[Q] Upgrading from Samsung Galaxy S3 - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has served me well, but it now seems to struggle. Some apps seem to be processor limited, then they open the default web browser and when exiting the browser I find the app restarts which I assume is because of lack of memory.
Likewise, Google Maps can get very sluggish and use up lots of memory when driving a route of over an hours duration. Google could probably make it better, but unlikely if it works OK on more modern phones.
So I'm considering an upgrade to the LG G3, which would mean doubling the RAM from 1GB to 2GB and upping the processor from 1.5Ghz to 2.5Ghz.
Would this make things better? Or is the amount of RAM allocated to user apps similar and so I'll still have the same problems?
I keep seeing people talk about overheating issues and cracks, are these really a problem ?

I haven't had a Galaxy SIII. Otherwise I come from a iPhone 4s, and before this I had a Sony-Ericsson Arc S. Personally speaking, I had a lot of problems with the Xperia: continuous rebooting, RAM limits, not software updates, etc. So I felt let down by Android, and I decide to switch to another platform. I can tell that the iPhone worked just fine, but I never felt comfortable in such a closed OS. Reading about technology and gadgets I realized that in three years Android had improved enough and it had become a very mature platform, so I came back to android. I chose the LG G3, because of the good reviews and the better price/value ratio, and I cant tell you that this was a very good decision. To sum up, the LG G3 is a very good device in every single aspect. It's cute, light and has an incredibly screen. Even with its huge 5.5' qHD screen, it's easily one hand managed. I heard complaints about poor battery life, overheating issues and lags. In contrast I never had one single issue: no lags, no overheating, great battery life and an incredible performance.
Last but not least the G3 has matured enough in the community to have a great developer support. Right now you can install Stock based Lollipop ROMs that will make your experience with this phone even better.
I bought my phone in July 2014. If, right now, I'd have to buy a new phone, it'd be the LG G3, again.

I came from S3. Totally new life with G3. No regrets.

I upgraded from an S3 too, no regrets whatshowever, the camera is a bit slower but the quality is so much better. As well as that, the screen is awesome! I strongly advise you to do so

I also upgrade from S3 to G3 (so many 3's )... The difference is huge. Much faster, great screen and not so big (for me is ok).
The only thing that dissapoint me is that in S3 we have so many roms, kernels, tweaks, etc etc and in G3 there are few (but goods )
So, for me, the upgrade is a Must and i'm really happy with that...

If you could get your hands on the 3GB ram version I would highly advise that to make it more future proof (you seem like a guy who wanna keep his phone for a while).

Thanks all, couldn't find a 3GB version, but ebuyer seem to be the cheapest, so bought it from there. Now just need to get them to actually deliver it. They've said they shipped via Yodel, which are not known for good customer service. Last package someone sent via them they lost!
I'll probably have lots of questions once I've got it!

Anyone Have Poor WiFi Signal Issues on S3?

Just got an HTC OneX+. Love the device (of course coming from iPhone 4 it should seem better). Chose it over SII due to a bit better screen display and Sense over Touchwiz, but if I install custom ROM, then Sense vs Touchwiz is moot point right?
Anyway I discovered a major issue with WiFi Signal being low when you hold the phone in your palm. See this YouTube video if you want to learn more:
http://youtu.be/8IUkbnj5pY0
I'm wondering if any S3 owners can confirm (with Wifi Analyzer) if you see the same issue, and this happens with all phones. Or is there anyone here that came from an One X or One X+ and switched to S3 and why?
I really like 64MB storage (already using 30 but I have a gazillion high bitrate mp3's I could pair down some). 32GB should be adequate on S3. Which Nexus 4 had 32GB. Maybe I should wait, but not waiting as long as S4 in spring.
Just want to make sure S3 doesn't have same wifi issue. Hate dealing with the idiots in the store about the stuff, they're usually clueless.

I had my heart set on the HOX before the HOX+ came out. Really loved the screen because white was white and every other S3 or Amoled based screen I looked at had blue-ish whites. The store lighting made it worse. I finally caved in and bought the S3 because of certain features...and the most important being 2gb ram. That's another story. But I got lucky. My white's are pretty darn white.
Given the choice again...I would not even consider a new device without 2gb or more ram. The HOX+ is lovely... but 1gb is not enough for the way I use the phone. Multitasking between big games and/or up to 50 smaller apps is what the S3 is good at....at least on my i747m variant on stock 4.0.4.
My previous device...the almighty HTC HD2 had the grip of death where even a loose grip would decay my phone/data signal by 2-3 bars. I used to hold the HD2 upside down in areas of poor reception to avoid covering up my antenna. Wifi...I am not sure...it was always strong enough.
Now, like the video, I have an Asus N56u router....kick a$$...and my S3. In an area of great Wifi reception on 2.4gh band, there is minimal DB reduction with a normal grip. But if I grasp extra firmly with 2 hands (what am I saying!!!) covering the entire S3, I can monitor an 8-12db loss....which is not too bad ...but it's not a realistic grasping scenario anyway. The reduction is not consistent and fluctuates. I think this is normal.
I would say that on my i747m, wifi reception is not an issue. Also when using the 5.8gh band, and when I am close to the router, I can receive 48mbps on my 50mbps package.
If your implying 64mb HOX+ vs 32mb S3...then consider you can add at least another 32-64mb External SDcard to the S3 at about the $20-$40 range and that's for good quality class 10 or better.
Finally, I disable the Touch Wiz launcher portion of my stock 4.0.4 rom and use Go Launcher EX which is fantastic. I tried living with TW launcher but it is crippled compared to GLEX. I use a lot of 3rd party apps like Widget Locker, Handcent SMS...etc., and some minor mods and tweaks...and this unit blazes. This time around, no need for custom roms. I get 99.9999 stability now. I honestly cannot believe everything actually works. I am a power user and do not leave any stone unturned....so believe me, the i747m rocks big time.
I am a bit leery of the update to 4.1.1 when it supposedly comes out in December for Rogers....because I have never had an Android rom or device run this wickedly well (and I definitely don't want a leaked version) I know that I will appreciate new features but I am sure I will spend over a month fixing tons of little nuances. Also, reading through the forums here, some experience BETTER performance going to JB...and others are extremely disappointing.
Holy long winded reply batman! Hope some of it is of some use to you and others. Cheers
Yes, I'm appreciating the 2GB of RAM coming from HOX+. I think pretty much any new Android Smartphone in 2013 will have 2GB RAM. I actually didn't realize the S3 had 2GB until after I got it! I also like the slightly slower S4 processor as it appears to be more efficient. Battery life on this S3 seems much better than my HOX+ was with same apps running. There appeared to be an issues on my HOX+ periodically wanting to re-scan my media library (android.process.media) eating up CPU and usually "Music Enhancer" running with it which is a process related to Beats Audio according to HTC. I did have 2800 MP3 files though - maybe it was just going to take a week for it to scan all the files, LOL. I'm an Audiophile and Beats is a complete marketing joke. I want my source to be unaltered so I can set my own EQ settings depending on listening environment (headphones, car, room)
Can't wait to get the same Rock Sandblast case on this S3 that I had on the HOX+. Most cool, unique feeling and tastefully looking case I've ever seen and super thin.
Enough ranting. I'm obviously much happier with the S3. Considering it came out 6 months ago, it is a phenomenal achievement by Samsung. Their engineers really are on the ball.

Ok you actually got it. That's great. No ranting bro...that's happy pride!
I come from heavy ram management experimentation back with my HD2 including using Zram and swap....and I knew the 2gb was going to be another era for me. I would even be so bold as to say, we could use 3gb...again, depending on if you use large apps and games etc. If it was 3gb, the background app limit could go from 50 to something like 85...which means...insane mutitasking...though the apps and OS must be programmed to allow them to stay there in ram. Android OS STILL seems to kill off certain apps etc., after a certain period of idle time...even if limits (50) is not hit and free ram is available.
I have heard some dual core users like us, say in the real world usage, it's just as good as the Quad Core variants. A lot must have to do with IF the apps are written to handle Quad cores.
I have never used beats but I could probably agree based on my knowledge of audio (I am a Sound Tech) It depends so much on the amp/spkr/headphone source including impedance and such. I am sure the digital to analogue conversion on the S3 is probably not the best, but it sounds normal to me. I know we are also able to output the DIGITAL audio from the USB out...in which case, we bypass all internal D/A conversions and can go straight to a external DAC/Preamp/Amp of choice etc.

[Q] Buyer's remorse??

Hey Everyone,
Curious to know if anyone has buyers remorse over making the switch to this device from another device?
Does anyone ever run the phone within the confines of the original OS?
What is your real world expectation 6 months from now with this device?
How long do you plan on keeping the device?
What is the most important everyday feature that is a keeper & deal breaker?
How has the form factor impacted the way you look at phones in terms of the screen size vs the size of the device?
Also as a side note. Have anyone ever worked with a fully calibrated monitor like a Eizo or a Ben-Q?
Or for industry folks, any panasonic or Sony broadcast monitors? The correlation being those monitors have the same look at least to my eyes.
Finally have you ever acquired a device that you did not initially have buyers remorse?
I have the phone myself. I am just curious to what the community at large is vibing at the moment...
I'm happy with the G3 especially the screen and camera. I jumped to the G3 from the LG Flex. Nice that the T-Mobile G3 comes with a unlocked bootloader and I'm sure development will be good with time. I'm a phone junkie and usually just keeps phones around 6 months. Jump helps with that.
Sometimes I DO regret getting this phone. It's a good phone, but it's just not the earth shattering, mega phone I was hoping for. Even rooted with no bloatware, i still experience lag, freezes, and subpar battery life. Also, maybe it's just my device, but I'm really not impressed with the screen at all. The blacks seem way too "milky", and i really can't see the difference between this and a 1080 screen, except for when I look at certain photos or videos.
The camera is nice for a 13mp shooter. That's really the main positive.
I returned it after 2 weeks. To many performance trade offs for the QHD screen. Once the more powerful phones hit later this year (Shamue and Note 4) the G3 will struggle. Although that's why the Prime is being released.
Curious what other 5.5" screen are you comparing it to?
Me too returned it after 2 weeks, and the reason was just the screen, everything else is great.
First, couldn't stand this yellowish tinted screen and the poor blacks, and second because of the lag/stuttering
Was it lagging in dual window mode or playing a game?
Or was it on a productivity App?
Or was it simple browsing?
Or transitioning from on app to the next?
As I never used dual window, I can't say if it lags there...
Most annoying was the stuttering to me, and this happened nearly everywhere, transitions, scrolling...
But Lg will fix it sooner or later I guess.
As I wrote, the main reason for returning it was the display...

Some people have the G3 lag some don't. I don't notice any lag. From what I read on here the lag is simple fix by changing the launcher and or a setting or two. Removing bloat helps too.
My screen is bight and battery is good enough for me. I guess I was lucky and got a good G3.
As far as the G3 being a "wow" phone it's not but I think those days are over for phones. I was going to wait for the Note 4 but after seeing the leaked pictures I think I'm glad I didn't.
Got the D855 32GB..
All I can say is, I'm so glad i didn't put much attention on others negative opinion about the device...
We all knew it come's with QHD display before buying it, I don't get why too many about it...
As of me, I'm very happy with it... Coming from nexus 7 2013, my criteria for next device was, at least 3gb ram, 32gb internal storage with external (a 64gb internal w/o ext is also okay)... Just saying by the way. =)
There are always those people who have remorse after buying a device by the way..
I've come from an iPhone 4S!:silly:
I bought the International version with 32GB and the 3GB ram (F400S) and I've not found it laggy at all, even with the all the Korean bloatware apps on there.
The main reason I purchased it was because I was so impressed with the LG G2 that I bought for my wife a few months back, just loved the design and screen.
Hopefully when the "Ints" get their bootloader unlocked and we can nandroid backup and get some cool roms (come on PardusHD!) then it should run even smoother.
The battery life isn't as good as I expected, but then I'm usually charging using a USB port (500mAH) so it will take ages and I've hardly ever had it at 100% but it's way better than the iPhone 4s battery life.
I'm a little disappointed in the screen, I don't find it as "bright" as the Samsung S ones, I've just taken off the auto brightness as I found it too low, in any light environment and currently set it at 85%.
Overall design is nice and it's very light. I'm not a fan of big screens, but then that's the way they're all heading nowadays....

Sole reason of fast battery discharge
I don't have this phone yet but I know the 32g has 3 gigs of ram and the 16 has 2 gigs. Might be why some suffer lag. Make sure when comparing you specify which version folks

Can you link a video of the stuttering if you know one?
Sorry didn't make myself a video, saw the stuttering in some video reviews, but I don't remember them, as I watched quite lots, sorry ☺

Here's an example of the stutter in games. At 8min 20.

I don't have buyer's remorse exactly, but I'm not thrilled with the device in every way. I like the camera a lot better than the one on my HTC One M7, and the G3 battery life is better than my M7. That's really it. My M7 felt snappier in every way, and the screen looked better. Once the Nexus 6 comes out I will likely sell the G3 and pick one up. I just can't stand all this locked bootloader nonsense and the lack of development that occurs as a consequence.

[Q] Buying LG G3

Hi,
Lately I've decided selling my iPhone and move to android.
After checking the top devices that android offers I had come up with 3: LG G3, HTC One M8 and Samsung GS5.
I'm having a terrible time deciding between them, although I'm kind of leaning towards the LG G3, and that's why I'm posting this here.
After some research done, I found a bunch of people saying that there's some lag while using it, and I wanted to ask you guys:
As an iPhone user migrating to android, will I find the lag noticeable and a bothersome?
Also, are we expecting to have an unlocked bootloader anytime soon or is it not worth waiting for?
It seems there is no better way other than trying for yourself. Some people say, Android lags badly compared to iOS and Windows Phone. Some don't seem to notice lag. And some don't care about the lag. People are different.

Yeah, yet feeling it for 5 minutes in the store won't give me as much experience and information as will users who use this phone on a daily basis, don't you think?
Idk, as I've never owned an iPhone, but like yurly said, it is all about preference, I don't see lag on my g3, but then again, I've never owned a phone that ever really "lagged" (besides my Samsung moment) but I know people who have gone to Android and loved it, but i also know people who have gone to Android and hated it... And the bootloader will come with time...
---------- Post added at 05:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:11 PM ----------
It's all preference at the end of the day, but you really can't go wrong with any of the 3 devices you listed.
Well an iphone is pretty much just an app drawer lol. Ive owned several iphones including 5s. After iOS 6.0 it all went downhill. I will admit i am an android fanboy and im spoiled by how much customization android has and how open it is compared to iOS.
In terms of the best android phones, i think the HTC One M8 could have been the greatest android device to ever launch but HTC chose to go with the mediocre 4.0 megapixel camera. I dont care what others say, the camera is terrible compared to others. I had to sell my M8 because of that. I personally dont like samsung phones because the bezels the phone has, and im not too big on the plastic build. The G3 is my second LG device and its an amazing phone.SD card slot, removable battery, 2k screen, laser focus, 13mp shooter, OIS, 3gb ram, quad core, i could go on. All those features to me make a great device. My biggest gripe about the G3 is that i have all these amazing features with a locked bootloader....
I just damaged my phone with water and now I'm thinking of getting a new one.
My dilema is between G3, Htc One(M7), Nexus 5 and either of the Xperia Z/Z1/Z1 Compact.
Can you guys share some opinions which you think is best performer, battery life etc?

I actually decided getting an Android phone because of the customization and my growing haterd towards Apple.
As to the HTC One M8, it seems amazing, and the only thing that makes me consider the other phones is the camera. I don't want a ****ty one, period. Your feedback only makes me strengthen my opinion.
About the LG, however, my main concern is the lag mentioned by a bunch of people. You, as a previous iPhone user, don't feel annoying lags while using it?
And also, about the S5, on paper, besides the screen maybe (and the 3GB RAM), it's all-round equal or better than the LG.. And I was thinking that with flasing a ROM that doesn't contain the usual **** Samsung provides, it'd be an even better choice?

There's no point to get a nexus 5 now with the nexus 6 coming out this year. For the M8, the camera was mediocre. The S5 has 2gb of ram not 3, and as to comparison, the LG on paper is way better than the galaxy S5. In real world specs, my wife has an S5 and my G3 has better battery life, better stock rom, more ram, and in my opinion a better camera. People say the G3 lags, mine doesnt much, it could be the stock LG rom is so heavy, which it is, but not as near as heavy as bloated touch wiz samsung roms lol. Once LG bootloader is unlocked this phone will be the best phone on the planet. Also, all three of the phones you're looking at have way better battery life than iphones lol.
Its not my phone to pick, but if you want me to pick for you id pick LG G3. If the bootloader isnt unlocked within the next few months sell to get S5 or Note 4. Also i hate BEZELS AROUND A SCREEN (LIKE GALAXY AND IPHONE) I LIKE THE FRONT TO BE MOSTLY SCREEN NOT SCREEN WITH UGLY BEZELS AROUND IT.....

Before G3 I had M7 and it was amazing phone. I would get M8 but it didn't felt good in my hand. I love G3 but I still think M8 is better. All depends what you want from the phone. G3 without some modifications will lag quite often. HTC has the smoothest stock experience. You have to try them to make sure wich one is for you.
I would go with the G3, but depending on your provider I've read that this phones bootloader is locked meaning you cant install a custom rom or os if thats important to you. Thats NOT a dealbreaker for me at all I love my G3 and still able to root my G3 I customized it the way I want.
Really great phone, very easy to customize, im not a heavy user so I get through the day just fine with the battery, yes I charge it at work but again it gets me through the day. Years ago I started with a iphone 3g and then made the switch to android been with the samsung galaxy line all the way up to the Galaxy S4, then jumped to the LG G3 this is my very first LG phone and I could not be happier. I found on my Samsung S4 the lagging especially during gaming was driving me crazy. Also I found there was so much more bloatware crap on my samsung phone compared to my new LG G3. Yes the LG has bloatware but much less the S4.
It really depends on what you want and the feel of the phones in your hand when using. My G3 im happy with, you may have to get use to the buttons in the back and also the android os...... iphone was pretty much plug it in and your done. Androids a little different but I prefer android.
I personally hate apple devices I have just come from a note 3 to a g3 for my first lg device so far I like it only lag I seem to have noticed is when opening messages but its like any device don't close unused apps and it will hang, at least I can easily get a full day usage out of any android unlike apples terrible battery and imo once you have an iPhone you have had them all same s*** different bucket but of course that is my opinion

I just bought the G 3 to upgrade my Galaxy S 4. I looked seriously at the G 5 and the OneX M8. What I did was to spend some time figuring out what features I did or did not like personally. What I came up with was the biggest gripe I have had personally with any smartphone was having the power and volume buttons on the sides of the phone. Since I habitually carry in my left shirt pocket, I stopped looking at anything over the largest size phone that fit the brand of shirt I wear. I was ALWAYS inadvertently powering off the phone or resetting the volume, I was to the point where I was accustomed to it and had pretty much learned to live with that, but didn't really like it much. I also wanted a removable back cover ans an SD slot. I also am in areas where data signals don't work well, so cloud storage is not a really good alternative. I also wanted the ability, out of the box, to decide where stuff went, either to internal or to SD storage. I would have preferred LG took the same stance as Samsung on offering a waterproof dustproof phone, but this is not the case.
I didn't care for the HTC camera or the Sense UI, but could learn to live with sense OK if all else was well. Good phone, not so good camera. I am also sort of tired of the way Samsung has gotten so obnoxious with bloat and as far as I am concerned they can put Knox where the sun don't shine. Verizon is bad enough here, but the combination of the two is sort of overbearing.
So, I wound up with the LG G 3. I am really happy with it. It literally blows the socks off the S 4 in terms of call quality and signal strength. The S 4 simply is like the junior high playing ball against the high school varsity. Th G 3 GPS is about the same degree better than the S 4. I call the camera of the G 3 and the S 4 a draw. I don't feel the G 3 quad HD screen is particularly world bending, but is just about perfect for my tastes. I can sure see where some like the Samsung view, but the Samsung colors look...well for me they look almost artificial. However that is a strictly personal deal, YMMV. I really like the button placement of the LG. Out of the box the LG experience is, just like they say, simpler and better.
The battery life of the LG is MUCH better than reviews led me to expect. I am not a gamer or power user, but I can get two days of use between charges. Better battery life than the S 4.
I have the stump root apk downloaded and will root it to remove the bloat I don't want. The Android OS has come far enough that for me anyway, the desirability of custom ROM flashing is not such a big deal as it once was. I have the feeling the LG G 3 will catch on enough we will see some more active development in this regard in the near future.

Is the LG G3 the right device for me?

I have been using Galaxy S3 for the last 2 years, along side 7000 mAh zerlolemon battery.
overall my experience with it, considering it was my first smartphone, was OK.
but now I'm looking for:
a bigger screen & a good looking one! (5.5"+)
better camera (S3's camera sucked!)
better speakers & sound quality overall (i watch YouTube a lot at work, some /movies/TV show as well)
newer & less laggy hardware (S3 is just to old, although i run custom roms on it!).
removable battery & SD card storage.
the LG G3 seems to answer all of my wishes from a new smartphone. but i read about a lot of bugs & defects complaints using google search, which scares me a bit!
what do you guys think? would love to hear your opinions, which will be more valid then online reviews of short use since you had the phone for longer time! good & bad stuff.
I probable will buy the 32GB storage unite, since it has bigger ram & the extra 16G will do only good since the camera files will be heavier compared to the S3!
thanks in advance .
I had used S3 for nearly 2 years as my daily driver and it was a pretty good piece because of it's customizability. But, recently I received the G3 as a birthday gift and even though it's design and hardware impressed me, i felt like something is missing. Sure, it has that beautiful screen, sexy curves, overall amazing design, and an amazing camera but the UI tends to stutter a lot which is really wierd considering the amount of power the snapdragon could deliver. It should have been a child's play, but apparently it isn't. Also, the display has an exagerated software applied sharpening, which to this day i still can't see the benefit of it making your fonts at different sizes look ugly. Furthermore, the hardware gets sometimes so hot from simple tasks making it simply unbeareable for your hands.
When i encountered ocasional lag with my S3 i understood that I was asking too much from an old hardware, but i never expected a new-gen phone to behave like this. We will have to wait and see what improvements the custom roms could bring to the table.
If you spend a lot of time watching and listening videos, the speaker does it's job honorably while the so called premium headphones felt less dynamic than the S3's. At this point, the M8 could be a better deal it's only downside being the display size (- 0.5'' ).
To be honest, I still dont know what to say. I guess i have big expectations from a flagship.
I strongly suggest trying the phone before buying it.
Since S3 is only phone you had any upgrade will be good. Just choose what do you prefer in phone. Htc for speakers, G3 for screen, samsung for water resistance. Battery life and performance are pretty much same for all of them. Try them out all and you will see which one suits you best
I used to have S3 too, only thing I miss is very black screen. But that's about it. G3 is better in every way.
If you dont care about your phone being outdated fast, you can also get Z3

I myself have switched recently from S3 LTE to the G3.
On the S3 a lot was possible with mods, ROMs and solutions from this great community :good: , it was and is a great phone.
My impressions on the G3 in comparison to S3 LTE are:
+ good speed and responsitivity
+ larger screen is nice
+ input handling (touch screen) seems more responsive to me
+ good signal qualities
+ excellent battery life
- community much less developed (no wonder, its pretty new and bump! is just out)
- wireless charging much more fidgety
- considerable more bulk (well, can't have it all )
- display is not as crisp and bright as with S3
Overall I am happy with the new phone and not looking back.

Great summary ccs16rocks. My feelings are exact to yours. In order to reduce many of the issues you identified, I had to root, modify, etc but this has not fixed all of the issues. I've changed my framework to ART and launcher to Nova, disabled all animations, scaling, etc. as well to help with stutter and slow downs, that helped dramatically.
After all of the work that I've put into the phone, there are still some things that I cannot fix or improve and I don't think they can be.
-Camera speed: I'm used to iPhone 5/6 performance/speed. There are apps that can speed up shooting, but none can reach the speed of an iPhone. Luckily there are tons of apps out there, if you have the time to try them and find the right one. I've been through a bunch so far and The apps that do work well (speed/performance), usually don't have any other features that seem practical to have integrated into the app. (video, square, panorama, etc)
-Battery life: I'm using a variety of tools/task killers/etc to minimize what's running, eating battery life or slowing the phone down. This varies and I can't seem to find a real solution to extending battery life any longer other than just not using the phone
That being said, I'm happy with the phone. The hype over the quality of the camera is odd to me though. Primarily because it's nice, but it isn't that great. Maybe it's better than other Android camera phones?
Another major concern is, with all the rooting/hacking/modding I've done to get the phone to operate more efficiently, I'm curious as to how I can upgrade to Lollipop when it comes out, since LG G3 handsets are getting it soon
Just want to thank everyone who replied .
after reading your comments, i decided to stay with the current S3 and skip the LG G3. although it's specification sound perfect for me, i just don't want to risk getting a new phone with all this possible bugs and defects! I will just wait until the note 4 or nexus 6 drop to a normal price in my country, don't mind waiting 6+ month for that. it's not like the S3 is a bad device, it does the job well enough for now.
If you read enough stuff on the internet ALL phones have stuff wrong with them - To me the G3 has some minor software hic ups with its launcher, nothing that makes it worth not buying.
Make sure not to buy the 16GB version, because the lag is REAL. The colleague from the USA might be delighted with the their 32GB beasts, but as for european costumer who are offered only the 16 giggs... Id be better without it. Seriously guys the europeen version is crap without any serious modifications!
The G3 is a wonderful device. As well I just wanted to say not everybody's phone laggs. I've had my G3 since launch and I only experienced very minimal lag and once I rooted and made a few small changes in trickster mod it's been nothing but good times.

Does the G3 still worth it ??

hello guys am consider buying an LG G3 and am a bit consurend about it
because of the lag and the overheating problems
can anyone tell me how the experience with the device and if ther's problems can they be solved with mods and roms ??
plz help
i have a budget of 350 $ and the HTC ONE M8 is about 550 $ in my country
Yes & No
I love my G3 on AICP 9.0 but I must admit he sometimes get really hot and I haver 2,5h of screenon on an average day... If you can buy one cheap he is really worth it. Great screen (although a bit dim in direct sunlight), nice handeling experience and a top camera.
I'm not fan of the LG UI so I can't recommend it for the software experience
I think you should test one and look if it suits your needs :good:
Since I have experience with both LG G2 and G3, If you are not to much involved into race for the newest smartphones on the market, I would recommend to you LG G2.
Why?
- Perfectly balanced battery with easy 6+ SOT and two days of usage with one charging
- Perfect size for average male hand, with full HD 5.2 screen
- Perfectly capable hardware and lag - free experience without overheating.
- Excelent camera - it is virtually impossible to feel or see difference in quality when comparing with G3 in everyday usage
- WIth CloudyG2 ROM G2 gets complete G3 user interface
Weak points:
- No microSD slot, so 32GB of internal storage could be insufficient for some users. I had 16GB version, and haven't felt usage issues at all for more than year. Responsible user should move videos and photos to computer or other external storage regularly anyway.
G3 looks better, have larger screen, a little bit better hardware, and that's it. CPU can be quite hot from time to time, but phone works nicely. With custom stock - based ROM (CloudyG3) there are no lags at all, and with stock ROM sometimes phone can look a little bit lazy, but no real lags.
Since in beautiful Marrakesh air temperature can be quite high, I would consider that also

I recently came from the S4 where I had pretty massive lag issues and most of it had to do with the phone always being maxed out (even with 2 GB of RAM). If you get the 32GB G3, it comes with 3GB of RAM (I think the 16GB only comes with 2GB of RAM, so you might see some of that lag you're referring to).
That said, I just bought the 32 GB G3 and I haven't experienced hardly any lag with just the stock (rooted) OS. That said, I use launchers so there's little difference in setup from one device to another.
One thing worth noting is that, because this is considered a "last gen" phone (ie the G4 is out now), it's possible that many of the developers have moved on to another phone. Getting responses to basic questions takes quite a while (in my experience) so if you're looking for a phone with an active developer community, you might want to look at a more recent phone. However, If you're looking for a phone/media device that has a lot of the information available for you, don't mind reading, and are comfortable enough with development, I'd say get the G3 (I'd aim for the 32GB version).
So yeah, that's my opinion. Let us know if you end up picking up the phone or if you decide to go with something else. Good luck!
