Graphical view of current reading position - Nook Touch Android Development

Hello,
The title is a bit strange maybe. In fact, i was wondering if we have enough access to the nook files to change the behavior of the little triangle above the page counter. I think it should be nice to have it showing visually where we are in the book. Beginning, 1/4, 1/3, half...ect Maybe the only thing i miss when i read on my nook.
With the page counter we have the pourcentage of progressing, so using that figure we should be able to move the triangle left and right. Do you think it is something technically doable ?
Nicolas

Hey,
Yes, all of the things you mentioned are completely doable from a technical perspective. All this would mainly be XML coding inside of /system/app/ReaderRMSDK.apk, which is not my field of expertise, but is very doable. You'll just need to find somebody to do the coding and resign & recompile the .apk, and you're good to go.

Nookie

Interest is certainly another matter.
For one, there are not very many people around the NST forums here anymore, sadly. I certainly would be interested, and I'm sure at least 5-10 other users would be interested, but it probably won't get the attention it deserves like it would have if it had been made in 2012 or 2013.

I see. I'm late again. Too bad, it would be a great & subtle feature.
In fact, i'm not too afraid of the XML coding, but i don't know about the apk recompilation.

It's not really XML, it's really reverse engineering coding of the B&N app.

Excalibur in 96 DPI

IMO it looks really really nice but of course all the system icons aren't adapted to the new resolution...if any of you know how to edit DLLs and can make an icon set that is adapted to the new resolution it'd be greatly appreciated
to achieve the resolution all you have to do is set the registry values [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\ Display\GPE\LogicalPixelsY] and [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\ Display\GPE\LogicalPixelsX] from 131 to 96 in decimal

Call me crazy but I can't see much of a difference in graphics aside from the extra real estate, which is evident through the additional menu items listed per screen. Has your device been less stable or slower since making the switch? Also, I heard that you need specific .dlls to make the top icons fit properly, is this true and if so where did you get them?
the device is completely stable....and the top icons never worked except the pngs from the rinku topbar. and those are cut off a bit because of the new settings. i know u need specific dll edits and im hoping one of the big dogs could cook a few up for me. ALL the system icons are jagged under 96dpi...and the call screen is also out of wack. i like it cause it looks nicer and makes file browsing easier...so yea. imma keep up hope.
bump x 2.4
so no help with this 96dpi issue? sheesh. the vox people already have a fully functional 96dpi rom....
so I'm never gonna have anyone take this request into consideration huh?

If I had any skills as programmer I´d be working on it, but since I have none, all I can do is join you in your requests/prayers... lol
Seriously, can any skilled willing programmer/developer give the guy a help? I guess many will enjoy it.
Cheers.
@ AbsoluteDesignz
I´ve got a little question on the dpi matter...
Do you know if is there any intermediate (between 131 and 96) dpi that can be set without messing the phone up?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers.
ive tried 108, 120, and even went as low as 72...every setting aside from the 131 has the same issues. White System Notification Icons, Jagged system Icons and STK icons out of wack (in 96 DPI the only icons that work are the default ones and in other settings the proportions are off)
I'm with you guys! Let's make this happen!

WM 6.5 app to show where the screen is tapped?

I myself am not a programmer, but I do have a good idea for anyone that has some free time.
If someone could make an app that when the touch screen is tapped/pressed it makes a ripple or dot or some sort of signal of where the screen is tapped.
I've seen this in Microsoft PowerPoint slide shows...
Whenever i attempt to press a button and i am not hitting it i would like to know where i am actually pressing so i can adjust.
If this already exists please point me in the right direction.
Thanks

I wanna know where im tapping the screen, ive now also seen screen shots where people have an arrow cursor, that would also be pretty handy if anyone knows how to get that
so basically like Windows Vista's water ripple on Tablet PC
yes exactly
i'm kinda suprised it's not out there already. the palm pre has it and it's a nice feature. kinda reassuring. lets hope someone can pull it together...
yea i would see it as a staple in touch screen devices, but maybe it takes too much memory or it gets in the way? im not sure but i know i would definitely use it
I am all for this as well, it would be really nice to have.
That would be nice.

So if when u click on the screen it takes a screenshot and then does a ripple on that image...
I know Twolf has done ripples in flash, so if flash were an acceptable solution, that would be a method. Have to take more screenshots and load em in to keep it updated..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540643
- You can now add your own background picture, just place bg.jpg in this folder:
> For WM6 (not sure about WM5) the folder is /Application Data/Volatile/FlashRipple4
> For WM2003 the folder is /temp/FlashRipple4
If for some reason this is not the folder, run it once and search for a folder called FlashRipple4 with your Explorer application.
As always, sourcecode and EXE included in the zip, I also included a background image for testing.

So i don't know how this app exits, but if it could output the coordinates to the registry or a return argument i could at least click on the today screen with them in Mortscript.
I assume BBonz is already half done with the app anyways...
I've been trying to figure out if this is possible from a coding perspective... It seems that (at least with the .net compact framework) that there's no way to hook screen taps. A program like this would actually have to be a driver for the touch panel. The most similar thing anyone has done is TouchResponse. Unfortunately, the author hasn't been online since November...so I can't ask for details on how it was done.
If anyone can help figure out how to create a program, service or driver that can globally hook screen taps and return coordinates...I can probably write this.
Hi xawen,
"If anyone can help figure out how to create a program, service or driver that can globally hook screen taps and return coordinates...I can probably write this."
You can hook all touch events via the PenTrac.dll approach. Have a look at Scilors Multitouch DLL thread. There I explained the approach and posted the sourcecode...
hm, but this is only an approach for the HD2's touch.dll. Not for all Win 6.5 smartphones...
HD2 is good enough for me
no but seriously, tried doing some (very little) research but came up with nothing

[request]XDA-DEV Thread Button Link

Hi xda-dev,
I just thought if we could have us thread owners to have a standard button design for a specific thread that we can use/link in our blog post or websites?
Just a thought ..
And, while on the subject: Is an RSS feed going to be made avail in new version ?

I think that's a great idea. But could you clarify: Are you speaking of the same basic concept on news sites where various social-media icons are avail to auto-repost? (twitter, digg, etc)... Or do you mean a button that performs the action of copying the thread's link & title to the clipboard, then being able to paste it anywhere on your own site, manually, into a blog post etc?

SLIGHTLY OFF-TOPIC:
I'm WAY behind the curve in using twitter, and how it integrates with what seems like 1000 different twitter-based apps... And twitpics, i'm even less clear on how and WHEN to use it, and if it's used WITH twitter, or a parallel service to twitter for just sharing photos in real time.
ON-TOPIC
So I'm not clear if your posting that image on twitpic is literally an example what you want to be able to do, or are you saying there are apps for either phone or desktop computer that will generate a template graphic as well a specific thread title linked? So, in your picture, is the thread title generated as part of the graphic itself? Or is the thread title displayed in HTML on top of the template graphic?
I am really confused but I like the way it looks! please explain further...
Okay, so now I see this, in your prior sig file.. and I see that it is a graphic that gets generated with the title of the thread rendered as part of the image... so i just have never seen these used -- but I love the idea...
So for this example here:
tell me how that gets generated -- at http://www.twitstamp.com ? and then when you apply that generated graphic, how do you also code the link to the thread, in this example?
even more confused and feeling so behind the times !
well whaddayaknow -- this looks like a pretty cool web app ! ---
so are you speaking of ...
(1) You're here at XDA-devs, and you're on, for example, this very thread...
(2) You'd like to see a simple small graphical button, as part of "thread tools" or somewhere within the thread page layout, that when you click on it, it grabs the Title of the thread, and the link, copies it to pasteboard...
(3) then you go to a site like, for example, TwitStamp.com, and insert what's on the pasteboard into the "input box" at Twitstamp...
(4)... thereby generating a graphic with link that can be embedded anywhere on a webpage etc, exactly as you would grab embed code from a YouTube video, or from a photo at photobucket.com, stuff like that?
(5) Is this kind of small-file-size "picture status" thing being rapidly used as a way to post updates, but using twitpics? So that after you generate the graphic, you post it to twitpics? And those who subscribe to your feeds can see "oh cool, that sounds like an interesting thread, i want that for my phone"... and so they would click on it and link to the thread here at XDA?
even more confused by all the permutations of pasting what where... hah hah.
Is this what you mean exactly, or is it close, or is this just one of many examples of what you are envisioning?
sounds & looks interesting....

[GAME] Teeter

Everyone loves Teeter right? I'm sure there'll be lots of shoddy ports for WP7 on launch, so I decided to do it right and first

Make everything a blue block? I joke, of course Very nice work, looking forward to see how this comes along, as this is by far my favorite Windows Mobile game.
Nice job, OP! I wouldn't be surprised if HTC have already made a port, but this is still very cool.
My only comment is the 3D view looks a bit strange. There is no real depth, just the 2D Window rotating in 3D space. Look on youtube for "labyrinth 3D".
Keep up the great work!

I forgot to mention, that view is just for the emulator, as I cant really pick up my monitor and tilt it around
As soon as I get a real device to test on, I'll move everything over to the real G-Sensor, and lose the pseudo 3d kinda thing
ALLTHOUGH
I could easily make the 3D view better and have this as an alternate to using the G-Sensor, perhaps as an option from the menu? All input is helpful at this stage
Also, anyone who wants to follow my dev work, my twitter is @lordadamwalker.
Not much stuff about this project yet, but I only started yesterday morning, so It'll be there. Best way to keep updated
I would like a natural Port of the Game most.
Please add a Missionselector after one managed the final level.
If you make a Metro SKin please make it alternative, some people dont like it all the time.
Also I think Stability and low latenzity is more importent the difficult View, you should set your priorities according to that.
looking fwd to see how this game turns out...

A direct port is where I'm starting certainly, any extra features I can add when I finish the engine completely.
There will be a level selector for completed levels.
And there will definitely be a choice of skin to suit all tastes
Performance and reliability are my key focus, so rest assured the engine will be well tested and tuned
Not one to double post, but I now have access to a Windows Phone 7 device, so I should be able to make some real progress. Updates coming very soon
well?
Where is the port?
You might have better luck finding the OP on twitter. He hasn't logged into XDA since May last year.

Pretty sure we could just write an app that has the ringtones profile and then copy the file to the \windows\ringtones (I think that's the path) directory. I don't think you even need to muck with the registry or anything.

? , In this thread all links are working .
but to OP , are there any updates we would like to know ?
We need to wait i guess!
Edit: Sorry, just found it 2 posts above this one..
I think there are no updates because... the supposed breakthroughs are not as big of a deal as advertised.
All they've *really* managed to do is to use a Samsung native DLL to invoke a FileBrowser app Samsung left on the device (that same exe does not appear to exist on HTC or LG devices). Yes, native code can be built and run but native code is not inherently valuable like everyone thinks. It can't actually do anything useful unless and until the WP7 security model has been broken or a hole found.
So there's no access to create or overwrite arbitrary files, set registry values, etc.
I'm waiting to be proven wrong.
You're correct tai4de2, mostly.
However, I never understood why people felt the need to proclaim to the world when they do things like this, especially when an update is on the way and the vulnurability/method used to do it can be patched easily.
