The Galaxy tab does not support Qi charging built in. To only way to support wireless charging would be to add a universal micro USB Qi receiver such as the one in the link below. However based on the size of the tablet, not sure if this would even work well due to the position of where the receiver would sit in comparison to the charger. Personally, don't think it's worth it on this tablet.
http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Wireless-Charging-Micro-USB-narrow-interface/dp/B00JQ4YWVE/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1420055644&sr=8-12&keywords=usb+qi+receiver

There is a reason, which is to reduce the wear and the chance of breaking the usb port. 2 different phones I was able to keep using for a year after the usb port broke because I had hacked in the receiver from the Palm Pre. There was no way (for me, without more exotic equipment than a fine tip soldering pen) to re-solder the usb port. Too much stuff crowded around it and it was surface mount. But I could get 2 wires on to the ground and +5v easy.
Warranty isn't an option unless you never rooted, so that leaves having to be very careful never to break this weak point for the next 5 years.
Myself, I can't see sticking that thing on mine either, I'm just saying that there are reasons one might want to and it's not automatically ridiculous or pointless.

Don't get me wrong, I love wireless charging and have been using it for a couple of years now on my phones. I also thought about it for my LG G Pad 8.3 tablet. However don't think its a good option for the 10.5. Reason is as I mentioned, positioning. Most chargers are small. Positioning the tab on it may prove to be challenging due to sign. I think it would end up leaning off to one side and not being able to get in a good position. Thus would be frustrating. I think the 8.4 would stand a better chance but not the 10.5. Just my opinion anyway.

You could probably just put the charger on the tablet in that case. It's also perfectly possible to make your own tray that has the charger embedded in it.

For devices too large for the charger. Cut a piece of cork(same thickness of the charger) to the size of the largest device that needs charging. Cut out a hole to imbed the charger into the cork. Cut out a hole in the end of the cork for the charger power cord. The end result is the charger and the cork will provide a nice flush surface to charge any size tablet.
An easier way to charge tablets is to lay the tablet face down and set the charger upside down on the bottom of the tablet.

QI is designed for phone
Guys,
Ive been charging my tab (had a couple.. current one is Samsung Tab A) for years.
I simply buy a charging receiver with a USB connection. Plug it in, tape it onto the back and away you go...BUT...
USB charging receivers are designed for phones. 2000, 3000mah batteries so a charging input of 1000mah is ok. The tab battery is 6000 so a 1000 charger is Slooow
Most USB (wall) chargers are 1000mah and/or 2500mah.
wish someone would make a 2500 qi qharging receiver.... then life would be much better.
Even thought of updating my tab so I have faster CPU and USb type C connection... problem is QI for USB-C is also only 1000mah... WHY???
Faster charging would be much better

My Accessory Cache - 4 Reviews in 1

So I went a little crazy today. Before k begin, I need to explain some events leading up to this accessory shopping spree. I have been out from work for 5 weeks while recovering from lumbar back surgery. For the 2 weeks prior to surgery and during my recovery I had 4 Asus Transformers. This week i had enough with 2nd and 4th chances. Dont get me wrong, Asus made a great product. I would be still using if I got my hands on a July unit. HOWEVER, 1 week with the Tab 10.1 and I am wondering why I was so hung up on ports. I go back to work Monday. So I am going to rely heavily on this light and thin wonder, meanwhile my work laptop will be 'bolted' to my desk (too big and heavy still to tote around.) Here are the accessories I picked up today and my initial thoughts.
1) Keyboard Dock - This keyboard is compact but they aren't joking when they say full size. Having owned and used the Asus Keyboard for the Transformer, the Samsung kit is far more productive for me. I felt sort of cramped on the Asus and always had to disable the trackpad. Thumbs would glaze it and cursor would end up where it shouldn't be. The dock lit right up. No funky hide the clock, and I just had to change from ThumbKeyboard to Samsung. This is easily done with the notification option when using any keyboard in Honeycomb. Once I undock, it was a breeze to switch back to ThumbKeyboard. The dock had no tight squeezes on the unit itself or the invisible shield.
2) Media Dock - I did get the clock screen. Tapping back took me back to my last used activity. From there I could home, recent apps, or back my way out. Not tired the HDMI pass through as I don't have the adapter, and ill hook up my work deal speakers on Monday. The angle is great for my sitting height at my desk or event when standing. The ease of docking/undocking was easy. The downer is the front inside edge of the dock cradle has to little tiny notches. They tend to ruffle the invisible shield in the lower L/R corners of the Tab. You can flattened back out once you undocn. But I am sure it'll result in a new invisible shield periodically. this is going to sit on my desk at work. That way I can charge, use, listen to music, or multi task while my work laptop is in tied up. It'll function perfectly for that purpose, but the Invisible Shield wear and tear will be a test to see if it stays.
3) Samsung Wall Charger - Just like the one included with the tablet. Same length and module wall plug. Will use with Media dock while included plug will stay at home with Keyboard Dock. I've learned my lesson with non OEM chargers... they can damage your battery and its ability to hold charge. So I am drawn to OEM plugs or certified by OEM partners. But honestly $50 for a 3ft cable and wall plug? Even the Apple chargers are less than that. But no alternatives mean I pay the price.
4) Samsung Leather Pounch - I was very shocked when I pulled it out of the case! THIS THING IS NICE! High quality leather and soft felt interior, but most importantly it is thinner than the Tab itself. Therefore it does not double or tripple the thickness of the Tab's thin profile. Which is what drew me to the tab to begin with. It will work great to transport to/from/around work and other travel needs. I highly recommend for those who don't want a flipper always dangling around while thumbing it. I found that a annoying with my iPAD1 and Asus experiences. So if you aren't a fan of the full size keyboard and angle setup, this will be a great thin, light, and safe method to protect your tablet. It is basic but stylish. Best of all its a 1 step process to remove the Tab10.1 for docking with the above.
So.... I am actually looking forward to returning to work Monday now. LOL. Mission accomplished. The Bluetooth keyboard and notebook case were on my lost but no one has then in stock yet to examine. The two Belkin cases were very nice and high quality, but they both add considerable mass. And most importantly require more than 1 step to remove the Tab for docking. That is not desirable to me as over time it makes the safe guards that keep the tablet from falling out of the less effective.
I hope this is helpful. I know there are a few other review and comments about the two docks. But I wanted to give more of a 'my personal setup' perspective to my review as well as share why personally a stable and pimped out tablet is so important to me right now.
Enjoy and let me know of you have any questions or comments.

There are plenty of alternatives. A solder blob and a resistor turns an iPad charger into a Tab 10.1 charger. There's also a good possibility that a kernel tweak will allow the Tab 10.1 to use unmodified iPad chargers (I just need to find if there are separate ADC channels for D+ and D-)
There is NO reason why any iPad charger could damage the Tab - USB is USB is USB, 5 volts is 5 volts is 5 volts. Samsung's weird detection resistors violate the USB Battery Charging standard (so do iDevices for that matter), and it is purely a racket to milk money from users.
Your views on OEM chargers are archaic and date back to the days when dumphones were so dumb that charge control intelligence was in the charger/power supply and not in the phone itself. This hasn't been valid for 95%+ of phones for years, and isn't valid for 99% of the devices that are discussed here on XDA, if any. These days, if a battery in a smartphone or tablet gets damaged by improper charging, the device itself and only the device is to blame, because all charge control intelligence has been moved into the device.
I disagree. I bought non standard non OEM wall charger and cables for a Palm Pre. That was only 2 years ago. It fried both batteries and my battery charger pack. The batteries would degrade quickly upon operation and random reboots crept up. Techs examined the batteries and they tested bad. They had to replace.
I know there are 3rd party makers that can be trusted. But in the end the OEM and end user is going to only take so much before replacement get bothersome.

The only thing I can think of there is that the charger was weak and browned out, potentially confusing the phone's charging circuit.
Either that or the charger was SERIOUSLY defective. I'll be honest - before using a charger I do check that it is at least regulating to around 5 volts, so far I haven't had any surprises. The only surprise I've had were Monoprice "1A" chargers that were really only capable of 400-500 mA.
An iPad charger with the charging resistors tweaked so that D+ and D- are around 1.2 volts will be indistinguishable from the real deal for our tabs.

2013 Nexus 7 pogo pins?

Are these pins available on the 2013 Nexus 7 or did they put something else in place of those pins?

There are no pogo pins. Only ports are the USB port and headphone jack, and there's a qi wireless charger coil inside the tablet.

I prefer the clean look by having a dock with an analogue out to my home receiver. Now there is a nasty cord danglin'. I love the idea of wireless charging and I'm a total tech junkie but the efficiency isn't there, losing anywhere 15-20%. Honestly you're going to have to plug in the Qi so why not just plug the tablet in instead when needed?

Because micro USB connectors are fragile and wear down a lot faster than an AC plug. My last Nexus 7 had a broken micro USB connector because my 2-year old yanked it out.

I agree, the old dock/pogo pin setup was perfect; disappointed they removed that feature. Hopefully we get a dock similar to the old one for this device. Liked the way it sat in landscape.. loved watching movies on it without having to hold it and fall asleep with it.. drop it, break it...

I am mainly concerned with using POGO pins and meant and should have said,
"Honestly you're going to have to plug in the Qi so why not just plug the tablet put it on the POGO dock instead when needed?"
The point being about power use and features. With the Qi you are still plugging in a "dock" to the wall but without the added benefits, ie audio or video out or power efficiency. POGO does. Wireless charging in it's current state is not an upgrade. We can't even call it a convenience factor until most of our handheld devices are using the tech.
I agree that using direct USB connection to a device lends the rare possibility of damage from falling when being plugged in or the plug being yanked out or shoved in. I say rare possibility because in my case I don't have little ones running around. Nor have I had a USB wear out, and I use my devices constantly all day. Looseness of the receptor on the device can be an issue too I agree but I've only had that problem once. That's poor design on the manufacturers part. I know more people that have had broken devices from their kids just using them in general.
LoL My poor buddy's kid was running around with his toy hammer, jumped up on the bed where he was using it and with a swift swing, TWACK! Bye bye screen. Kids break ****. I know I did. POGO would have saved your Nexus.
A pogo connector would have been nice. But if Google is going to make use wait 8 months like every pogo accessory before, then it's pretty freaking worthless.
Another reason to stay with my old Nexus 7, which is not that old in fairness.

My first Nexus 7 (bought in September 2012) did have the Pogo pins but after it was stolen I bought a new one in December 2012 which doesn't have the pins.
I'm wondering now if the late 2012 models already have the wireless charging thingy.
Does anyone know?

Because it's easy to toss the device on the wireless charging pad when I get to my desk, and then grab-n-go when I need to step away.
Qi is better because u keep the nexus in your protection case.
The 2012 has the qi too, right?

[Q] Q: GTP 8.4 Wireless Charging?

I've been searching the interwebs and went to the Samsung store at Best Buy (mistake) and haven't been able to find a concrete answer.
Does the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 have wireless charging? Qi? Actually any of the new galaxy tab pro line?
The back is not replaceable like other galaxy devices so an aftermarket replacement back with wireless charging is not foreseeable correct?
Thanks for anyone who can help!

It does not have wireless charging. It would take a week to charge it even if it did.
I remember having the Palm Pre wireless charging puck and yes, it was slow. Even doing other things while having it wirelessly charge (watching a movie, playing a game, tethering) would slow the charging rate down to the point where it would actually discharge because the power drain was higher than the charging speed LOL
I had wireless charging on my nexus 7 and loved it. Yes it was slower but it was nice to not have to fiddle with USB cables in the dark. Batteries usually last the day so I just had to put it on at night. If bought 2 Nokia Qi chargers at att when they were on sale for $25. Now they are just collecting dust.

I have a G Pad and have a QI USB wireless charger receiver, basically plugs into USB and stick the coil on the back plate with sellotape haha!
The great thing about this is it can work on phones that don't support QI.
I have got a case off eBay to hide the receiver (it still chargers great) through the case.
I'd say the maximum charge distance was maybe 5 - 7 mm.
It is slow. About 13 - 14% an hour. (Stock was 9%)
I drop it on QI pad at night and its 100% when I get up.
I sometimes put it on when I go out and whatnot. I love it!
I can deal with the charging rate, because its a lot more convenient, I'm one that fiddles with USB cords haha!
Still use USB for phone but converting to full Wireless slowly.

New AC adapter & USB cable

My USB cable charger cord that came with my P-600 is starting to loosen up. You know, when you have to adjust out so it's in the slot just right in order for it to charge. I know that you can't use just any AC adapter combined with just any USB cord to get the power needed to charge a tablet fast and efficiently. Are there any recommendations out there for a new AC adapter and/or USB cord that has been proven to work well with this tablet? (Besides buying a replacement from Samsung.)
Thanks.

Right. I think most smartphone chargers won't even be able to charge a tablet at all because a tablet, any tablet, needs more power (volts) to charge it effectively. I've tried using my Galaxy S3 charger to charge my Note 10.1 just to see if it would work and it shows the charging icon with a line through it (doesn't charge at all).

Any charger will work, but the higher-wattage ones will charge faster. Samsung ones are available all over the place AMZN/FLEABAY/A4C/etc. for cheap (<$10).
My original charger and a supposed duplicate purchased later seem to be charging slower as time goes by. Just as with my last purchase have read a good bit. But I too need advice on the best safe but fast charger and cable. I'm seriously considering the above recommendation for the Anker 40w (8A) 5 port charger. At most I charge only two devices at one time and usually only one. But if this is solid and reliable, the extra ports are ok. Before ordering, several questions:
- I notice the write up states two ports have the IQ charging - is this the case and are they labeled?
- I'd be charging my LG G3 with this too - any issues doing this?
- Lastly, seems cable length/gauge can affect charging speed, right? Which cables are folks having best experience with? I'm considering: http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Premium...ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A294P4X9EWVXLJ. I prefer long cables if possible...
Bottom line, want a solid charger and cables for my Note 10.1 2014 Edition (and LG G3 if possible) that I won't have to replace in 6-12 months. If there's a two-port of same top quality, let me know too!
Thanks in advance!!

Went ahead and ordered the Anker charger and instead, am trying the http://www.amazon.com/Hi-mobiler-Go...8252875&sr=8-2&keywords=28/24+micro+usb+cable. See it's 28/24AWG hopefully will do the trick...only worried about the gold plating (ones tried before from Amazon seemed to get "lose" their prongs and slip out of my tablet's charging slot). Not sure if it's the gold being softer or ?
In any case, do let me know if anyone thinks the charger would create any issues if used on my LG G3!

All 5 ports are IQ.Charges a Note 10.1 2014, S4, Note 3, Z blue tooth headset and a LG tablet all at the same time and all quickly and fully. Great charger.
I found an issue with the Anker and one of the half a dozen devices of all kind I charged with it.
The touchscreen of my Huawei Tablet acts weird when connected to the Anker. This is a not uncommon thing, but first time i encountered it. And found the reason.
The Anker emits some weak 80v AC current on the GND line. Tested with another brand name charger(One for All, the universal remote maker). That one carried 20 Volts. My previous fav charger also emits AC, like with the Anker, the Texture of the tablet's aluminium case felt rougher during charging, when softly brushing over it with a finger tip. Only there were no touch troubles. Which can be avoided by touching the metal frame with your thumb during tapping the screen.

Is there any concern with this potentially causing damage, or just an inconvenience if plugged in while using the device (if one's unit was emitting that current)?
In my case, I haven't noticed this with either my Note 10.1 or LG G3. My guess is if it hasn't happened after a month or two, I don't need to be overly
concerned - the unit is functioning properly?
Personally, overall been happy with the Anker and haven't noticed any issues...
Thanks!
I had no damage so far, and the Note is happy with the Anker. And it seems that many or most chargers seem affected, like at least three of mine. Probably Samsung's too. Connect a multimeter to Usb 5v ground(the metal shield of the plugs seems to be griunded, though I tested with the plug for my Huawei tablet. Connect the meter's ground probe to something appropiate, like central heating, water pipe or the third line of the mains, which should be "protective ground" or something.
The current only produces a slightly bitter taste on the tongue, near nothing, but it's amazing how the feel of a metal surface changes.

Some questions on charging battery issue

Hey guys. Just wanna ask some question.
My note 10.1 2014 P601 is now running stock 5.1.1 un-rooted. Basically everything stock. I know that our Note need its own charger to work properly. But I lost the original charger long ago, and I've been using only the USB I bought separately to charge my tablet by connecting it to PC.
Now, my mother just bought a new phone (Galaxy A7) and when I try to charge my tablet with her charger, sometime it shows X mark (which means insufficient, exactly like when i connect to pc via USB cable) on the battery icon, but sometime it shows the lightning (which is fine) icon. The speed of the charge depends on that sign, if on lightning sign, from 0 to 100% takes about 4h. But if on the X mark sign, 4h will just get around 40%.
I don't really know what happened, but I have to unplug then re-plug again and again to get the lightning sign to come up. I then bought a new charger (from a legit well-known store and they said it's the best quality) and it does the same thing. I haven't got a chance to borrow anyone's original note charger yet as I found no one using this device. And now I start to think it's the problem with my Note more likely than anything. I haven't tried to reinstall the firmware either as I just updated the firmware like few months ago.
I've been using it for about a year btw. Sorry for my English. And looking forward to hear from you all.
The usb jack or its solder contacts may be damaged. Also, if no case is used and the backside of the Note squeezed when holding it in your hands, the cables for usb and display may work themselves slowly out of their pcb connectors. I don't know if the squeeze theory is right, but definitely there are many loose cables...
A charger must be Qualcomm Quickcharge or Apple iPad compatible, 5v 2A. I haven't used a Sammy Charger for a single time, tho they seem just too good to throw away.

A charger must be Qualcomm Quickcharge or Apple iPad compatible, 5v 2A. I haven't used a Sammy Charger for a single time, tho they seem just too good to throw away.

Are you sure the Qualcomm Quickcharge would work on this P601? I checked the list before and I didn't see the Note 10.1. Not even the Note 3 which was released together. I afraid that being "not compatible" might fry the device.
If you're using one and not having any problem, can you post the link to the product that you're using and working well?
I forgot about the different SoCs. However, all models charge at 5v/2A and the signaling technique used for Quickcharge seems to be borrowed from that of the Apple iPad, the Exynos based models should be just the same. I plugged my Note into an Apple compatible charger, which was from a time when Android smartphones were charging at 0,9A and Android tablets had proprietory connectors, and it was charging at 2A.
