Ok I am going to make it Abundantly Clear. So there is ZERO I mean ZERO CONFUSION.
What this is NOT -
This is not a Weekly. This is not Stable. If you are looking for either, you are in the wrong thread.
This is Not a Daily Driver. If you are looking for one, go to SlimKat Thread.
This is not Fully Functional Picture Perfect Rom. You do not get to Complain and call names on the thread if you expected anything else.
This Build does have bugs. Those that are known to me are listed Bellow.
What this is -
This is an Early Alpha Build. To those who don't know, that's prior Stage of a Beta or Weekly Build.
Its a Preview of things to come. If you notice, my list of Features is lacking quiet a few of Slim Features.
Yes there are bugs. The ones I do know are
Root does not Stick. See Notes Bellow.
Stock Camera clicks but does not take pictures. When you switch to Video Mode, you'd get error "Unable to Connect to Camera". Afterwards you have to reboot to clear.
Some of the 3rd Party Camera Apps work. For Ex. Open Camera, VivaVideo
APN Menu does not show any of the APNs for at least Sprint Variant.
When connected to WiFi, MMS are delayed. Only seems to affect D2VZW.
NOTES -
This is a D2GSM Build. So it is equally applicable to D2ATT as well as D2TMO. So use D2ATT Build unless I specified Otherwise.
You must Flash SuperSU [STABLE][2015.01.20] SuperSU v2.4.5 as a Zip file along after flashing Rom.
If you posted a bug/issue not listed above, without a Logcat, I will ignore it.
Unless specified otherwise, do not dirty flash on top of SlimKat or Other Roms. If you did and then complained even with Logcat, I will ignore.

Just in Case.

Nice Rom!! Wil try it out!

its working great thanks!!

OP Updated. 5.1.1 Build Released.
EDIT - Another Build is up on my AFH. I cleaned up the download folder into 2 sub folders. Let me know if you have issues.

Recents Fixed. But There's some other customizations for QS Tiles & More importantly ability to get rid of the # Symbol is now in Developer Options.
Fixed the issue with Hardware buttons not responding along with other updates.
New Build Up.

I noticed on g+ that the s3 wasnt listed on the weeklies, if it happens will you continue this thread? or list download links, I hope so, Slim rom officials are low maintenance, and the s3 is still a good phone, thanks.

I am and will be continuing. I will have device added there.
Please link me to the Specific Post.

Via your AF link there is no d2tmo build in the 5.1.1 folder.

Yes this go around I didn't build one. You can use the D2ATT build and it will work just fine. Its on my D2TMO at this time. You can use Build.Prop Editor or some other mechanism to change Device Model (ro.product.model)
If you want a D2TMO Specific build, look under the folder Older Builds.

Perseus, you are THE MAN! Switched from sprint to tmo and was thrilled to find this. Running great for me with the exception of bt, but I can deal. I saw you said this device will continue to get updates, is that still the case?
I have a random question with regards to mic setup. I'm using sipdroid + gv for voice service, and I saw a thread saying the mics are reversed unless on a TW rom. I can hear people perfectly, but they have complaints. Can you confirm if this may be my issue?

The last 3 posts. Is that last post a potential fix ?
Thanks again for everything. My phone and I would be lost without you. :good:

Yes there would be updates here. I wasn't aware of this issue as you are the first one to bring it up.
You can try the solution suggested, but at first glance seems like Hangout issue or your setup. Not sure. Just making a guess.
Are you aware that under advanced settings of the dialer, you have ability to enter SIP account details ? This can potentially bypass need for Hangout Dialer ?

Yes sir. Using native dialer. Idk why they complain, I can hear them perfectly. I would have thought it would be crap both ways. Will keep messing with it.
Unrelated: hangouts is crushing my battery when not on wifi. Unistalled dialer and now I think it's worse.... Lol
So many downloads and very little chatter. Must be A GREAT build for a beta!

@Perseus
Are you going to be updating this ROM more regularly? Also thank you for compiling a dedicated d2tmo build w/ v0.6. :good:

So this build is pretty good unlike the crappy build I was using before out of a need to get lolipop up and running.
My biggest complaint though --- why are we using the old JB recent apps window. Worse yet, why is there no clear all button?
This is driving me mad to the point of installing Xposed just to kind of add in this functionality.

To clear all you have to use the "pinch" gesture in the recent apps section.

Hi so I tried flashing d2tmo 5.1 official and I keep getting stuck on the boot animation. I tried flashing via both CWM and TWRP (following exact instructions for both) and I still got the same result. I'm able to flash the latest stable Kit-Kat ROM without issue. I've waited up to 20 minutes for the boot animation to disappear. Do you have any suggestions?

I will. But due to Time constraints, I can't promise a weekly build. Slim Server will start cranking out Weeklies, jenkins permitting. If so, the need for my builds would be less.

Yeah that's my bad. I would probably post a flashable kernel only build that you can flash on top of this build.

About " Slim is Dead "
I put this Posting in the OP and change the Thread Titel so all can read it and i hope this stops the asking and the Questions.
We read in the last weeks many times questions, statements, about SlimRoms when it goes on or is Slim Dead.
To clear it.
We write in the last weeks many Times taht we have a lot of changes done, Team Intern , Personnel, software, hardware. These are all things that need time / have needed. Completed about 90% of the process.
People ask why nothing happens in the Gerrit.
We changed the whole system and you can find the Gerrit now here
you can see, we working hard on 5.1
People ask what happens with the Slim Homepage

please note, the HP is under construction and not finished.
You can be sure , SlimRoms is anything but just not dead,, many things need a lot of time, I would like and can no release date call for the next update, but I can say that it will not be long.
In this sense,
Greetings

A) DPI Settings coming soon , you can use textdroider_dpi from Playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.texdroider.texdroider_dpi&hl=de , this works fine. Default Stock DPI is 480.
Q) A few Settings like Disable Blacklight Keys and more are missing .
A) All features you know from 4.3 will come back from time to time , for now you can use Xposed in combination with Gravity Box.
Gravity Box : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554049 / Xposed : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401

A)Test it for your self , remember that ART is in an early phase
Q) Can i restore my apps with Titanium Backup coming from another Rom ?
A) Yes you can , remember " Don't restore System Apps "
Q) What for a Recovery is recommanded ?
A) I use TWRP 2.6.3.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468187 and it works fine , you can use the official CWM Recovery too.
Q ) There is no Theme Chooser in the Rom ?
A ) For now we use no Theme Chooser, you can use HK ThemeManager, it does the same and more

:good:seems more stable than CM11 godd job (mix between god job and good job ... or typo)
so far everything seems fine (except for the auto-rotation)
I was able to install all my apps, with no compatibility issues so far.
the camera is working as well as the GPS fix.
The real dark slim is missing but I guess that's something for the stable build.
I must say I like it, I see my trust (and by that I mean donation:silly was well placed-
keep up the good work!
I guess I never buy another device which is not supported by SLIM :victory:

Bugs
Add Screenshot and customise Power Menu:
Settings > Navigation > Global Menu
So far bugs of KitKat:
1. In call proximity sensor not working. Neither is the mute button.
2. If phone battery dies and you put phone onto charge, it will automatically boot up straight into slimkat (skips gs4 screen?) and touchscreen will be unresponsive (all capacitive and hardware buttons work though). Restarting with charger plugged in does not solve, need to reboot again without charger then all is okay!
3. NFC is greyed out and enabled (power drain?) --> Add NFC to quicktiles, click it once, then reboot. NFC wont be greyed! (thx tylog)
4. Hotspot is not working (devices do not see the SSID) --> Tethering works
5. Front camera preview appears to be stretched horizontally, but photo is fine
6. S/W Decoder on MX Player FCs --> Use H/W Decoding
7. Network Mode and LTE quick tiles do nothing
Whatsapp+ has incorrect data and time notification
Hangouts is laggy and slow and doesn't appear to send sms on time --> switched to Messaging
No themes
No Dark Slim
How can i change the DPI ?
Auto-rotation is only partially not working in my side, i would prefer say that it works with almost no issue.
Only thing is that it doesn't work anymore but for a very little time after I tick/untick it under Settings/Display but works apparently perfect rest of the time.
Can't be only me huh?
Edit:Well a little more bugy than I thought finally, doesn't work anymore after some times (since screen-off it seems) and then works again after some times etc..

I'm shocked more people haven't given this ROM a spin. I used this on my SPH-D710, and now switched to the SPH-L710 and installed it.
So far it's working great. I installed over 130 apps, and not one FC. It's performing rock solid stable and faster than other ROM I tried.
This ROM has the best implementation of multi-screen out there. Simply open the apps you want in multiscreen, then go into recent apps, long press the the apps you want in multi and add them. Works great.
The only thing that seems off with this ROM is the scale of fonts, icons, and status bar. They seem much smaller compared to other ROMs. Other than that, its working great.
Thanks for porting it over to the L710!

I was trying to install the latest OTA update, and it fails to install. Even when I try to manually install it.
My recovery is TWRP 2.7.1.0. Do I need to use a different recovery, or is OTA updates broken?
Thanks for any help.
Wee is the download link for this rom
Is this rom still live its. Working great on my samsung s3 from sprint
I've been using this ROM, and for the most part it works great. However, I've experienced the following problems.
The last three or four OTA releases simply won't install. I get an error as shown in my post above. I've been updating by downloading a full version and running that to upgrade to the latest release.
The last two releases I found the scale of the icons and font to be huge. So big, that in some apps and games the graphics overlap each other. Plus some tiles seem to be missing from the status bar.
Any word from the ROM dev about these issues?
Thanks for your continued releases.
I've tried installing the last 4 release builds and I can't even get a MoKee boot screen after installation.
Can anyone confirm these past builds are broken? I see several hundred people downloaded the last few builds, but no one posting if there's anything wrong, so I'm not sure if its me or the builds.

What I'm trying to find out is if the current release builds being posted are actually working or broken. When I go to install a release build that was posted within the past couple of weeks, it doesn't work. I don't even get a MoKee boot screen after an install.
I've even tried compiling a build from the MoKee d2lte branch, and same thing, it doesn't work.
Have you tried to install a recent build of MoKee on your d2lte?
Thanks for you response.

Hello again,
After the success of my AOSPAL builds, I thought I'd branch out a little.
So, in the words of Monty Python, "And for something completely different."
I wanted to find a ROM that offered features and customization options. Unfortunately most of the ROMs out now are either very early in development (and don't offer much over the stock AOSP experience). There are exceptions -- Illusion, LiquidSmooth -- but they already have builds for the d851. So I spent hours of painstaking research 30-45 minutes plumbing the depths of the Internet and discovered Android IceCold Project. Active development? Check. Active community and user base? Check. Nice options and a different user experience? Check! I'd found my next project!
Those of you that have read my AOSPAL 5.0 thread will already know this -- so new folks, this is for you: look at my profile and you'll see I've been a member of XDA for several years, and yet I have a shockingly low post count. In fact, the vast majority of my posts here have been in relation to the AOSPAL build. My search-fu and my Google-fu are strong. I search, read, search some more then read some more until I've learned enough to figure it out. I expect everyone that loads this ROM to have strong search and reading skills, and an IQ in the triple digits. I know that somehow, though, someone is going to post questions in this thread that have been asked and answered somewhere else. Not only will I not answer it, I'll waste valuable development time smacking my forehead and staring at my laptop display in stunned disbelief. Also, it makes the baby Cthulu cry.
So with that out of the way...without furhter ado, I present to you AICP Lollipop 0.1! I'll update this post later with a features list and whatnot. I'm also planning on building this ROM using the SaberMod toolchain to see just how much difference it makes -- and I'll make new builds somewhat regularly. I'm actually hoping to get OFFICIAL status on this one.
What's new/changed/updated in the latest build?

Oh Yeah!
Nice,an early morning flash!! Thanks! Will report asap!!!
After such a super high IQ post, definitely know that I'm better waiting for the official CM11…
@CrusherJoe, great to see you taking on another ROM, and one with further tweaks than AOSPA. Thanks for your support.
I flashed about an hour ago, ran it through the usual checks with the Camera, all seems good there. Features are nice, and I noticed that the AOSP keyboard actually has functioning gesture typing. That's a first from all the Lollipop ROMs I've tried so far.
I have found one bug that seems to be present in any and all Lollipop ROMs that incorporate "increasing volume" in the Alarm (Clock) app. And that is that scrolling through alarms (when setting up 4 or more different alarms) doesn't work so well. Screen scrolls maybe 1/16" then stops, and you have to keep scrolling down 1/16" at a time. It's like it loses track of your finger touching the screen.
I've only noticed it in the alarm page of the Clock app, but it could be present in other areas. I'll have to keep track if I find any other buggy scrolling in other apps.
Thanks!

There is no SaberMod 4.10. This statement is a lie. The previous statement was also. Or maybe it wasn't.
Damn it.
The later it gets, the weirder I become.
Anyway...no. After running some benchmarks there really wasn't enough of a gain to make it worth it.
However...
... The next special ops build should (I'd I can get the damned thing to actually compile) will include a combination of Linaro/SM-4.8/9/10 and @JustArchi's compiler flag optimizations. That ought to put some sweat on your sack.
I'll announce it and or it up with a plain ol' stock build so everyone can run 'em both and see what a difference that combo makes (assuming it does, that is).
Okay, I'm not sure what got all borked up, but Hangouts VOIP is JACKED to the point of complete uselessness in terms of being a VOIP phone client.
Seriously -- don't flash the 20141210 build if you use Hangouts/Google Voice VOIP telephony functions.
I'll see what I can do about a fix -- I'll keep everyone posted.

Use the following data, information, and links at YOUR OWN RISK!
As a VanirAOSP developer, and the VanirAOSP LG G2 device & kernel maintainer:
I, sudosurootdev, AKA Chris, make all of these ROMs on my own, on my time, working hard everyday to bring you a great build everyday. I do also maintain the LG G2 devices & kernel.
However I just switched to the CAF Modem, Bootstack, and Kernel Provided by the wonderful AMAZING LG-Devs: @Rashad97 & @Drgravy They saved us on some serious issues that we have been dealing with and trying to fix!!! The only thing my phone does now, is you have to tap it 5 times fast to WAKE IT!!! IT DT2S VERY WELL!!!! THANK YOU LG-DEVS!!! You guys please send a round of donations their way!!! Or 50/50... I still gotta pay my server but they are due some serious PROPS!!! Thanks guys!!!!
Sources:
All of my builds contain my "VanirAOSP based" Framework, Settings, G2-common, device variant repos, kernel, and a few of my extras including an sqlite database vacuum & reindex script that runs every week, and a calibrate-battery command. These few extras, are located in my vendor_vanir-private repo.
My frameworks_base & packages_apps_Settings are all open source, and all device repos and kernel work is pushed to VanirAOSP's Github repos as soon as I test my changes.
Those can be viewed here: kernel_lge_msm8974 & device_lge_g2-common or each variant's repo.
If you have any quetion about the sources that I am using, you can view my manifest at: https://github.com/sudosurootdev/platform_manifest/tree/L5 or ask me at anytime!
I also build each of these ROM builds with my dedicated server, which does cost me a pretty good chunk of money every month, especially for someone who has no income except what you are willing to give out of appreciation... hint, hint, hint
Right now I have to pay the server fee which is $130 every month. I would like to start making things easier and better for you all including adding OTA updates from VanirUpdater, to serve my builds... but I would need to be able to increase the storage space on my server to do this now. That would cost more money. So you all would have to decide whether you want this feature now, and donate enough for me to increase.
Plus because I have a public website: https://sudosurootdev.com (PLEASE BOOKMARK IT) on the server which is used for these builds and for communicating to you all, I have other fees and costs that are needed as well. Other costs include my GitHub paid account for private repos, which is where I keep my code while I am working on it. Once I am finished, and everything builds and works just fine, then everything gets pushed to the links above.
Do to the costs above, and other costs which I pay every month to make these builds happen... even including my internet service, because I do not have a job right now. My family or my girlfriend usually helps out with that, but these are things that cost money, which I need to have to keep bringing you daily builds.
So if you like my builds, you want them to continue, and you can afford to do so... please feel free to make a donation to help me with my costs & time. Most of you know that I sometimes work constantly. I spend hundreds of hours to bring these builds to you all. You will find the donation info at the bottom of this post, in my signature, my profile, or on my website on the following page: https://sudosurootdev.com/index.php/donations/
I am trying to move a lot of the communication between all of the users of my builds (YOU GUYS), and myself, to my website https://sudosurootdev.com. That way I have a central place for everyone, and you can read it anytime. Plus it is helping to reach more LG G2 users, by being indexed by all search engines, and I apply a LOT of SEO techniques. I tried other options like the spreadsheet for issue reporting, but it is difficult, with all of the work I am already doing, programming for these builds, building these builds, and then checking my PMs and the Posts here, plus on Vanir's Google+ Community, and a spreadsheet every single day at least once, preferably more than once per day. So, I have a contact form on the "About Me" Page of my website: https://sudosurootdev.com/index.php/about-me/ and I have comment sections below every post that I post and every page!!! I have a specific page for feature requests, and if the issues are plenty, I will add an issue report page... Right now, as it is, with very few issues, just send me a message on the "CONTACT ME" page's Contact Form.
What can I expect here?

Build & GAPPS: https://sudosurootdev.com/builds/
Installation:
You MUST have ROOT access & a custom recovery installed. (TWRP, CWM, PhilZ CWM, CM Recovery, or AOSP bootable/recovery... NO STOCK RECOVERY!!!)
Download the correct Rom build, from either VanirAOSP L5 branch or VanirAOSP EXODUS branch, for your Phone's Model. (D800, D801, D802, D803, VS980, LS980).
Download Gapps. (Full or Minimalist version)

Transfer the files to your phone (or if you plan to sideload skip to next step)
Reboot into recovery.
Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache and System (VERY IMPORTANT!!! With PhilZ Touch CWM Recovery, and maybe others, there is an option which says "Clean to install a new ROM")
(You can dirty flash, once you are already running VanirAOSP ROM. If you dirty flash make sure that you flash GAPPs FIRST, then ROM, in order to keep your currently installed apps... so the following 2 setps will be reversed. REMINDER: THIS IS ONLY DONE IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND ARE ALREADY RUNNING VanirAOSP ROM... NEVER ON FIRST FLASH!!!
Install Rom.
Install Gapps. (MAKE SURE TO USE THEGAPPS. They are listed on my website's Builds Page:
https://sudosurootdev.com/builds/
Install Bootstacks LAST

CLEAN FLASH, THEN PULL A LOGCAT WHILE YOU REPEAT THE PROBLEM AT LEAST ONCE!!!
Use: adb logcat -v long | tee -a logcat.txt ...on Linux and adb logcat -v long -d > logcat.txt ...on Windows.
Then send me a copy of that FULL logcat, with a description of the issue, through the Contact Form on the "About Me" page of my website here: https://sudosurootdev.com/index.php/about-me/
I will get to fixing it as soon as possible!!!
Thank You!!!

None of us want that!!!
Also, I may start adding other devices to my list of VanirAOSP devices which I build daily, on their own threads, once I get all issues worked out with the LG G2 builds.

Exodus is the feature "testbed" that then flows to the more conservative L5 after thought and discussion.
Expect Exodus to have more and/or newer features for the time being.
Such as a customizable navigation bar.
@Angelic276 The VanirAOSP L5 branch is our basic, very secure, and stable branch. The EXODUS branch is a branch which some of our developers started contributing to recently which added many features without much debate on our gerrit site, so some may not be quite as stable as the L5 branch, but there is more features so far, due to not debating about how code should be written as long.
D803 buid for L5 branch is almost done... each build only takes my server 35 minutes exactly... so as soon as it is finished I will post it up. As I stated in thread, I do not have enough to keep paying for the server for next month, so donations are appreciated and really needed to continue this on for a long time. Since I got the server I can now do my work, while a build is running, so if it works than I plan on adding some other devices from our sources as well.
Edit: D803 L5 branch build is up, and I'm now starting with current EXODUS builds, just synced sources, and I'll start with ls980 (my device), then vs980, d800, d801, d802, & d803 & then back through L5 builds after those... that's my building order in case you all are looking for build for that day... if the one before is there than yours is next.

Is there a feature list?

No feature list. I may add them if I find the time, but it would be a lot of time for me to keep up with my device & kenel development, building all variants for both branches every day, plus everything else I'm doing, when you can just try them out.... but to name a few:
1) Both branches have an OTA updater... about twice or 3 times per week (I'm doing daily builds).
2) Customizable navbar
3) Customizable Statusbar (includin clock, battery)
4) immersive style (navbar & or statusbar)
5) expanded desktop
5) Customizable power menu
Customizable Hardware:
6) buttons
7) kernel performance
7) vibrator
Multiple Users:
8) also can be added in power menu customizations
Profiles:
9) also can be added in power menu customizations
Developer Options:
10) Advanced Reboot
11) QuickBoot
12) Screenshot (Power & Volume Down)
13) Screen Record (Power & Volume Up)
...to name a few ...and more...
Vs980 ROMs don't boot for me. Stays on LG logo. Coming from Blisspop so already on 12b. Did I miss a step?
Excellent
Hi. Installed on my d802. I love the ROM and looking forward to future customisations.
Just a couple of things I miss. Would there be any chance to have the date next to the clock? And a big issue for me as I back up to otg a lot. Good to see the ROM recognised my device but I can't see a way to unmount the stick?
Thanks for the ROM. Looking good.
Do you use Linaro or Google GCC for these builds?
Wow this better be as amazing as it sounds, abs hopefully we can get dorimanx up and running too
---------- Post added at 05:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:03 AM ----------
Also please share build details, gcc or linaro?

NOTES -
You must Flash SuperSU [STABLE][2015.01.20] SuperSU v2.4.5 as a Zip file along after flashing Rom.
If you posted a bug/issue not listed above, without a Logcat, I will ignore it.
Unless specified otherwise, do not dirty flash on top of SlimKat or Other Roms. If you did and then complained even with Logcat, I will ignore.

Just in case.
So far, this is running very smoothly with no issues other than the known bugs.
Battery life not quite what I have with SlimKat 9, but not bad. And, to be fair, I tested it for less than 24 hours. Also had an issue with WiFi not turning itself back on while using LeanDroid, but it worked fine after I uninstalled the app. Very impressive for an Alpha, though. If it's not quite a daily driver, it's damn close. Hopefully the camera lib problem across all the d2 LP builds will be solved soon.
As for MVNO APNs, I'm on Ting and flashing their APN's after rom & gapps worked fine (data, LTE, etc).
I wonder if Slim is ever going to bring back CM themes, it's the only thing holding me back.

That's for RingPlus, but same idea. I found the Ting apn zip here: https://help.ting.com/entries/23423026-Flashable-Zip-Fixed-LTE-eHRPD-for-CyanogenMod
I use the 4.3 file, but it works for 4.4 and 5, too.

Yes - I can access it using Google Gesture Search. Also, regarding Open Camera - it works for the most part, but occasionally it will lock up if I tap the screen to focus. A reboot is needed to use the camera again.

That's mighty helpful. Are you able to switch from one APN to another if you wanted to do so ? Also I understand, the menu to APN does not Appear under Setting>Mobile Data > Access Point Names. Is that right ? Eitehr that or don't see a listing at the said place.

Yes, it seems I can switch APNs. But there's no menu listing where there should be.

Just start drawing A-P-N and it should appear on the list. It usually appears after just the A for me. Also, I found a major bug the hard way this morning when the alarm didn't sound. It was set to the priority profile, so it should have worked. I also had no ringtone for one phone call this morning (default profile), but it worked for another. I'll try to reproduce at least the ringtone issue for a logcat, but then I'll have to go back to KK.
Update: Unfortunately, I was unable to reproduce the the alarm/ringtone issue. But, full disclosure, I forgot I was using BMS kernel at the time (sorry, love the cold trinity colors and the battery life it gives me on KK). I went back to the stock kernel nandroid I have and did the testing. So maybe it's a third-party kernel problem, or it could have something to do with the phone being in deep sleep for an extended period of time, which was the other variable. I'll do more testing when I can, but I have a busy week ahead, so it won't be right away.

I wish it was that easy, but I was using system and default ringtones/notifications. I'll get back to it when I can. I was really enjoying it otherwise.

Sorry it took me a while to get to this. I was able to access the APN menu and switch it to Ting, but I was only able to get 3g. Strangely, after switching, I was not able to see the APNs and got the "...not available to this user" message.
I then went back into recovery, wiped the caches, and flashed my APN file. I went back to the APN menu (still getting that message), reset to default, toggled airplane mode on and off, and now I have LTE. I can now see the APN menu again, but it's only the Ting APNs that I flashed. This, by the way, was how I got LTE on KitKat, too. Switching via the APN menu only gave me 3g.
