Looks like a great idea. One suggestion, though. How about a second setting for ambient mode? So that way we have the regular display on for X amount of time (maybe 5 minutes) then it switches to ambient display and that remains on for the selected duration. In any event, thanks!

Yup...I am testing out the G watch and 360, and having the G on all the time is nice...it's making it a tough call. The G has NO trouble getting through the day with the battery either...

[Q] customized light sensor

Is there any application or script available for customizing light sensor. So that we can set display light, key pad and button light intensity.
For example: for light 0 to 100 lux , display 40 percent. For light 101 to 200 lux display 60 percent. Etc etc

Cyanogenmod has these settings, you can set any values. Also Runnymede port to DZ has RCMix3D settings, there you can just chose 3 modes (default, lower, lowest).

None that I have found... CM7 has a great built in editor in cm settings. It can even reduce flicker, how sensitive it is (light sensor), and soft key lights. Takes some testing but it works great!
Don't forget the thanks button for the guy who helped you! I wouldn't mind one either

MIUI is a great ROM. Ofcourse it could be great if we can control display light settings
My app Lux does what you want (for the display, at least). The next update will let you manually enter lux/brightness value pairs. Currently it reads in lux values and lets you 'link' them to brightness values.

Yeah I'm using Lux, it does what OP wants quite well.
EDIT: Oh you're the developer, thanks for writing the app!

Thanks for the application.. I just bought it. it is working for me ofcourse atleast for brightness. It would be great after having buttons and key pad customization.
I am exploring the application and let you know in case of any suggestion.

Thank you.. Now I hope some battery life improvement as well. If Cyb3rGlitch is a developer of that application then he/she tried to fill a gap in android system, which I would have tried if I were a developer ;-). He did a good job anyways..

The problem with changing button brightness is that most phones don't honour the change. I'm going to hold off adding the feature until I get my hands on an official Google phone like the Nexus Prime.

Hmm ic
Well as far as desire z is concern i have tested customization feature of MIUI and cyanogenmod. Those worked well for button as well. The thing i noticed in these was that at the lower level of light i could not configure light intensity. i.e. at very dark level and at the normal room light level the output for display was same. But was trying to get almost 0 % for totaly dark room and atleast 20% display for nominal room light condition.
I am also searching for these feature in your application... I hope i will explore as much as possible.
That could be a limitation of the physical light sensor.

[Q] Set Default Dim to 50%

I have the opposite issue from most users that want the screen to dim very low. I am using the Galaxy Tab S as a kiosk and would like the default dim level to only go to 50 or 60%.
This seems like it should be a simple change of a file but I can't find anything that will help (No app or Google search). I looked in the Build.prop this was not in the file ro.lcd_min_brightness so I added it but it did not help.
I have not found a app that will help me set the minimum dim level they all need to be done by a button push I need this to be automatic.
As a kiosk the display will dim to 50% then when a user touches the screen the screen will go to 100% after 10 minutes it will dim back down again to 50%.
Thank you
Raymond
The device:
Samsung Galaxy Tab S
CyanogenMod 11-2015101-Unoffical-nvertigo-changallwifi
Android Version 4.4.4
Kernel version
3.4.105-nvertig0
Xposed Module
Would the Xposed Module work to dim the screen to 50%?
I found this module Sense 6 Lockscreen Mods [KK] which talks about "Adjust Background Dimming"
Thanks
You might be better off with an lcd display, an oled display is not really suited to 100% brightness for 10 minutes numerous times a day, even if the rest of the time it is at 50%, you card just asking for burn-in damage.

These are the unites we have on hand. I also have an attract screen so burn-in should not be too bad we had to deal with burn-in for years with the old style monitors. I need to lower the display screen to 50% because if it stays at 100% the unit gets too hot and the battery does not charges because heat is causing higher resistance.
Is there any way to set the minimum dim level? would Xposed work using the module Sense 6 Lockscreen Mod? I have been looking and can't seem to find the file(s) that set the minimum dim level.
Thank you
It`s a pity somebody could not make an app for you, try some android app write software, with millions of android apps out there it must be relatively easy to make them.
But keeping the tablet awake and the brightness at 50% until somebody touches the screen then boosting the brightness to 100% and keep the screen on till, no touches have been reported for the next 10 minutes and then reduce the screen brightness back to 50% and wait for the next input.

The brightness issue is the last thing I need to get working. I have an app that puts the tablet at fullscreen with no access to the systems nav and I have an app that will keep the screen on and will allow the system to go to sleep (set time in the sytems settings) but when it goes to sleep the dim is too dark and the tablet looks like it is off. All apps that I have found do not adjust the tablet minimum setting, thel y are all activated by some type of manual input.
Again any help or pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry but i am a bit brainless when it comes to things like that.
But i do have some advice, ask for an generic android app that will do what you want, not in the Samsung section, but in the general xda software/app development section wherever that is but their must be one, have a look though the xda main forum section, pm a mod and ask for directions.
The more specific to an brand and model the less help you will get, you want an general android app, that works on anything, not something that only works on the Samsung Tab S
Good Luck

Control watch brightness by swipe gesture from every screen

Check out this demo video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5seNbOB-aSs
Get the app here (100% free):

For me one of the most useful apps since the huawei watch has no sensors.
Its a little bit tricky at first, but with a little bit of practice, this will work fine. Dont forget to set the correct possition fields in the smartphone app.
Works like a charm.

Thanks, what an awesome little app! Since you've played with it more, what are the smaller boxes at the top and bottom of the position screen are for? Ideally I'd like the slider to work across the top of the watchface, but I haven't been able to figure that out yet.
Also, in your video, you say you can customize it to show the percentage or not. The percentage shows for me, but I don't see any options to customize it at all.
No go here, installed and I can turn the brightness down but not up again. To make things worse, a cold reboot is needed to get viewable brightness (aw 1.5 stock)
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It's cool but I feel it's just faster to press the button 3 times to temporary increase the brightness. Hopefully there's a light sensor on the HW2..

Not that i know of. Mine's completely stock, btw (v1.5).
EDIT: just so we're clear, you're not tapping on the screen, are you? I was referring to the metal button on the side. Press that quickly 3x and it'll increase the brightness.

Thanks, it does work after all. There just wasn't much difference with my watchface to notice the difference.
this was a good app recommendation ...
great app, and it goes darker then brightness 1 so already removed the other app I used for bedroom use

Moto Display/Approach Issue

Does anyone else have an issue with moto display/the approach feature?
This wouldn't work for me out of the box. I even tried a factory reset.
I tested the IR sensors and they work. So I don't know what it could be.
Check with Motorola customer support. It works perfectly for me.
I had an Moto X Style and moto display was easier to trigger.
On Moto Z Play it is a little harder but I found it is best to wave your hand on the top part of phone and a little closer, like 2 or 3 inches from it.
Do you have the Animator Duration setting in Developer Options set to 0? I think it needs to be at .5 or higher as it governs the duration of the Moto Display appearance time.

Thanks for this! I always set all the animation options to 0.5x to make the software seem faster, but had always thought that Moto Display didn't stay on long enough when I activated it. This fixed it.

I guess that's because the play uses the proximity sensor instead of the infrared sensor used in the X.

That just did it! I don't have to give up the Developer Options and have all the unnecessary animations (at least for me) eventually lagging the device!
Thanks a lot!!

Ambient Display Notification??

This is a very important question for me, for those who have received the phone, or will receive it today, please can you check if the notifications will show as ambient (screen black with notifications text only for a while) when receiving a new notification..? I know there is an always on display feature, but was wondering if with it, still the new notifications texts will show on a black screen for a while like the ambient display feature in the old pixel..
Really appreciate if someone can answer..
Anyone?
By now lots have received it, can someone give me an answer please..?
Yes as long as you have ambient display enabled it stays on with notifications under the clock.
https://youtu.be/hC_lFLzRH0U
At 1.13 you see the ambient notification and the aod on the right sided pixel 2 xl
Yes. It's just like the original pixel. When the notification comes on you get the full thing but afterwards you would get the clock and icon. Same thing on the Pixel 2 except the clock and icon doesn't need the device to be picked up.

It's actually not all black, but I am seeing a little color (1st gen Pixel was all white?) when ambient comes up during the initial notification, then it all goes back to Always On without the detail of the notification.

Actually i have the OG pixel on the side, and i remember that the title color of ambient notification matches the app (whatsapp then green) but rest is white..
Still waiting for my pixel 2 xl to arrive and see the difference..
