Dot view - Desire 820 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Am planning on buying the dotview flip cover for desire 820. Is it worth purchasing and any suggestions about its price range??

Hello, I'm currently on a trip in India and purchased this phone and the dot view. While in my opinion, though its aesthetically pleasing at first, practically speaking its more annoying. In sunlight you can't make out the text through the cover very well. I also do not think it picks up my touch very well when answering and ending calls. I paid 1300 rupees or 20 U.S. dollars. They tried to sell it to me for 2400, I really didn't want it but needed to case because I'm clumsy.
Hoped I helped! If i did you know here to click

Seems that it's of not much use. Maybe i'll just get a back case then.

I bought mine for about 16€ and I absolutely love it!
It's the slimmest flip book styled case at the moment.
I have no issues with touch registration at all.
The only dowside is that you really can't read the dot view in direct sunlight, but that is almost impossibly to accomplish, anyways.
The key feature for me is the automatic unlocking of the phone when you open the case. And of course the phone gets locked, when you close the case.
Sure, it's not cheap. But I would recommend it.

Check this out :--

I got a dot view case and it is not good. It has the cutout in the wrong place, the case is covering both the indicatior LED and the front facing camera.
EDIT :: the case was m150, the official HTC case for htc 820.
I wonder what happened, or at least, for what is the cutout part in the front of the case

Man still u paid too high..??

Ok, found it.
The cutout in the case is for the light and proximity sensor.
Seems rather a bad idea to not cut a hole for that little light, as rely on it to see when I receive messages and when I have to check the phone.

Awesome folio case for under $25

Hey guys,
I've been prowling around these sectors ever since I got my Xoom, searching for the perfect case.
What I wanted:
The flexibility of the Zoogue case really appealed to me - I like the idea of being able to choose the angle of viewing. I also wanted any case to be able to be able to provide a setting for only a slight tilt when I wanted to type.
BUT the high price tag really put me off.
Also, I wanted it to be pretty thin. The Xoom is big enough without me adding to its bulk.
After much searching, I think I found the perfect one, so I thought I'd share my experiences (Here's the link where I bought it from: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Black-Fo...Accessories&hash=item3f0a05cb28#ht_3816wt_947)
Firstly, the price tag attached to this thing is ridiculously awesome. At first, I bought it thinking 'why not? it's less than $25!', but the product turned out to be even more awesome.
Firstly, it's really thin, but covers the tablet nicely. Secondly, to a certain extent, you can also choose what viewing angle you want, which is awesome. I say to a certain extent, because after a while, you run out of cover to stick the velcro on (have a look at the attached picture)
All the cutouts are there, but you can't charge with the case closed. I don't think this is a problem, because the cover folds back on itself nicely, so you can keep it open to charge. Which brings me to the next plus: it's designed so that it folds back on itself and it's actually pretty comfortable to hold in portrait mode (I've heard that this isn't the case with the official Moto one).
The only minor flaw I've found is that on mine, the top left corner is slightly higher than the top right - what this means is that the front-facing camera is covered ever so slightly by the strip of leather running under it. The picture I attached kind of exaggerates it a bit; it's not that bad. When I booted up the front-facing camera, there's just a line across the very bottom of the image. I'm not sure if this is on all their cases, so it might just be mine.
One more note: When I first heard about cases using velcro, I immediately wondered if the velcro would wear out over time, like in some of my bags. If you're also wondering that, then don't worry! This doesn't use the traditional velcro. You know how traditionally, the fuzzy part has all the loops and the the other part would like... 'hook' onto it and that's how it stuck? Well, this uses a different sort... one that looks like it won't wear out easily. Also, this case is pretty damn sturdy when you've got it propped up. I've tested this out extensively, and even when poking at the screen with a fair bit of force, it never topples.
Finally, before anyone asks: no, I'm not in any way affiliated with the seller, I'm just one super-happy customer. Even though it says it's free shipping, they still provided tracking for me. They even took a picture of the package before they sent it off and sent that to me, which was an eBay first. Plus, the person dealing with the emails just seems really nice, based on the correspondences I've had.
So pretty much, this case is amazing (for me, anyway). I don't think it's real leather, but for under $25, I wasn't expecting it. Plus, real leather is a ***** to take care of, anyway. Whether you need this case will probably come down to what you want out of a case, but this one has been pretty versatile for me (I've had it for about a month now).
EDIT: I didn't realise how much I wrote.... can you tell I'm procrastinating?
EDIT2: I forgot to add that there's even a magnet that holds the cover closed. It's not too strong but not too weak, either. Quite nifty, actually!

Nope, there's nothing on the screen area at all. That's my matte screen protector that I bought off eBay. It was the cheapest one I could find and it actually works quite well!
i got this one. will post pics and give feedback as soon as i got it.
Well, I really like it myself, so it'll be interesting to hear feedback from other people too.
And daaaang it, it's on sale now (I hate when things go on sale after I buy it!) Oh well, it was already cheap to begin with

Snugg case available for pre-order

definitely not slim, and not cheap, but I've been very happy with this case for my N7-2012.
http://www.thesnugg.com/tablet-case...ather-case-cover-and-flip-stand-in-black.aspx
Will post once I get mine (pre-orders claim to ship Aug 23).
I got my Snugg case today...
what I like: they moved the loop for the stylus (not that I use it) away from blocking the USB port (as it did on the N7 2012 version of the case).
But alas, the case I got is a big fail. Open the case, the N7 turns on.. as you expect... and then when you finish folding the cover back behind the N7... that same magnet has enough pull to turn the N7 right back off
all you have to do is fold the cover back behind and slide it back and forth a little. I never had this problem with my N7(2012)+Snugg.
So I'm returning my case. Maybe they'll get the kinks worked out in a future batch.
EDIT: similar to the 2012 case, I do wish they made it a bit easier to reach the power/volume buttons.. the cut-out on the Poetic slimline is MUCH better for that.
EDIT2: Snugg is sending a replacement.. we'll see if its any better.
EDIT3: the comedy continues.. the replacement they sent was a red iPad case... not much good that will do... have emailed them again and waiting to hear back.
Got my replacement case.. same issue.... so I decided to do a little surgery...
I removed the stitching from 3 of the 4 sides around the tan Snugg logo, and peeled it back. Under that was a layer of light brown tape/paper.. I used a nife to scrape that back, and under that was a magnet which resembles a button battery... maybe 2/3 the diameter of a dime (US).
I used 2 pair of pliers to attempt to snap it in half.. it was fairly brittle, do I ended up with 4 pieces of different sizes.. I 1st tried the largest piece.. maybe ~50% of the original magnet... put it back in place, piece of electrical tape over, and tucked the logo back in place... still saw the problem.
So then I swapped that piece for the 2nd largest (maybe 1/4 of the original magnet).. and so far that seems to be doing the trick. Seems to open reliably from the front, and is NOT detected (knock wood) when the cover is folded to the rear.
I'll give it a few more days, then add some glue to secure the stitching I removed and call it a win.
I've emailed Snugg about this, but so far they are saying "we haven't had any other complaints".. I dunno, since I got one of the 1st cases they made for N7v2, I think that is a premature assessment on their part.
At this point, I hope I have the case I wanted.

Well Snugg is a nice case but I dont like that stylus space there...because I dont like to use stylus and more over that space will be more irritating one rather than being useful.....on comparison it with black leather portfolio case...i find that portfolio one is much better...as A case or a cover is a product that should be for the care of tab properly so i prefer that one over snugg...almost same price..but quality of leather portfolio case is much better...but its my personal experience i would say.....

The stylus loop was at the bottom, blocking the USB port on their case for N7-2012.. they moved it to the top for N7-2013 (so it doesn't block anything now).. I don't use a stylus either, but it stays out of the way for me.
Snugg replied to my email, saying they have now gotten other complaints and are making an adjustment to the magnets in the case. Will be sending a revised case once it is ready.

took a look at the link... I had a case like that for my Touchpad.. never again... I much prefer the Snugg style/functionality... I've had the N7-2012 version for almost a year.. zero fraying... it still is like-new. 2 others in the family have Snugg cases for different tablets, and they've had no issues either. *Other* than this current magnet issue (allegedly being fixed in a new batch of cases), I've seen nothing to suggest Snugg cases are anything but top quality, equal or better than any other "leather" case I've owned over the span of several tablets.
but the nice thing about this is that everyone likes a different style case, and there's something out there for just about everyone at every price point.
I got my rev2 case.. they did more than just fix the magnet... the inside cut-outs are different, and most importantly, they did a carve out around the power and volume buttons, making those much more accessible.
Oh, and by dumb luck, I figured out that the stylus loop can easily tuck in behind your N7, so it's totally out of the way (even tho it didn't bother me anyway).
and the magnet strength seems fixed now.
All in all I can now call this a very good case.

Just saw the update on the rev2 case, right after I got done talking to Snugg. The lady at first hesitated, checked with her supervisor then came back. Said they had similar issues and it was fixed, new cases would be aent out to thoae affected meaning you muat first complain to get a replacement. My issues were bad fit, camera slightly blocked front and back. Buttons impossible to find, edge was curled badly, left aide of screen slightly covered, and just now typing this response my magnet kicked my screen off! Just goto Snugg's website and click the chat link they will send out a case once they verify your order number with them or amazon. Glad to hear the updated case looks more like the picture on their website. Waiting for mine now.

hmm.. just looked at the website.. their pic looks like the original rev for N7-2013... the one I got has cutouts above and below the screen ~3/4 the width of the display... vs. their pic show just a cutout for the front facing camera.
EDIT: FWIW I have NO idea why the new cutouts above/below the screen were done this way. the other changes they made, make sense to me.
OMG, what the crap case!

It's all about the quality.
Besides, unlike a lot of flip covers, this one appears to have a magnet to turn the device on and off.
How can they not have a hole for the notification LED? Dealbreaker for me.
Who am I kidding? I wouldn't have paid $50 for a case anyway.

One I am currently looking at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GQO4T60/ref=gno_cart_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1EU8BQXI93JVJ
Another by the same company: http://www.amazon.com/Nillkin-Fresh...d=1384912578&sr=1-10&keywords=nillkin+nexus+5

WOW £45.98 in the UK $74.10
Just ordered it! WOOT!! Hate the price but it'll look so good. Wife will kill me though $67 bucks is very steep for a case...seriously!
The price seems crazy. But then I realize I usually end up buying multiple cases for my phone anyway because I never seem to be satisfied with the cheaper cases. So perhaps I should just suck it up and spend $50 on a case I like instead of $50 on 4 different cases I don't care much for. I'm still working that argument out in my head though.
I am disappointed to see though that the NEXUS logo isn't on the back on the LG cover like it is on the bumper case. I realize it's the "LG" quick cover, but still, at that price the Nexus logo would have been nice. At least it would make the decision a little easier for me.

I agree completely with the LED thing. Since this device has a round speaker, it's just begging to have a circle cut out of each side...
Too bad there isn't a cutout for the notification light. I wonder if one could be added with a hole punch. That's a lot of money to to find out. You must be able to answer it with the case on or do people answer it, close the cover and then listen?
Got mine this morning. The look, fit and feel is perfect (well, for me anyway). I had gotten used to the S-Cover feature of the S4 so it was nice to have the little magnet back. Not willing to take a hole punch to it just yet though.

The hole would be nice, but aesthetically, it would not look as good as the screen border is black and would not contrast well with the White. They are going for a smooth consistently white look and putting that hole there would mess it up. But I digress.
Too bad no NeXus branding on the face.
Anymore comment on that one?
Is there even a point in having the cutout for the speaker? They could just reverse it and have the cutout for the LED instead of the speaker. Do people actually talk with the cover on?
Can you comment on the cover after some time of use?
Ordered Mine last week and was excited to get it and low and behold....Google decided to lump my package with a 184 others and didn't list the contents of my package, thus, it's being held until the proper paperwork goes through. Holy Crap I'm irritated! I was expecting it to be delivered today but no....:crying:
...Ok...I'm done whining.
I got mine last week. Unfortunately I have notices one of the corners doesn't quite go in properly. The screen sticks up slightly. For the money I was expecting it to be perfect. Rang Google, and just waiting to see if they will refund me or not as they would not replace.
EDIT - They have agreed to refund me.

Spigen Slim Armor View for Nexus 5

Check out my video review on the Spigen Slim Armor View:
https://wwwyoutube.com/watch?v=Kqc0gUDvueU
One thing I forgot to mention in the video is the auto sleep/wake function. This allows the screen to sleep just like with regular usage. When you wake the phone using the standby button the app will still be running.
I do not have enough posts to place an external link in a thread, so you will have to put a dot after the www in the link.
It would be great if someone could post the proper link.
Here you go, embedded it for you.
Very well done review! Nice detail and the video is super clear.

Their app really really sucks. I don't know why I thought it'd be good. Mostly all of their products suck I'm kinda happy with the case but still have issues with it. Under the window its still plastic not rubber so the plastic is resting right on the screen and the front cover is really thin and it bugs me just because I can press down on it and it will touch the screen. I don't have a screen protector on it so this is a concern. Its alright but I'll definitely be looking for a new case. Hard to hold while texting and the hinge is kinda crappy. They say 360° but I don't see how they got 360 when that means a complete rotation. It flips on its back and that's only 180°. But at least it doesn't cover the camera.

Again to dig up the old topic...
but...
... no reason to start a new thread as anyone looking to buy this case should be able to find all opinions in one place.
I bought this case have extremely mixed feelings.
1, it's a great case. It fits well. The buttons require a little extra effort to push, but no big deal. Supposedly the flip cover is removable, but I haven't seen how to do it without breaking the hinge. I'm sure it can be done, but I'm afraid to push things. Definitely it makes the phone bigger and heavier, but I don't see that as a bad thing as honestly the phone is a featherweight without a case. One minor issue with the physical build, is that the bottom edge of the view window brushes the screen of the phone while closed. Being plastic, I'm sure it wouldn't affect the glass screen. However, it does appear to be starting to leave a worn spot on the screen protector of my phone after only a few weeks. Something to definitely think of if you use plastic screen protectors.
2, the software is incredibly incredibly terrible. Whether you use 3rd party or the official Spigen app, they both bite the big one. I can't review each separately because I swapped between them constantly as new problems appeared, and forgot which one had which problems. But problems included: battery usage. phone calls not answering. phone calls answering themselves. can't connect bluetooth outgoing calls without opening flip cover. randomly lists previous calls as still ongoing. Additionally, though this isn't technically software, you have to be exceedingly careful not to even get near the proximity sensor while using the phone or it will trigger the app. Even with a 2 second proximity delay, I found it was very hard especially in landscape mode (such as taking pictures) to not accidentally trigger the sensor. Also, having the light sensor covered renders auto brightness non functional.
In the end, I still use the case. But without proper software support, I'm not sure it is worth $45. I ended up just putting widgets on my homescreens on the top 1/2 of the screen so I can see them with the flip cover closed. Answering the phone requires the ol' open the flip cover deal. That's better than the terrible software.
As far as protection... considering my Nexus 4 shattered from a drop onto dirt, despite having a Ringke Hybrid Fusion installed, I was looking for better protection. It appears this offers much better protection. It has already survived a 3 foot drop, initiated by a cranky cat, from a piano to a hardwood floor. Only time will tell, of course.
If you don't mind NOT having the software support... I feel this might just be the safest your Nexus 5 can be without placing it in a firesafe filled with expanding foam.
My buddy ordered this case a while ago, loved it, then hated it. Some of you were concerned about the view window touching the screen and potentially scratching it, well it did, for him at least. He now has a dull line across the middle of his screen. Almost the whole width. This only took 2 weeks of use. Just a little FYI for those interested in this case. You'll definitely want to use a screen protector with it.
Yeah my screen got deep scratches as well I can see them on the otherwise of my now installed screen protector. Its a nice case. Terrible window. And terrible app. The Galaxy S4 view armor had glass in the case itself. I bought this because I thought it did too.

I have bombed spigen's email with complaints and they do not even bother to reply - it's such a shame that a company would make a great case, with promises of a functioning app and not follow through. My brother (note 3) and my gf (S4) BOTH bought this case on my recommendation and they love it bc it just works. I know it's different bc we dont have the magnets to trigger the innerworkings but sheesh just give us something relatively useful and it would be okay.

I'd be willing to give a little pass on the proximity sensor issues if those were the ONLY issues.
Sooo, spigen supplys the case but no app?
Or does anyone have more info then that, i ordered the case before i read up on it in here... and now i have it laying on my desk and i am not sure if i sould unpack it or not.
Without the app the window is pointless... and i could have ordered the slim armor instead and saved a few bucks ...
but i really liked the idea of having my screen protected by a secon layer of defense .. first one is obviously a screen foil ...
can anyone confirm that the app is really missing or am i just to stupid to use the search function?

[Q] Cover App

So I'm, guessing this feature utilizes a reed switch. Is it polarized? The reason i ask is, I got a cheap knock off of the Asus case. The cover app did not work. So I took a magnet and moved it around on the front of the phone. Still did not work. Dropped the magnet and when I picked it up and tried again, it worked. I then turned the magnet around so the other side was facing the phone, again it didn't work. With that knowledge, I tried putting the front of the case up to the phone. It worked, the circle app came on. I opened up up the case and moved the part that SHOULD be against the front of the phone around and nothing.
Obviously on my phone it is polarized. Should it be? If the authentic Asus case is of good quality I don't mind spending 40 bucks on one but I want to make sure there is nothing wrong with the phone first.

Buy the official one. I got it for free, but I would happily pay for it. It's worth it.
A lot of third party cases tend to fail with these features. They seem to just throw it together as fast as possible and don't test it properly to make sure it actually works.
Yeah, as long as I can determine that nothing is wrong with the phone I will. But should a reed switch only work with one side of a magnet?
Also, what is the quality of the authentic? Is it genuine leather? Does it seem like something that will hold up well?

The plastic that covers the circle feels kind of cheap, but everything else feels solid. No idea if it's real leather, doesn't really seem like it, but I could be wrong.
Thanks Harfainx. I just ordered one. I hope the polarization on the reed switch is normal and not a defect.

You definitely don`t have a reed switch in the phone, it will be a hall effect switch which will switch whenever a magnet comes close enough to trip it. N or S pole irrelevant in operation, its pure proximity. :good:
Thanks for that information. I've never heard of a hall effect switch, just assumed it was a reed switch since it's activated by a magnet.
So maybe something is defective with mine then. Like I said, holding the front of the case up to the screen activates it, but the back side, that should be against the screen doesn't. Guess I'll just have to wait till the authentic case arrives and see what happens. Off now to read up on hall effect switches.
Sorry for not following up on this sooner. My dog died last week and it's been pretty tough for me.
Got the original and it works perfectly. The knock off worked if I held the front of it up to the screen. So it seems the switch is polarized and it was put in backwards in the cheap one.
Quality isn't bad. And the tempered glass screen protector fits perfect with it. I've had a few people who saw it and commented on how cool the circle thing is. Well worth the 40 bucks.
