I'm guessing, but, could you alter the aspect ratio on the TV to get a full screen image?
Maybe, alter the Picture Size from "16:9" to "Screen Fit" (or whatever they're called on your TV).

[Q] MHL/HDMI screen overscan?

Just wondering how the output configures itself to display on the screen?
I have a 1080p sony LCD that its feeding to and I get the display cut off a bit on either side. The television however will not allow me to choose a pixel-to-pixel true picture display (greyed out).
thx

Does your TV have compatibility for 1280x720 over HDMI?
Keep looking in the settings on your TV. Only the super cheap low end TVs do not have this setting. I have a 1080p Sony Bravia and on my TV the setting was under the Picture menu and it was not labeled overscan it was labeled picture adjustment. When you get it set right the picture will fit like a glove.
yea its a 1080p bravia, a little older but still.
Will keep looking.
Mine is a little older too but I guarantee the setting is there somewhere.

It's not under the picture settings, it's under the more generic settings and there'll be a section about HDMI. The option will either be labelled "Zoom", "Overscan", or something about pixel display. Set it to full and you're done.

Get slimport to output 1080p instead of 1200p?

I have a nice 1080p projector I'd love to drive with the Nexus 7 over Slimport. Performance is great, but the picture has letterboxing on the left and right due to the 16:10 aspect ratio of the tablet. Is there any way to get the Nexus 7 to output only the top 1920x1080 (ignoring the permanent soft button bar)?

Yes, there are ways. Unfortunately none of them's easy. One way is to change the screen resolution but that requires root. The other way is to add support for external display in a video player app. As of 4.2 app developers are able to detect and handle mutliple displays at once. So it's for instance possible to detect that external display is attached, discover what resolution it supports and output video to the external display at a native resolution. I am quite surprised that the native video player does not support that. It shoud work by default that way.

[Q] Change HDMI output resolution on Tab Pro 10.1?

Hello everyone.
I am now the happy owner of this wonderful device. One thing that annoys me tho, is that when i use my official Samsung MHL cable to output HDMI to my TV, it doesnt adapt to my full hd tv with aspect 16:9, but still keeps the 16:10 resolution of the tablet, which results in black boxes on each side of the screen.
I have tryed different resolution changing apps, but with no luck. They both resulted in a boot loop of my device, where i had to hard reset to stop it.
Is there anyone who had any luck with any apps, scripts, roms?

I think because of the higher resolution of this tablet, and the norm of 1080p HDTVs, you are going to get some cut-off points when mirroring the display.
LineageOS supports both resolution changing apps and MHL.
Edit: That specific rom is for the tab 8.4. However, if it helps, it seems that samsung-based roms are the problem. CM-based stuff seems to have worked for at least one other person that I saw.

Help with resolution..

Hi all, I recently picked up the 10.5 inch model of the tab s, and I think I may have a problem with my screen resolution.
I was looking for and downloading different HD wallpapers, when I noticed that none of them really fit the screen all that well or looked as good as they should with a screen like this. So I searched around different sites to find my screen resolution and every one of them said my screen was running a 1280x800 resolution. That's WAY below the advertised 2560x1600 resolution this screen should display. Naturally I was a bit concerned and couldn't really find anything related online, so I thought I'd come to you experts here and see what you make of it.
Any help or info you guys/gals could offer would be greatly appreciated!
download CPU-Z software from playstore and check...
the resolution in pixel are usually the 2560x1600 resolution. and in dp resolution as 1280x800

I didn't take into account that they may be talking about dp. I suppose that makes a bit more sense. Not with the tablet right now so I can't check cpu-z, but when I have the chance, I'll definitely check it out and report back what I find. Thanks for the help, and quick reply!

So I checked cpu-z and it does confirm the 2560x1600 resolution. I guess I'm still a little confused though as to what resolution I should be downloading wallpapers at? Every site I go to says my resolution is 1280x800, even though they have 2560x1600 as an available option. Downloading both shows clear superiority in the 2560x1600 resolution, but the sites continually direct me to download the 1280x800 options.
Is this normal? And if not, what should I do?
I just usually download the biggest size... and crop it during choosing wallpaper...

That's what I've been doing. Is it normal though to suggest the 1280x800 resolution with the much better option is available?

I also usually do what edan does, either look for the correct resolution for the tab (2560x1600) or highest one available and crop/resize/stretch. No need to be confused with auto-detection, since it is a tablet and detection may not work correctly.

Yes it is, since your browser tells the website that you are using 1280x800 resolution.
For full resolution use this app (find it in live wallpaper):

I've used this app on my nexus 10 for a while. Best way to set your wallpaper for sure
I suggest you try going to interfacelift.com it's the best wallpaper site out there with natural taken shots from powerful cameras or edited digital ones and it automatically detects your resolution and sticks to it.

Netflix zoom?

Hi all! Just got my G7 yesterday and I'm loving it so far. The issue I've noticed is when using Netflix. When ever I'm watching a film or other 21:9 content there are black bars surrounding the whole video, it looks so stupid and is essentially wasting screen real estate. Is there anyway to get the video to take up the whole screen like with 16:9 content? Thanks in advance!
Here is what you need to do:
1. Open Settings
2. Select Display
3. Open App Scaling
From within this you can select the app of your choice from the installed apps on your phone and change the amount of real estate on your screen the app uses.
Your choices are
1. None (Original)
2. Compatibility (16:9)
3. Standard (16.7:9)
4. Full Screen (this is what I use for Netflix)
Hope this helped

Have you try other videos content on Netflix? I notice before some video got cropped and some don't. Usually video should automatically do full screen.
You can pinch out the video while watching with your fingers.

Thanks for the tip Roger! Unfortunately it's still the same TV shows fill the full screen but movies don't, it leaves them in black filled letterbox.

I sure have! Like I said to Roger above TV shows zoom and crop just fine but movies won't, even pinch to zoom has no effect when a movie is being displayed looks so stupid.

Netflix doesn't show for me in App Scaling. Was it updated for the G7 compatibility? Can you add any installed app to the app scaling list?

App scale is for app itself, not video content. This phone arrived tomorrow and I'll see if this problem happen in my end.
Have you try Netflix support? They might need to push update on their side for G7 size.
