Guess I've been out of the loop. I'm running the previous 4.4.4; can this just be installed in recovery or does this bring in a new bootloader? Have you seen any differences with the new modem?
Thanks for helping keep the development rolling with the S4!

If you want the new bootloader and all that flash the full firmware, I have it posted in my firmware thread in general.
Just flash via twrp/cwr/Philz
Dunno. I no longer have the device. Upgraded to the s5 and gave my 4 to my mom

I have a sprint s4. I unlocked it domestically using tutorials available in XDA and I'm using my phone on Tmobile now. Is it possible to flash this ROM to get WiFi calling?

Sir
may ask if you have S4 tw 4.4.4 stock systemui with flashlight?
Love you ROM but my eyes failed me. And I can't use SICKs because I detest 3minit framework.
Thanks in advance

Do we flash the modem file in Odin?
How about the kernel? in TWRP?
So what should be the order.
Flash modem in odin,
then full rom in TWRP then lastly the kernel?
thanks in advance.

Modems always with odin.
Kernel, twrp
Modem, rom, kernel
Rom kernel modem
Rom modem kernel.
Doesn't really matter. Except rom before kernel.

Thanks for your fast reply. I'm having a difficult time getting this to work.
I did the modem, before i even did anything else and verified that the baseband said nk2.
Then i tried installing the rom, and then immediately installing the kernal, then booting into system.
It all seems to work but i can't seem to get wifi to turn on. So i tried wiping all again, and booting into system and same thing.
Any suggestions? I'm trying to flash the system again without the kernel and will see if it works. Can you help explain what the kernel does?
thanks shinyside

Shouldn't have an issue, least none of the 60 download and runners, have said anything or reported any issues.
What bootloader and such are you on?
Just set to permissive, or should be haha, I don't have my s4 anymore to check. Should say permissive in Settings. Stock kernel is set to enforcing which is a "security" thing that blocks stuff like a lot of root apps or xposed/xposed modules from working properly. It's the stock kernel, just the ramdisk is edited to be permissive.

Can't seem to get it to work. So i just restored a old backup i had of your stock NH7 rom and wifi works in there.... so i then proceded to try to flash the new rom over the NH7 version but after it all booted up, wifi not working again
For me at least seems that wifi not working in Nk2

Modem using Odin. There is instruction written for nh7. Exact procedure should be used. Reboot to make sure you have the new modem. Then flash rom immediately flash the permissive kennel. If you want you can also flash supersu 2.40 then reboot

Flash a different kernel. WiFi will work. Check sickness mod v5. It has few kernels you can use

Hey if you still want the flashlight send me the secsettings and systemui apks. I already deleted the zip off my pc

What are the major differences between NH7 / NK2?
Thanks for your continued support and efforts with the Galaxy S4 development.
My question is this, if I may . . .
What are the major differences between NH7 / NK2?
Was there some new service that Samsung rolled out?
In what way is NK2 better than NH7 ?
Thanks in advance for your reply . . . :good:

From what I know using both: modem (baseband) and additional support languages.
From what I have experienced, lte reception is a tat better.
I would just flash the modem unless you like stock.

Stock is always nice, but I was thinking that there was a new service that was an addition to what was previously released.
Thinking that there was a cross over to Lollipop with a touch-wiz enhancement.
Some new security level or even a Samsung service with data like you mentioned enhancement with LTE. . .
Even though it is Stock, I sure would like to know what was different about this release and why is Samsung pushing this release out.
Hopefully it wont be long before other developers pick this puppy up and tweak the heck of the property build and include the 4 way reboot and such . ...
Stock is always sweet :good:

You'd have use the settings, framework, system ui, mms, contacts, phone, and all to use the systemui and settings from HispAsian. I modded and themed the living hell out of that rom, and you'd have some major text issues and other ui issues, using its systemui and settings in this base among other issues probably. Have to use the ones from the base and just mod it in

[Q] 4.3 aosp cm 10.2 slow data speeds? newer gs3

Hey everyone,
Got a small problem, I just flashed the latest 10.2 cm nightly because I want a true aosp ROM on my "newer" gs3. Since flashing the ROM my data speeds have significantly slowed. I came from the 3.9.5 dandroid touchwiz and had fantastic 4g lte speeds for my location (about 4.5 MBS) now on the cm nightly I'm barely breaking 1 MBS and that's if I even receive my lte connection. I tinkered with the APN setting and am running on the sprint lte internet APN but isn't helping much. Is it a radio issue?
Thanks guys
Did you take note of what your baseband and what each kernel was in each rom? Is every ROM using the same baseband or is one possibly using an older version? What does the signal strength say as well? That would be under settings>about> or something like that. Current baseband is MD4.

base brand
My base brand on this ROM is l710pvbjl7 not md4, do I need to flash a new kernel to change this? Also its says LTE in signal status or 3g but only 1 bar and very weak
Do you have custom recovery?
Do you have your data backed up?
If you can do a nandroid I would and try flashing the baseband, it might make a difference. You can always nandroid back then.
EDIT: This is where you can find the MD4 firmware. It is at the end of the first post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947

Baseband is stored in places that rom flashes do not touch. They are independent of each other, and I've yet to see a dev even mess with installing a particular modem when you install their rom.

Yup, only OTA's will contain both firmware (modem, etc) and the updated software
Go to Google play store and download network info II. There will be a tab with your signal dBm. What does that say? You might be having the same issue from my other thread.

I always appeared to have slower download speeds via Speedtest.net. Try Sensorly (they just had a large update) and their speedtest servers are awesome. I pulled 30+ in a spot I usually get 23-25. You may find it's the way Ookla's speedtest app is run in AOSP.

[Q] No LTE after CM 10.2 install on SPH-L710

Hello,
I have gotten some great help here on xda and have tried different modems (MD4 works best, MK3 caused battery drain, MB1 no service) I have been told to flash a touchwiz ROM and grab the APN then flash back to CM. I have not been able to find a touchwiz ROM that will work and on top of that, all the download sites have really annoying adware. Can anyone point me in the direction of a TWR that will work on my phone so I can get LTE finally?
Thank you in advance for your input and help and thank you to all that have offered advice on other threads.
flash a TW rom thats the same version as your current cm (4.3?), that should work no matter what

Sorry about that. I checked the first page then went straight to Google.
I flashed the modem but no APNs or networks are showing up. My baseband also says unknown.
I believe I have to flash this /firmwares/3/?download=22863 (domain is sammobile)
Do I need to use Odin or can I just flash it in TWRP? Will I need to reinstall my ROM after that?
Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks.

Did you download the correct version of carbon?
I'm using DN3 from AT&T forum and working fine and still on 4.1.2 bootloader (with agni kernel).
If you download that from sammobile, you will be on 4.3 bootloader... and there is no going back to 4.1.2. The only reason for 4.3 is wifi working without using wifi fix or different kernel. I'll be on 4.1.2 until I have to change.
This is OP. Got my account back.
I flashed the modem (is that all you're supposed to do? No wiping any thing) and had the same issues. My IMEI is also gone.
Restored back to a previous backup and now have my IMEI, baseband, and everything working.
I re downloaded the 7/04 carbon nightly with the most recent KK gapps and I'm having the same issues.
For now I'm on my old ROM unless some one can help.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using XDA Free mobile app
Modems are specific to device and you should never flash a modem meant for any other devices. MK7 is the most up to date modem for SGH-T889.
For now flashing MK7 modem should bring back your IMEI.

Make certain you are on the most current recovery be it CWM or TWRP or variants thereof. Also make certain you are flashing the version appropriate for your model. N7105 (Note 2 Int'l) or I317 (AT&T) would be OK for a T889 if a T889 version is not available.
Updating TWRP fixed it. Thanks, I had no idea that could cause problems.

Sorry, don't have an answer to that?
edit: did read that it works on slimkat 4.4 ROM... so there is a possible fix.

kernel question

am currently on mj2 bootloader/mj2 modem runnning a 4.4.2 rom. question is would i be ok with a NE4 (4.4.2) kernel on my 4.4.2 rom ?
or does bootloader and modem version matter?
any help/advice is appreciated.
(not really wanting to upgrade modem or bootloader).
err on the side of kindness
If you're on s 4.4.2 ROM, youve already got a 4.4.2 kernel. The kernel always has to match the ROM, so if you want a different 4.4.2 kernel than what you already have, it is OK to flash it. However, some things such as WiFi or mobile data may or may not work without the matching firmware. If that happens you will have to use a custom kernel that includes its own modules.
If you currently are using the kt747 kernel though, it does include those modules, so if you flash a stock NE4 kernel, you'll have to copy the modules from a stock NE4 ROM as well. (Or reflash the ROM if it already has the stock kernel and modules.). What ROM are you currently using?
Hope that all made sense!

clean flashed rom then new kernel , stuck on samsung logo.
flashed kernel then rom and ended up with stock kernel.
uh.....so copy the modules from a NE4 ROM to the new kernel or to the ROM ? srry not to savvy on this stuff (i mean , after all , i did unlock an unlocked bootloader. lol)
err on the side of kindness
Coming from Quantum ROM, you'll have to factory reset. You have to whenever going to it from touchwiz to non touch wiz or it'll hang at boot.
Also flash the kernel after the ROM. ROM includes a kernel so by flashing the ROM second it replaces the kernel on it before.

Oops! Sorry. Just realized you said you clean flashed when it wouldn't boot. Might be due to the older firmware, not totally sure on that though.
Try flashing just the ROM and then boot up and wait about 5 min. Then flash the insecure kernel and see if that solves it.

If all else fails, and you're on a touch wiz ROM, there's an app called SeLinux mode changer (I think). It should work if nothing else does.

have tried SELinux mode changer but did not work on quantum or cm. have not tried on touch wiz though. thank you for help.

Yeah, AFAIK, nothing has been found that will work on cm/aosp based ROMs.

Extreme Syndicate ROM Discussion Thread

Hey Everyone!
I am at it again! I have made leaps today with my custom ROM.
It is not ready for release just yet but wanted to get a thread started for when it is ready, to get some opinions and further clarification.
Required:
1) Any G930 US Variant
2) Must be on the G930U PEH firmware prior to my ROM
3) Rooted with Flashfire
4) I highly recommend you know how to push apks. It will start out lightly debloated but will be extremely debloated by the time I finish!
What will it contain in v1?
1) Pre rooted
2) Debloated
3) Xposed
4) V4A
5) Might be missing stuff for v1, wait and see!
Suggestions?
Please post early suggestions below. They might not be considered for build 1 but will all beconsidered as we go.
Questions?
1) Maybe someone can chime in but to my knowledge the U firmware will work on any US variant S7? I am asking for clarification since my reasoning of using the U firmware is for it to be useable on all US variants to avoid having to develop for every variant separately (I dont have time for this.)

1. Will you provide links to or host a copy of the G930U PEH firmware?
2. I suppose that since this is the universal firmware, Verizon's Mobile Hotspot provisioning will not prevent us from using Native Mobile Hotspotting....can you confirm...and if not, can you apply a a modded version of the Mobile Hotspot software that bypasses the provisioning (similar to what psouza has done with his VZW debloat script for PE1)

1) I am going to use a rom.zip but you will still need the eng boot to have root i believe so odin 930U then root usig eng boot then flash my ROzm in FF
2) his rom is in the vzw s7e forum
Is the goal here to remedy the battery life issues and CPU hangs that the eng boot/root process created? I'm excited!

The zips provided by psouza are for the PE1 build only. He mentioned somewhere in his thread that it has to be compiled for each build.

I recommend you check out my other rom threads to see what the goal is..
essentially I shoot for an extremely debloated rom which typically does include better speed and battery life but that is more of a side effect imo

Not necessarily. some of it does work.. ideally however i like to bake things in.. the less zips to flash the better.. i wont worry too much as i dont release roms that dont work well to begin with

The fix/fix+debloat zip that disable Verizon's Wi-Fi hotspot tethering provisioning does so by writing a modified framework-res.apk to the device, therefor it needs to match the firmware version. The patch is not complicated though (it's literally just changing/clearing two XML values), so anyone could decompile a different version, patch the xml, recompile, re-sign, and bundle that for any Verizon firmware version.

Gotcha.. its not my top priority to be honest but its not difficult to do so ill most likely do it
I can confirm the U firmware works flawlessly on a G930V. I have also flashed @jrkruse's PlayStore ROM on my G930V, and it works great!
@elliwigy, I have used your ROMs in the past. Needless to say, I'm excited to see you are making one for the Verizon S7!

When does the FC happen exactly? I've had this issue when modifying ROMs, so I might be able to help.
