Fastboot USB not working, any fix? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hello everyone,
I have seem similar threads about this happening to windows 8 users, but my case is slightly different. as of yesterday my fastboot was working perfectly fine, until I tried to flash this RUU ( I was trying to downgrade my OS so I could use rumrunner to unlock my device), when I tried to flash the RUU I heard the alert message from windows that my phone was disconnected. ever since my pc never recognizes my phone while in bootloader, although it works perfectly fine while on the system.
In the devices manager MyHTC drivers show with the yellow triangle and the errorcode 10 (failed to start devices)
going to leave the links for the screenshots
http://puu.sh/frZtR/1df83dd309.png
http://puu.sh/frZEZ/ee866ea14c.png
this is the information displayed on my bootloader
RELOCKED
M7_WLV PVT SHIP S-OFF RH
CID-VZW__001
HBOOT-1.54.0000
RADIO-1.13.41.0421
OpenDSP-V32.120.274.0909
OS-4.10.605.3 (1.10.605.10) This part is displayed in red in the boot loader.
eMMC-boot 248MB
here is what I have tried already.
Install the usb 3.0 windows update( said already had it, plus this was working before so doubt it is the problem)
flash RUU.exe from here
Install and reinstall HTC drivers (multiple times)
restart computer
try different usb ports/cables
and I think this is all I have tried, will keep trying more stuff and update the post with information, has anybody encountered a similar problem or knows a fix?
Thanks in advance
EDIT: phone is now unlocked, also I'm on stock recovery. I also think the problem is that my bootloader got corrupted when the phone disconnect since I had hoot 1.57 prior to the bad ruu. Can the OTA fix my bad hboot? Will I lose root if I do that?

You are s-off, why do you need rumrunner? I don't know why your drivers will just stop working. I suggest running a distro of Linux and follow the below threads to ruu to 4.4.2 firmware (that one is pre-rooted so you can run the command to manually unlock your bootloader.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765784
After you ruu follow Scotty's instructions to unlock your bootloader.

Thanks for the reply, the thing is that I cannot flash the ruu I'm not rooted and cannot use the command to unlock, plus my ultimate goal was to return my device to stock s-on.

all right it resulted that i had root access so I was able to unlock the bootloader, but my phonw is still not being recognized while in bootloader. I will try another computer and linux distro and let you know if there was any success.

You could always use a live boot CD as most distros allow that. I suggest linux as fastboot would always work so we can rule out the PC having the issues.

Yes I have not discarded it being a computer issue, I have a Linux mint dvd at home and I will try that as soon as I get there and let you guys know.
Edit: Oh something that may be important is that the bootloader won't display fastboot USB unless I navigate through the menu, and the text will glitch while changing from fastboot to fastboot USB. That is the main reason I think is a corrupted bootloader.

My bootloader has the same issue. It has been like that since I got the phone. It might be just a batch of main boards that had the issue. It doesn't affect my fastboot capabilities at all.

Glad to hear that, that glitch is unrelated to my fastboot issue although I didn't have the issue before, but that means
It could still be a driver problem. One quick question, will updating ota remove my root status?

Yes, it will remove su apps, like supersu, but unlock/s-off will always stay.

It worked using a linux distro. I can't still believe that my windows drivers just suddenly stopped working. Thank you very much! one last question, what method should I use to get locked and S-ON?

RUU with that zip, lock the bootloader with Scotty's command, unroot, then do the below command.
Fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
Be sure you are completely stock and unrooted before locking and turning s-on. You can upgrade to the newer 4.4.3 software with either vzw ota or if you do not have vzw service you can with HTC Sync or the ruu exe for s-on if you get your drivers working.

and using that command will not show relocked nor tampered? I want to return to full stock. I know I sound skeptical but it is just that all the post that I have seen shows a way long and harder process.

RUU would remove tampered, Scotty's command would make the bootloader locked and the fastboot command will put the phone back to s-on.

[Q] Can't flash any rom. Stuck. M8 UK

Hi,
I am not new to rooting and flashing but I seem to have jammed.
I can flash custom recoveries(used both CWM and TWRP) no bother but I cannot flash rom.
I have tried pushing and side loading. TWRP just says failed.
CWM says cannot open update.zip from tmp (bad)
I am unlocked.
I am S-ON so I don't know a way around that atm without a ROM. I have tried reinstalling stock but failed.
HTC one M8 UK EE network.
Would love to fix this please.
I'm a novice, this is my first android phone but I believe you have to be s-off to flash ROMs. I'm on EE too, what I done was paid for Sunshine, about £14 I think, that unlocked the bootloader and s-off. I can flash ROMs no issues.

You don't need to be s-off to flash a custom rom.. just a unlocked bootloader.
Put the rom on your internal sdcard not external sdcard and try again.

I have tried repeatedly, all I get is failed.
Right now I have flashed TWRP.
I am going to try flashing Viper once again and should that fail, try HD revolution.

As I would, normally.
Toolkits cause more issues than they solve.
Try:
fastboot erase cache
Then flash recovery again, and see if that helps.
Also, do you get the phone model number as a response when you type both:
adb devices
fastboot devices
finally fixed it. Now enjoying Venom.

Not entirely sure how i fixed it but I'll list what I did.
Usually I work from a mac but decided to start afresh on my desktop.
I downloaded venom for m8
reflashed TWRP recovery.
Booted to recovery.
wiped cache and such.
Then adb side loaded the rom.
Some reason it worked. I have done this a good few times previously and with various rooms, not just venom.
I was using the AIO toolkit to side load this rather than the ADB cmd prompt.
Thanks for posting the steps that worked for you.
Like you said, hard to say what fixed it. Perhaps getting away from the toolkit, maybe just re-flashing recovery (even though you had done so previously) or wiping cache.
If moving a ROM to the device form the PC, I prefer adb push to adb sideload. Sideload seems to fail sometimes where push is fine. Push is some more steps (booting recovery and a few taps there to flash the ROM) but it seems more reliable. Although if it worked, it worked!

[Q] can access bootloader, but there's a problem.

so, someone is selling a bricked or possibly soft bricked phone, the dude said that he was trying to unroot it and some how while he was s-on he ended up deleting the os. he says it boots to the bootloader and everything and he says that while he tries to sideload something it fails... is the phone bricked for good? or there's hope?
thanks in advance!

Collect some more answers prior to buying. But I would say as long as the display comes up and bootloader shows there is hope.
Fails while sideloading sometimes doesn't mean anything, as he has to sideload a ROM.zip while a backup would fail.

I just wanted to say that maybe I'm wrong and some others should confirm what I'm saying .
But from what I learned you could re-flash TWRP in this state and first flash a custom ROM such as ViperOne using adb sideload to get it up and running. From this point one could then revert to stock using the correct backup.
Would be interesting if the
fastboot getvar all
command comes up with the version-main and which cid and mid this One M8 has.

I'm gonna ask him if he can get into the recovery and see if he has a custom one. Because if he does I'm sure I could just put a SD in there and get a nice m8 for about 220.

Ask him whether he installed a GPE ROM before ... I've seen many have problem when trying to unroot or back to Sense from a GPE.
Get the fastboot getvar all info from him. If his device is on bootloader/fastboot then he should be able to run this command. If he can have this info, then it just a soft brick.
Gotta go now ...

He doesn't know how to do "fastboot getvar all" then how can he said he was unable to install a recovery ?
I still believe, nothing is wrong with his M8, other than OS was deleted with a custom recovery ... a simple fix by placing a ROM.zip on external sdcard will fix it.
Can he get a screenshot/a pic of the bootloader ?

It works great. It took some time because I had to find Win7 32 bit with direct internet connection (I'm on Win8 64 bit) but at the end it is S-OFF.
Thank you!
Now I have another problem. After S-OFF with this method I can not start Bluetooth. Tried with wiping data (factory reset) but no luck. It would be nice to have radio to download. Maybe that would help my situation.
For now I will try with different ROM.

you don't have to reflash the radio, just reflash a new rom (of course clean install)

Is that link for full stock?
Warning to everyone. Don't flash CM10 (unless you want to stay with it) because you want be able to get back to stock. I tried that and ended up with mixed version that FC. Luckily I had backup before all this and that helped.

Nope, it's unlocked.

Ok Gurus, I need help.

This is the first phone I haven't been able to root by myself. Ok, I finally S-offed my phone last night with a XTC2 clip. I was having major issues with it though and couldn't unlock the bootloader with it. So then I tried to unlock the bootloader, but I can't because I'm not rooted . So it looks like HTCDEV.com website is the only way to unlock the bootloader? I have a VZW phone, so i changed my CID to superCID. When I went to get my token it came up with the error {killswitch} oem unlock off. So I went to developer options and guess what? The option to check the oem unlock is gone.... Where did it go?? I did update my phone recently to the latest OTA... .Am I in trouble? Thanks for the help guys!
VZW does this mean Verizon? If so.... Think they don't allow HTC dev unlocking check this thread.

I changed my CID so I can use HTCDEV if I'm thinking correctly? I used to have the option for OEM unlock on developer tools, now it's not there. So how to I go about unlocking the bootloader since I am now S-off?
If you are on Android 5.1 I think you kind a need that option....
I would say down grade using a RUU. Since the extra option to select in developer option wasn't there in Android 5.0.
Make your m9 a stock unbranded m9 and start from the beginning.
Just one question, does your m9 need to be on Verizon cid to get service?
Also, Not sure about this though, does super cid still work on the m9? I believe to have read something about this. Once again ,not sure.

My CID is 11111111 and my service is working fine. I am on 5.1. That is what my phone shipped with. My question is where did the option go for oem unlock? It was there and now it isnt!
My best bet is you triped a security measure from Verizon by trying to unlock your phone . As far as I read they are trying to make it impossible to unlock their phones.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Free mobile app
This sucks. There has to be a way around this. Especially since I'm already S-off?
Hence my plan to convert. I believe it has been done on a m8 not quite sure if it would work on a m9.... ****ty Verizon.

You're s-off, so you can do what you want, though it's sometimes tricky. Here's your solution.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/how-to-lock-unlock-bootloader-htcdevs-t3092036
There are a lot of funky things with the Verizon model, so you're probably best off starting over in those forums first.
Ok, I tried that! i can't get superuser to stick though. I installed it via playstore. I'm thinking I need to flash in it download mode?

You'd be better off asking over in the Verizon forums. Lots of people have done it, but I'm not sure how exactly. This appears to be the thread to start with:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-one-m9/general/m9-java-card-t3063247
If you wanted, you could do that sdcard flash with a custom recovery I believe. Like put TWRP in a 0PJAIMG.zip then flash super su from recovery.

if you are S-OFF then (on the M9 unlike M8 and M7), you can
"fastboot flash recovery <name of twrp>img"
even with a locked bootloader
then boot into TWRP and use the adb shell commands by scotty1223 as mentioned by iElvis
(within TWRP recovery, no need to get to a rooted ROM, twrp recovery already has a "rooted shell")

yes, as long as you are S-OFF, "normal" fastboot flash recovery... works just fine
on M8 and M7 (provided S-OFF), with a locked bootloader you'd need to "package" TWRP into an RUU mode flashable zip (ie proper android-info.txt + TWRP, renamed to recovery.img in a zip) to be able to flash it.
on M9 this is not needed, a normal fastboot flash recovery <name of twrp>.img works just fine, then while booted into TWRP, you can use an adb shell to do the unlock command
For some reason, My phone wouldn't flash it normally. I had to flash it as a zip file, but it worked great! Dottat helped me out tremendously!
I also have the XTC 2 Clip is the best way to have s-off , sim unlock and other things, Is work very well..
Personally I already had the bootloader unlock with htc dev but is possible to make that with the xtc clip or htc dev. You do not need root to do this .. Maybe some different thing to do with verizon.

Root

Hi all,
I will receive my new 10 tomorrow. Is there a guide so I can root it right away? Not sure but I assume it will be a wwe version (401?)
I should unlock it via htcdev and what's next?
Thanks!

As usual .. after unlock, install TWRP and install SuperSU.zip
You need to read and understand this first : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/psa-htc-policy-unlocking-bootloader-t3365986
and here is the TWRP : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3358139
Thanks for the answer. Both links give me an error in the xda app. Know where to find them but just FYI.
So I need to replace the recovery without doubt. Hmm, not sure if I want that reading the things about ota and stock recovery. I'm actually waiting for mike1986 to create a custom rom for the 10 but up until now no news about that.

Prety interested in this one too... Looked around and on some sites it said that you can do it using various apps... I would also like to keep it as stock as possible but rooted, at least at the beginning
Is there any one touch root solution
What versions of SuperSU are people trying and having success with?
Latest versions had issues on my M9 so had an older version working great!

Nope, and it as much as says so a few posts above yours.
I unlocked my device via htcdev, flashed trwp latest version and sideloaded the last beta version of supersu (2.71). These steps did the trick although some apps that require root (fstrim for example) claim I need to root the device. Rootchecker on the other hand claim my device is rooted. Main reason for me to unlock was adaway to get an almost ad free device.

Was your device encrypted? Thought all devices are and you loose all userdata when you install TWRP. or even when you Unlock via htcDev?

It will wipe when you unlock but unlike previous years, because it is encrypted it will forget its access when you s-off as well.
The update is now available in my region but since I unlocked and rooted, how do I apply this? I assume nothing will get lost? Is there anybody with the ota file so I can at least restore stock recovery?

How could I backup stock recovery? Backing up the rest is done with twrp but stock recovery wasn't possible of course. What I understood was the stock recovery could be pulled from RUU and since I'm on the wwe 401 version I was not afraid I couldn't find that. Only did not expect an ota that quick

Typical verizon removed the "Enable OEM unlock" option from the developer settings. Hopefully someone will figure out temproot quickly.

in my opinion I would not even bother with the OTA now that your unlocked and rooted. you will start seeing custom stuff soon enough. I'm still waiting for any info on mine even being shipped out.
What is the correct root procedure to keep signal?
I've tried:
1 unlock bootloader via htcdev.
2 flash TWRP.
3 flash SuperSU
4 run SunShine
5 re-enable data encryption via settings > storage
It then reboots and I see HTC logo (thought it was encrypting without giving any indication, so I left it overnight) and it was stuck in this state. In the morning I force rebooted and was still unencrypted and without signal, so I attempted step 5 with same result...

That's always good
I've attempted to root it again and now it works, it's rooted, with s-off, unlocked, and encrypted and with signal working.
Not sure why you lose root after format data, is that normal?
