Brand New T-Mobile LG G3 - Just trying to update to build R - T-Mobile LG G3

Just bought the LG G3 after having an OnePlus One for about 3 months. It's a good phone, but doesn't seem to have quite as good of reception as my Unlocked, but AT&T branded S 4 did. So I decided upgrading to a T-Mobile LG G3 might not only give me better reception, but wifi calling which I was anxious to have the option to use.
The LG G3 is pretty great. Doesn't seem to have the OnePlus One's battery life, but it could be that I've only FULLY charged it two or three times yet, and been using it a LOT during the day while setting it up. Haven't totally drained the battery in a single day yet, but I don't seem to have quite the battery life the OnePlus One had.
Anyway, after having some trouble loading web sites, and sending text messages, I thought maybe I should update the phone software. Not looking for Lollipop, I just wanted the latest version of the T-Mobile software for the Soft White D851. The LG site says D85110r is the latest and greatest, and I only have D85110m. So I tried the OTA updates, and it says I'm up to date. I then called T-Mobile, who had me clear my phone cache, and if OTA didn't pull R, they told me to call LG. Just spent 20 minutes on the phone with LG, 15 minutes of it on hold. They didn't know how to make the update available for my phone, and when their own LG update tool told me I had the latest version (while using M), and not R like their website suggested, they promised to look into it, call T-Mobile for more information, and get back to me in 3 hours.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but with the data issues I'm having, and those seemingly having been addressed with a patch, obviously I'd like the new $500 phone to work at LEAST as well as the $350 phone that didn't have any trouble, just didn't have Wifi Calling, since T-Mobile doesn't sell a OnePlus One as "their" version of the device with T-Mobile Wifi Calling software included.
If anyone can comment on if R has helped them, and if you weren't getting it at first, what you did to get the update... it would be greatly appreciated. I heard a rumor in another thread that some stores were getting a lollipop update earlier today. That would be cool too, but I'm just trying to fix Kit Kat, before worrying about a whole new OS.

D85110R seem to be still in the rollout process. I just got it this week. I'm not aware of any major issues that it fixes, but I haven't had any significant issues.
New features
T-Mobile Free Inflight Texting support
Improvements
Bluetooth connectivity improvements
Wi-Fi connectivity improvements
UI improvements for T-Mobile Free Inflight Texting suport

I am still waiting on R also.

Thanks guys. It seems odd that more than a month after release, you can't just download this update onto any LG G3 that needs it. And my purchasing the phone for wifi calling would imply I'd like wifi to work well on the phone.
That said, the battery has been showing much longer life today, and I do like the phone. Just don't wanna wait past my 14 days, update, and have a problem ya know?
Cheers.

The M software build has WiFi calling too. Did you check your settings? The R update fixed some minor connection problems and enabled in-flight texting. Check the tmo website https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11935

I also have the OnePlus One, but had to get the G3 when the screen shattered. I also had 10m firmware but could not auto update to 10r. I finally gave in and downloaded the flashable zip and installed through recovery. Frankly, I could not see and added improvements on daily usage.

So I got this today when I checked my update center, I am still on m, not sure if this is the r update. Idk if it would be LP seeing as its only 231 mb. Anyone know how big r is? I would install but I'm not on WiFi.

The r that I got was 200 or so meg. I would say that is it. It's strange I live in a small town and I got the update months ago.

I had the updating issue too.. and the LG tool was saying my firmware was up to date on m.
The way I fixed it was going to the LG tool , going to Options then Upgrade Recovery, now I have D85110R yay!

I updated (and rooted) through TWRP.
Don't update to R if you want to disable 2G.

Disable 2G? How does that work exactly?? It blocks the downgrade to 2g and uses 4g only even if you run out of data?

I just got the update just now at 5am after waiting over a month too. It was definitely a very slow roll out. Even a week after it was released it still would not update even using the LG software tool. Anyways I am excited for it since I was having some very brief data connections. Also excited for in flight texting too!

phone information, which can access network mode to LTE/WCDMA, is disabled.
GPRS = 2G
WCDMA/HSPA = 3G/4G
LTE = 4GLTE

I just tryed that code got this

Why would you want to disable 2G. Disabling it would cause you to not have any service if you were in an area without 3G/4G or 4GLTE.

HSPA/LTE is everywhere I am, but the phone simply jump to stupid 2G and the data doesn't work at all.

I can understand that but if you were out in the country somewhere that only had 2G and you had disabled it on your phone then you would have no service

10R doesn't seem to change anything to me, but its best to be on latest software!

[Q] Thinking about exchanging my CDMA GN due to LTE signal drop

I've been using the Galaxy Nexus for about a month or so and have recently started to notice that the 4G signal will drop whenever I turn on the screen after some time in deep sleep. The signal meter will be fine, until I actually try to use some data. It typically takes about a minute to reacquire a signal, but the phone is essentially useless during that time.
As you can see in the screenshot, there are several red spots where the signal dropped out. I am not in a poor coverage area, and others with the same device do not have these issues. I saw this with a rooted 4.0.2 OTA and am still seeing it with a rooted, deodexed 4.0.4 rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481613).
What do people think? Will exchanging the phone possible fix the issue? Is there anything Verizon can do to try and help me out? I'm basically just spitballing here, but this problem is making my phone very frustrating to use.
Are you rooted or stock? I don't have any issues with my 4G on stock or rooted with Gummy 0.7.6. I had an issue with an earlier root where my 4G would drop. I would disable / re-enable and it would start to work again. Maybe try rooting if you are not rooted????

Yes, I see this on rooted stock, as well as the ROM I referenced in the original post (supposedly deodexed 4.0.4 stock ROM)
EDIT: From several posts in the other thread, this issue is not isolated to me or my hardware so I probably won't bother exchanging the phone.
History of Signal ?

Can you please tell me where you get that HISTORY screen from. Ive checked all menus in settings and I can not find it anywhere.
EDIT... Please ignore my post... I found it...
So, I'm having the same exact problems but i did a log cat to see what might be culprit.
I have narrowed it down to this:
02-08 11:21:51.912 E/IMSFW (415): IIL: Disconnected from '7467' socket
still have no idea what can cause it yet.
also if you switch to 3g it seems it doesn't happen so maybe its a sim problem on verizons lte network end?
11:22:40.029 E/IMSFW (415): ImsSMSInterface: Registration failed, go for retrying if isim nounce present
that's what i found so if anyone can clarify and maybe see if it is really on Verizons end as this is the 4th phone that has had this problem.

Hey fellas, I'm posting in this thread because it relates to the issue I'm facing. Coming from the Thunderbolt, I had no problems holding onto a LTE signal in Atlanta, but with my GNex, the signal just drops a lot (every half hour or so maybe), at work, at the store, wherever. It shows an empty signal bar with a small x, and says 'Searching for Service'.
This seems to happen only when I have it in LTE mode. I switched to CDMA under the 'Mobile Networks' settings window, and it was able to hold on to the 3G signal all day. I am starting to think if it is a LTE sim card authentication issue.
I'm going to VZW to see what I can do (I'm still within the 14-day window).
I'm having the Same issue holding onto a 4g signal in Savannah and Atlanta, cdma only is fine. Let me know what Verizon tells u cause they basically told me to wait for an update

Just came back, basically they said they can't do anything unless they replicate the problem, which they couldn't. (it was a random problem.). They told me to call customer service when I got that issue, so I have to see that at work tomorrow.
I tried a suggestion online where I updated my prl from the 15xxx version to the 52642 version. I did this by creating a contact with the following number
*22899
and dialing that contact. It went through a 'activation' process, with some elevator music, and the signal seems to hold.

I'm tempted to file a claim with asurion(purchased gnex from a friend) and see if another gnex works with late but I don't wanna spend $99 for nothing

To this and post 10, I still have those data issues, but they are much less frequent on the 4.0.2 radio than the 4.0.4.
I got in touch with Verizon wireless online support, and they basically told me to wait till they release a software update. I asked for a new sim card (since I thought it might be LTE authentication issues), and they said it was a software problem, not a SIM problem.
I guess its a wait and see.

[Q] WIFI calling, could anyone port it from the G Flex or G3?

Looks like G flex just got wifi calling through an update, and all of Sprints triband LTE devices are supposed to be compatible. Anyone heard about attempts to port this over to the G2?

Sorry to revive this thread, but is anyone working on this by any chance? It's been about a year or more since Sprint announced Wi-Fi calling and there is still nothing for the G2...
I think this would complete my wish list for my G2, still haven't found a ROM with this feature yet.

Questions about 5.0 on LG G3.

I recently bought a used LG G3, it should be arriving later today. I had a few questions regarding 5.0 Lollipop.
Looking through the threads here, it seems to be that some folks still haven't gotten the OTA in the US. Is this still the case, or is it widely released now?
Also, are there any issues with the 5.0 update on the T-mobile G3? Any reason to stick with KK over it?
Thanks!
The original release gave some of us issues with wifi calling being stuck on enabling and blue tooth being wonky so they halted the roll out but now they have approved an updated version and is starting to roll out or should start rolling out any time. The only issue my wife and I have with the original release was the wifi calling not enabling, we have no other problems. I have the white one and she has the black one so the issue affected both.
Not all Xposed modules work for lollipop just yet but lollipop seems pretty stable to me. Wifi calling is sketchy but I have perfect signal so it doesn't bother me. Battery life is better on lollipop for sure. Backup kitkat and try Lollipop and if you don't like it you can always go back
Thanks for the quick replies!
The phone arrived yesterday and I've been busy setting it up. I checked, and it came with 5.0.1 installed. Is there a way to know if that's the original release, or the second, fixed version of Lollipop?
Thanks again!

The first version of lollipop was 20B, while the newest version is 20E. Go into settings, general, about phone, and then click on software info and look at the software version and it will tell you if it's 20B or 20E. It's most likely 20B since the 20E just started rolling out yesterday afternoon.
Ah, okay. Thanks!
Okay, time for some more dumb questions (sorry!) First, I'll start by saying I'm apparently still on the 20B version, and checking for updates says I'm still up to date. So if this would cause my network issues, I guess I"ll just wait it out...
I got my account activated last night and all seemed well. But now I'm in a location without wifi and I see I have no data connection. When I rebooted, it came up and said I was connected to AT&T, not T-mobile. Since I'm on the $30 plan with TM, I thought I wasn't allowed roaming, or perhaps it's no roaming for data? Anyway, it was a bit odd to see AT&T to come up...
So, I'm trying to make it only connect to Tmobile. If I go into "Tethering and Networks" and "Mobile networks" in the settings, I can change the "Network operators". After doing a search I see the following:
T-Mobile
RAT: LTE
T-Mobile
RAT:WCDMA
Followed by 3 AT&T options, the same as the TM ones and a GSM option.
Should I select one of the T-Mobile ones, or set it to auto?
I checked the T-mobile coverage map site and it shows my area has having 4G coverage, so I would think I'd get a better signal than I am. Although it's hard to tell if it's 4G or LTE, as the two shades of pink are so close together.
Are there other network related settings I should be checking or changing to get it to work better?
edit:
Okay, so I'm doing some semi-answering of my own questions here..
It looks like from what I'm reading that on the $30 prepaid plan, voice roaming is certainly allowed, but not data. So connecting to AT&T isn't a problem, I just can't use data on it.
And the reason I'm getting such poor reception on T-mobile is that their signal doesn't penetrate buildings very well, by nature of the band they use. I sort of wish I had learned this before switching from Virgin Mobile, but I'm still loving my new phone so much, I'm not too upset.
I was also able to use the LG update software on my computer to get to the 20E version, and the reception is still terrible, so that wasn't the problem.
Guess I'll just to do some connection tests outside of a building to see if I actually get a 4G connection, as per their coverage map, or if I'll have to call them up and find out whats going on.

Unable to connect LG G3 T-Mobile phone to networks in Europe

I recently brought my LG G3 with me to Europe (while on Honeymoon) because I found out from T-Mobile that I could use text and data there at no extra cost. My phone works fine in the United States. But it doesn't find a carrier connection in London; Southampton; Vigo, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Cadiz, Spain; Gibraltar; and Barcelona.
I tried my phone in each location and it never connected to anything that wasn't WiFi. That really really sucked. I get that I have it rooted and I am using a different Lollipop ROM than stock. But I didn't think that would prevent it from connecting to towers there.
So what happened? What would be on a fully stock T-Mobile LG G3 that I wouldn't get on my rooted and ROMed version? I'm sure it something simple, but I would really like to know so that I can fix the problem before I go back.
did you turn on roaming?
mine worked great in Paris.
also, if you have really older version of rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/help/international-roaming-g3-t2834451
you may need to do this
Worked for me in Paris and Lisbon. I've had some issues when wifi calling is enabled, though. I think there are some very real modem issues but I eventually got it to work.

After October Update - No LTE

Hey guys, just did the October update this morning and now I can't get LTE. Icon just shows 4G. I've tried several restarts and cycling airplane mode and mobile data to no avail. Anyone else experiencing this?

There is. My Gf received the OTA yesterday.. I did as well. We are with T-Mobile. However, my bootloader is unlocked and I'm rooted so I ignored it. The security update will be next week, so I figured I'll wait to apply any updates.
4G and LTE are the same thing. Do a speedtest to check if you find the same speeds, but it's very likely just some regional assets not correctly fetched by the OS. The only reason why some builds show LTE in some countries is because of some very bad advertising from some providers (in the US for example some of them did that) where they called "4G" what should have been known as 3G+ (even though it was the same base protocol as 3G).
I'm seeing the same issue. Ran speed test and it's only hitting 10-12 Mbps. I'm also on AT&T. This happened after I updated today.
Flashed over with .020 and still having issues. No luck on the LTE.
I downgraded to .019 and was able to get LTE back. It automatically updated to .020 and I lost LTE again.
I had to downgrade back to .019 to get LTE back again. I turned off automatic updates in developer mode for now until the issue is gone.
xomikronx said:
Okay I figured out the issue. Hopefully this helps everyone here.
There are two updates from September, .019 & .020.
.019 is for all other Pixels.
.020 is for Verizon Pixels.
When the update for .020 was automatically applied to our phones, this is what broke LTE.
I didn't try updating from .3C to .019 to see if this would fix it. Maybe someone can try and report back.
What I did was just clean flash the .019 on my phone. Once Pixel applied the additional small update for Oct. I still have LTE.
Basically, we all on AT&T flashed the wrong firmware.
Good luck!

I have a Pixel 3 on AT&T. After the last hot fix I noticed that my LTE notification changed to 4G. I prefer the LTE icon as it is more informative that "4G" which has little meaning anymore. I ran a network signal info app and I am on actual AT&T LTE and my speedtest is 118 Mbps up, 6.7 down with 19ms ping. So am pretty confident that I am actually on LTE just that the icon changed. Based on your post I looked at my build number and it lists QP1A.190711.020.C3. So I guess I have the .020 that you reference.
Are you sure you did not have LTE and it was not just an icon issue? I don't really feel like flashing different firmware so might just live with the 4G thing unless the "wrong firmware" will cause some actual performance issues...

Same here. I have good speeds, just trying to figure out why the icon changed after the flash. Since the firmware was pushed to my phone does that mean Google is pushing the wrong firmware? I know this is not a regional issue because I flew around the whole US over the last two days with no change. I also reset my network settings with no change.
4G = LTE on AT&T.
If you are ever in doubt, do: *#*#4636#*#* from the dialer and select phone information.

I agree but I have always been on AT&T and through every Nexus and Pixel my notification bar always read LTE not 4G. My wife's P3 is on Google Fi with the latest update and it still reads LTE. I will check what hot fix build she got tonight. So why would my phone (and others here) read/indicate 4G now?
As I said, probably just an asset being fetched inconsistently. I know for a fact in other parts of the world it never says LTE but just 4G (because less bad communication around it here), so the system pulling one or the other is just up to how it associates the connected network to a region that says LTE or one that says 4G. My best guess would be that AT&T was misplaced in the last update for some reason that I can't imagine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I lost my LTE this morning.
Had to "disable" the Google eSIM.
Then re-enabled it and LTE came back.
Lost it again after a reboot.
Repeated the above steps and it's been solid since.

I had full bars with 4G on .020.3C and was only getting 10-15Mbps. It wasn't just an icon change then. It could also be the spot that I was in.

Thats for AT&T and/or Google to answer.
The bottom line is, regardless of what the indicator shows, use the dialer code and you will find out exactly what data network type you are on.
I have a Pixel 3XL and had the same issue. I did a factory reset yesterday and my LTE was good again
