The answer is
1. to backup the ta you need a tool called backup TA from the cross development section
2. you don't need to unlock ti backup ta
3. You must be rooted to backup the ta partitions

good job bro!
I just wanted to ask if we could unock the bootloader using flashtool so there's no chance of voiding warranty. As backing up TA would save DRM keys.
Yes u can unlock it using flashtool. I am windows 8 so i find unlocking with fastboot is easier and it just just cause 6 mb of data.

You need to restore the stock boot partition because restoring TA partition will relock the device or else you will soft-brick it. If you have a dump of it you can restore it before restoring TA partition, otherwise you need to reflash with flashtool or SUS.
This is what I learnt from other Xperia devices in general.

Can you still use SEUS when you have unlocked the bootloader to restore the original firmware prior to re-locking bootloader?
I thought it would be via flashtool only, because as soon as you unlock the bootloader you lose access to PC companion and SEUS.
The reason I ask is I have an XPERIA X10i and you can use anything at any time and it doesn't care.(brilliant olde device)
With my XPERIA S, I only have flashtool, as SEUS and PC Companion (and Sony OTA upgrade) are 'lost' after the bootloader is unlocked.

Really? PC Companion can recognize my Xperia M. Haven't tried SUS restore but it should work, shouldn't it? FOTA updates are known to brick unlocked Xperia devices so I strongly advice you not to try it.
But anyway if you've already restored the TA partition you already have a locked bootloader

PC companion still can recognize your phone even you've unlocked your bootloader, but updating your phone with SUS / PCC will surely brick your phone.
The only way to restore to the original firmware is using Flashtool or EMMA :fingers-crossed:

I dont think Pc companion will brick your phone! I never heard of this things and yes updating through FOTA can definitely brick your phone. Although i recommend not to unlock bootloader unless you are an advance user or a developer.
Sony xperia M gives very good performance over stock so noo need of scripts and other stuff, and i hope someone will develop CWM for locked bootloader too.

I have NOT backed up my DRM keys.. and I have an unlocked bootloader...
I connected my XM SS to Sony PCC..
It did recognize my phone.. However it did not update it stating that I am using a modified software..
Flashtool (EMMA) also recognized my phone.. but dint allow me to update my phone..
And my phone is not BRICKED..
Can you be more descriptive on the exact instructions on how you can relock XM whose DRM keys are not backed up?
Has anyone tried this?
Please quote and reply and share the method if you have tried this on a C1904 XM SS and if it is working !!!!
Thanks
I have a question...
How will I be able to backup my TA partition if root is required? I have not yet rooted my phone. I only rely on official procedures because I have bricked my two other phones previously. Have you had root installed on your phone when backing up TA partition?

[Read] Before Unlocking your Bootloader

It has been confirmed that unlocking the bootloader will infect and damage TA partition of Xperia M and you will lose your DRM keys forever and loose warranty too..
So it is necessary to backup your TA partition before unlocking the bootloader. After that we can always restore the TA partition and get the warranty back.
For this purpose DevShaft has created a tool that will help you backup the TA partition. So give him a thanks for his awesome work.
For more info you can check out his thread his thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
How to??
1.Download Backup TA tool (https://github.com/DevShaft/Backup-TA/tags) thank to DevShaft after you download!!
2.Extract it and connect your device to pc normally
3.Double click and run Backup-TA.bat
4.Follow on screen procedure.
5.Do what you want backup or restore from it.
When you want to restore your TA partition make sure you are on stock kernel and rom to avoid further problems.
Good Luck
Note:Never restore TA partition from another similar or even a same model device cause it will hard brick yours.:good: Every device has its own TA partition!!!
There was another thread like this. Anyway we need to get a mod to pin either one.
This message was brought to you by my Sony Xperia M (C1905), using the XDA app.

Restoring TA partition question

Hi everyone,
I have my TA partition backed up.
I've read somewhere here that if I restore TA partition it would also relock the bootloader.
Is that true?
I want to restore my TA partition, relock the bootloader, then flash a ftf (Customized USA 14.5.A.0.242 / R2D ) from XperiFirm. I would also be following this guide
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/1...xperia-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool
Click to collapse
Should I restore my TA, then relock bootloader, then flash ftf?
Or I can just restore TA (that would also relock the bootloader as a i was asking above), then flash ftf?
Also, I'm on XZDualRecovery, would I lose it (which I would actually want to do) when I restore my TA? or if I flash a ftf?
Basically what I'm looking on here is to restore my phone like it was just bough from a store but with the latest stock ftf.
Thanks

- relocking the bootloader does not restore your TA
- but restoring the TA partition relocks the bootloader
- by flashing a ftf you will loose your custom recovery
to restore a phone like you bought it just do the following steps:
1. restore the TA partition
2. flash a .ftf official from Sony with flashtool
3.reboot
and you are done

What to backup before unlocking bl and flashing rom (cm)

I looked around but didn't seem to find a decent list of everything I should backup before unlocking bl on my XM (C1905) and flashing cm.
I came across the following items:
+ TA: backup for keys using Backup TA . Can anyone confirm this even still works since it is unmaintained.
+ appdata: using Titanium
+ nandroid: I need cwm for this, right? And for cwm, I have to unlock bl so there is no way to make nandroid backup without unlocking bl first?
Is this everything I need if one day I decide to want to go back to the current state of my phone?
Thanks for any help
Current phone information and state:
C1905
official rom build 15.4.A.0.23 (JB 4.3)
rooted
odexed
locked bootloader (but unlockable)

If you take a backup fo your TA then to reset your phone to original state you would need this tool alongwith flashtool and your stock rom from xperifirm.
Thanks a lot guys. Now I feel (kinda) safe to go ahead and try cm. Good thing that you mention phone data, cause I completely forgot about that.

We do have the same specs of xperia M
Sorry for the late response. I don't remember if I did the dry-run.
Maybe stupid question, but did you put image where it is expected (/sdcard/backupTA.img) ?
