I think no1 read Q&A thread. Pls someone post this bug root+cwm thread cos this forum is lame and i cant post it. " only if u have 10 or more posts, plaaplaaplaa, jaadijaadijaa"
If your CWM Recovery is 6.0.0.0 and higher then the small backup size is perfectly normal... There is another folder called blobs which actually stores the most of your backup data
The way the new CWM works is it makes a shared folder ( blobs ) that all recovery instances use... for example ( easiest example ) if you make a recovery of a fresh new device, then install a few apps , then make a recovery again , the blobs folder will hold the data that is used in both of those recovery images, and the their respective folders will only hold data that is exclusive to that particular image...
kinda like this :

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
the 2 gray circles are 2 recovery images , and the white area they intersect within is what they both have in common ( the blobs folder )
that way if you make many recovery images, the wont be 800MB each, they will be 15-30MB with one folder that has the stuff they "have in common"... saves on space and time
im not good at explaining , but i hope you can understand it xD
Ooh, thanks

Tab S died, can I restore apps from TWRP backup to another device?

So my beloved Tab S finally died recently due to accidental damage. I have wept every night since. :'(
Jk but seriously, I miss it badly. I had the perfect setup on LineageOS and everything working nicely, then it fell off the arm of the sofa and smacked the screen hard. Cracked badly and the digitizer is also broken. I was able to complete a full backup in TWRP using the adb shell, so I'm pretty happy with that.
My new device is a Huawei Mediapad M3. It's the best tablet at the same kind of screen ratio I could find. Decent price too. I've not been able to unlock the bootloader or root it just yet, but I expect to have this done shortly.
My question for you guys is how can I extract my apps from the backed up data partition in my TWRP backup from my Tab S to my Mediapad?
I can easily access the data archive by renaming the file extension to .tar and opening in winrar, but when I copied a single app folder to my phone (just to test it) the app did not appear in the app drawer after restarting.
Has anyone here had experience extracting apps from TWRP backups successfully?
Basically you are looking for /Data/yourappname/ and /sdcard/Android/yourappname folders.
I would suggest first install yourappname.apk, then when it will make folder structure in mentioned above paths, copy your backup data for yourappname over and restart. That should do it.
PS: but for dealing with /Data partition you need root access in your new tab. Also , pay attention for attributes of the files copied over.
Yes, you can restore your apps with titanium backup and a twrp backup.

How to Make Backup of Partitions

As you may now TWRP system backups have problem on Android 9. When you restore you can't boot. With this you can get your system.img, boot.img, vendor.img etc. With TWRP only Data.
You need to be rooted and should have working ADB connection for this method.

As you can see in the picture there is our system file. You can see this from going /dev/block/by-name/. You will see the real location of the file which that is /dev/block/mncblk0p77. It means they are linked. I used Jrummy's Root Browser.
While phone is on in CMD:
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p77 of=/sdcard/system.img (mmcblk0p77 number may differ device to device. Check on your device).
This code will enter adb shell. Later with su you will enter admin rights. with dd you will copy,with if= you will chose main location with of= where to copy. Don't use the file in by-name folder. Use it like on my code". If you want make multiple img files you can do like this.
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p77 of=/sdcard/system.img && dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p74 of=/sdcard/boot.img
Then copy the .img files on your phone to your pc.
To backup data, Go to TWRP > Backup > Select only data > Swipe to backup.(If you wipe Internal Storage your backups will be gone. Make sure you copied TWRP folder and .img files to PC)
To install your images and your data, flash .img files then restore your Data from TWRP > Restore >(Backup name. Problably a date). Then wipe dalv, cache. Reboot.
With this you can continue from where you left.

I have tried reinstalling firmware twice the second time using a pit file / nand erase repartition,
What am I missing here ?
EFS partition is a special partition dedicated for your phone's info like radio signal info, IMEI, SN and lots of files revolving around your SIM card and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth ( this includes your MAC address for all the radios of your phone ). Imagine the EFS as a big folder containing all of the important stuff that makes the "phone" part of your phone.
EFS partition isn't part of any Stock ROM or Custom ROM.
