[Q]A problem with HTC TW RUU - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, guys. I bought my htc deisre 816 in taiwan and I don't like sd card write restrictions, so i unlock my bootloader and flash costum rom to fix it.
Now, I have a big isuess with my touch screen, finally I try to reback to stock rom,but It didn't work on my phone.
The ruu download net :http://pan.baidu.com/share/init?shareid=2244013006&uk=288682052 password gbe4
It from a Chinese forum call GFan. The net : http://bbs.gfan.com/android-7658364-1-1.html
I got isuess for the ruu video : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4yi7qYtkploc2k4aWNBSjJDU2s&authuser=0
So, can any one help me to fix it ?? Thanks :laugh:

Did you re-lock the bootloader before trying to flash the RUU?
Also "it didn't work can someone fix it" doesn't really give us any information. What exactly isn't working.

I am in Taiwan too,I flash cm12 android 5.0 . it is very good ROM .Do not back to stock ROM.that is my suggest.

To fix your touchscreen issues you need to go back to stock and update your device while on stock to get your bootloader to 3.19 as 3.18 is known to give touch issues especially with ROMs. If no updates are available then you must wait for the update to be pushed to your device model.
Also, you can't just use an RUU while your on a custom ROM. You have to restore a nandroid backup of your stock device with root, unroot, reboot to bootloader, flash stock recovery, and then relock bootloader. Start up your phone and at this point now you can use the RUU.
The only time you can do an RUU restore from a custom ROM, especially CM; is on devices that have S-Off as they completely wipe and reflash entire parts of the system.
Finally, the zip that miniwhooper posted has SD write permissions enabled along with init.d support and busybox.
This zip can be used during the root process instead of using the SuperSU zip by chainfire.

choosing the correct RUU for my device

Good morning Developers and community
As i'm completely new to HTC devices, flashing, rooting, and so on ... i've got a short question for you all
Actually i'm on an Austrian (A1) branded and simlocked HTC Desire HD with a Vodafone_fr branding (yes the provider uses that *** branding)
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense: 2.1
Baseband: 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
Kernel: 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb
Build: 2.50.163.3 CL123205 release-keys
Software: 2.50.163.3
As i want to get rid of al these annoying pre-installed trial apps and as i want to recieve OTA updates in time and not when the provider is ready to send them (if they do ...) i decided to root the device by using the
new aahk tool to try to get 2.3.4 or higher for my DHD somehow
This aahk worked perfect for my device, no problems at all and i could get rid of all these apps, freeing some memory in my device
As this tool roots, Radio s-off, sets super cid, removes the simlock on this phone
i'm currently not able to get ota updates from anywhere (if i got that right from all the threads i read)
Now i was thinking about flashing the device with a htc rom and found this one on shipped-roms:
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.50.405.2_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_199042_signed.exe
The questions i have to you all are:
- is this the correct RUU for my device
- if i flash the device with an RUU, i'm i able to get OTA updates or do i have to set it to Radio S-ON manually again.
- if so - how ?
- is the simlock still removed with an RUU flash ?
i don't care if i have root access or not as i only want to have a clean installation without any provider c**p on my device
Thank you all in advance for your answers

- yes 2.50.405.2 is the latest official RUU
- You don't need to be S-ON to get OTA
- This RUU doesn't contain anything for Simlock (as it is operator specific)
Have you flashed a custom recovery like 4EXT or CMW? If not then flashing it will help you to flash between different custom ROMs..

Wow thank you so much for your quick reply!
Hm good question. I just used the aahk tool to get rid of the sim lock and to get root access.
I did not install any rom so far.
The tool also set a SuperCID. Don't know if i matters or not.
According to the tool, the clockworkmod is installed and i can see it in the bootloader and i already did a backup of my rom to the SD card.
(go to recovery -> ClockworkMod v5.0.2.0)
But will the CWM still remain after the RUU flash !?
Thought, that it will be overwritten and the phone un-rooted
thx again !
Good news, if u already have clockwork recovery installed than no need to flash the ruu as it will overwrite recovery. You can either try my GB Sense 3.0 or i can give u an optimized / rooted 2.50.x build if u want

Trying to summarize:
- OTA does not work with both of them if i got it right
- if I flash with 2.50.x RUU build from HTC i can re-root this build again using the aahk tool (should work with 2.50) and i have an unbranded rootet DHD without any provider apps again.
- if I take your optimized build i don't need to re-root it (what's the "optimized" part in your build? )
- if I take GB Sense 3.0 then I have a "brand new" rooted? DHD and I can go back to the rom i currently have.
any recommendations?
If u flash 2.50 via ruu it'll remove custom recovery & rooting. U'll still get OTA with it.
If u flash a pre-rooted / optimized 2.50 build, ur custom recovery will remain & u'll get OTA..
If u flash GB Sense 3.0 since it is a leaked version so i don't think any chances of OTA, however u can flash any rom u want..

[Q] How to unroot htc one v

Hellloo xda...is there anyone who can gimme a proper step to step guide for unrooting my htc one v.
1. Download the HTC Asia India RUU from Football's collection in the development section
2. While that's downloading, relock your bootloader using the command
Code:
fastboot oem lock
3. Open the RUU. Find the temp folder it created and open ROM.zip from inside it with 7Zip. Extract the recover.img and flash it
Code:
fasboot flash recovery recovery.img
4. Run the RUU and your phone's status will be *** RELOCKED *** and unrooted.
So why do you want to unroot?
Whenever I install custom Rom my sd card and WiFi doesn't work...soo I installed custom Rom without having a nandroid.backup.that's y I was asking.neways thanks a lot for replying.this. is my second one v(replacement)
sent from my sexoo one v
My build number is1.56.720.2 and the ruu is 1.58.707.3.what should i do now??
how do i find the temp folder??..
What is the use of other images???in rom folder..does this stock ruu flashing fixes error?
So what exactly are you trying to do now? Before you said unroot the phone, then you said install custom ROM in a later post.
could you also please find a way to help me? my htc one v freeze forever after i turn it on, please help me
Assuming you're on stock rom, have you try factory reset in bootloader ?
Do you know your software version or cid no. ?
He sent a pm telling me that his phone is rooted and he flashed a zip file that supposedly increases the SD card speed, and apparently causes soft bricks too
I think the only thing to do is re-flash the RUU because I don't think he did a backup in CWM Recovery.
Roxas84, please confirm.
I see.. if he can send the file, sometimes do a revert.zip will help. The easiest is reflash the same rom.zip with wipe cache & system. It should correct the error.
Hey dudes,
I was going to start the same thread but since this is open I want to ask you one question:
If I root the phone, flash cwm, and then I want to return to stock (for warranty purposes) how can I 'uninstall' cwm? Because for unroot I know how to do it, but uninstall custom recovery I never done that even on my older phone - Htc hero.
I'm not new to recoveries, custom roms, flashing and all this kind of stuff, but this is a problem that I don't know how to handle it since I didn't needed to uninstall the custom recovery in the past.
TIA!
L.E: To Answer my own question:
D) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted
- download OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store
- run the OTA Rootkeeper and click protect root
- no need to relock bootloader
- boot to bootloader and fastboot flash the stock recovery
- run the OTA update
- Once done, run OTA Rootkeeper and click restore root
Thanks @ckpv5 for these awesome guides
I just summarized this thread in the following tut but with much more detail:
[TUT] Re-flash stock ROM (RUU) after bricking a rooted device (for noobs)
Roxas84, follow this tut if ckpv5's suggestion above doesn't work.
1ceb0x, it will also show how to revert to stock recovery.

HBOOT-1.18.0000
Radio-3831.18.00.282
eMMc-boot
Which ruu should I use?
Thx!

Rooting and De-branding One V

Hey guys,
Just few questions. I have O2 locked and branded device.
I have successfully unlocked boot loader on my One V, also successfully rooted (i believe). CWM installed and old rom backed up.
Now I need to know how to flash stock rom Europe? I tried RUU Europe after root, but RUU was throwing errors and nothing happens. I tried rotted stock rom, all went fine except phone has no signal. I heard that to flash RUU I need to change CID, i tried and it won't change.
Could you please advice best route?
Also what is best stable fast custom rom for One V
Thanks
Hi
Is there already a way to de-brand a One V?
Since even with a unlocked bootloader there is still S-On
Regards
max
to again return to stock rom after rooting u need to relock your bootloader
fastboot oem lock
then get into bootloder mode and run the ruu
WARNING YOU WILL LOCK YOUR Bootloader and LOSE ROOT

With S-On it is quite impossible to change CID to debrand (AFAIK) but the phone is new, so development just started.
Thanks for reply
How about custom roms? Which one is most stable and fast for One V? Also with unlocked bootloader and CWM recovery, is it just download rom, move to memory card and apply update from zip file in CWM recovery?
until today the rc 2.0 is the best available rom for our device

I think for now that the stock is all right for me at least... Practicaly the update is just as you said. Unlock BL, get working recovery, get SU pack zip to SD enter recovery and flash.

HTC desire HD bootloop

I was helping out a friend to flash a custom rom , to update his device to a newer version , as a former LG optimus 3d owner i figured nothing can be more problematic , so we went on to unlock the device with easyunlocker tool , then flashed the latest twrp recovery from fastboot. We first tried Legacycarbon , it was stuck in a bootloop with htc logo without the quietly brilliant bit. Then we tried pac-man 4.2.2 bootloop again , lastly we tried cyanogenmod 10.1 again bootloop... First i thought maybe it's the recovery , i flashed the latest clockwork non-touch and flashed all these roms , still bootloop... My friend accidentally wiped the backup we made of the stock rom. Now the device is soft bricked. I've heard people talk about 4ext recovery , so i thought maybe i should give it a try but as it turns out , the only way to install it is with the play store app. As the device is soft bricked i need a fastboot image.
So my question is , what could be the problem ?
If you think the the problem is with the recovery can you export your recovery partition so i can use it through fastboot?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can flash the. .img file from fastboot, but recovery is not the problem. Try wiping all partitions (/data /cache and /system), and flashing a rom

Yeah , i left that out. As a nexus owner i have a habit of wiping my system , data , cache and dalvik-cache partitions. I've managed to get a recovery backup from another friend who owns the same device , and flashed it to the phone , now it's working.
Although i'm very curious as to why it gets stuck in a bootloop...
I think it may be because of the partition size difference , then the ROMs that i downloaded didn't contain partition images , still it was through teamviewer , i couldn't really extract his partition table to take a look at it , i'll do that when i get my hands on the device.
Hi! It seems to be the same problem I met since friday. My HTC DESIRE HD doesn't want to start, it goes on a bootloop at the logo cyanogenmod.. I had the CM 10.1, so I have now tested to make a new installation by replacing it with a newer version of CM 10.1 but it's always the same problem.. bootloop again and again.
Moreover I have flashed the boot.img which was in the folder off CM 10.1 but no result.. I've tried to do it with MIUANDROID rom and it seems to be the same bootlooping again..
Please can someone help me?
Thanks

Try flashing a RUU. If that is not working and you are still on a bootloop then it might be a motherboard issue.

He should be able to unlock with HTCDev and root, or use the AAHK2 to s-off and root. I'm not sure if OP had already unlocked the bootloader, but there's a chance that the ruu won't update it (newer/same version as included in the ruu) meaning he'd keep his BL unlock
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
from what i've read here on the forum, and if my understanding is correct, ruu are like "original" roms. files that we don't flash from recovry.
it's a différent method and in the end we obtain a stock phone with an "untouched" os like an original one.
if it is the case then you should install a ruu with android 2.3.5 on it, as if you update up to a ruu with android 2.3.7, again from what i've read, it won't be possible to root back the phone then.
i might be wrong but just thought i'll point it out to you so you can research on that.
it's possible that by now there is a way, but i havn't read or heard about it.

Well you are definitely wrong. All versions are rootable. Ruu stands for remote update utility and it is the stock firmware of the device.
You cannot flash a ruu in recovery but have to do it in fastboot. From there you can unlock the bootloader and root.

I think I might've completely screwed up what I was trying to say or you may have misunderstood what I was saying. So I'm just going to refer back to what I was trying to explain in context of an older HTC device (Wildfire, in this case).
In some scenarios with the Wildfire, we were able to run an RUU and successfully roll back to a stock rom whilst retaining a S-OFF bootloader (Meaning the ability to use fastboot to flash a recovery and root using a su zip was possible). I think I was trying to say this may be possible/may occur with the DHD. Meaning that OP would just have to use fastboot to flash a recovery and an appropriate superuser zip to get root, and therefore any version would be rootable (even if he rolled back). However at this point I'm not sure if the DHD RUU's overwrite the hboot/bootloader. (I've never really felt like flashing one and I don't feel like getting another sim unlock code at this point)

No problem man, but Hboot and S-OFF are not the same. All RUU's have partitions in them including bootloader, however nand partition is not reverted to S-ON by flashing an stock rom, unless you specifically do that. There is no risk to lose the S-OFF state by flashing a RUU.

I didn't see mention of s-off in your question. If you are not s-off, you have to extract the rom's boot.IMG and fastboot flash it after rom installation.
