure out how to downgrade the resolution to 1080 but it's probably just my slimport
I've noticed that HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, DRM basically) seems to always be active on the SlimPort adapter with no way to turn it off. This is a known issue with older TVs that are not HDCP compliant. If this is the case there's not much you can do.
Actually most consumer TVs will be HDCP compliant or they won't work with your cable boxes over HDMI to get HBO. It is usually the other equipment like PC monitors, capture boards, or switchers that sometimes have issues with HDCP.
The issue with TVs is usually not that they don't support HDCP but rather their support has some interoperability problem with another implementation of HDCP. Compliancy basically meant little in the past as their was no certification and mandatory interop testing.
I'm curious does the Slimport downscale 1920x1200 to 1920x1080 via vertical compression? Or is Android rendered natively at 1080p as a "second display"?

Is Actiontec ScreenBeam Pro's miracast feature compatible with 2014 Galaxy Note 10.1?

So I noticed the older Galaxy Note 10.1 is listed as compatible with the Altec ScreenBeam Pro... I'm wondering if it also works with the newer 2014 edition. Has anybody tried? It seems to work quite well with the Nvidia Shield (Nvidia actually recommends it out of many miracast devices that they've tried. They've even worked with altec to optimize it for the Shield, so I imagine that would also benefit other compatible Android devices): http://www.actiontec.com/products/63.php

I am also rooted and MiraCast still works. It is a bit more slugish than my Nexus 7.2. Probably because of scaling down since the Nexus is the resolution as the TV. My Nexus 10 was a bit slower as well.

I have the PTV3000 dongle and the note seems to disconnect immediately after connecting to the dongle with this message "unable to start screen mirroring because of a hardware issue".
quick lookups on google seems to indicate it's related to the status being unofficial. I am wondering if you had any similar problems and if I'd appreciate if you can share your workaround if you have any.
Thanks

Nope, you just need to plug the adapter into an available HDMI port on your tv
oh cool, thank you. Was just a bit confused on that.
I've had some luck with the ptv3000 on the 2.4.26 update. YouTube videos and games almost work, but my connection just seems barely too slow to be usable. Pictures and anything else seem to work okay for me. Would the screen beam pro work any better for gaming since I'd seems to be endorsed by nvidia?
Are You using the built in screescreen Mirror app
Are you using the screen mirror in the settings or a third party app
I'm using the one in settings. Would any third party app be better?

IoGear GWAVR miracast video streaming/screen mirroring box

I just purchased this IoGear GWAVR miracast video streaming/screen mirroring box from New Egg and was wondering if anyone else has tried it with their 10.1 Note 2014? I already tried the Netgear Push2TV with the latest firmware and the connection was horribly unstable. I know there's the Samsung Allshare box but I want something that streams in 1080p. Hopefully this IoGear box works well, and I'll be sure to post any results of my experience once I get the box later this week.

Yup I got it and it works beautifully! I've had no connection issues at all and everything streams perfectly in 1080p. It's definitely far more reliable than the Netgear Push2TV.
Thank you for your replay,

I've got both the PTV3000 and the GWAVR and I'm mirroring my Note 10.1 2014 kitkat and my note 2 still on 4.1.2. The PTV3000 works great on TVs but doesn't work on hometheater receivers. So I've been looking for a miracast receiver that will mirror on my Samsung Blu-Ray home theater. The GWAVR mirrors my note 10.1 with no issues, but my note 2 struggles... the note 2 gets choppy and has ghosting issues every now and again. Anyway, I'm writting to see if anyone has found or knows where to find any firmware updates for the GWAVR. I've checked all over iogear's site but can't find anything. Or does someone else have experience with the GWAVR on a theater receiver with the note 2 (kind of a long shot I know, but thought I'd throw it out there anyways).
Thnx

My GWAVR hasn't turned out to be the "miracle" streaming device I thought it would be. It sometimes works perfectly, while other times will have connection issues, and/or poor video streaming quality. It still works better than the PTV3000 but is far from perfect. Sorry to hear about your Note 2 issues. I think it's just an issue with the poor options we have for streaming/mirroring. One day hopefully a device will come out that really mirrors/streams the way it should. To be honest the best streaming I get is with my Samsung smart TV 32" LCD. This streams perfectly with my LG G2 and 10.1 2014 Note.

Did you try updating the P2TV firmware? FWIW, I have one of these and it works perfectly with my '14 Note 10.
BTW, the good news is even if you're rooted and have a custom recovery and have tripped your Knox eFuse, Allshare Cast still works (with the latest KK, at least).
Does this work with gaming?
It wouldn't framerate fast enough, I wouldn't think.
(... that being said, I've used the ASCD to watch sports streamed from my OG Note 10.1 to an 60" HDTV- it wasn't the worst picture in the world ....)

Which "china" Miracasr dongle?

Since IOGEAR GWAVR is no where to find in EU and in Ebay cost to much. (shipp+tax). So Im gonna buy a cheap china miracast dongle instead. But which of so many miracast dongle does works with Note 2014?
Considering these cheaps one: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=miracast&_sop=15
But if any know where in EU does it sale IOGEAR GWAVR, that doesnt cost a fortune and I will buy it instead.

Nice thread! I would like to learn a little more of this!
Please can someone share the experience ?
EZCast/ EZMirror ? iPush ? Some say can do miracast and airplay!
Can we have a dongle :
- HDMI and AV connection ?
- Mirror what's on our Android screen
- Mirror what's on iPhone screen
- Mirror PC/MAC
Thanks
Hi all,
My colleagues and I use this :
www.tinydeal.com/fr/hi763-miracast-dlna-airplay-wifi-display-dongle-for-smartphone-p-111836.html
It is compatible with Miracast, DLNA and AirPlay. I can mirror my android devices and computers screen (Wifi Display) and stream airplay on the TV.
Also, there are some little issue with some of custom roms. But with my SM-P600 (MK1) it works flawlessly.

I read that some requires iPush to be downloaded from Play others EZCast/EZAir, is it the case for this dongle?
I've seen some youtube reviews and it seems that visualizing video the audio is a little lag from the image, is it common from this cheap dongles?
Anyone knows if there is any dongle with RCA analogue output instead of using an expensive HDMI-RCA converter ?

Sorry, I don't really understand "some requires iPush to be downloaded from Play others EZCast/EZAir, is it the case for this dongle?". But I'm using the Note 10.1 2014 with the native mirroring service included. And on my computer I'm using the native wireless display of windows 8 (I have an Intel proc with an Nvidia video card). Some of my colleagues use iTunes for streaming on the dongle.
I've forgot to mention one thing. The dongle does not allow to receive all airplay, miracast, dlna on the same time. There is a little switch on the dongle for choosing the dlna or airplay mode.
My recommendation is to avoid all cheap chinese miracast dongles. Got mine from Ebay and it works like crap.
- Wifi streaming hangs all the time.
- Resolution works fine from beginning and suddenly it changed to a weird aspect ratio size and all is zoomed in on TV.
That dongle is collecting dust now.
UAU
I've decided to give a try and i'm just impressed! It was the cheapest i've found on ebay:

Not only came well packed on an impressive case as it does exactly what it says!
Tried our Note 2014 (605), iphone 5S and a toshiba laptop.
I advise you to just look at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrzaLjA1EiiBiYR4VKCoZpA
It works just like on the videos.

Does it work for movies and gaming? How the range?
For gaming, just forget. At least half second gap, to much for gaming.
I have everything in my room, router tv/dongle pc, android, iphone so the range is about 3m.
For movies, youtube is awsome.

Do you need to use the EZcast app or you simply use the built-in screen mirroring function of the Note 2014?
You must use the EZCast , but just to trigger the mirror function on the device.
