[Q] Bypassing screen lock without an internet connection - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
Here's the situation. My Mum passed away in December very suddenly. Her Desire Z is really causing us trouble. She had a screen lock pattern set, which we haven't been able to guess.
We have reset her Google passwords (since we didn't know the old ones) but the device has WiFi turned off, and mobile data turned off, so when we try to login to one of her Google accounts to reset the screen lock it says "invalid username and password". For these reason I also can't send an unlock reset from Google device manager. I've obviously tried connecting it via a USB cable just to copy photos or any other files but it won't even do that while it's locked. It just doesn't seem to recognise that a USB cable is connected, unless it's plugged into a charger.
I've googled it at length and tried all sorts of tricks like calling the phone and clicking certain buttons, opening the keyboard at exactly the right moment, and so on. Unfortunately nothing has worked.
I know how to hard reset the device, but is there any way at all to get access to it before I do so?
Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

[Q] Phone access question - root or not.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. My brother is a military guy, redeployed, and he gave me his droid 2 since he wont need it for a year. I am considering switching over from my droid one which brings us to my question.
I would like to demo this phone out with all his apps and games(ex not hard resetting it) before I commit to losing my upgrade reward with verizon.
He has a screen lock on his phone(which I assume is the standard one) Ive tried all his usual passwords, with no avail. He didnt have usb debugging enabled, which Im not sure would help. So whenever I usb up nothing happens other than it showing "usb connected" on the phone.
It has no service, I cant enable wifi, I cant access it via usb (maybe). How do I access this phone?
Im running Karmic, xp, and 7.
Who has some ideas?

HTC One X - screen broke, access via MHL.

Hi guys!
This is definitely something weird and I can all but guarantee you havn't come across something like this before!!
Ok so, my friend broke his HTC One X, cracked the screen, but it still works. - he just wants the data off it.
Now, i have an MHL cable, plugged that in, rebooted the phone and went from there...the only issue is it boots in landscape. so when we pull the ring to unlock the device, because of poor software in the phone it just FILLS the whole screen with an "emergency call" massive button, but the emergency call text is skewered to the left hand side of the phone. Thus, we cannot enter his username and password into the input fields to give him his access back to his phone!!
Although funnily enough, the phone mysteriously loaded up once in portrait (so we could imagine the keyboard on the screen), but after 100 of attempts its not giving it us again, which means we cant enter his gmail user and pass in again!
Infact, when it did load up in portrait, we entered his gmail address and password, pressed sign in...PATIENTLY WAITED...and said the password was incorrect! FUUUUUU. Also, data is disabled on his phone (maybe why it fired the issue with it saying password was incorrect), and now we're back to square one, trying to get the phone to load up in portrait.
I recall, back when i had my Galaxy S2, that i once flashed a kernel to the device and it would mysteriously remove the password...the only issue we have with this is that the HTC One X, (if it does boot to recovery), doesn't display through MHL, so we can't flash anything to the phone anyway!! basically TOTAL lockout!
So guys...any assistance at all, because he's deeply upset the fact he's going to lose all of his files!!

If you're asking for a method to bypass security, and access an accounts information on a device, I am definitely NOT happy divulging any means to do so.
No-one should ever ask for, nor should anyone ever provide, the means of bypassing any security, logging into any accounts, or accessing device data.
No offence, but you could be anybody and this device could have been acquired by any means.

Im asking for a method to force the screen to display in portrait!
After doing a bit of research ive noticed a lot of people would come to this conclusion, any assistance at all in WHY the username and password for my friends gmail account allows us to sign in via google, but NOT on the ONE x, even though its the only email address in use on the phone!
is there any way at all in putting the phone into a recovery mode of sorts, maybe via the emergency dial pad?
Understandably there is a lot of confusion/anger towards this subject, but when it comes to 2 people trying to get into a device that is their own...any reasonable suggestion is welcome!!
You could always unlock the bootloader and use a custom recovery then mount the phones as mass storage there.
However this would void is warranty then again it depends how he broke the screen.
It maybe booting portrait as it thinks it's in a dock you tried without the cable?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Hey!!
Thanks for the idea but we can't tell if its booted in recovery even with the necessary key combo to get it into that mode...we're running out of ideas...im really annoyed that the user and pass for his gmail didnt actually let him in the phone...what other email address would google keep as a backup to confirm he is the owner of the phone?!
Also, the screen is completely destroyed, the digitizer however works lovely!
Alas, any more ideas? x

if you're connected to a network it should work fine with a gmail/pass however if you can't actually see how do you know what you're typing or even if you are typing?

Well I tried several display options but upon opening my Exs phone which she decided to stiff me on a 2 year contract and run over the phone with a car. The main board was broken and the digitizer and screen were broken... I had access to a working HTC one X so I took the motherboard, battery assembly reconnected into the working shell with the functional main board and voila! All info and in my case lies revealed... There is also a rainbow table available with an app on Git Hub that will circumvent any password on the phone using a Dual Mini Usb go cable I believe, it is demonstrated on the Hak5 show... Hope this helps!

Lock Screen Password / Pin

So I've been disabled on a Note 7 SM-N930W8 Rogers in Canada
I've finally had some time to sit down and write this out. I've been locked out of this Device since January when they blocked these phones in Canada. I completely forgot the pin number I setup when I put a password on this phone when I originally purchased it. I always have my phone on me and I always have a power block. Beleive it or not I've never let this phone die... that being said once night the phone was forced to update and boom wake up 4g Gone wifi gone now it's asking me for a pin number?!?! I've always used the retina or finger to get into the phone. I have some important information to download off this phone, only way i've thought about being able to get into the phone would be WIFI which would connect to my home wifi and then use the mobile.samssung.com account to remove the lockscreen pin or reset it....
I know I can restore the phone to gain access to it, but once I do this, all my data is gone.
Does anyone have any other ideas as to how I can get around this lockscreen situation?
Any help or ideas would be apreciated - i am done with the cat and mouse game just need my docs and will send back!

Nexus 5X Unable to connect to WIFI

Hello, This is my first thread in XDA DEVELOPERS.
My Nexus 5x's wifi is not connecting. 4 months ago, my phone boot looped . And I don't have any warranty. I tried every possible way to bring it back but failed. I factory reset then performed a rescue OTA Which was tough to do because the phone was boot looped. But I didn't give up. I contacted the Chinese Repairman(Mr. Huang Jinhui) via WeChat(the one Cathair2906 mentioned in his 4GB RAM upgrade article). I sent my phone to China. And the phone was fixed + the RAM also upgraded from 2GB to 4GB :highfive:. He sent me a video in WeChat that my phone has been fixed and he mentioned that there is an account lock. In his video, The WIFI was connected to his network(not even the caution mark in wifi signal). I am very happy with that. But the Chinese man couldn't go to the home screen as the phone was reset(I performed a rescue OTA after the phone was bricked that's why). My email & password was needed. But in China, Google server is disabled so he can't bypass FRP even if I give him my email & password. While everything is available in Shenzhen, China, I told him to buy me a new battery of my phone and charger and cable. He changed the battery and send me a clip. Everything was fine. But when I got my phone in my hand and tried to go next, I couldn't connect it to any WiFi Network:crying::crying: . It load and then "Unable to connect" caution appeared:crying:. My phone is in Android 7.1.2 with June Security Patch Level. So after watching some youtube videos on how to bypass FRP lock, I followed some steps and went to settings menu via Talkback option. Checked the phone memory, it shows 3.6GB Ram , that's fine. Then went to wifi option and tried to connect but still failed. Tried WPS push button, didn't work . Then one of my friends told me that since the battery has been changed, the time and date has been reset & wifi won't be connected if there is a major difference in time. I checked the date & time and it was not correct. Then I was hopeful and relaxed that if I set the time and date correctly, the wifi will be connected.
I set the current time & date from settings and tried to connect it to my wifi network......................... Still, I failed :crying:. Turned it off and on then tried again.......... still, it doesn't connect. No "Authentication Error" message appears. In WIFI Settings menu it shows just "Saved" instead of "Connected"
It's not like that my phone can't search WIFI. Everything is okay, WIFI can be turned off & on. It can search WIFI Networks. All okay, just one problem, it is not connecting.
I can't bypass the FRP lock if I can't connect my phone to WIFI. I'm facing bad time after bad time. I am so near that I am finally gonna use my beloved Nexus 5X again still I cannot because of the new found problem "Not connecting to wifi".
If anyone can help me, I will be really very very grateful.
Thanks

Broken screen, trying to do data recovery

I have a friend's A50 that was dropped and the screen does not power on. The device is stock, unrooted. It does power on because I get vibrations from doing various power button long presses and such, feeling as if it's powering on and then entering the OS. Additionally it can even be called and it rings.
Unfortunately, USB Debugging is not enabled so ADP isn't working. Also since it's defaulting to no file transfer, plugging it into a computer is not allowing access to the file system. All I'm trying to do is recover her photos and songs and such that she has recorded from the device storage.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to access the onboard storage?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Use the steps mentioned here :
https://youtu.be/GPJcR_Iosm4
I've personally tested it on my A50 prior to telling you. So it works 100%
Your problem doesn't require forensic tools, this simple fix works.
Tip :
• Windows key on keyboard opens Google Assistant. No need to say Hey/Ok Google.
• Not necessary, but you can keep another Smartphone nearby to verify your actions.
• Read the comments under the video.
Cheers !
I appreciate the help! I have a USB C OTG adapter on the way that should arrive tonight so I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes.

Whelp, no such luck. I'm sure that method would work fine under normal circumstances. I was able to practice on my Pixel 2 XL and it did work. But it appears she did not have google assistant set up, so I could not use voice to turn on wifi. It also appears to have no data connection without wifi, so I can't push an app to it through the play store. Even if I could get wifi turned on, there's no way to force it to connect to my wifi.
The unlock is a pattern, not a pin, so while you *can* unlock a pattern with a mouse or track pad (which I do have), doing it blindly is nearly impossible. So I have no way of knowing if I've even unlocked the phone. In short, I really don't know if there's much I can do for her, sadly.
@Morpherios
I already stated you don't need voice assistant activated, you can use Windows key to activate without saying Ok/Hey Google.
Read my @1 point.
Cheers !

The biggest 2 problems are that I can't verify if i've unlocked it since it uses a pattern and there's no feedback to tell me (I'm basically doing it blind from a touchpad because I don't know how else to go about it), and also that I don't know if it'll even get onto my wifi assuming I can get in and get it to turn on wifi.
I wish it was a pin, that would at least be easy to type in on the keyboard.

Don't worry.
I see you need your data urgently.
Use Cracked version of Dr.Fone software, it'll recover your data without USB debugging as well.
P.S - Message me personally on Xda, don't post here from now. I'll help you there.
Cheers !
What can I do if cant install APP from google play from PC?
How about replace the display and have a functional phone with your data back?
Hi, is it possible to unlock the device with the keyboard and then use a USB-C to HDMI cable to view the screen on an external monitor ?
