[Q] Question about super amoled burn-in - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this is driving me crazy :| i keep reading stuff about "amoled burn-in" issue and blab blab how it gets the notification bar all screwed up and other stuff
i got myself a "Galaxy tab s LTE T705" wich has samsungs newest super amoled technology
and now that i read all this stuff it scares me :| is it really true ? or its just some issue with old technology
and has been fixed or improved in new devices , anyone with any updated info can help ? thanks

Well, its still possible to get even on the newer ones. I believe they should be improved now as samsungs tab 7.7 didnt do so well. As long as you dont keep your brightness at 100% and are on facebook or a social media app for more then 4-6 hours straight then you should be fine. Watching videos and other stuff shouldnt give you any screen burns. The notification bar is black in which things that are black stay fully black. So that means that it shouldn't burn in from just black or dark colors and saves battery too.
If you want, you can read more on how super amoled works. Something about dark colors does something bla bla bla. But it shouldnt be a problem if you are a movie watcher or web surfer Hope this helps!
Btw i also made a thread on this issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3009478

I've never seen this happen ever. And I do and did all the things to excess on my Galaxy S2.
Sent from my Galaxy S5

thanks a lot man , with all you said i dont think if it can happen to me since i'm super duper careful when it comes to my stuff , i always have my brightness on like 20-40% max not cuz of screen burn-in but cuz its totaly enough for me since im suing the device mostly under a roof , and also i have my status bar on auto hide thanks to nova launcher , yea i do play games and watch vids kinda a lot and read stuff on my tablet since the screen is so bloody amazing . all im Q.Qing about is lollipop update for it which will be available soon as i heard ! so yey

Of all the things in the world i worry about amoled burn in isn't one of them! Don't let it ruin your life! Enjoy!

There is no such burn in BUT, there is this ghosting in Tab S 8.4 where, when the brightness is low, and u have anythung on screen, ANYTHING, when u scroll, the blacks show ghosting.
I have tried this in every possible scenario and it shows ghosting of the sceeen. There is also this ghosting kinda thing going on when, agaon , when brightness is low, the drop down notifivatipn bar shows bluish tint same as it was in Galaxy S5. I think this secondroblem os software related cause as i remember it was fixed by samsung. But the ghosting part is issue with all the AMOLEDS. Its still not fixed.
Try yours in low brightness and in some dark room or place, u will see it easily, btw i myself have tried this in 3 different models 3 8.4 and 1 model of 10.5 Tab S

Epic Touch 4G screen question

Hey guys , I have a problem, whenever i browse a site with a gray background, the screen is all the way down from its brightness ( since i use it indoors most of the time) i see like a semi black blurry line coming down top half the screen, you can notice it more in a gray background/image then with a color, but if you notice where the blurry line is, and is actually quite thick, though after you notice it, and switch to other colors, you can tell that there is a contrast difference between the color background and where the line is..
Im taking the phone to the sprint rep, i've already mentioned it to the Phone operator, and she mentioned she will note it, and i can just take the phone in.
( taking a screenshots odviously is useless, I'll bring up photoshop and somewhat portray what i see on the phone screen when i get home from work )
Though my phone hasn't been suffering with the android OS over percentage usage or anything of sorts, no LOS or nothing else, just the Wifi Scanning Bug..
If u over look it, you wont see much different and more when the screen is fully bright, but when the brightness is taken all the way down, you can see it! wtf... so i might as well take the risk, and see if i can get it replaced and hope that the next phone will be good too eh?
Could it be some Semi-dead LED, or burnt?..
I know that the way i write makes no sense lol, sorry english is my second language, im cuban
If your within your 30 or 14 day return why not? Obviously its bothering you so get new one. But do it right before your 30 day is up cause hopefully the second batch of epic touches will be out

Galaxy W hurts my eyes

Hi,
Does this happen to you too? It seems when i look at the screen of the phone for 20 mins (or sometimes even less than that- like 5 minutes or so!) my eyes begin to hurt. Because of that i cant even read books much because of the small font (in pdf) and the screen.
Is this because of the HVGA screen? Do you think this will be solved with a SAMOLED phone?

Nope. Try setting your brightness. Be diligent: tweak the brightness whenever your ambient lighting changed.
After all, changing the brightness on a Samsung Android device is a simple swipe across the status bar.

Aside from the advise above, also set your system font size to become bigger. If that still doesn't help, you'll need a phone with a bigger display. Just make sure, the newer one will have a pixel density that would be higher or at least equal to what we have on our wonder (250+ ppi). My cousin had the same experience and found out it was the low pixel density of his phone's screen that was causing his headaches.
I hope this helps.

I read quite alot books in Cool Reader with Old Paper background and trying to have backlight as low as possible. I read in public transport in daylight or in a complete darkness at the night. And I can say taht after half of hour my eyes get tired, but does not hurt me. I have eye corretion +0.5 on left and -0.75 on right and not wearing any glasses.
Anyway - if your eyes HURT, I would strongly recomend e-ink book reader. And visit your doctor!
Good luck!

[Q] Screen flickering (CRT like)

Hi,
EDIT
Resolved it (kinda), I shut the "Economy mode" and the screen stop the flickering....
---
I'm creating a new thread for this problem got an answer there telling me it's my phone, but I would like to know if somebody else notice this.
It's like on good old CRT. Got a Note I (got stolen) bought a Note 2 and I can see a flickering, like if the display had a 60Hz refresh rate, never notice such a thing with the Note I.
It's more noticeable on white screens. And when you are using peripheral vision, by pointing your eyes like 10 centimeters from the side of the device, the flickering must be more visible
The effect looks like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3jHOwE8MqA not mine but can give an idea of the problem.
Thanks

Never notice it with my Note I, it seems that it's partly due to AMOLED technology, but as I did not notice it on my Note I...
Maybe it varies form device to device...

Go to Display > Features > Smart Rotation . Disable Smart rotation and voila the problem is resolved....

Don't feed the troll
Ok, so if you do not own this device the Note 2, and do not want the device, why chime in and post/comments...
My scraan is flickering too. Feels like old CRT TV. When brightness not at 100% level I can observe this problem. Looks like samsung using PWM to control brightness. I think this is terrible. And I hope this can be fixed by software (adjust brightness by gamma correction etc)
mine also sometimes flickering on the lock screen in the near clock area for about 0,5-1 sec. but no need to worry, i guess its a hidden samsung note 2 feature...
So there are no solutions to fix screen flickering? Maybe we can overclock screen somehow? Maybe alternative brightness control?
The screen flicker mus be due to a bad batch of screens. Mine had the screen flickering too. and even with economy mode shut down and brightness is set to less then 100%. if you rapidly move the phone you can see that you see several screens instead of a blurry moving screen. this way you know it flickers. so for example if you move your phone up and down very rapidly instead of seeing a blurry view of the screen you will see several edges of the screen simultaniously. this tells you its flickering. While just looking at the screen you wont actually see the flickering but its somehow disturbing.
The way i know that your screen is defect is because due to a rescent replacement of my screen on my note 2 the flickering is totally gone now.
But keep in mind that my battery usages with screen on has increased. so i think samsung changed the power management for these new screens so that they wont flicker anymore. but they consume more power now. first i used the screen 6,5 hours and had a standby of 24 hours. now i have 6 hours screen on time with 24 hours standby. so its a bit of a change though. I just tested it 1 time. so it could also be i used the phone in another way when getting only 6 hours.
But just to let you guys know the flickering can be fixed.

[Q] Purple smudging on screen

Hey guys, I'm thinking this is simply a common drawback from having an amoled screen, but I just wanted to be sure. While using auto brightness in a dark room (e.g., during bedtime) the brightness level on my device is properly turned down, but I've noticed that when looking at applications that use a black background there will be a lagging "purple smudge" when scrolling or sliding through an application. I first noticed this while using the Yahoo Fantasy Football app in bed. Again, I read that this may be a common problem with phones that have amoled screens but I just wanted to make sure I'm not the only one with some sort of defect. Are you guys experiencing this?
I have used several amoled screen phones and have never had an issue like that. I now have a note 4 as well and I'm not experiencing anything like that. I tried to recreate your condition as best I could and I'm not seeing it..... good luck with that one!
yeah, it always happens on amoled. s4, s5, and the galaxy tab s has it. it's just how it's always been
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Nothing to be worried about. All I have had have done this and the note 4 is no different. Just remember, it's the BEST display available on a phone right now... or so I have read
mine is so terrible, its making me crazy! specially when watching a movie, its all purple, it started the day after i bought it and now got terrible ! my movies get all purple :|(not that much but really annoying)
I'm having the same problem on my note 4 (SM-N910C) after the lollipop update... It's making me very angry! At least on my device the effects seem to be rather substantial... I'm sure this wasn't happening on kitkat...
Anyone else having this problem?
So I tried to reproduce this and under no circumstances does my phone exhibit this under auto brightness.
Though no matter how dark it is my phone will only drop brightness to about ~15-20%.
Even if I drop the brightness down to 2-5% manually it does not exhibit the purple lag.
For my device... only at the absolute minimum brightness does it exhibit this behavior.
If your device is exhibiting this kind of behavior what brightness level is it actually at?

Image Retention

Hey guys, got the phone for a few days.
already got burn ins from whatsapp. the white textbox is two times burned in (keyboard/without)
if u open up a dark grey picture u might see it as well.
just have seen it by an accident when opening "simple gallery", its base backround color was grey, so i found the burn ins.
i am not sure if all displays are affected by the burn ins, i will return mine :/
oh no. can u install aida 64, click on display, whats the panel id.
I've been using mine for almost 1 month and I have no image retention (btw it's image retention, it goes away . Only amoled's burn -in)
tianma td 4310.

I got the tianma td4310 as well.
Thx for your answere. This morning it was a way better. I know that only amoleds were known for burn-ins. so yeah, seems like it´s only "image retention", anyways for just a few days usage i am pretty disappointed.
will keep the phone for now and hope that it´s not getting worse

Are you on MIUI or some custom rom?
If you are on a custom rom, go to display and then to live display and then to colors and from 100% go to 95% to all of them. This happened to tianma panels on Redmi Note 4 too on custom roms.
This also happens to every LG since G4. Low-quality LCD Panels.
There is nothing wrong with your phone , you can rest assured.

atm RR, so far the best rom i guess. but still the only one i tried. had the RMN4 as well, but never issues with the display (except yellow spot, soon warranty/repair)
i just hope for some aosp roms in the future like AEX and custom kernels
but atm the phone is pretty new on the market and we need to wait a little bit
Yeah, it would be nice to have selection of different ROMs.

actually it´s image retention, not a burn in. so it´s not good, but it seems to be okay.
i am not able to take a photo, cuz u would need a better camera for it.
i guess it depends on the apps that u use and how often.
if u want to see if u got it as well, you could try to download a simple grey picture.
for me grey/dark grey worked good to check it. then open it in fullscreen. u might see the buttons from the navbar slightly.
i´ve been using whatsapp a lot the last few hours, so i could see the white textbox.
atm i am on RR and i recently found out that u barely get max brightness on autobrightnes maxed out. after using max brightness (manual) it seemed to be better. dunno why may be on max brightnes, the pixel get "reset" better. i don´t know.
all in all. it´s okay for me and i guess if u got it, u can recalibrate it.
I installed aida 64 from playstore but I don´t get any panel info in "display"... where do you guys find that Info about panel manufacturer?
Everything is going to be alright. It's just a low-quality screen, nothing can be done except:
Go to display, live display, color tweak and tweak the colors. From 100% go to 95% and voila, everything is going to be normal. Tinama screens are pretty bad, you can go to the redmi note 4 forum and then look for image retention. There are a lot of topics about that and it seems that only tinama screens are affected.
tl;dr: nothing to be worried about. You probably wont have problems on MIUI because the screen is calibrated

Completely false, I have official MIUI 9.5.6.0, I have the phone for 2 days, it created image retention like crazy, god fing damn i didnt expect xiaomi to have such **** panels, so disappointed
@Kusie
Open Xiaomi dialer app and type *#*#6484#*#* and click "software version"
Tianma 4310 display as well. 7 days of usage. 22,75hr + of total SOT. Auto-brightness enabled. Contrast mode : high. Colours mode : standard. Mainly using tatatalk with night mode anabled , XDA labs with dark there as well and SimplePro for FB with white theme. Google keybord green theme. At late night hours auto-reading mode kicks in (100% set)
No image retention/tiny and barely visible navigation bar (or it's just placeboo).
Interesting. Some people here with the same panel face instant burn ins and some don't...
It has to be connected with color schemes of apps, which you are using or brightness levels, which you are mainly on

I saw image retention the first day I got the phone. Changed the color settings to cold (MIUI) and no problem since then.

And why should we be forced to use ugly Cold mode? We lose color accuracy just by doing that, along with the screen having an unnatural blue hue which is also bad for the eyes, I want color accuracy not a screen looking like it's frosted
Hi,
i am on "Linageos 15.1" and today i saw that the color of the screen went to dirty. Before i had very good color representation and now it is like gray, no saturation, no big hue.
While rebooting the phone i saw the last Apps i was running. I can see the Statusbar while i am on bootloader-animation.
My phone runs for about 1,5 months and this issue appeared immediately from one second to another.
So there is no solution to get the display working as it should?
So i have to buy a new phone?
I got a replacement device b/c of the image retention. The display manufacturer is not Tianma anymore but Shenchao. The model number stays the same.
